AVOID RT 1--- TEH TOPSFIELD FAIR IS ON-- ONCE IN THAT LINE YOU CAN BE STUCK FOR  HOURS... LITERALLY

SHOULD BE A NICE DAY SO TRAFFIC WILL BE EVEN WORSE .
SPEAKING OF NICE Day... we had a couple THIS WEEK...-- so the convertables are out- noticeABLLY-- EVERY YEAR THERE ARE AT LEAST 4 AND A HALF DAYS WHERE YOU CAN ENJOY HAVING NO ROOF OVER YOUR  HEAD--- I JUST CAN NOT IMAGINE WHY THOSE DAYS HOLD THE FASCINATION OF WIND IN YOUR HAIR.... SEEMS A FAN WOULD BE CHEAPER.

WE USED TO DO THE FAIR-- BACK WHEN  THEY NEEDED ANIMALS WHO WERE RELATIVELY BOMBPROOF-- AND WE HAD THEM...  WE WERE PAID  $1000 A DAY  AND OUR JOB WAS TO HAVE SOMETHING IN THE CATTLE RING- BECAUSE THERE WAS A SHORTAGE OF CATTLE  SO NO "SHOW"--   along with donkeys, sometimes a pig and often a mccaw running the fence screaming.... teh most popular was ---**THE BED**---  COUPLE DOGS ON IT TO BE PATTED AND A FEW UNDER IT RESTING-- ME LEANING ON IT LISTENING TO EVERYONE TELL ME HOW THEY HAD A DANE WHEN THEY WERE LITTLE.-- AS LIFE PROGRESSED I STOOD WHILE PEOPLE SEARCHED THEIR CELL PHONES FOR A PICTURE OF THE LAST DANE THEY HAD...  OR THE CURRENT CORGIE THEY HAVE NOW... THAT WAS PAINFULL  PHONE PHOTOS... PEOPLE DO LOVE THIER DOGS...  THEY WOOULD BRUSH OVER THEIR CHILDREN'S PHOTOS.. TO FIND TEH DOG PICTURE...

IT'S NOT ALOT DIFFERENT NOW... THERE IS NO WAY I WOULD THINK OF GOING INTO COSTCO WITHOUT A SHOPPING CART TO LEAN ON... BECAUSE WITH A DANE  SERVICE DOG, I  WILL BE STOPPED-- WHILE PEOPLE SEARCH THIER PHONE PHOTOS...
****
PERFECT DOG GEORGE WAS HERE FOR MAILCALL YESTERDAY-- HE IS THE HAPPIEST DOG LOVES HIS JOB AND TAKES IT VERY SERIOUSLY.
RACHAEL SAID THE SCHOOL IS TAKING HIM IN THEIR STRIDE-  RACHAEL SAID THE SCHOOL NURSE SENT HIM HOME ONE DAY BECAUSE HE THREW UP IN THE HALL -- THE JANITOR WAS HAPPY TO CLEAN IT UP  " HE'S JUST LIKE ANOTHER  KID"

THERE HAVE BEEN SOOOOO MANY STORIES ABOTU BELLQ  AND GEORGE -- I WONDER IF A SCHOOL STORY WOULD BE HELPFUL- TO SHOW EXACTLY HOW A SERVICE DOG SHOULD BEHAVE IN SCHOOL. SOMETIMES SCHOOLS HAVE WONDERED...IT WOULD BE A LESSON FOR THOSE IN DOUBT...
***
SHATTING SUNDAY WILL BE TEH NORMAL FIRST SUNDAY OF TEH MONTH-- IT WOULD BE POSSIBEL TO PUT IT OFF TIL DOGFEST, BUT IF WE DID , IT WOULD TAKE UP 2 OR 3 HOURS OF PEOPLE'S TIME TO WANDER AROUNF... SO I OPTED TO LEAVE IT WHERE IT IS.
***
JUDY AND I  SPENT A FEW MINUTES IN A VERY UNORGANIZED DEMO of  THE DECIBEL METER-- WITH TANNER RINGING THE BELL - AS A  STANDARDIZED NOISE-- SURE ENOUGH  BACK OFF TOWASRD THE G TENT AND THE VOLUME GOES WAY DOWN...  I WOULD LIKE TODAY TO GET A BETTER,. MORE ORGANIZED EFFORT AS A LEARNING SESSION..a really loud noise can be down to normal speaking level at 150 feet.-- the loudest bark on teh property is paula at 101 right behind my head. then  at 20--40--80--160 feet, it is normal  conversation .
***
chicken bricker web is down... apparently server problems   he is working on it....  you can always send checks to  us at sdp and we will get the numbers issued
****
looking forward to anohter outside day !!! getting reaqdy for an overflow crowd for dog fest---

i can telll you now--- those few people who have offered to come help get ready-- are going to  be assigned to the g-tent-- getting that cleaned up is a major problem at the moment..

clutter will accumulate to fill available space.

 the  fair is on
if you are coming here... i suggest you stay north on rt 95 and gt off at exit 53a  then down 97  the usual
this should get you around fair traffic
++++++++++
coming from  gloucester-- rt 133 thru ipswich  north on 1a    and take linebrook road at teh dunkin donuts cross rt 1 to our driveway
******
do not attempt route 1 in any direction

and i have that one day at a time ticket inder the gl;ass of my desk... use it and return it.
******************
PROBLEM OF THE DAY....CHINA
who wodda thunk.... that the current news woudl ahave anything to do with  donkey feedbags,  ... but ups tells me they are stuck in kentucky because of "government regulations"
they have been from china-- to korea-- to alaska-- to kentucky where they sit.... ups....
1ZYW90996795440876-- so when i finally got thru the 800 number.. apparently they are labeled pet treat bags.. so the usda is afraid they contain agri products... so they must inspect...
how long???  can take up to 60 days. which would take us just beyond christmas...
***
so lets go back to worrying about next years calendar--- no not 2019...   that is at the printer...   but 2020  we go thru this every year  --   we get brilliant ideas... which get forgotten and we are coming down to the wire....  the year will present us with real life situations which would make great calendar photos... if only we could remembeer them
already this morning   i had 2 and am now back to only 1 in my head.
*****
today  6:50 7:20-- dogs are barking---  looking for breakfast---
yesterday it was teh 5:59  massacre of 3 chickens  who "lost their heads" literally - probably to a raccoon-- lots of barking - and not a thing i could do about it.  some one called  6:00-- very aNGRY "I HAVE BEEN UP THE WHOLE  NIGHT BECAUSE OF YOUR DOGS" -- WELL I Hd been up from about 2 to a very quiet night until all hell broke loose at 5:59 ish...  when our dogs got blamed for someone's  whole night of insomnia...
****
lacking any cut and paste.... ( come no guys.....
***
how can i prove we are a farm???   we had a tree fall across teh driveway, and before 24 hours somebody ( actually 2 peopel) cut it up into 18 " lumps and landed it by the splitter...   a regular household woudl have called a tree guy for $500 to do that...   and then the insurance company would have paid $387 of that $500..   so i don't see why we don't  run that flag up the pole and see who salutes it.
***
speaking of that--- our 1/2 staff  flag debate is picking up  with studies of the droop factor as related to the 1/3  -- and thing s like that...
****
and so it goes

sept 28 2018
very disappointed in the f "lowered " flag instructions i have recieved... no two are alike-- which seems strange-- only common denominator seem.... not aT THE TOP  FROM LOWERED 3 FEET TO 1/2 THE POLE.
AND NO ONE DEFINED WHETHER TOP OF BOTTOM OF TEH FLAG IS TEH MEASURING POINT...  IS THERE NO OFFICIAL  ???
****
two weeks to dog fest-- yikes....
and anotehr 400 donkey feedbags are due  to arrive-- i hope people give them as christmas gifts....   i will be handing  one out to  everyone at dog fest.
they do hold laptop / charger and phone-- and are terriffic as long as you don't overload them with  %^&*$%
****
no specific excitement today that i know of.... company coming at 10:30 and i must wash the 3 bowling balls that are in my bathtub.
****
here is teh second dd i forgot to mail yesterday 9/27/2018- really  just another barking log....
************
GWEN WAS HERE OVERNIGHT - I WAS UP AT 4 WORKING-- ALL WAS QUIET ALL NIGHT PER BOTH OF US.

SHE CAME  FOR A CUPPA COFFEE ABOUT  5 AM-- PLACE WAS QUIET--  SHE WANTED TO GET THE 6:30 TRAIN FROM BEVERLY- SO ...

WITH DOGS QUIET... WE WENT OUT THE DOOR 5:43  THE "UPPER" DOGS BARKED WONDERING IF IT WAS BREAKFAST ALREADY..

NOW FOR MANY YEARS I WOULD NEVER HAVE LET IT WORRY ME it was "normal " barking  ,   BUT NOW, ALL I COULD THINK OF WAS  TO GET IN THE CAR QUICKLY SO THEY WOULD STOP BARKING WHICH MIGHT ANNOY THE NEIGHBORS... .  I RUSHED WITHOUT MY GOLF CART BECAUSE IT WAS QUICKER- AND TWISTED AN ANKLE ON A PEBBLE IN THE 1/2 DAWN LIGHT.  CURSED AT TEH BARKING DOGS AND WE  GOT IN MY CAR- IT WAS QUIET AGAIN.. I BACKED AROUND.. OPENING THE WINDOWS TO LISTEN- NOT A  BARK-STARTED DOWN T HE DRIVEWAY AND A 6" LIMB WAS ACROSS THE DRIVEWAY..

GWEN GOT OUT  TO DRAG IT-- DOGS BARKED- SHES STRUGGLED  WAS NOT  A LIMB BUT  WHOLE TREE..  BARKING DOGS ALL OVER TEH PLACE AND NEIGHBORS .   I  DROVE OVER IT  TO GET HER TO THE TRAIN... COME BACK AND DOGS ARE BARKING -- NOT REALIZING 2 OF THE STAff have already arrived  and tried to move the tree by hand.which would have -- barking...

i got the tractor-- startting all the barn dogs-- and go try and move the tree
spent 20 min trying to lift and break-- til finally i could snap it- and move it out of the way..
by now all are looking for breakfast making a racket.... and it is not quite 7am.
****
I AM THRILLED TO HEAR  2 OF THE PARTRIDGE BUNCH ARE  KEEPING A LOG

I WOULD SUGGEST THE ONE PERSON I GAVE MY $45  DECIBEL  METER TO  WRITE DOWN THE LEVEL OF BARKING--  AND ONE OTHER-- NOTING THE DAY OF THE WEEK MIGHT BE MORE HELPFUL IN FIGURING OUT WHAT AND WHY.
****
i have been awake since 2  and it has been quiet  all night   ---here we are 6:06 on friday and we have a generalized barking- i don't know why-- started in the barn---maybe someone  in the neighborhood was going to the airport.... llike me yesterday...
6:08 fading out..seems an odd thing for me to have to keep track of.  2 minutes  and quiet.
far more  important that i pay attention to the health and safety of our dogs.

worst part of dog shifting late afternoon is  we had a dog yesterday and had trouble trying to figure out if he had 1--2--3  or no  supper.. was he  fed in the barn before we brought him up to the kennel  before or after the nutt house was fed and before or after he got shifted to the deagle house's dinner???
****
there is an owl?    in puppy hill area at 6:19 to 6:21 ... OWL OR  large flying object...  WHAT BIRDS FLY AT NIGHT??? NOT TOO MANY...
***
I REMEMBER---  THE RUsSIAN BALLET-- WANTING SOMEONE TO TOSS A DOVE INTO THE SKY ( OR O MORE EXACTLY a whte pigeon to TEH CIELING OF THE  THEATER) -- SO THERE I  WAS-- WHITE PIGEON IN HAND-- TOSSING BRAVELY AT TEH FINALLE AND FIGURING " JUST HOW MANY PEOPLE CAN IT SHlt on before they op[en the doors tomorrow morning so teh bird can find it's way skyward-- and home.:"
those were the good old days....

HAD TO TAKE GWEN TO THE AIRPORT EARLY..  ONE HOUR 11 MINUTES WITH  GOOD TRAFFIC

IT IS ALWAYS A MENTAL EXERCISE TO RIDE WITH HER...

THE PROBLEMS WE TACKLED DURING THE RIDE..

WHAT EXACTLY IS HALF STAFF FLAG..
WHERE  AND HOW IS THE HALF STAF MEASURED...  BECAUSE IF YOU FOLLOW TEH DIRECTO S ONTHE INTERNET IT WOULD DRAG ON THE GROUJND

WHEN SOMEONE SAYS " I TELL THE TRUTH" YOU  HAVE LEARNED NOTHING  BECAUSE A PERSON WHO TELLS THE TRUTH WILL SAY THAT AND A LIAR WILL ALSO SAY "I TELL THE TRUTH.."

HOW DELIGATING A JOB BECOMES HAVING YOUR JOB BE DEPENDENT ON  SOMEONE ELSE'S PERFORMANCE.

HOW YOU CAN  NOT BOOK HOURLY MEETINGS TO START ON THE HOUR IN A PLACE LIKE MASS GENERAL WHEN IT TAKES 14 MINUTES TO GET BETWEEN MEETING ROOMS.

WE CONTINUED THE ARGUEMENT ABOUT  VACUUM CLEANERS-- WHICH APPARENTLY WAS ON TEH NURSERY ROOM CAMERA SOUND.... NOW UNPLUGGED..

starbuck may have good coffee, but they have terrible cups-- i am sure they made them this way to conserve materials  but ey are so thin_ you really need 2 for any coffee coming out of a keurig so you don't burn your fingers.

it is hard to write this dd when i am distracted-- well... you could substitute a bunch of words in place of distracted and still  be accurate...
today  explore has somethign going on... which i am to pass on to you - i have to retype it because the constant contact whch sends out this email every morning does not like  "links"  so cut and paste away...
first type in the h tt p s  with the : and then //  after that blog.explore.org/service-dog-panel-926/
i don't have a clue where that will take you but i am to do a bunch of other things to join the discussion with other people who's faces will be on the screen-- split screen--AT 4:00 EASTERN  TIME   i am sure i could  and will follow the directions-- explore knows i am tech challanged

MY LAPTOP- FAIRLY NEW  -- DELL-- NOT MAC-- WITH THE PROBLEM OF  BLUE AND ORANGE STRIPED SCREEN
I TOOK IT TO STAPLES WHO SAID THEY COULD NOT FIX IT BECAUSE IT AS NOT WORKING RIGHT... DDUUHHHH
NEXT COMPUTER PLACE- ONLY DID DATA RECOVERY-- BUT TOLD ME TO GO SEE FRANK-- "HE IS HONEST "   WHICH I THOUGHT WAS AN ODD COMMENT... BUT I WENT..
FRANK SAID HE COULD FIX IT BUT IT WOULD BE CHEAPER TO BUY ONES HE HAD ALREADY FIXED BECAUSE HE DIDN'T HAVE TO BILL  ME   "PRIME TIME"-  AS I   DIDDLED WITH THE REFERB ONE, A WOMAN CAME IN WITH A REPAIR JOB--- THEY TALKED.. SHE LEFT AND HE CMA BACK TO ME.-- WE GOT TALKING ABOUT PHONES... AND  I GOT OUT MY  IDIOT PROOF OLD FOLKS PHONE- - I SAW A BUBBLE ON  A TEXT FROM JANINE- SO I CLICKED ON IT...IT WAS SOMETHING ABOUT THE WHITE HOUSE AND GOING TO THE ADARONDACKS.
SO I SAID TO THE GUY  "SEE ... I AM SURE JANINE WAS NOT IN THE WHITE HOUSE OR THE ADDARONDACKS"

HE WAS SHOCKED TO TELL ME THAT WAS TEH CONVERSATION HE HAD JUST HAD WITH THE WOMAN WHO LEFT....
MY PHONE-- FROM THE BOTTOM OF MY DONKEY FEEDBAG HAD GATHERED THAT INFORAMATION HA  LORD KNOWS WHO IT HAD SENT THAT TOO..

BUT WHEN I GOT IN MY CAR-- THERE WAS TEH SAME MESSAGE WHILE THE AUDIO PLAYE THE AVE MARIA IN THE BACKGROUND.

NOW WHO IS INSANE????  OK... ME AND WHO ELSE....

HERE WILL BE A SECOND DD TODAY DISCUSSING THE BARKING-

sept 25 2018

we had a meeting with the neighbors-- to explain the various things we have changed - like using 5 of teh kennels for "daytime dogs"  ... i.e. the staff's dogs- of which we have a few.   we would certainly never ignore making changes  if we could improve  any negative situation..

it was quiet all night---  there is a dog barking now.. 6:25am  it is  not  a great dane bark...-  and ours have now joined 6.30.
thanks to this handy dandy decibel  meter,  no bark is 42 decibles  -- teh nieghborhood dog bark-- from a distance is   47  and when ours join  on our deck,  it is 52.  compare that to library quiet is 45 ---- normal conversation 60  --- annoying tv 80 --and health hazard 140
now at 6:39  they have all quit.--- the meter is back to 42---
6:51  donna arrived with her 2 dogs to put in the day kennels which has all teh dogs fired up  highest decibel is 55 with a bunch barking  to announce her arrival in the barn.
this is kind of a typical "episode".    and not enough  for me to call animal control when the  non dane dog started.
****
bryan-- ( DVM) is coming today about 1pm...   shots for the new one...  and while he is here... mo's foot has what i would call  scratches--  a mouldy athletes foot kind of mess behind her ankle..   and teh prego does have a minor cough... that should happen about 1pm.

i do not have a clue as to how this email  will actually work-- somehow explore is participating in some national dog somethgn by sponsoring  our ( 5 serv dog trainers)  chat.
Hi All,
It was lovely chatting with all of you over the last couple days. The chat on Wednesday is at 1pmPT/4pmET. I'm including the connection information for  the chat at the end of this email. Lets plan on being online 15 minutes before hand so everyone can have a chance to talk to each other before the chat. I'll be updating you about your live status on the text chat in Vmix Call.

to be included in the same program with what i consider the 'heavy rollers" is a thrill of a lifetime.

SEPT 24 2018

i vacuumed my room-- doesn't sound too exciting... except it was with the  17 pound  cordless  backpack -- i have good and bad news about it.. when I first put it on... there is an  adjustment to MY center of gravity  --- which made me wonder...... one might easily say  i  am 17 pounds more than i ought to be.... so teh xtra effort it took to vacuum the floor might explain teh tired factor..-- but the vac worked well and very fast... what did not work is the accessory which i thought would work so well in the barn...
the usual vacuum has a "head" perpendicular to the wand... this vac came with  a head in line with the handle-- which would be much  more efficient to use in the kennel..  problem is... that in line head does not connect to the wand in any way i can fathom.

i hate to write to a company and say  " how do you connect the 2 pieces?"   but htat is what i haD TO DO...   SKIP TRIED... STEVE TRIED .. IF IT DOES GO IN.. THERE MUST BE A REDUCER PIECE MISSING??? I AM AFRAID I AM GOING TO GET AN EMAIL BACK SAYING..." LOOK YOU DUMMY...."    STAY TUNED.
****
WE HAD ALOT OF VISITORS HERE YESTERDAY-- LOTSA NEW PEOPLE--- BEAUTIFUL DAY
AND A PERFECT DAY FOR THE TANNER TRIBE TO FINISH ALOT OF THE FENCING...
AS OF LAST NIGHT ... WE HAVE 4 MORE 200 FOOT RUNS UP AND DOWN THE STEEP HILL-- WHICH SHOHLD    ... WEAR THEM OUT BETTER... AND DEVELOPE THIER MUSCLES BETTER...

THE PUPPY HILL AREA HAS DONE A GOOD JOB ON THE DOGS KEPT THERE... BY USING THESE RUNS, WE MIGHT BE ABLE TO not use the pond for  free exercise  and KEEP THE GATES OPEN TO THE POND And "A" loop so we can  ocassionally drive around with both the tractor and golf carts to keep[ the forest from reclaiming the path.
***
now about monkey fists-- i should have asked you all sooner-- but i tire of hearing about  people selling monkey fist door stops for alot of money- and i have... i am sure... spent hours looking for the right size rock to put in the center of a big one...
enter ebay---  finally i got the idea of the smaller bowling balls-- a candlepin bowling  ball is 4.5 inches and just might be perfect for a  heavy door stop-- i may have to make it a 5 FINGERED ONE TO ACCOMODATE TEH SIZE OF THE  ROPE IN RELATION TO THE BALL...  I HAVE LOT OF 1/2  INCH ROPE...   THE 3/4 "  WOULD MAKE THE DOOR STOP TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE-- A CHEAPER WAY TO GO IS TO USE THE BROWN SISSLE ROPE..  I WILL EXPERIMEBNT

IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE 99 ZIP TIES FOR JANNA'S WEDDING... ( SO FAR)

FOR LACK OF ANY CUT AND PASTE--- HERE IS THE LATEST GRANT PROPOSl we wrote  if you find any typo's  ( i doubt it..... ann is darn good) do not tell us.

100% of our puppies will participate in the “Road Show” project as part of their service dog training. Of the 166 service dogs we have donated to date, 25 currently live in Essex, Middlesex, and Suffolk Counties.  *SummarySupport and expand our local “Road Show”, therapy visits with puppies, to bring smiles and laughter to more assisted living facilities. A win-win where the local communities benefit from the training we do anyway.  *LOI Need DescriptionLife in assisted living facilities can be bleak. We are literally received with open arms by residents and staff everywhere. Until our dogs graduate as fully certified service dogs at 12-18 months of age, their “job” is to bring smiles and laughter — while also being trained. They do that naturally, of course, the challenge is allocating staff time to organize the trips and trainer time to ensure everything goes smoothly. We have always done random visits but this spring two volunteers decided to take it to the next level. We are already working with 21 towns, averaging three visits a week, from Waltham to Beverly and Chelsea to Amesbury and everywhere in between, up to about a 45 min. drive from Ipswich.

We love the surprised reaction when we bring in two huge dogs, perfectly behaved and working the room like pros, along with a bunch of puppies in our new donated baby carriage (we could call it “Bill’s Buggy”?). It is a lively scene and everyone gets to pet the dogs and give them treats — neatly handed out in a purple frying pan.

Depending on the group we show either a short video or our new documentary and then answer questions. The entire visit lasts about an hour and a half, and has a residual effect of many weeks, so we are told. With advance notice, participation is much higher, as some residents need help to get around. We now see groups of about 50-60 whom we leave with a story to tell, plus new knowledge of service dogs and commercial free live  EXPLORE cameras featuring not only our dogs 24/7, but life in nature around the world.

Serving our local area is an important part of our mission — in fact please consider this an invitation to our famous “Sunday Stew” open house, where families and service dog recipients volunteer, mingle, and visit with the puppies. During the week we receive busloads of special education students with their teachers and many teens doing community service.

We engage daily and directly with thousands who read Carlene’s early morning blog, the “Daily Doggie”, and follow us via 7 live EXPLORE cameras. With “Barn Talk” at 3:15 pm, “Trainer Talk” at 4:45 pm and “mail call” at 5 pm we do our best to keep everybody engaged and informed. —Turns out the cameras are a life line for people who are isolated due to illness, geography, or because they are caregivers.  *LOI Plan for Grant Funds Our success, whether it is managing a bunch of puppies at an assisted living facility or helping 166 people (and counting) walk again with their donated service Dane comes down to having enough training hours available. Your previous grant enabled us to add a third full time trainer to our staff. This trainer is still with us and is very much needed. Also, one of our interns now works full time as a junior trainer.

Your grant will go towards payroll for training as well as additional administrative time. This would ensure that we continue to have enough training hours to produce perfect service Danes while also keeping our promise to bring smiles to local seniors with our “Road Show” of puppies in training.

I THINK THE CALENDAR IS 99% DONE...  AND JANNA- MONKEY FIST  WEDDING FAVORS  - I HAVE 96 -- SHE NEEDS 100--  I HAVE THE STRING, MARBLES AND KELLY CLAMP IN MY CAR SO I  CA  SIT AND LISTEN TO  AUDIO BOOKS IN HEATED AND A/C COMFORT-- WHILE MAKING THOSE.

IF I DID NOT HAVE AN UNENDING SUPPLY  OF  THOSE KELLY CLAMPS  I PROBABLY WOULD NEVER HAVE STARTED THIS PROJECT..-- THEY ARE SOOOOO USEFUL-- FROM EATING LOBSTER , CAESAR SALAD TO  HOLDING TINY NAILS-- TO CLIPPING PAPERS TOGETHER-- AND I HAVE FOUND THAT MANY ARE USED IN TEH EMERGENCY ROOM AND TOSSED RATHER THAN STERALIZING THEM-- SAME WITH TINY SCISSORS USED  TO CLIP STITCHES-- PERFECTLY GOOD-  I CARRY A MONKEY MAKING "KIT" IN MY DONKEY FEEDBAG-- LAST TIME I WAS INTHE ER, I MAde every nurse there a "zipper pull"  before i left.

those  stainless steel kelly clamps are on ebay   things like 10 for $17  and are  very handy... i don't see why a huge cklamp would not be ok for  people with hand tremmers--  i watched my father (parkinson's)  chase food around his plate--- but  that was before i knew about thwes wonderful things.

Hi Carlene,
Loved the "new" Barn Talk with Haley!
From what I can tell on the cameras, she is a valuable worker and Ambassador for SDP-  Mature, thoughtful, hard worker, super friendly, willing to do anything. She seems like a good one.
I look forward to seeing and hearing her on Barn Talk.
Thanks,

I DID SEND A BUNCH  TO A  DONKEY RESCUE IN GERMANY
HER REPORT ON THE HEAT IS .... FRIGHTENING????

Dear Carlene!
Shame! Shame on me! I beg your pardon (I never promised you a rosegarden… do you know the song? ;-)) but I haven’t told you how it was with the nosebags on the Donkey-Fests in Germany yet.
Now, it was hot. No, it was very hot. No, it was hot like death-valley. The sun burned 16 hours a day, no trees and not a single bush all over the place. And: no visitors! It was too hot to do anything, except drinking water. Very warm water, because there was no electricity to get it cool. It was awful. We had over 105°F, and at night it was over 86°F. No one needs this. So, what I did is: I gave 5 nosebags to the donkey-society of Luxembourg, 5 to Belgium and 5 to the Netherlands as a donation. We sold 5 (2 in Wesel and 3 in Forst). We sold each for 16.00 €, which is 18.79 USD. So we have 5 nosebags left. They will be sold on the meeting of the Noteselhilfe-members in October, I’m sure.
Dog Fest: you cannot imagine how much I will be there.
I would be present so with pleasure. (I don’t think that is the right translation, but I think you know what I mean.) But there is no way for me to do that. Sweet Tina sends my spirit stick to you, how nice is that?
Now I have to feed my donkeys, they are hungry and will starting to bray when they hear me while I’m in the kitchen.
God bless you all
Jutta Böckmann

THAnks to a mr bears donation... i/we  splurged and bought a back pack cordless vacuum cleaner recommended by holly.. she was around here for 8 hours doing a community service for  the place she works, and she observed we spend alot of time sweeping which she thought could lbe done better and quicker with  a back pack vac--
i will report on it soon... last night it spent  the night recharging  its battery. it behaved well-- the directions said it will flash green and then solid green when fully charged.. i am always amazed when the equipment follows what some  paper says it will do.
***
speaking of that  ----we did locate my laptop that has been missing for months- mostly because i wasn't looking for it.  battery dead-- plug in overnight- come out and turn it on and get only orange and blue stripes-- and teh curser has turned to a 1inch square..   staPLES HAD A $9.99  FIX YOUR PC  AD--  I DROVE THERE AND TEH GUY SAID "IF IT WON'T TURN ON , WE CAN'T FIX IT."
THAT WAS ONE OF "THOSE" MOMENTS.
AND IT GETS WORSE.
JANNA WAS HERE DELIVERING LEFT OVER FOOD FROM EBACO-- BIG COMPANY-- SO I ASKED IF THEY HAD  A COMPUTER FIXING DEPARTMENT- THeY DID SO I GAVE HER TH LAPTOP..  AN HOUR LAter she called to ask for teh password because they were looking at it  and it had opened normally with out  the  orange and blue stripes....
it isn't just me or.... linda tried to open it here too and  saw only  teh orange and blue.
so i have decided that dell computers have invested in teh tranquilizer pill market.
maybe my desk is like the bermuda triangle of technology.
***
i put this next in-- bless linda--- there is alot of "stuff" like this she just does .  she can read long things and figure them out.. if i have a long thing to read, i forget the first part before i get too far...   makes reading directions very difficult. which is why i was so pleased to have the new vacuum flash  the correct  green lights.
***
Good evening Linda,
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you once again for our conversation today Friday September 21, 2018.
As I explained to you today, I would like to donate money to SDP through United Way.  Could you please send me SDP’s
Information which I will then provide to my local United Way chapter?
Also thank you Carlene and staff for all you do for our Veterans and people with disabilities. I really enjoy watching the pups on
the camera as well reading the Daily Doggie.
Crazy Acres is truly a place where miracles are created.
Best regards,
Judy

overnight news from north carolina   ...5000 PIGS AND 25 MILLION CHICKENS have been drown by the flood waters - i am sorry for teh pigs and chickens... but-- that is now 5000 dead  pigs and 25 million dead chickens floating around north carolina--add dairy cows and alot of other  man made things like gas stations... if the towns get their drinking  water from lakes,  ... lakes are not usually up on top of any hill..  they are going to have a huge problem for a loooooong time..
Gwen????  do you have a well?? and if so do you have electricity to pump from it???
**
i can remember...... before  they put in the developement next door  there was no town water out  this far...-- we had a good well even if it did smell terrible... it was safe to drink... the animals didn't mind...  then we wopuld lose power and i would be back to a 55 gal drum in the back of my truck--- along with 5 gal pails in the bathroom for flushing purposes-- just like when the house burned down.
ah the simple things of life...
i heard some statistic about filtering water-- something about water that  has been filtered thru 25 feet of soil is  "clean"?  not sure i would take a chance on that one....
-- stuff usually floats or sinks in water... and a horse can drink out of a 1"deep puddle because it avoids  both floaing and sinking "stuff"--- dogs lap up whatever....
***
i watched someone towing a horse in a power boat....  only the horse head shows when swimming.. they towed it to some nhouse and got it up on the porch with a second horse--- i can not believe  that was a good solution if the 2 then went thru the floor and got all tangled upo in lumber...  but they didn't show any more...

I LOVE THE CLASSICAL MUSiC.
***
i have done considerable research on that topic-- we have a meeting with the town again on teh 24th... here in the office...

i have a bunch of writing to do to get the calendar out by dogfest...
thank heavens we have some cut and paste...

Good Morning:) I used the Explore cams in the classroom every day. When we were learning shapes, especially hexagons, I would put the bee hives cam on and they could see real life hexagons.
I LOVED the Explore cams for real life learning♥ During inside weather days Exploring Explore cams was what the kids wanted to do. :)

Carlene,
Dolly and I are doing great!

We are still working in the office doing the book keeping and secretarial duties at a large beef farm. People stopping into the office always joke about Dolly being a calf. Over the winter we had a calf born during a very cold spell,  so we had to bring her into the office. We had her penned off in one corner of the office. Dolly and I were responsible for bottle feeding her till she was doing well enough to go back out into the winter weather. Dolly was very interested in the calf, it took just a bit longer for the calf to warm up to Dolly. They were actually the same size, it was amazing. I have several photos of the two of them.

Just recently Dolly and I joined our local hospice agency, as volunteers. We are starting a new program called,The  Hand Legacy Program. Our local college Hobart and William Smith is doing a small Make A Wish Program that grants wishes on a small scale to our patients in hospice. We have had the opportunity to photograph a gentleman that's wish was to fish one last time. What a treasure it was to be able to capture that wish on camera for him and his family. Other shoots we do are in homes or in hospital or nursing home settings. Of course everyone loves Dolly and I believe it brings a sweet distraction for them, even if just for a short time.

Because of the work you guys do at SDP I am able to give back. This is possible because I now have Dolly!  Thank you so much for my wonderful gift, she is a true blessing. We hope to make you proud!

WHAT IS WITH THE MONKEY FIST BIT?????  MEGANS SISTER DECIDED A BIG  ONE WOULD HOLD TEH  TABLE NUMBERS FOR HER WEDDING SO I MADE 10 BIG ONES....   AND JANNA ( YOU KNOW... THE ONE WHO BRINGS US LEFT OVER CONFERENCE FOOD FROM HER WORK PLACE...  AND WHO'S MOTHER PULLS WEEDS FROM OUR GARDENS)  SHE WANTS 100  OF TEH 1" ONES  FOR FAvors at her wedding...  well i haD 79 IN PREP FOR DOG FEST----- LAST NIGH'S INSOMNIA CREATED.......8 MORE--- SO I AM WELL ON THE WAY TO 100-- THEY TAke between 5 and 10 min to make-- how did i learn??? goldie.... i dunno--  I JUST TRIED---  I DON'T THINK THERE IS A SCHOOL FOR MONKEY FIST MAKING  ---  except my father  had some expression i can not remember aBOUT MAKING SOMETHING OF VALUE FROM   MATERIALS THAT WERE RELATIVELY INEXPENSIVE...- HE WAS INVOLVED WITH INVENTING THINGS THAT INVOLVED LARGE CHUNCKS OF  STEEL.  HIS ADVICE WAS TO GET INTO SOMETHING LIIKKE FLY SWATTERS  WITH LOWER  FRIEGHT COSTS...
ONE NEVER KNOWS WHEN SOME ODD BIT OF "INCIDENTAL INTELLIGENCE"  CAN HAVE MONUMENTAL RESULTS-- LIKE TEH  SPLICING OF ROPE IN SOMEONE'S BARN WAS SO IMPRESSIVE THAT THE OWNER WROTE  A BIG CHECK WHICH GOT SDP GOING...

 I GOT THIS FROM LAURA....
Hi Carlene,
I meant to email you a little bit ago but about a week or two ago I was in art class (required by the school) and there were AWLS in the middle of the table and I knew exactly what it was, what it was used for and how to use it. We ended up using them later on in class. No one had ever heard of them and all I could think of was you. The teacher was impressed that I knew what it was never mind how to use it. I really do miss the farm, all the people and of course the dogs you are all family. I have been very busy with studying, I have to keep up a certain GPA for nursing which is stressful at times but I will be able to do it. I am enjoying school, it has been a pretty good experience so far. I hope all is well at the farm and hope I can visit soon!
Love,
Laura

I EXPECT GREAT THINGS FROM ALL THE KIDS INVOLVED HERE....  EXCELLENT GRADES AND  CREATIVE THINKING --- ALONG WITH  KEEN OBSERVATION, HARD WORK AND STAMINA....
ONE OF THE BIGGEST THINGS IN RUNNING SDP OR FARMING IN GENERAL IS BEING OBSERVANT--- AND DEPTH OF THOUGHT...  LIKE IF YOU FIND A BOLT LYING  IN THE DRIVEWAY- CERTAINLY A VALUABLE THING TO PICK UP -- BUT MORE IMPORTANT  WHAT PIECE OF EQUIPMENT IS ABOUT TO FALL APART FOR LACK OF THAT BOLT??
IS THAT PUDDLE IN THE DRIVEWAY JUST AIRCONDITIONING  CONDENSATION --- OR IS IT  OIL.... OR WORSE  AIRCONDITIONING FLUID (poisonous)

i love th picture of mo in harness in the tug of war wih the   16 kids it is on janine's facebook    -- janine not really paying attention ot mo-- and her co-hort standing in front with a bucket of grain... it is one of those things i would not do with a horse....-- chances are a mule would be more sensible ..  a biiiiiiig difference is a frightened horse will panic and run-- a  frightened donkey  will stand still and try and figure out what to do next...  this is alot easier to deal with...  mo takes after her donkey parent... and pulled very nicely 3 times.... the 4th she decided to back carefully.. and uncontrollably..  scattering the kids...  well done...

IT'S   THE 19th----  TAKE THOSE CAKES TO THE FIREDEPT DAY

WE HAVE
ACQUIRED ANOTHER AIRLINE TRAINED PERSON  WOOWOWOWOOWOOOOOOOO---
airline personell are wonderful---- they can put up with incredible confusion cheerfully- and keep driving toward teh   goal--- be that -- getting all these people out of this waiting room--- or getting them back on teh ground- well hydrated and  out of this bus.
we have a bunch of nurses too...   thier speciality is to return everrything to it's assigned place- refill empty things and try not to let anyone  get worse  on theri watch...
****
mara  renamed our sunshime patroll  "the road show"   which seems more in line...  bentley and sizzle are getting good at this... wander in to a senior hang out,  and quietly approach each person in order  then lie down and sleep while we show that 30 minute video.. tehn if teh frying pan appears, get up and wait for thier name to be called to go get the treat out of the fry  pan.  it does work well... AND EVERYONE THINKS THEY ARE SOOOOO WELL TRAINED-- SURE   THE CLINK OF A COOKIE WILL TRAIN MOST ANY DANE TO GO EAT IT.
*****
that fry pan came out of my donkey driving days- when we were santa's reindeer-- those were teh wild daYS OF  huge SANTA'S SMELLING LIKE ANNESETTE AND CAPABLE OF ONLY SMILING A HO HO HO -IN MONSTEROUS CROWDS.... - my lead team  was 30-40 feet in front of me, and my sidewalkers had to keep kids from getting pushed by the crowd  under teh carriage, while some SOB handed out candy canes----
donkeys and horses are addicted to pepermint---- NOW YOU TAKE SOME 5 YEAR OLD KID WITH SLOBBER AND CANDY CANE PEPERMINT ALL OVER THIER TINY FINGERS, YOU HAVE  A DISASTER IN THE MAKING... SO I TRIED DESPARATELY TO CONVINCE THE DONKS THAT PEPERMINT ONLY CAME IN FRYING PANS AND NEVER OFF LITTLE HANDS...  IT WORKED FOR ?10 YEARS OF MOB SCENES????
SO NOW... I TRY THE SAME THING ABOUT CARROTS-- ONLY FEED TEH DONKEYS OUT OF FRY PANS... NOT TO NECESSARILY PROTECT YOUR HANDS- BUT TO TEACH THE DONKS TO EXPECT TREAQTS ONLY OUT OF PANS--  THE ADDED COMPLICATION IS  NEVER   NEVER   NEVER FEED MY DONKEYS A CARROT BY LETTING THEM BITE IT OFF...  ADD THAT CONCEPT TO THE TINY HANDS-- SOMETIMES CARROT SIZE FINGERS.

FORTUNATELY ALL THE RESCUED DONKEYS HAVE ]NOT BEEN FED TREATS EVER ANYWAY- SO TO HAVE THEM  LEARN TO EXPECT A PAN - IS A WONDERFUL THING..
THAT IS WHY I CAN GET VERY UPSET AT THE VISITOR WHO SAYS "OH I KNOW HOW TO FEED A HORSE A CARROT-- ON A FLAT HAND"   AND I GET VERY AGITATED-- GO BERSERK MIGHT  BE MORE  ACCURATE.....  I DON'T WANT MY DONKEYS EATING OFF ANY SHAPE HAND-- WHILE THIS VISITOR TRYS TO EXPLAIN TO ME HOW TO FEED A HORSE A CARROT.. I FINALLY SAY ... JUST DON'T FEED  THEM.. AND THEY GO AWAY  VERY CONFUSED AND THINK I AM NUTS..

scooter karen carries her own pan...

SEPT 18 2018
400  MORE  DONKEY FEEDBAGS ARE DONE--( IN CHINA- READY TO MAIL)  SO WE WILL HAVE ENOUGH FOR DOGFEST--HEIGHT OF STUPIDITY, I FORGOT TO TAKE THEM TO JANINE'S DONKEY DERBY...  THEY ARE TERRIFFIC GENERIC CARRY ALLS-- MOST LAPTOPS PLUS WATER BOTTLES CELL  PHONES  EYEGLASSES AND  BATTERY CHARGERS FIT BEAUTIFULLY... THE STRAP IS LONG ENOUGH SO YOU CAN SWING THE BAG TO YOUR BACK  AS A SEMI BACK PACK...THEY CURE MANY AIRPORT PROBLEMS FOR .BOTH MEN AND WOMEN
SO THEY WILL BE GREAT  AND UNUSUAL CHRISTMAS GIFTS-- PLUS WE CAN REALLY USE ONE ON THE NEW  SKINNEY DONKEY AS IT'S ORIGIONAL PURPOSE AS A FEED BAG...-
I NEED TO WRITE UP  THIER DESCRIPTION.... LIKE... THEY ARE MADE OF PORUS MATERIAL IN CASE ONE GETS LEFT ON AN ANIMAL THAT GOES TO TAKE A DRINK... SO THEY DON'T DROWN.
THEY HAVE THE CUTE DONKEY LOGO I USED FOR ANIMAL EPISODES FOR YEARS STITCHED ON THEM.
WE WENT THRU THE FIRST 500 PRETTY WELL'--- HARDY AND HANDY

I USE MY FEEDBAG  TO CARRY MY TOYS-- LIKE TEH LASER MEASURING DEVICE WHICN IS ONE OF MY L;ATEST CDHALLANGES--  IT MEASURES FROM THE BACK OF IT TO WHEREVER YOU SHOOT THE LASER BEAM WITH GREAT ACCURACY   A TENTH OF AN INCH..( APPARENTLY)-- I AM JUST LEARNING ABOUT IT... BECAUSE TRUE TO MODERN TECH... SOME DAMN FOOL ENGINEER  DECIDED IT SHOUDL BE ABLE TO MEASURE THE HEIGHT OF SOMETHING LIKE A BUILDING FROM 30 FEET AWAY --AND TEH SQUARE FOOT OF THE BUILDING IN CASE YOU NEED TO BUY PAINT-- OR SOMETHING...
THE EFFICIENCY OF THE ITEM IS INVERSLY PROPORTIONAL TO THE NUMBER OF PROGRAMS IT IS ABLE TO DO.
98% OF TEH TIME I BET ITS' USE IS  A STRAIGHT LINE A TO B..  WHICH MEANS 2% OF THE TIME WHEN MY HAD/EYE CORDINATION IS NOT WHAT IT USED TO BE I GET THE SQUARE FOOTAGE OF THE BUILDING NESXT DOOR... IN CENTIMETERS TO MAKE IT WORSE.
I HAVE LONG OBJECTED TO  TEH I/O BUT HAVE GOT ALMOST USED TO IT... THIS ONE HAS A BUTTON  DIST  FOR ON AND A BUTTON    C/OFF    FOR OFF  ---TEH DIST BUTTON HAS TO BE HELD FOR 2 SECONDS TO TURN ON AND THE C/OFF MUST BE HELD FOR 4 TO TURN IT OFF.. OTHERWISE YOU END UP IN SOME OTHER VERY NICE BUT UNWANTED PROGRAM.

MY COMPUTER IS JUST LIKE THAT-- I CAN GOOGLE "MASS GOV LAWS"  AND HAVE IT LIST 47 PRODUCTS FOR SALE ON AMAZON . I LONG FOR THE DAYS WHEN MY COMPUTER WAS IN BLACK AND WHITE AND I COULD ASK IT TO DO ONLY WHAT I NEEDED..... MINUS TEH ADVERTISING.
WE CAN NOT ESCAPE THE ADVERTISING WORLD--(- EXCEPT ON EXPLORE CAMERAS )
***
LONG AGO--- WHEN I WORKED FOR THE WANT ADVERTISER- WE GOT INTO A SITUATION WHERE TEH WA WANTED TO RUN SOME BILLBOARDS-- AND I FOUND OUT  THEY ARE IN SHORT SUPPLY BECASUSE OF LADY BIRD JOHNSON???   WHO SUGGESTED NO NEW ONES BE ERECTED--- MAKING THE OLD ONES VERY EXPENSIVE TO RENT--THAT  ENCOURAGED RENTING OUT THE SIDES OF TRACTOR TRAILERS ---- A FEW INVENTIVE SOULS HAD TRAILERS WHICH WER PORTABLE BILLBORADS----THEN PEOPLE GOT INVENTIVE  BY ELECTRONICALLY FLIPPING THE ADS. TEHY COULD GET 4 TIMES THE RENT-  ALL THE WAY TO THIS COMPUTER WHERE ALL I HAVE TO DO IS TURN IT ON--- AND  IT HAS DECIDED INEED TO BUY  FLOOD INSURANCE.... JUST BECAUSE  LAST WEEK I TYPED IN "BLOOD TYPES"  WITH A TYPO-- SO NOW  I GET ADVERTISEMENTS ABOUT  FLOODS--- AND I LIVE ON A HILL..
WITH MY TYPING....  IT IS FRIGHTENING.
WE ARE WORKING TOWARD HAVING THE SHOPPING CART DECIDE  YOU SHOULD BUY ANCHOVY PASTE.

THIS PAYING IT FORWARD.... GOTTA LOVE IT... WE HELPED SHAWNNA TO BE ABLE TO WALK.. SO SHE WALKED A 5K EVENT AND MANAGED TO GET $2600  WORTH OF SOPNSERS TO DONATE TO SDP...

September 16, 2018
Well today was the day when Kringle and I walked our 5K on the new hip for the Service Dog Project.  It was a beautiful day to walk.  We have far exceeded my expectations with two Facebook accounts and checks that were sent to me.  Are you ready for it: 2675 DOLLARS!!!!!!!!  THANK YOU.  Kringle and I are so touched by everyone that helped us today.  My son volunteered for the event and my husband walked with me.  Brad even got a medal.  SDP changes lives by giving people back independence thru mobility.  Kringle has been a blessing to me so thank you so much for your kindness.  It was a great way to start a Sunday morning.
