June 23, 2011

no sign of pups yet -  temp 99.9 -  megan did get the oxytosin shots from george's office-- we are to call him before use-- i have his cell somewhere
he is in  ?? australia??    so we are as ready as we can be---

ready-----with the possible exception of my missing collection of cheap washcloths --  cheap as in flimsy- nearly self destruct in the dryer-- but are easily stuffed in your pocket as drool cloths ----
the kind in walmarts---- 4 dozen  for $8 .

we may need those-  for those quick swipes at some totally unattractive fluid.
****************

an exact olive report
she did not eat any dry food or cottage cheese overnight--- but after a brief walk ( where she emptied the required containers) she did eat some cheese-- and has gone back to "sofa"  after clinging to me saying "where's priscilla?"
***************************
re: dogs talking---- i had a splendid conversation with heydawg last night-- many unique  and changing tones besides the traditional "woof"-- he would make a short "sentence" then i would repeat it.. he was obviously enjoying the  concept... i wonder what i said????
***********************
thunder--- and pi is concerned-- this was her first night on the back porch- and 2 of the pups are in kennel 8 ( the geriactic kennel with the more gently sloping ramp to the sleeping loft.)  megan said they were skittering up aqnd down the ramp with ease- so i left them there.

we have kennel 9 to inspect for dangers-- and then we can put 2 more there-- i could not believe ---clean floor this morning-- first time in 4 months??
****************
re: those sleeping "lofts"
have to be carefful we do not have a dominant problem with any of them-
i know here in the house 3 would pile up leaving crimson on the hard floor
so at best they need to have a blue daycare bed as an alternate sleeping place.

just some organizational details...
*************************************
priscilla will be along in a while--- she has one of those mechanical books to read---- as we sit around and watch olive

i believe it is called analyzing every phart.

good description

i get at least one letter like this a day

wyoming-- there is nothing we can do
******************************
Greetings,

My name is Mercy Hoyt.  I have faced a lot of closed doors so please forgive me if my email includes too much info or my thoughts seem scatered.  I first want to know if your organization donates dogs to persons living out-of -state, that seems to be my bigest obstical as I live in Laramie Wyoming.

If you do, I wanted to know how long would I have to plan on staying while I worked with the dog if I were to be accepted for a dog?

I am a married 32 year old mother of 3 six year olds (yes you read that right lol 3).  We are of the Anabaptist Christian Faith (simular to the Mennonite or Amish).  I home-school my 3 children and we definately believe in doing everything together as family (dog would be included in this lol).  We live in a small house but have a huge yard and vehicle large enough for a large breed dog.  My church family would assist me in any travel or accomidation I would need to obtain a dog.

I also have MS.  I had 2 surgeries last year to reconstruct my knees, however I am still very unstable and not able to walk unassisted very far.  This often leaves both myself and my children frustrated when they want to go for walk or to a park.  My husband works long hours and so many chores like grocery shopping for my family have become more and more difficult to do and often require more of my 6 year olds than I think is fair to expect of them.  I am often left having to wait for my husband to help me after he puts in 14 hours to do simple things like laundry, shopping and running other errands.  Most frustrating is needing him to assist me to the ladies room or when I shower or dress myself.  In the last few monthes I have also fallen while expeirencing boughts of weakness and/or vertigo.  My MS has now reached a point where I feel like my life is slipping through my fingers on my "harder" days.  I don't want my children to grow up feeling it is their responceablity to care for me, I want to take care of them.

Please let me know either way if I may be able to apply for a dog from your program... if not any information at all would be of a blessing to me.  Thus far our only option seems to be to attemp to find and train a dog ourselves.

--
Thank you for your time, Mrs. Mercy Hoyt

olive---
no change--- doing well -- out walking -- getting very opinionated-- will sleep in the tv room  not on the lovely mat we made for her--- finally getting up on the sofa on her own--  this is going to raise heck with that futon if her water breaks up there..

she may be having puppies--- but she is having an equal amount of goo with them---
****************
what to do will be the next question when we get the blood results back ( about 8am)

she is stronger-- nearly normal--
?let her start labor--- or do a c section today ( if the blood test says so)

minus that swollen foot we would have had no question
*****************************
which brings me to today's venting..thank heavens for that foot !
keeping in mind i did not go to vet school--  my degree is in probability and logic..

there is a tendency among vets  and vet techs to assume any dane has "wobblers"--(weak rear end )  certainly a problem in danes-- and we have had a few- however.....

fortunately Olive had a swollen foot--- not badly swollen--- but significant - and dr. smith did not jump to the conclusion that her weak rear end was  wobblers and decide to analyzing  it by hyperextending olive's neck til she yelped...  a practice common in veternary practice--

i have been up for hours worrying about that concept-- so i remind everyone handling our dogs-- that neck  hyper extension may only be done with my written permission... and don't ever let any vet - or vet tech attempt it.

just put me in the weird person category.
( but also the wierd person who has to pay the bill for "the exam")
***********************

our Army of volunteers has swung into motion  with the pending olive "confinement"

all the adult dogs need extra care now with the rest of us dealing with  olive-- so come ahead and walk/run and of them--- home depot would be a great walking spot in the rain...
anne took pi to costco yesterday and she never got down the first aisle for all the conversation pi started.  ... while paul bought 15 bags of dog food.... putting it in the back of tom's BMW --  (finally that car is useful)

i had didi  who made one suggestion about where we should go  and when i insisted we go straight,, she was fine...  talk about opinions...
**********************
gay and her husband came over last night to have a conversation with heydawg--  plan is for her to come over Saturday and stay overnight and practice  dog concepts-
like door opening--  (doors open 4 ways)  it is just a plan ahead deal
and loading and unloading from a car-- open your driver  door-- open the door for the dog-- and do not shut your door til you are in the drivers seat-- in case you fall, hit your head,, and get carried off--- the dog has an open door/window.

good thing i make it a habit--  the other day i had to park bailey while i shifted dogs around--- and put her in the durango--- AND WENT ROUND AND OPENED THE DRIVERS AND PASSENGER'S WINDOWS
good thiing  because 20 minutes later she came down to the t-tent with a "why did you leave me there" llook.
i had forgotten..

know thyself..
*******************

i will send round another DD when i get the blood test

June 22, 2011

slight delay in the daily doggie
because olive stood up !! split second--- but she stood and is now resting on her sternum quite comfortable looking.
she had 2 minor meals since 11pm - and this morning i did manage to roll her on to the other haunch-- the "downside leg" takes a beating if we don't rotate her.

bonnie's concept of putting her front end  on a wedge pillow to slide that mass of pups rearward off her diaphragm  seems to be a good idea- her respirations are very regular.  yesterday they were not.  we even tried the oxygen  but she would nave none of that.

maybe-- just maybe  whatever she had is being  helped by the 4 days antibiotic.

the plan  now is---
well--- start with the facts  --- she was bred april 23 25 27 and sperm lives a few days (on a warm desk at any rate) so first possible conception is 4/23

--- but could be a few days after 4/27 which gets us to Monday Tuesday Wednesday of next week..   making it unsafe to just plain do a c section on friday--   but of course--- there is a blood test to see if the pups are ready

so  the plan is blood test on thursday--- and if they are ready do the c section on friday-- but if they are not--- george's is closed over the weekend  and george is in ohio---  with andover emergency vet serv covering-
i have been there once-  with bobby-- $500 for not much  so i was worried
i called and asked what an emergency section would be on the weekend- and she said $2500.  which is actually less than i had thought.

so that is the plan--- keep gas in the durango-

yesterday i did not see how she could keep going til monday--- but today she looks nearly normal--
when her "family " arrives i bet she goes outside with minimal trouble,
i just don't dare do it alone.

it is hillary's day to drive tom  ( i bet olive out weighs hillary  by 50 pounds)

figure if there are 10 pups  at 1.25 pounds each plus an equal amount of "attending goo" olive is carrying an extra 25 pounds.

i bet paul comes today to help-- he is olive's stepdad
****************************
moving on----
*********************
barbara's son-- with the cycle accident-multiple skull fractures etc

DAY TWELVE ...still waiting for him to open his eyes..I saw each hour on the clock again last nite..today they will insert the feeding tube and take out the breathing tube. they said he should wake up today or tomorrow... still waiting............B

i hate to think of her trying to drive out of boston with no sleep -- which was her last known means of getting there...
we did figure she could take the train from beverly and then the green line for much less than parking and gas....  but with no sleep it gets to be a safety issue too

barbara if you are stuck give us a call and somehow someone will come get you.. and your car.

************************
brainstorm of the day..
i remembered gay rolands and her cane-- and how much she is like christine who had heydawg...  in spite of hey's massive size he is  a very delicate dog

anne and i took heydawg to meet gay at her work at the community college.
she was thrilled with him and he seemed to approve of her-- he needs a job and will be much happier with her.

she had some paperwork to do--- like getting verification of her vertigo from her doctor --
plan there is for her to come over Saturday night and spend the  required 24 hours with him-   she has even had danes before.

she has been around here a lot
famous for shucking the 3 bushels of corn for the clambake -- and paying $100 for the privilege of bringing her grandson here on Sunday to collect the day's fresh eggs.
***********************
and rhea must not have killed that woman's cats-- as she nas not been returned--- i did get her name  from janine--  she is a polo guru-- not the kind in the fancy hat-- the kind with callous' on their hands.

there is a saying around here that before any of these polo men think of marrying a woman she has to prove she can ride one horse and lead 4 others and gallop thru the woods  to keep the polo ponies fit so the men can ride on polo day.
******************

kieth called and they are doing well  he is working 5 days a week  his only comment is hudson has developed an aversion to slippery floors too--
what is this???  what are we not doing???
hudson will just get behind kieth's chair and hide-- thus not pulling him-- but at least not pulling him backwards either...
***************
danes and their quirks--- does make life interesting.
**************
and on top of  that    luna is red ( i.e coming in heat)
not the ideal-- but might be our last chance to get more bobby puppies----
by the time she is fertile we will know about olive's brood.

June 21, 2011

OLIVE IS UNCHANGED--
ACTUALLY I HAVE NOT TRIED TO GET HER ON HER FEET  OUTSIDE FOR FEAR I COULDN'T GET HER BACK IN...
I WILL HAVE TO WAIT FOR MEGAN AND PAUL  AND OR TONY AS THE LIFTERS OF THE DAY.

PRISCILLA SAID SHE WOULD COME AND CONSOL HER--

FLUID IS BEING PROCESSED THRU HER--  SO WE HAVE CONSIDERABLE LAUNDRY TO DO...

SHE LOOKS COMFORTABLE-- LYING ON HER SIDE  SHE  HAPPILY ATE 1/2 CUP COTTAGE CHEESE AND 3/4 CAN OF DOG FOOD.

I WILL START HER IV DRIP RUNNING AS SOON AS SOMEONE GETS HERE TO DEAL---
SHE WAS MUCH BETTER YESTERDAY AFTER HER STAY AT THE VETS WITH HER DRIP..

SINC E WE DO NOT KNOW WHAT THE CAUSE IS THERE IS NO VERY SPECIFIC TREATMENT--  SO IT IS ANTIBIOTIC --- IV FLUIDS AND INCREASE CALCUIM BY MOUTH-- ALL OF WHICH WE CAN DO AT HOME

IF THE ANTIBIOTIC  "WORKS"  THEN WE MIGHT ASSUME  TICK BORNE SOMETHING  SIMILAR TO LYME.  AND THAT SHOULD HAPPEN TODAY OR TOMORROW .

THE LYME--3 DAY CURE ON  DOXYCYCLINE (FOLLOWED BY 27 DAYS OF MORE DOXY) CAN NOT BE TRIED WITH THE PREGNANCY

SO ON WE GO.
 STAY TUNED..

EVERY DAY SHE  AT LEAST DOES NOT GET WORSE IS A PLUS-

AND I THINK WE ARE LOOKING AT A CEASERIAN BEFORE THE WEEKEND.
*********************************
P.S.
JANINE AND HER STRANGE  ROLLERBLADING WEEKENDS-

LAST MONTH WASHINGTON DC-- THIS MONTH PHILLADELPHIA-- NEXT BOSTON IN JULY AND THEN NEW YORK IN AUGUST.
SHE SAYS THE GROUP - ABOUT 100 ARE INTERESTING BUT STRANGE  GEEKS-  THEY HAVE AN EVENING ROLL FRIDAY NIGHT   THEN 2 ROLLS ON SATURDAY AND A SUNDAY MORNING.. SHE ROLLED 68 MILES.

I ASKED HOW MANY HOSPITALIZATIONS-- SHE SAID NONE--- THEY ARE ALL HELMETED AND PADDED AS THE  100  OF THEM FLY AROUND THE STREETS

EVERY TIME YOU THINK YOU HAVE HEARD IT ALL.....

June 20, 2011

HAVING AN OLIVE PROBLEM
SHE WILL NOT GET UP ON ALL 4 FEET.

I DID MANAGE TO ROLL HER OVER THIS MORNING....

DO I REMEMBER  SOMETHING ABOUT CALCIUM DEFICIENCY IN PREGNANT HORSES??
SHE DOES HAVE A SLIGHT TREMOR AT TIMES

SHE IS BIG--- BUT I HAVE SEEN  PREGO'S AS BIG BEFORE WITHOUT THIS.

GEORGE IS OUT OF STATE AND WILL  READ THIS (I HOPE)
BRINGING HER TO YOUR OFFICE IS NOT IMPOSSIBLE --- BUT NEARLY SO.

SHE LOOKS FINE-- DRANK ALOT OF WATER LAST NIGHT  ?7 CUPS?  ALOT...AND ATE 1/4 CAN OF FOOD WITH HER PILLS.

TOWEL UNDER HER RUMP IOS DRY

I COULD DRAW BLOOD AND TAKE IT  EASIER--- I HAVE SOME OLD PURPLE TOP VIALS IF THAT WOULD WORK--- OR GO GET WHATEVER.

THIS MORNING TEMPO 101.2   LAST NIGHT  102.0

SHE IS ON AMOXICILLIN  500MG---- 2 PILLS ---TWICE A DAY

HAD A SWOLLEN FOOT  BUT IT IS MUCH LESS SO NOW
I CAN'T TELL IF SHE WOULD PUT WEIGHT ON IT... SHE WON'T MAKE THE EFFORE TO STAND

OTHERWISE LOOKS PERFECTLY NORMAL-- EXCEPT  FLAT

THAT IS IT FOR THIS DAY... I HAVE TO GO OBSERVE OLIVE

THIS IS BAD

June 19, 2011

i hereby dismiss pistol todaY  -- she slept like a rock all night and show's absolutely no signs of whelp-- and her temp has been 100.4ish for the past 48 hours  ( i expect a drop to 98 about 24 hours before laBOR)

soon.... Tuesday .. to be replaCED olive  who is saGGIN - olive's due date is next weekend  so those of you who want to be called.. GET IT ON PAPER HERE-- DON'T JUST tell me --  MY MEMORY-- OR LACK THEREOF -- IS HISTORIC.

FRED ( NEW YORK PERSON) WANTED TO BE BACK FOR BRUNCH IN MANHATTAN  WITH HIS SON - SO THEY DROVE LAST NIGHT-

HE LEFT CLUTCHING THE  EGGS THAT HE COLLECTED WHILE DEFENDING HIMSELF AGAINST THE ROOSTER.-----THAT ROOSTER IS A WHOLE NEW EXPERIENCE FROM LIVING IN MANHATTAN.

ALONG WITH MANY OF YOU - HE COULD NOT UNDERSTAND WHY HAVE THAT NASTY ROOSTER---

GOOD QUESTION--- EXCEPT  HE DOES TEACH RESPECT-- AND I GET A KICK OUT OF THAT 5 POUND BEAST CHASING PEOPLE AROUND.

RELAXING  WITH HIM IN THE T TENT WAS A BIT OF AN EDUCATION-
HE SOUNDED EXACTLY LIKE SHELIA (THE BUSINESS WOMAN  WHO DEVELOPED NEADS) -- HE EVEN USED SOME OF THE SAME WORDS..
I HOPE HE CONTINUES TO OFFER COMMENTS.

WE DID GET TO costco  for some food-  couldn't really say we did training--  took barney, bailey and didi--  just an interesting side trip

actually the food is still in the van-- as are 16 concrete blocks to aid in the tuNNEL DEVELOPEMENT

ART BANGED AWAY AT ONE-- BUT SAID HE STAKED NO CLAIM TO IT'S COMPLETION-- SO ANYONE INSPIRED SHOULD BASH ON.

OTHER THAN THAT....

TODAY
SHOULD BE A NORMAL STEW  - WITH HOPEFULLY THE POT BACK IN ROTATION..

AND THE CUT AND PASTE
"graduate manny"

short sensible report:
Manny is now on a regular pee, poop and refuses to move from the door if he needs to go.He seems to have been welded to my left knee.
Hope your weekend is going well.
B&B

WELDED TO LEFT KNEE--- GOOD CONCEPT.

June 18th, 2011

PISTOL/AKA CLARA...  SPENT THE NIGHT DIGGING AND WANDERING WHILE I HAD NIGHTMARES OF DELIVERING 2 MERLES AND ONE HARL-- you have no idea how much noise she can make with toenails on sofa cushions  ----- she can not be preg...but in case--- we will take her temp today  (drop to 98 degrees means whelping within 24 hours)  i don't know what she is intending to whelp... SHE HAS NO TUMMY
COMPARED TO OLIVE WHO HAS THAT FAMILIAR SAG-- WITH A WEEK TO GO
FRED AND EMMA ARRIVED AND WE SPENT A COMFORTABLE AFTERNOON WATCHING THE SURROUNDINGS - LIKE MOVING THE  5 PUPS AROUND...ETC
TODAY THEY CAN DO THE PUPPY CALL AND FEED--
SOME DISCUSSION WAS HAD ABOUT GOING TO THE BRUINS PARADE--- I SUGGESTED TRAIN--ACTUALLY MY PREFERRED IS A 3 MINUTE CLIP ON THE NEWS. ---BEING NEW YORKERS A MOB SCEENE AND TRAFFIC JAM DOES NOT PHASE THEM.
BUD2 ,STEPH, ART AND A FEW OTHERS MADE HAMMERING NOISES-- I DON'T KNOW IF ANY TUNNELS GOT MADE-- BUT THEY ALL SEEMED HAPPY WHILE WANDERING AROUND WITH PIECES OF LUMBER..
AND THE POT GOT A GOOD SCRUBBING IN PREP FOR THE STEW.
AND PAUL THE PLUMBER GETS THE BLUE RIBBON FOR TACKLING THE DEAGLE HILL WITH THE WEED WHACKER/MOWER -- THE ONE ON WHEELS-- GOT ALL THOSE BIG LEAVED THINGS THAT PRODUCE
 BURRRRRS.
FRANKIE IS A BIG HIT WITH HIS NEW OVERNIGHT Family--SO BOBBY IS BACK WITH RHEA TIL FRANKIE  COMES BACK
AND BARBARA DID CALL-  SHE MIGHT EVEN BE HERE-- WE ARE SET FOR HER IN THE TRAINING ROOM WITH THE 2 BEDS THERE- SHE WILL COME AND GO AT RAMDOM- AS SHE IS IN A TERRIBLE SITUATION WITH KC-- I DO NOT THINK HE HAS REGAINED CONSCIOUSNESS YET-- BUT THEY DID GET A SCREW IN HIS NECK.
OTHER THAN THAT---
TODAY-- I DUNNO-
HILLARY IS GETTING HER SISTER MARRIED SO WE HAVE SUB'S DORCHESTER KATIE FOR THE MORNING AND SUNDAY SANDY FOR THE AFTERNHOON--- WITH THERESA IN THE LATE MORNING--
AT SOME POINT I HAVE TO GET DOG FOOD AND STEW STUFF AT COSTCO-- BUT WHEN DEPENDS ON FRED AND EM-- THEY MIGHT THINK IT FUN TO  DO A COSTCO RUN WITH SOME DOGS.
AND THEN THERE IS PISTOL  WHO IS SQUEEZED IN SITTING BEHIND BAILEY--  LOOKING AT ME WITH THE "I Am  a very tall dog" look.  while baliey does not move.
bad thing--- PI has taken to cleaning up bailey's left eye-- the one with the tiny pinpoint of a bump in the corner-- eagle eyes george saw that  months ago-- and gave it a nasty name-- like tumor---
 FROM CHICAGO
even tho i don't have an SDP dog (i wish i did) i still read the dd with interest.  please let barbara know that she and her son are in my thoughts and prayers.............i hope her son has a complete recovery.

AND TEXAS
SDC11011.jpg   You sent out an e-mail about Bobby and Luna's last litter together.  You forgot to mention Stormy was in that litter.  She is hurt because she thinks she is quite beautiful, too.
She is getting bigger.  I can't believe that Great Danes continue to grow after they reach two, but it happens.  One day she fit in her harness, the next it was too small.  My vet, Barry guessed her final weight at 130.  She laughs at that.  I am thinking she is over 150 pounds but that is a guess.  I need to have her weighed.  She has the one blue eye and like her brother, Hudson her other eye is half blue and half brown.  Hers is split horizontal, causing her to look like her eye is half shut.  She also uses it to look evil sometimes when she is contemplating an action I might not like.  She has learned to fetch toilet paper out of the cupboard, which is handy when you are sitting and realize you have run out.  You don't have to panic, Stormy will bring it.  It has teeth marks in it, but after you use a few sheets they disappear.  For the people who helped her grow from birth to 8 weeks old, she was Clipper.  I have attached two photos of her.  One is of her sitting with Cinder under a table at Starbucks.  She insists on being under the chair.  I don't make her do that.
I miss everyone there and hope to come up there in the fall.  It was 103 degrees today, so maybe we should come now???

i have a lot to do today  and as soon as anyone gets here, i had better get at it.

parts of the lawn... and just a walk around...

bud is here today and he can check all the gas tyoe stuff in the vehicles..mowers etc

bud2 and tony will be a huge help

if bud2's wife is here she could manage the pups

the guest house looks good--

interesting chore might be to cut the legs off the table soon to be a coffee table.

we might need a hand saw for that..

barbara said she might be up this morning-- we have set up the training room for her and guy-- seeing as that could be a months visit-- her son has still not regained consciousness..

and the person of interest said his eta would be about 2

and you would not believe this floor !!!  massive cleanup needed here.
another 3 pounds

please show up at random  and save me

June 15th, 2011

reminder--- we have very few smokers around here---so to refresh your memory.. smoking is allowed only while you are touching the vehicle in which you came.
and one other chore.... any smoker has the immediate chore of raking the hay away from the door to the barn...it collects there from mary and the hay drop-- and even a  total stranger is inclined to not enter the barn with a cigarette by dropping it before they go in the barn.

and in this case that hay collection could be fatal..

besides what better chore to do???

manny  progress

All joking apart he is making progress by significant measures.
Although it takes some time he now makes it to around 6:00 am to 7:00am to enthusiastically stand there and place his head in the collar, select a spot, circle it and pee.Inside for a bowl of breakfast and outside for a poop.We are keeping our fingers crossed,
this lunch time he made a slight move to the pooping exit and I took the hint..he produced gallons. He comes when called and willingly comes to his food. He now has two toys and althoough he has damaged a good pair of shoes is not chewing the furniture. He plays with the toys and makes great leaps to play hunt them.
His bed is the subject of much adjustment...it makes a lot of noise as he adjusts it. I sound like a new mother but you asked me to tell you !! I made up his bed with mattress pads and a huge cushion on top.He looked under cushion, pushed  his head under the cushion, pushed the cushion to the end, pushed it over for a pillo .Lay down .head on the pillow and went to sleep.
He follows wherever wherever Burness and I go.
I think you need not worry about him. But I will
B

the usual day

in the out and around portion----- i think i will have this be key day.. and get all the car keys duplicated

other chore is to check on the linnens for the guest house..

and remove any of the frozen rodents from the freezer to george's owl dept.

i have not heard from barbara yet..

PISTOL REPORT-
SHE MAY NOT HAVE PUPS---- BECAUSE I HAVE SEEN A FALSE PREGNANCY GO TO  EXTREMES-- BUT SHE IS NOW TEARING UP THE SHEETS ETC ... AND MOST SIGNIFICANT SHE TRIED TO GET UNDER THE FRONT PORCH---( THIS IS WHY WE HAVE THAT WHITE PLASTIC COVERING THERE- THE SPACE IS 2; HIGH   WITH SPIDERS AND CHIPMONKS ETC AND ALL PREGNANT DOGS SEEM TO WANT TO GET IN THERE--)
VISIONS OF CRAWLING AROUND TO SEE IF THE PREG MOM HAS LEFT A PUP THERE ARE HORRENDOUS

SO SHE MUST BE UNDER CONSTANT WATCH

SHE EVEN INVESTIGATED THE PEN WE HAD SET UP FOR HER--- AND TORE THAT ALL TO BITS TOO.
*******************

BUD2 SAID HE MIGHT COME ALONG FRIDAY--- HOPEFULLY WE CAN MAKE SOME SERIOUS PROGRESS ON THE TUNNELS FOR THE KENNEL DOGS TO KEEP RAIN/SNOW FALLING OFF THE ROOF FROM HITTING THEM IN THE HEAD.

WE HAVE LUMBER FROM KRISTANS HOUSE IN BOXFORD-- THAT THE REAL CARPENTERS SAID WAS CROOKED---
WON'T MAKE ANY DIFFERENCE TO US  ----- FREE ELIMINATES  CONCERNS OF CROOKED.

AND TONY WILL BE HERE FRIDAY TOO--
***************************

JASPER HAS DEVELOPD A NASTY HABIT OF "POKING" HIS NOSE AT PEOPLE-- NOT BITING-- BUT THOSE SAME MOVEMENTS-- TOTALLY UNANNOUNDCED-- POKE--- WITH AUTHORITY---- COULD BE HE WAS THE  NOSE POKER WITH THE YUPPY PUPPY-- I DON'T KNOW WHAT HE HAS IN MIND --- BUT HE BEARS WATCHING...
***********************
COMPANY ARRIVING IN THE GUEST HOUSE TOMORROW---  SO A COMPLETE RUN THRU THERE IS NECESSARY  AND WE WILL SET UP THE 2 ROLLAROUND BEDS IN THE TRAINING ROOM IN CASE BARBARA AND GUY NEED A PLACE TO CRASH.

***************************
AND CLEAN UP THE STEW POT FOR  SUNDAY   AND DO AN ACTUAL  STEW -- DO NOT LET THAT DISCOURAGE ANYONE FROM BRINGING CASSEROLLES OR NORMAL FOOD---
**************************
FRANKIE HAS GONE HOME WITH FRED FOR AN OVERNIGHT-- AND WILL BRING HIM BACK THIS MORNING WHEN HE GOES TO WORK..

HEYDAWG AND FIDO ARE WITH MEGAN AND WILL BE BACK TODAY..
MEHAN'S SISTER IS GETTING MARRIED  SO WE WON'T SEE  MEGAN AGAIN TIL SUNDAY
-**************
TODAY
THERESA WILL COVER THE HOUSE WHILE I GO OUT SOMEWHERE PER USUAL

MANNIE REPORT

Took Mannie into the store  and he was uncomfortable.Took me a moment to work ir out (well I have been trained by "C.) We have
lots of life size bears, cats and such  plus there was a very small female person dressed in olde fashioned clothes gliding down the isle, Bej.. I almost ran myself (turned out to be a docent from Hildene.Robert Todd Lincolns home) . Mannie and I clung to each other for mutual support and moved on.
The next Jerk to appear on our now, joint venture was a trio of  missionaries from the nether regions of  amateur dog authorities. The assemblage really was a count of four because clutched the arms of  the witch was a very small white dog.
The idiot ,we might call him dog berry, immediately began an assault on Mannie to come and be socialised.I ,on behalf of my friend Mannie ,told Dog berry to please excuse us we wish to be alone. There followed a strange message about the small white dog being a therapy dog who was experienced in meeting much larger dogs who could do him no harm. All this time our Heroic Mannie looked stoicly to the front ,turning occaionally to raise an eyebrow. The elder statesman of this quartet turned out to be a WW2 veteran from Pattons lot.M and I liked this guy when he  expreesed his opinion of what turned out to be  his son was that he was a changeling. As usual a Great Dane saved my bacon...I did not break my promise to Mannie that I would be as cool as he was,or at least put on a stiff upper lip. Later on Mannie confided that he thought I looked better like this rather than my screamiming Lord such act when accosted by ignoranr looneys.Of such strange meetings are bonding made

BERNARD HAS IT RIGHT THERE ---  "OF SUCH STRANGE MEETINGS BONDINGS ARE MADE"

PI-- AS IN 22/7  --- OR MARCH 14TH (   3.14)    I FEAR I AM RAISING A SECOND CHAOS

WHAT A BRAT

SHE CAN BARK ANY DOG OFF ANY COUCH-AND IF I AM EATING IN FRONT OF HER.. SHE WILL TALK TO ME ABOUT THE CONCEPT OF SHARING... WITH A PATHETIC LOOK.

AS FOR A DISAPPOINTING TRIP TO GEORGE'S YESTERDAY...

AS FOR IMPENDING PISTOL PUPPIES   GEORGE 'S QUOTE "I WOULD BE VERY SURPRIZED IF SHE HAS ANY--"-  SO WOULD I.... BUT THEN AGAIN BOTH GEORGE AND I HAVE BEEN SURPRIZED BEFORE.  SHE IS AN AWFULLY BIG DOG--- AND LONG--- SO WE WAIT AND WATCH--- BUT WON'T HOLD OUR BREATHS,     HER 63RD DAY IS NEXT SUNDAY

AND BOBBY -  THE MASS OF INFECTED PROSTATE IS STILL EVIDENT ON THE ULTRASOUND- AND NOT ANY SMALLER-
BOBBY ACTS FINE-- BUT THE URINE SAMPLE MEGAN CAUGHT IS A BROWN/GREEN-- SO SOMETHING IS GOING ON...  WE TOOK A BLOOD SAMPLE AND DID A  URINE CULTURE TO SEE IF MAYBE A DIFFERENT ANTIBIOTIC MIGHT BE BETTER..
BUT GEORGE'S  COMMENT THERE WAS BETTER USE HIM AND THEN NEUTER HIM AS QUICKLY AS POSSIBLE.

WHICH LEAVES... LUNA WHO IS DUE IN HEAT VERY SOON... AND TOOOOOOO FAT.. BUT WE WILL HAVE TO TRY THAT .. HER LAST BOBBY LITTER WAS HUDSON-- HEYDAWG AND GEORGIA-- A BEAUTIFUL LITTER... GREAT DOGS..   AND IT WOULD BE HER LAST BEFORE RETIREMENT.   SHE DOES SEEM TO ENJOY THE ATTENTION OF MOTHERHOOD.

I MENTIONED TO GEORGE  WE HAD GUESTS COMING THIS WEEKEND-- AND HE COMMENTED "BETTER GO HOME AND CLEAN UP THE PLACE."   WHICH ON TOP OF THE REST ALMOST CAUSED A MELTDOWN

I KNOW HE WAS ONLY KIDDING-  HE IS NOT AROUND HERE ENOUGH TO REALIZE HOW FINELY TUNED THE PLACE IS-- AND IT'S SOMEWHAT CASUAL NATURE SEEMS TO BE APEALING TO ALL DIFFERENT SORTS OF PEOPLE WHO ENJOY SUNDAY'S HERE.

HE WOULD PROBABLY PUT MARY IN A STALL SO SHE WOULD NOT STICK HER FACE IN AN APPLE PIE WHEN WE ARE NOT LOOKING.
NO FUN AT ALL.
SO THERE.

TONY IS COMING TODAY-AND MEGAN  AND THERESA
SO WE CAN GO SOMEWHERE AND LEAVE PI HOME

GOT TO WORK ON TONY WHO HAS EXTENSIVE OBEDIENCE TRAINING  WHICH NEEDS A LITTLE SOFTENING FOR SERVICE WORK.

AND THE PUPS ARE GETTTING THE CANNED FOOD SPOON FED/ NAME CALLING TREATMENT AT THE MOMENT.  INSIDE OR OUTSIDE  NAME CALLING.
THE ONLY ONE TO FLIP AND  COME  AT HIS NAME IS   CHARLIE
NEED 4 MORE,

AND  MANNIE---

I have persuaded Mannie to advertise his business for sale and he agreed last night. It is early days but dynamism.goOd looks, drive and word from She who must be obeyed, led to intense surveying of the ancient home of the Clark's, led to a going out of business sign with an explanation about the market being surfeited by politicians who seemed able to produce more of the" stuff In 5 minutes than any dog in a life time. His subsidiary "Yellow Rain" is also for sale.

FROM FRED  RE:FRANKIE

Hello.  Hope you and your doggies are all well.  Sorry I wasn't able to drop by to see Frankie the last few days.  I intend to come by tomorrow afternoon after my Audubon class and and will be taking Frankie home with me for overnight, if that is ok with you.  My wife and I look forward to this a lot.  By the way, just out of curiosity, have you ever had Frankie inside your house?  Just wondering if he knows about not going inside and asking to go out when he needs to.  It will be interesting.  Thanks for your patience.  Take care.  See you tomorrow...

Most Sincerely,

HERE - YOU READ---

Hi Carlene,

This is Melissa writing on Barbara's behalf.  She is staying with me, and can be reached by emailing me, or calling me at 617-378-5141.

Casey has been in an accident.  He was riding his scooter on the Vineyard Friday night and crashed into a tree sometime around 1:30.  A passerby found him at 5:30 and called 911.  He was taken to MV hospital and then med flighted to Beth Israel at 7.  He has multiple skull fractures, brain bleeding (which had stopped as of Sunday morning's CT scan), broken orbital socket, fractured vertebrae, a head wound from the helmet, some deep cuts, road rash, and other bumps and bruises.

Casey has not been conscious.  He was intibated at the scene.  He is having surgery to place a screw in his neck tomorrow at 3.  They are hoping to extibate him on Wednesday if all goes well, but he is showing pneumonia.

Barbara is staying here with me in Wakefield, but I have a newborn, so she might need a night at your house to get away from the night time crying baby.  Her Dad's house is full because Chelsea is staying there.

MEGAN TOOK FIDO... HEYDAWG... AND BAILEY  LAST NIGHT  we were concerned about heydawg and the wood stairs/slippery floor syndrome.

HER REPORT..
Everyone is doing great. They had a nice long run around the yard. We all went upstairs hey took his time but he came up.
I got up and went down stairs to eat dinner and at first none of them moved. As I was eating I heard a dog on the stairs, it was fido with hey right behind him!! I gave them both some chicken and then as if she knew I was handing out food baily came running down:) we are having a great time.
Ill see you tomorrow

THIS IS BECAUSE PISTOL IS HERE FOR THE WEEK IN PREPARtion for whatever..
i have to admit  she certainly is not blooming,.... rounding out.. indicating any of those kind of things normal for  pending delivery
-my only hope is... i didn't think merlow was pregnant either-- and she had the 5 pups
pistol is a really big dog-- and she does have a week to go...
and they did see something on the ueltrasound--- 6-8 thingsthat the could not figure out what they were besides pups...-- and then we remembered pistol was the rock eater as a pup--- maybe ?????

she was on the sofa next to my comupter--- and when i went to bed pi did some significant barking-- when i looked pi was on that sofa and pistol was looking for a place to sleep.
a little audacity is good--- but i think we have to watch her !!
******************
no further from bernard  so they must be struggling on.

maybe take bobyy to see george today--he has a pequiliar discharge--
and carry pi along for the ride.

Dear Carlene,
Mannie has invented a new and devastating occupation.
"Mannie's Mountainous Megaliths and Mementos."Sole proprietor and erector Emmanuel Clark.
His plan seems to be to leave one at least in every room.
It is perplexing to consider the amount,I can't remember......but he is now a regular explorer of the yard on the end of a 30' traing leash. We looked at the retractable kinds but they were too flimsy and with one bound he would be free!  Yes it has to be managed but anything is better than having him see something he wants to explore and ........ .
We have just had a visit from Joel (Comcast} he breeds Brittanny Spaniels for hunting. mannie went straight to him and followed us both around the house during our search to fix the problems with our wireless network. You would have been proud of Mannie's social skills.
I am working from home with mannie making sure I do not goof off.Burness is at the store and I have again noticed Mannie's contentment level changes when we are all together and when Burness goes off to the outside world.
He ,with all three together, plays with a huge ball, tossing it in the air, leaping over it and generally behaving like a great Galah or maybe one of Mickey's friends. When there is ceo work to be done Mannie watches her leave and settles down to wait for her return.
We so enjoyed the time we spent with you and the giving people who gave up their time in order to take us around and quietly make sure Mannie and I did not have catatastrophic melt downs...Dr. Tom assured me I looked about 40 and I again said"your'e a loveley man...and so he is.
I am so touched by  Hilary and Megan. When Hilary, seeing Mannie practising one the structures, she said I'll get it! (No).Paul would not have let me move some food if I had not been so b...y minded I could go on to remember Megan's smile and wave  good bye  there are so many other kind faces and firm handshakes .
We both were very sorry to leave and wish the rest of the world could be like all the people there.

Thank you for Mannie and for your unstinting gifts of help, advice and sheer fun.

Bernard  and Burness

I DON'T KNOW WHY--- MAYBE THE RAIN CAUSED THEM TO DECIDE NOT TO "GO" OUTSIDE--- BUT THERE WERE MOUNTAINS HERE TODAY TOO- AS I BAGGED IT  I JUST HAD TO WEIGH IT----3 POUNDS   FROM BAILEY PI AND HEYDAWG.

WHICH REMINDS ME I HAVE TO CALL AND GET HTE DUMPSTER EMPTIED.

I CONSIDERED GETTING A SECOND DUMPSTER AT THE HOUSE AND EMPTYING THE CELLAR-  WITH THAT LAST TORNADO BIT--- I AM NOT SURE WHICH WOULD BE WORSE THE TORNADO OR SPENDING 1/2 HOUR IN THE CELLAR--  AND ALOT OF IT IS VALUABLE--- MY PENNY FARTHING BIKE AND SEVERAL WODDEN BEDS WHICH WOULD BE VALUABLE FIREWOOD.

TODAY'S RANT
I REALIZE IT IS RELATIVELY UNAMERICAN TO USE OBJECTS FOR SOMETHING OTHER THAN FOR WHICH THEY WERE CREATED.  I KNOW SOMEONE THREW AWAY MY BENT CURTAIN ROD WITH WHICH I  PULLED PAPER GOODS OFF THE BALCONY.. THERE IS A "GRABBER" DESIGNED FOR THAT PURPOSE--- AND I HAVE ONE--- BUT IT DOES NOT FOOT THE BILL LIKE THAT BENT CURTAIN ROD.

THERE IS ALOT OF THAT KIND OF THING IN THE JOB MARKET TOO.. IF SOMEONE HAS AN  MBA IN BUSINESS MANAGEMENT  DOES THAT MEAN HE CAN COLLECT UNEMPLOYMENT RATHER THAN TAKE A JOB IN GARBAGE TRUCK DRIVING??

WHY IS IT EVERYONE IS DESPARATE FOR A"TRADESMAN"  AND 10% OF THE POPULATION IS UNEMPLOYED AND IN DEBT DUE TO THEIR COSTLY  "HIGHTER EDUCATION" WHICH THEY WERE LED TO BELIEVE WAS NECESSARY.
MIKE ROWE AND HIS DIRTY JOB SHOW MAKES A HUGE POINT- IT ALSO MAKES ME WONDER WHY SOME OF THOSE DIRTY JOBS DON';T DEMAND THE SALARY SOME OF THOSE BANKERS GET. .  FOR WHAT??

CLASSLESS SOCIETY IS ABOUT AS TRUE AS PAPERLESS OFFICE IN JUNEAU ALASKA---  how many boatloads of paper did they need for the latest
or ink cartridges..  i would like to know who made that decision to print.

so anyway..

today
normal Sunday stew

now i have to go look up -----unstinting

IT WAS  ONLY A FEW MINUTES BEFORE HE LEFT THAT I THINK MANNY DECIDED BERNARD WAS HIS PERSON  AND IT WAS A CONSCIOUS THOUGHT--

FINALLY WHEN BERNARD HELD OUT THE COLLAR MANNY STUCK HIS HEAD IN IT.
like when helen keller finally realized that water was being spelled in her hand in the movie "miracle worker"

ONE MONTH AGO THE SIGHT OF BERNARD WITH A COLLAR WOULD HAVE SENT MANNY UP ROUTE 95 AT 40 MPH. ----- IT HAS BEEN A LONG MONTH...

IN THE 4 DAYS BERNARD WAS HERE YOU COULD SEE MANNY TRYING TO FIGURE OUT WHO WAS THIS GUY??THE SITUATION IS MADE MORE COMPLICATED BY THE HESITATION  IN MOVEMENTS DUE TO PK.

MOST ANY DOG -- BEND at a right angle--- and mince toward the dog and they will either bark or bolt backwards---( or i suppose... bite)
the movement is exactly what george does when he wants to look at a dog's eye..  with flashlight in hand he moves toward the dog--- usually slowly because he has been bitten more than once i am sure --- tho not by our dogs...  the dogs take that movement as a very aggressive thing to do.

it is one of those times when you can not be confused along with the dog and give a quick command they understand- which in the case of our dogs is "hold still danm it"

maybe that is today's handling lesson---
" when a dog does not know what to do... tell them"

no brilliant  remarks today

except to wonder why i passed janine on th e road in MY( AS IN MY OWN---  I PAID FOR  ) DURANGO WITH THE A/C GOING  AND THE COA A/C IS NOT YET MAKING COLD AIR.

IT WAS ONE OF THOSE "WHAT IS WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE" MOMENTS

THAT DURANGO WAS TO BE LEFT HERE FOR MY USE AND HORSE TRAILER PULLING--- SHE HAS A NEW CAR

AND THE ELECTRIC PART OF THE COUNCIL OF AGING VAN NOW WORKS--- ALL WE NEED ( HOPEFULLY ) IFS TO GET IT "CHARGED"  WHICH OUR USUAL  TOPSFIELD MECH CAN DO.

to be done very specifically--- so if you have not had my lecture  don't do it till i speak with you.  we are trying to raise service dogs--- not dogs you drag around by the collar til they give up..

i could not believe all the breakfast bars i have been buying for  volunteer snacks-- yesterday i found our why

manny "graduates"  today and goes home to vermont- bernard can walk really well with him-- manny still has to figure out bernard's movements better-- but they should do well
the difference in bernard's walk is amazing--- i am not sure why--- but whatever-it is working... instead of mincing along taking 4" steps, he strides out.
watching them gives me some more ideas on what i should be doing with them ahead of time.
i want to do a few minutes of door opening and harness putting on before they leave..
******************
heydawg was not as bad as thumper--- but he does not like thunder either  and gets very worried.

*********************
that storm did not seem to bother pi at all-- she is certainly a brat..
barking at me for not sharing my dinner with her.

she had a lesson about sharing --- bailey took a dim view of her asking for just one bite--- so bailey gave it to her.

it was interesting because colleen was trying to keep pi away from bailey's dish by holding her back  - and that was not working-- one snap from bailey ( that did not contact pi's skin--- but the KLANKING OF BAILEY'S TEETH  was significant---) that snap and pi backed up 3' and watched her eat in silence.

biiiiiiiigggggggg training lesson there.--   bailey's version of the whiffle bat.

my old adage--- you can not train a dog moving him around with your muscles--  it does not work--i can not tell you the hours i have spent thru the years  rolling a dog around trying to get him to roll over-  ( many many years-----since age 5 was when it was first noted--  never did succeed)

if you pull down on a dog's leash-- he will pull UP-  the equal and opposite rule of physics-- so unless you get into the ULTIMATE PULL__ THE CONCEPT IS NOT GOING TO  WORK  YOU HAVE TO MESS WITH THEIR THINKING

IT IS THE SAME AS TRYING TO GET MARY LOADED ON THE HORSE TRAILER___ IF YOU PULL HER FORWARD  SHE WILL GET HER HEAD UP AND PULL BACKWARDS AND DRAG YOU WHEREVER SHE WANTS TO GO AS IF YOU WERE A FLEA AT THE END OF HER LEAD ROPE.
BETTER THAT YOU STAND IN FRONT WITH A CARROT AND SAY PLEASE_____
OR HAS ACTUALLY BEEN PROVEN>>> GET ME TO STAND a hundred feet away and yell "mARY GET ON THAT TRAILER OR I WILL WRING YOUR NECK"  AND SHE WALKED ON...

I THINK DRESSAGE IS A SIMILAR  CONCEPT  "IMPULSION MUST COME FROM THE REAR HAUNCHES."
*************

HEYDAWG' FAMILY  --- BUCKET  BRIGIT--- SAID SHE WOUD TAKE HIM FOR A WALK TODAY--- HE WILL LIKE THAT...  ALSO HIS FRIEND FIDO WILL BE HERE.

TODAY'S SCHEDULE--- NORMAL I GUESS...

MEGAN AND I MAY GO SOMEWHERE LATE MORNING...

OTHER THAN THAT......

ANY OPINIONS OFFERED BY ME ARE SUBJECT TO CHANGE

June 9, 2011

I AM STARTING A BIT LATE--

MANNY IS PROGRESSING

WALKING BEAUTIFULLY WITH BERNARD-- PAUSING AT CURBS--- STAIRS  ETC

APPARENTLY --FAIRLY NORMAL IN THE HOUSE-- BUT IN THE T-TENT, HE WENT FROM
1. " IF YOU HAVE THAT LEASH IN YOUR HAND I WILL NOT GO NEAR YOU EVEN FOR LIVER---"
TO
2 WITHOUT THE  COLLAR...MAYBE A CAN SNEAK IN AND GET THE LIVER
3 TO "I'M HERE AS YOU CALLED--- WHERE IS THE LIVER?"
4. ?GOT ANY ?
5. TO HECK WITH THE COLLAR IN YOUR HAND-- THAT LIVER IS ADDICTIVE.
*********************
PROGRESSIONS DO WORK
******************
WE NEED TO CONCENTRATE ON VERY CONTROLLED SPOON FEEDING  WITH  THAT WAIT-- PARTICULARLY  CALLING FROM  A DISTANCE

IT WILL BE HOT-- SO MAYBE  DO THAT TOMORROW- AND SPEND THE DAY TRYING TO KEEP OURSELVES AND THE DOGS COOL.

WE HAVE MISTERS LINED UP FOR THE KENNEL DOGS'

*************************

VETS...
WE HAVE A NEW VOLUNTEER-   TONY -- VET WHO SPENT IRAQ TIME WITH THEIR BOMB SNIFFING DOGS  30 GERMAN SHEPHARDS- INTERESTING
HE HAS TIME TO SPEND HERE SAT AND SUNDAY
HE PASSED THE FIRST TEST AS WE--- ALL--- HAD COLLAPSED IN THE T-TENT MISTER  AND  PI NEEDED TO BE BROUGHT DOWN FROM THE HOUSE
SO WITH ONLY THE INSTRUCTINS OF " THERER IS A PUPPY IN THE HOUSE WITH A FUNNY THING ON HER HEAD WHO NEEDS TO COME DOWN HERE..."
AND HE GOT HER !

HE ALSO SAID HE HAD NEVER SEEN ANY THING LIKE THIS HEAD GEAR--- WHICH LOOKS EVEN MORE WIERD BECAUSE I RAN OUT OF BLACK ELECT TAPE  SO IT IS MULTI COLORED.
TONY HAS HAD - I THINK - ALOT OF EXPERIENCE IN THE "NORMAL" DOG WORLD-- SO HE SHOULD BE AN INTERESTING ADDITION.

SUDDENLY FACED WITH THAT HAT-- HE ASSUMED I DID NOT KNOW ABOUT ALL THE WHITE TAPE ROUTINE-
AND GEORGE  OFFERED TO SHOW ME MORE TAPING...
I HAVE BEEN THRU MILES OF TAPE--,TAMPONS--,COLLAR STAYS --, TIE WRAPS-- AND BREATHE RIGHT STRIPS.......
BUT AS I LOOK THE SITUATION OVER  I THINK I WILL TRY STAYING WITH THE COAT HANGERS-- SHE IS VERY COMFORTABLE WITH THE RIG--- AND I THINK IT IS A VET/HUMAN TENDANCY TO GET IT ALL COVERED UP WITH CLEAN LOOKING  WHITE TAPE-- I AM NOT CONVINCED IT IS BETTER FOR THE DOG.  IT JUST LOOKS MORE ORGANIZED THAN BLACK ANDN YELLOW PADDED COAT HANGERS

THERE IS NO INDICATION  HER EARS ARE BOTHERING HER AT ALL

IT IS AN OUT OF THE BOX SITUATION--
***********************
MEGAN IS BACK

SCHEDULE TODAY

GO WITH MANNIE AND BERNARD TO SOMEWHERE AIRCONDITIONED AND PRACTICE

SUDBAY IS ON THEIR WAY WITH A SHUTTLE TO PICK UP TOM AND PAUL TO GET THE COA VAN...

LET US PRAY THE A/C NOW WORKS...

busy day ahead-- but lotsa help scheduled..

luckily allison sent 2 emails   for me to cut and paste her trip to penna with spot

only black eye was in newburgh----days inn--- i hope she nails them for this behavior
************************
Hi Carlene,
We just got back from PA (I'll send you a different email about our adventures, particularly the zoo) but coming back, we stayed in a Days Inn in Newburgh, NY.  When they saw me enter with Spot, they immediately got all defensive and said that I needed to fill out a form.   On the form were the questions:

1) Are you legally disabled?

2) Is your service animal a requirement of your disease/disorder?

The next paragraph said a vaccination record was required and the next paragraph had the ADA definition of a legal disability.  The last paragraph said that any damages caused by the dog were my responsibility, etc. and then  a signature/date line.

I gave them a hard time about it, saying that it wasn't legal, but it was late and I was really tired, so I signed it anyway.  I'm kicking myself for signing it now.  Are they allowed to ask #1 and 2?  I know they aren't allowed to ask for the vaccination record, but I gave them the SDP certified service dog card and they were satisfied.

On the way out this morning, I again brought it up and they had the same angry attitude, saying something about NY law and how they had to abide by ADA but could essentially make up their own rules to add to it.  Granted I was pretty mad by this time, but wasn't going to deal with their being completely disrespecful of a person using a wheelchair and basically ignoring me and speaking to my husband, so I left.  I have every intention of taking this higher, but want to make sure I'm in the right before I do.

It was my understanding that people are allowed to ask me 3 things only and nothing more.

1) What is my disability?
2) Is the dog a service dog and what services does she provide?
3) Ask for her ID card.
***********************************

i did not think it was legal to ask what her disability is.

and i wonder if she has a copy of that paper?????
***************************

and then her trip to the zoo-- spot's doing well !
**********************

Hi Carlene,
We returned today from a 4 day trip to Philadelphia.  Spot was great in the car the whole way, as she always is.  It's an 8-hour drive from here, but less stressful and much cheaper than flying, so we put up with the drive.  Before we got to the city Thursday night, we stopped at a grassy area to let her pee and it's a good thing we did because she wouldn't go again for 24 hrs. The next morning was my appointment with my neurologist, but I work in a hospital so that appointment was no big deal for her.  She pulled me along in my wheelchair through the parking garage with my husband steering a little.  That afternoon, we went to Reading Terminal Market which is a market run by the Amish with fresh produce, meats, chocolates, etc and it's always been jam packed with people when I've been there before, so I was a little hesitant to bring her there with the chair since we take up so much space in the aisles.  But I did it anyway and she was great.  She pulls on the chair in varying degrees according to her anxiety and she pulled moderateely at first, but backed right off toward the end.  We went to a restaurant 10-12 blocks away and ate outside which was perfect for her and then we walked to a few different parks, where eventually she peed.  (The noise of the city was really distracting to her.  She was fine with buses and trucks, but the noise of the trains and honking bothered her.)  After that, we walked to Independence Hall, which was quite aways, so she was pretty tired by the end of the day.

We had one incident where she started jumping around and then it looked like her back legs were collapsing.  It scared me until I realized that we had stopped on a sewer cover and it was too hot for her to stand on. I never thought of her feet until that point, but after that, we tried to walk in the shade when possible.

Saturday we walked some more in the morning to the Mint and then went to the zoo in the afternoon.  That was an adventure!  It was packed with kids and people, so she was pulling pretty hard to begin with.  Unbeknownst to me, we entered the Big Cat House allmost immediately.  (I wish she had had time to acclimate to the surroundings first.)  She was fine with the lions but I don't think they saw us.  The next exhibit was some cat about the size of a lab who had the markings of a cheetah but wasn't a cheetah.  It was pretty close to the glass when we got there, just sniffing around.  It quickly saw us and came right over to investigate and clearly wasn't happy.  Spot saw it and backed up as fast as she could.  We left quickly when I realized what was going on.  I didn't know when we left the first cat that the next house was a puma.  When we entered, it was lounging way on the other side of the enclosure but came over fast when it saw us.  It came with an assertive look, not hissing or growling....yet.  Spot freaked out when she saw it, rightly so, and pulled me out of there at top speed!  She was pretty worked up for the next 20-30 minutes but eventually calmed down.  We did go see the gorillas but were far enough away that I don't think they saw Spot.  I wasn't taking any chances after the puma!  The bears and hippos and most of the other animals just ignored her.

We drove a few hours north yesteray and the rest today.  She's sleeping by my side as I write this and I know she'll be happy to be back in her routine tomorrow.  She did so well on her first trip to the city that we're taking her again in October.  No zoos this time though!

AND I HAVE THE PLANS ALL SET FOR 3( MORE) LITTERS  SUMMER/FALL-- USING THE BACK ROOM AND DECK--- AND FOR THAT WE NEED A BARRIER ACROSS THE DECK--- AND WE HAVE NOT DONE THAT YET---
SO HAMMERING IS IN ORDER..
RE DESIGN- OF BOTH THE NUT HOUSE AND THE DEAGLE HOUSE SHOULD HAPPEN
W SHOULD UTILIZE THE POLYMAX WALL BOARDS  AS MUCH AS WE CAN AFFORD... THEY ARE CALLED  INDESTRUCTABLE   AND THEY NEARLY ARE AS FAR AS I CAN SEE.
HAVE A LOOK AT THEM AT FARMTEK
(FARM TEK IS THE COMPANY WHO PUT UP THE ARENA)
THE HEAT IS ON..
PISTOL IS GETTING PUFFY  SHE HAS 2 WEEKS TO GO  AND OLIVE IS ROUND TOO--- SHE HAS 3 WEEKS TO GO--
THIS MEANS PISTOL SHOULD BE COMING HERE IN ABOUT A WEEK TO GET USED TO THE HOUSE---- BEFORE WHELPING--- AND ARE WE GOING TO HAVE A "BIRTHING LIST"?  SOMEBODY BETTER START ONE-- DON'T JUST TELL ME YOU WANT TO BE HERE--- I WILL BE BUSY AND FORGET.

THIS WEEK BRING IDEAS...

June 3, 2011

cardboard stastics  ----
for anyone counting... today i used 12 pieces of cereal boxes  so far--- and that was just for the  3 indoor dogs--  i have not yet  tackled the deck

but i watched as i made the coffee and those 5 pups have to be the cleanest yet..  there may be 15 little piles randomly placed on the deck--- and as they chase each other with the drag the washrag game-- they did not step in one-- nor did the dragging rag go thru any.  it was amazing to watch.
such talent

i started the leash training yesterday- and will continue today - i don't know if i can exactly sequence it-- but  it is critical

with soft rope /ring i gave them a piece of freeze dried liver while i put the rope around their necks then back around their front legs  - keepingg them entertained so there was no backwards pulling til i had it around their legs too.  this means that any freaking out yanking- will distribute the pressure to their girth area  not just their neck --  they all do this---- as they almost have to do in order to give in to the rope--- but rather then a  i will drag you and go for a walk til you learn  -  i sit and use the rope to explain to them that they must go forward or back and give in to the pressure
when they do-- a piece of liver...

after about 3 minutes-- they are at least thinking-- and we go for a walk around the fireplace  -- whoa--- piece of liver as i remove the  rope and give them a little push away-

two or three more of those and  they are on their way..

i do the same thing i will later do with two tugs to indicate the direction we are going to go-- then relax the leash and  they should figure out ---walk up to my side and get the liver treat-- otherwise more tugging..

not yank-- just tug

yank--- is for when they weigh over 100 pounds and are not paying attention

5 laps around the fireplace and i was exercised for the day.
************************

the other training--- really an observagtion--- we took  didi  frankie-- barney  to the fairgrounds  to est the run loose bit---  we =  megan anne and i

since we have a huge container of the liver treats-- now was the time.

after a short walk around -- i let frankie loose  with a what the hell  attitude-- he ran-- i called-- maybe twice before he came to me for a treat- and i did not "catch " him- just let him  run--  eventually  i talked him into the ambu without a leash-- so he was listening-- ( and looking for the liver treats)
megan then did the same with barney-- and finally didi..

all did fine

this process should continue until we can yell and scream come here   and  they do.  reason being---- if they get loose in a bad situation no one can keep their voice to a sweet loving please come here
your voice would be in panic mode--- and a properly trained dog should ignore that panic...

later that afternoon i went back with fred who  is thinking of taking on frankie as a companion--- on a supervised  schedule-
he works at the audibon society in topsfield-- and i have suggested he take frankie and bring him to us when he has something else to do.
that will give us a chance to observe how frankie  is doing...
at the moment   frankie runs to fred very willingly-- as long as fred does not adopt any heavy domination-- frankie would love the company...

which brings up the topic of rhea--- we really need to have her wear jockey shorts ad see if she is still incontinent -- i have not seen any-

anyone want to take her home and see if they can tell-?

she is a bit wild as she has not had much-- or any training.  she is the one the vet in nh spayed twice--last time--- according to the path report....removing a kidney--- long story--  nice dog.....she is fido's sister.

megan is going to take out rhea once a day and see if we can get a conversation going with her... she is a nice dog/.

other than that......

hillary is on duty while megan is away getting her sister married.  Sunday Monday tues wed
how we became blessed with 2 extremely competent helpers i do not know  but i have full confidence in both of them.
it is like  being blessed with a lic plumber ( paul) and  lic electrician ( bud) as drivers for tom

and they replaced the solenoid in the white golf cart

solenoid is a big word around here
funny little lump of metal it seems it  is the reason a lot of things break.

June 1, 2011

yelling "uncle"  !!!

we now have enough grocery bags  for a moment-  it looks ike a lot  but we will run out  so keep them coming--- but don't collect them from your neighbors in the process.

buying them- they were $11 per 1000
now they are $15  (bless the oil crowd...)  and it is only sloppy management that i should ever have to buy them..
having a wandering finger as i check myself out of home depot often gets us a few extras too .

if i can now switch the effort to 3x5 cereal box cardboard..

cut is great-- i definitely need one STRAIGHT edge

or if you can't cut them... i have now left my ancient but honorable paper cutter in the tent so we can cut boxes while relaxing in the fresh air...

jackie is surviving very well doing megan's job

megan left l-o-n-g  lists
***********************
and xl can now get up on the couch by herself
*********************

henry came by yesterday with heydawg--  he is very sorry to report that christine's problems are progressing to the point of he can not cope.  he does not want to leave her alone even for a few minutes--

this concept of caring for the caregiver is a real thing-  but in his situation  he has no extra minutes for heydawg
he thought he would bring him back on sunday-- when fido can babysit heydawg for the transition-   he likes fido--

other than that...

i already sent mark's pictures  as usual fantastic.

i do have favorites
xl biting the rear of someone while rolling her eyes at the camera
and crimsom balancing the bubble

my $22 mosquito catcher is in there
$19 for the box fan and $3 for net and a few staples and a couple coat hangers.
you can see--- in 36 hours there  is a 1/3 cup of dead mosquitos in the battom

**********************************
either i am coming up in the world--- or the depression is worse than we  know.

in years gone by i could put THINGS out on the street with FREE signs and no one would take them.  it was a known fact- that by the time i threw it out, it had no earthly use.

yesterday i put out 2 file cabinets a wheelchair and a cabinet--- and by 5pm only the cabinet was left.

that has to be significant somehow..
**********************

today schedule-- no megan
2 days doing something so jacky is covering for her-

and since we threw out 3 pieces of furniture that contained  THINGS   there is considerable sorting to do.

the golf cart needs a solenoid-- every electrical thing that breaks here needs one of those--

paul and tom have a huge list of chores to do like that  today..

i will just be struggling to maintain the cleaning progress made over the weekend

it is very like beating back the forest to keep it from taking over---like cutting the grass so it does not turn to small trees.
