With kids, ---I was promoting a concept that why fuss about doing something for FORTY FIVE minutes when it would take 2 minutes to do it in the first place ---that was a long time ago ----so yesterday it was five minutes of five I'm due on camera for Mail call at 5:00 o'clock ...and my bed will still in a sizzle shambles ..I sleep in the bed at night but fizzle sleeps in it as soon as I start the daily doggie in the morning and she's in at most of the day but the problem is she does one of those circle round and round and round and paw and paw paw because I think she likes to sleep in the sheets not on the f luffy... and I don't like her sleeping in my sheets -------I had wasted the entire day not making the bed with fresh sheet---- I don't like to do it.... but five minutes of five I got up and change the sheets made the bed and was At Mail call at one minute of five ... thus illustrating it took me 4 minutes to change the sheets on the bed .. From getting the sheets out of the dryer landing them where they belonged to giving the last shove to put the mattress back on the box Springs less than 4 minutes .. I got a lot of exercise but it was only four minutes . and I've been avoiding that all day .
it's supposed to be a system .... camera people send us those very lightweight Polly something blankets /throws .. wonderful things easily washed .. and they're wonderful .. however when they’re new I really think before we ask a young puppy to sleep on it , it should be washed in case there's any strange chemicals .. so instead of immediately throw them into the laundry , the system is to put him in my closet and I will put one on my bed about every day or two and after a day or two of sizzle sleeping on it --- then. we'll throw that in the laundry and it could go back in circulation with the pups .. somewhere along the line I heard but these blankets were basically made out of ground up Pepsi Cola bottles---- who knows ?
I do know that they are very colorful and they adorn puppy Hill so if you stand back and look at puppy Hill you can see blotches of pink and purple and it's not till you get close that you realize the puppies drag these fluffies out of the barn up onto the Hill where they then freeze in the snow and ice and they just stay there until spring thaw we could remoe these strange decorations.. That's where they land if we're lucky the other place they land is to have pieces of them get chewed off and swallowed which so far can cause projectile vomiting thank heavens I don't think we've ever had one go the other way ....
as they get worn out with holes ---Amy and Jackie make them into wonderful quilt sort of things which are tremendously popular which we sell on the doggy bag every once in awhile .
so back to the stop watch...
during my lifetime I have lived out of a dishwasher without putting DISHES on the shelf till the sink gets so full of dirty dishes and I have no place to put them because I don't like to unload the dishwasher which takes less than 5 minutes .. I have timed things in my life most notably a gallon of gas get pumped at 7 seconds a gallon ...but there's so many things I just avoid doing but if I stop set the stopwatch going and do this job it rarely takes much time at all-------- I can fuss. at it for longer than it takes to do it whatever it is ..
I think most everybody's phone also has a stop watch program on it so try it..you may be amazed . from scrubbing the bathtub to wiping dog slobber off the sliding glass door .. there are so many things that take only a minute ..
actually what slows me up a lot of times is looking for the materials or the tools to do whatever .. it may take only 30 seconds TO TIGHTEN a doorknob but it might take me half an hour to find a Phillips head screwdriver ----so that doorknob will stay loose for months at a time unless it falls off in which case it will demand attention . The key to all that is staying organized .. which is why I love to have nurses around here because the one thing they do above all else is put things back where they belong ... how many times is success built on details
Speaking of jobs ..or the lack thereof I don't understand why we have so many people out of work now and I still have to sit and listen to ” your call is important to us---please stay on the line the next available associate will help you .. you are 47th in line and the wait time is an hour and a half . “ you could take all those unemployed people and give him a job answering phones and make the rest of the world much happier but our whole business operation is backwards on that score--- get a machine to do a job adequately that a person who could actually do better. Granted there are jobs machines do do better like filling little vials with vaccine a million an hour ... but that phone answering may save Co a money they'd have to pay a person to do it what annoys me is I'm on the other end paying somebody to sit on hold for the hour and a half . I am told this is a problem with booking vaccine appointments .
Now on the topic of vaccines , there is was some conversation on line which seemed to be legitimate about taking Tylenol before you get your shot .. and that comment seemed to have been substantiated by legitimate publications like the Journal of the Medical Association JM whatever it is what confuses me now is the number of people who have told me 2 take sometime at all if your arm is sore .. I do not understand the logic there because if I take the tile at all after then it seems to me both that island all in the vaccine are going to be inside me at the same time so I'm preferring not to take the Tylenol at the moment ..it's one of those situations where if the first is true then the second is not or at least I think so so much for my medical school experience
next topic ---kids dropping out of school which they're not going to anyway in Chicago or whatever --------- you all know what I think of forcing me to take Latin in high school----- I could redo the high school curriculum around the real world .. My favorite example here which confuses everybody my age is that they are now teaching numbers in the base system which sounds dreadful and is our normal number system is in the base of 10 because we have 10 fingers .. but almost every kid not very old knows they are 4 foot one inch tall so they know....that we measure things in feet inches..
12 inches to a foot so that's done in base 12 which is very understandable in the feet and inches but if you said to somebody do some calculation in the base 12 they're going to get all excited------- just as with with horses which are measured in the base 4----- 4 inches to a “hand “ so horse that's 15 .2 is 62 inches tall at the shoulder ..
To get back down to a reasonable level if you say to a second grader a candy bar cost a quarter how much are three candy bars --- and most of them will tell you 3 quarters...
It should be possible to build on that into both algebra & the decimal system ....
we have this problem every time we have puppies......
take a simple baby scale for weighing puppies... pup weighs 1.7. what exactly is that .7. ??? 7/10th of the 16 ounces that make the number 1 change to 2. Or does .7 go to 16 oz and then change to 2. Pounds..
Mike rowe again..... Education should relate more to the real world before it becomes philosophical ... very young children could be introduced to the physics of the real world.. ,.. reduce normal things to their science... would help... lightbulb screwing 101.

THE SOLUTION to your fire-lighting problem : In one of those antique cast-iron pots ( USUALLY 3 or four quart capacity, with a lid and handle they used to hang it over the fire. I guess any metal container with a lid would do) , FILL WITH SHAVINGS AND SOAK THEM WITH KEROSENE. When fire is desired, SCOOP OUT A LADLEFUL ONTO THE LOGS, AND LIGHT WITH MATCH OR FIRE IGNITER... No liquid to spill or explode or burn house down..
