~COUPLE THINGS---  THOSE WHO DO NOT STUDY HISTORY ARE DESTINED TO REPEAT.IT... AM I THE ONLY ONE THINKING ABOUT THE BRIGHT UNIFORMS OF TEH BRITISH ARMY AND HOW THEY WERE DEFEATED BY A RAG TAG.  BUNCH OF  YANKEE FARMERS JUMPING BEHIND TREES????-- AT LEAST THAT'S HOW I HEARD IT...  AFTER 20 YEARS... IS THAT NOT WHAT JUST HAPPENED???  SO THERER IS NO CONFUSION. --- I THINK "  GONE IS GREAT"  THERE WOULD BE NO WAY TO DO THAT  TO KEEP EVERYONE HAPPY.I ADMIRE OUR MILITARY  FOR PULLING OFF  THE MAGNATUDE OF THE OPERATION...

NOW AS FOR MY OPPOSING TEH CONCEPT OF PUPPY RAISING.. JUST SO THERE IS NO CONFUSION ON THIS EITHER. I AM OPPOSED TO THE CONCEPT PURELY FOR THE BENIFIT OF TEH PUPPY-- NUMBER 1--->1012... TEH EMOTIONAL PART OF BEING REMOVED FROM THEIR "HOME"  AT THE CONVENIENCE OF TEH TRAINING FACILITY...IS IGNORING TEH EMOTIONAL PART OF TEH RAISING OF TEH PUP.    ESPECIALLY WHEN YOU ARE ASKING THE PUP TO  BOND TO... AND GIVE EMOTIONAL SUPPORT THRU PTSD EPISODES---- TO A RECIPIENT......
IN MY OPINION. YOU WANT A SERVICE DOG TO BE A CAREFUL OBSERVANT  PARTNER. -- NOT  CONSTANTLY WISHING THEY WERE FREE OF RESTRAINT BY EITHER HAVING BEEN RESTRAINED IN A CRATE - OR PUT IN THAT "GENTLE LEADER" WHICH I AM SEEING FAR TOO OFTEN--  IT IS A SHORTCUT TO TRAINING - A CHEAPER SHORTCUT..  SOMEWHERE I HAVE A PHOTO OF A SEEING EYE GROUP FROM CANADA-- A DOZEN DOGS CROSSING A BUSY STREET -- TAILS UP, WAGGING...HAPPILY WORKING-- NOT ONE HAS ON A GENTLE LEADER.. COMPARED TO A LIKE  PHOTO  OF AN AMERICAN GROUP--  YELLOW LABS-- ALL DOING A DOWN STAY..EVERY ONE HAS ON THAT CHEATER STRAP OVER THEIR NOSE.  DON'T TELL ME DOGS DON'T MIND---  THEY FINALLY ACCEPT  IT BUT WATCH THEM AS SOMEONE PUTS IT ON -  THEY HATE IT.
OSHA WOULD NEVER ALLOW SUCH A THING TO HAPPEN IN THE HUMAN WORKING WORLD...

I REALIZE IN SOME SITUATIONS CRATES ARE NECESSARY-- LIKE TOO MANY DOGS IN ONE ROOM-- LIKE TEH VETS OFF ICE...  HOWEVER. WHAT I DO NOT APPROVE OF IS A CRATE IS SOMEWHERE TO LEAVE THE  PUP WHEN THE PUPPY RAI\SER HAS SOMETHING ELSE TO DO,  "WE'RE ABOUT TO HAVE DINNER AND I DON'T WANT THE PUPPY AT THE TABLE SO STICK HIM IN HIS CRATE" --- THAT IS REALITY IN PUPPY RAISING CIRCLES.

WE DO NOT EVEN OWN A CRATE ( EXCEPT FOR THE CHICKENS ON SHATUPON DAY)  WE CAN.. AND HAVE HAD.. 6. -  8. - 10. DOGS IN THE HOUSE AT MAIL CALL AND DINNER TIME--  WITH NO CRATES.  ---IT JUST REQUIRES MORE CONCENTRATION.

MY POINT BEING-- AT SDP WE ALLOW TH E PUP TO  GROW ----  SOCIALIZE. AND BECOME EDUCATED......, BUT SAVE THAT SPECIAL BONDING TO THEIR FUTURE PARTNER.

I DON'T OFTEN  MENTION IT, BUT MASS VETERNARIAN ASSOCIATION  GAVE ME AN AWARD FOR "IMPROVING THE HUMAN ANIMAL BOND..." -- I DO TRY....

WE WELCOME ANY TRAINERS   WHO WOULD LIKE TO COME SEE WHAT WE DO-- WE EVEN HAVE A GUEST CABIN TO STAY IN.  AND  AS I HAVE SAID... I LOVE TRAINING DISCUSSIONS....AND DO WELCOME NEW AND DIFFERNT IDEAS...  TRAINING NEEDS TO GET OUT OF IT'S CONVENIENT "BOX".
THAT IS ALWAYS EDUCATIONAL FOR EVERYBODY  TO CONSIDER DIFFERET WAYS TEH DOG THINKS OF ANY ONE TOPIC.
----
I RECIEVED SEVERA OF THESE TYPE EMAMILS

I am sure that other breeders and trainers think their way is best but I do agree with you. I just hope they all realize how beneficial your way is. Thank you for your quick reply and a big thank you for all you do!!!  LOVE watching the dogs and reading the DD

LETS DO A DISRUPTIVE THINKING DD.  WE GAVE A DOG TO A WOMAN AND AFTER THE USUAL TRAIING INTRODUCTION, I DID EXPLAIN IT WOUD LTAKE 6 MONTHS TO REALLY GET IN STEP...  SHE THOUGHT ABOUT THaT ( BRIGHT LADY) and decided she would take a daily walk in the quietest place she could think of... a lovely cemetary nearby-- she had an awful time-- dog was terribley distracting-- not even walking a straight line.  i suggested she go to the. local mall to practice... and bingo... dog was perfect---

so perfect tht she went back to work at mass general. which involved subways and traffic.. dog was fine...

hands up for those who've figured the reason....in teh human's mind-- the cemetry is literally dead quiet... .however to a dog... it is squirrel heaven... with thqt perception in mind... the mall or subway.   is very dull for a dog...

ok... so let's take some training concepts-- and think--- dog type thought.

some places put puppies with families-- good socialization and bacsic training.... all well and good.... pup graduates to the formal trqining facility. and finally another family.
now... i am sure.... only because i have een this sooooo. many heartbreaking time-- the poor pup is left wondering what happened to my real family. as the would be trainer slaps  on a gentle leader-- and the poor dog is left to serve someone to whom he has never bonded.--

i did that just once. the spotted dog that took jade across her graduation stage... with no basic training.... she had been raised by a family in lynnfield and i just happenee to witness the  moment when they finally met after a year-- it was so catastrophic that i gave teh dog back to the puppy raising family... you couol d not humanely peql that dog away from the family that she had loved, jade got anotehr dog.

this is why at serv dog... we don't allow any one person to handle teh same dog too often..
i do not want the dog to bond with the person then take it away... i do think thqt is cruel..

plus i bet it is why so many are having to use gentel leaders -- which dog hate...
"oh he does not mind?????"  he mav have resolved himself to having to wear the thing arcross shis nose.. but i hav not seen on e that like ti.

i have seen so many trainiers sticking dogs in crates--- it is easy--- and keeps your numbers up... but makes for a miserqable dog....

so i am a bout to get on a bandwagon to  have people stop and think about the  misery for  dogs caused by the puppy raising concept--- the y loved thier origional family and someone took them away...

it takes more time, planning and money to raise them as we do.. but out dogs are happy workers !!

i wish i had amy's quote... she gave our  explore .org info to a stranger in the hospital..  the next day thanked her for introducing her to     "the best web site on the interenet"ok so maybe 1000 of you can do that today?????

alternately... you can tell people to watch teh news. where you take your choice--- someone takng last shots at teh americans befor they close teh airport...  or.... catagorie 4...IDA. saying.  ,,"here comes mommy nature  again. "   moving in on the town that is below sea level to begin  with ---   interresting to see the cars lines up at 10 mph going north out ofIDA's way. -- and then there is the hospital situation...  they are not moving patients out of ida's way because the hospitals are all full so tehre is no where to move them... how reeaqssuring is that???not only are they ut of beds, they are out of refrigerated trucks......when do you suppose J.Q.Public will believe science--- ... would you believe, i know a poem about that ---
someone. on tv... ? army  core of engineers?? was proudly talking about how they rebuilt the levesy to withstand a cat 3 huricane while over his should er the weatherman was talking about ida... a #4.

this water inching higher and higher.... would you believe i know a  british. poem????? one done by stanley halloway.    similar to albertt and teh lion

I'll tell you an old-fashioned story
That grandfather used to relate,
Of a builder and joining contractor
Who's name it were Sam Oswaldthwaite.
In a shop on the banks of the Irwell
There Sam used to follow his trade,
In a place you'll have heard of called Bury
You know, where black puddings is made.
One day Sam were filling a knot hole
With putty when in through the door,
Came an old man fair reeked i'whiskers
An th'old man said good morning I'm Noah.
Sam asked Noah what were his business
And t'old chap went on to remark,
That not liking the look of the weather
He was thinking of building an ark.
He'd got all the wood for the bulwarks
And all t'other shipbuilding junk,
Now he wanted some nice birds-eye maple
To panel the sides of his bunk.
Now maple were Sams monopoly
That means it were all his to cut,
And nobody else hadn't got none
So he asked Noah three ha'pence a foot.
A ha'penny too much replied Noah
Penny a foots more the mark,
A penny a foot and when rain comes
I'll give you a ride in my ark.
But neither would budge in the bargain
The whole thing were kind of a jam,
So Sam put his tongue out at Noah
And Noah made long bacon at Sam.
In wrath and ill-feeling they parted
Not knowing when they'd meet again,
And Sam 'ad forgot all about it
'Til one day it started to rain.
It rained and it rained for a fortnight
It flooded the whole countryside,
It rained and it still kept on raining
'Til th'Irwell were fifty miles wide.
The houses were soon under water
And folks to the roof had to climb,
They said t'was the rottenest summer
As Bury had had for some time.
The rain showed no sign of abating
And water rose hour by hour,
'Til th'only dry land were at Blackpool
and that were on top of the tower.
So Sam started swimming for Blackpool
It took him best part of a week,
His clothes were wet through when he got there
And his boots were beginning to leak.
He stood to his watch-chain in water
On tower-top just before dark,
When who should come sailing towards him
But old Noah steering his ark.
They stared at each other in silence
'Til ark were alongside all but,
Then Noah said what price yon maple
Sam answered three ha'pence a foot.
Noah said nay I'll make thee an offer
Same as I did t'other day,
A penny a foot and a free ride
Now come on lad what do thee say.
Three ha'pence a foot came the answer
So Noah his sail had to hoist,
And sail off again in a dudgeon
While Sam stood determined but moist.
So Noah cruised around flying his pigeons
'Til fortieth day of the wet,
And on his way home passing Blackpool
He saw old Sam standing there yet.
His chin just stuck out of the water
A comical figure he cut,
Noah said now whats the price of yon maple
And Sam answered three ha'pence a foot.
Said Noah you'd best take my offer
It's the last time I'll be hereabouts,
And if water comes half an inch higher
I'll happen get maple for nowt.
Three ha'pence a foot it'll cost you
And as for me Sam says don't fret,
'Skys took a turn since this morning
I think it'll brighten up yet.

who writes that stuff now????
also. i got to wondering... is there any music of any sort in Afghanistan????

all i did was to goto home depot for some pressur washer fluid---
i sat down in one of those. handicap scooters... turned it on... and i was off and running ...

it was stuck in fast forward- i quickly dodged teh chech out line and got into the main aisles
i must admit i was enjoying the unusual ride-- it took a few minutes before teh staff realized what was going on'
then it was the replication of the scene in te movie AIRPLANE where. the out of control airplane was due at gate 14... no 15... now 16
as the announement was "manager requesterd in aisle 10".then "manager requested in aisle 11"
people began running along side of me making suggestions-- one of which was to get out in the parking lot til. i ran out of juice...
one brawny sort decided to stopme by grabbing the haqndlebars and standintt in front-- this made it tipp and made me nervous.. i quickly insisted nobody stand in front and let the battrey run out which is whatwe did-- but it was pretty funny... where is teh press when you could really use them .
it had a battere.y level light.. green full charge. yelloe half and red dead...  it was on yellow when i started my ride-- so it did nto take long.. but it was funny...many people got laugh out of that few minutes...

as i finally stepped out to safety, a woman said. "thank you for that laugh.... i really needed that". i said i was happy to oblige.-- and teh manager said. "thank heavens it was you"
so y ou see----i do have a reputation to presearve.
meanwhile the manager just wanted the whole thig to disappear because someone would find a way to. be inconveinienced by the wild ride...

it is an art now a days...  take any simple fact----the cAt was stuck in fast forward could make 2 headlines. 80 year old enjoys a spin around home depot- or home depot's maintaanience department at fault.

why am i drqgging this out?.. because it happens-- there are some people just lurking in the background just waiting to turn a perfectly simple fact into a negative , damaging , hateful rumor whch can cause untold collateral damage... how to keep an organization free of such lurkers i do not know.--from the democrate/republican professional lurkers to sdp---it is terrifying...

i hope to wash the walls of teh alleyway today-- there will be some who will accuse me of wasting time... money... wATER.. SOAP...-
WELL ... I HOPE TO ENJOY IT... IT WILL AT LEAST KEEP ME FROM EATING ICECREAM FOR A FEW HOURS.

THE SERIOUS POINT IS STILL MADE. I DO LOVE A GOOD ARGUEMENT---OVER COFFE.. NO HOLDS BARRED...STAND UP AND MAKE YOU R POINTS.. LOVE IT.
BUT FOR THE ONES SNEAKING ABOUT .. NAMELESLEY IN THE WILDS OF FACEBOOK-  DISTRIBUTING NEGATIVITY LIKE JOHNNY APPLESEED-- GET OVER IT

NO ONE EVER ACCUSE ME OF NOT ENJOYING A GOOD ARGUEMENT -- LIKE ANGELS ON THE HEAD OF A PIN.

IN THE BEGINNING....."  here's a story not told yet.... by dictation ..     :).

Most of you know my children and I were the company animal episodes where we provided animals for movies commercials television and anything anybody had in mind and basically I put them through college doing extremely weird things like chasing cockroaches up tables and some movie or another at any rate the time came but they were getting through with college and I was getting older and tired of getting up at 4:00 o'clock in the morning chasing chickens around Harvard square and I sort of fell into training dogs for service dogs------ in that process there were business E type things I had to do number one will figure out how to support myself and the project and two do things like file bylaws which Lu  Picard down in Connecticut told me just copy hers -------so I did -----I have no idea what they say but It.  kept the paper people happy

along about this time I had to have a board of directors which was supposed to be six people and I didn't know six people who could give me any advice on this stuff or at least advice I going to take but I did have to have these meetings s so Janine who was still in BU somehow------- she's always been able to come up with help for animal projects---- I could call her and say I need four people on the corner of Charles St at 6:00 o'clock tomorrow morning for $100 for the day and at 6:00 o'clock in the morning they would be.  half sleepy college kids who were really quite bright and capable and they'd be standing there leaning on some  pole....  and it had worked really very well for several years so I called on her to come up with the board of directors and I found that I could call together this board of directors if I promised them a square meal at the Ipswich Country Club and that's pretty much how I got my board of directors there ------- you just feed them------ the other thing you can do with really very intelligent um bunch of kids still in school if you can tell them that you will allow them to do their laundry which is another really big problem for kids in college and advanced college or whatever they call it masters programs doctors and things like that -------laundry is always a problem so somewhere along the line between feeding the meals and letting them do their laundry----- in the process I I had the advice of a bunch of very intelligent  22 year old people extremely cheaply------ that was a lesson well learned because it was one of those people who decided that the shatupon.  program that I was trying to raise money with needed re formatting--------- I was doing it with paper tickets which was absurd and I was so pleased when I made $1000 it was terrific but this kid came up with the idea with it wasn't just one kid it was the group sitting there that it could be programmed etc etc i knew programming and yes it could be programmed and it is so one of them put together what we now know as the *chicken program had been using it for years------- um and that that concept came out of noticing that PhD students or masters students or whatever they were there was a definite need with them of a food-- entertainment and laundry I don't know where you put that in some sophisticated Harvard Business School program but that's basically how that worked

Along about the time that I got the chicken shlt  program off the paper tickets and onto the Internet which to start with I thought was crazy but my advisory groups said that I was nuts so fortunately I listened to them somewhere along in there Charlie (of explore.org and annenberg foundatupn)  must have found out about us somehow and came up the driveway ------ I remember some man asking me if they could put cameras around the property---- I was very busy that day and I remember answering as long as it doesn't cost me anything and I went about my business and I didn't pay any more attention till the camera program except to notice they were doing a very good job climbing trees and putting posts in cement -------at any rate the minute the cameras got in then the Internet program with the chicken brick problem that it really took off and instead of earning $1000 a month we were up over 10,000 and very shortly very close to 20,000 every month month after month for about 10 years and counting more than 10 years now because those cameras went in in about September 1st of 2012 that makes it almost 10 years

our followers are extremely loyal thank heavens because that whole operation got underway with the concept of inclusion instead of exclusion ------my impression on. fundraisers are people getting all dressed up---- going out to dinner somewhere for $175 a plate while having the silent auction and everyone getting this slightly plastered -----I can't say if that was ever my lot in life -----but I wanted to be running an outfit which was inclusionary if that's a word I wanted to include everyone---- not work on excluding everyone anyone ----to that end I made our chicken bricks $10'cause a lot of people can afford $10 -------some can't then that's fine----   I certainly could understand it---- I've been there.      I remember in my career having a $40 charge at worthens market in Lynnfield.   ---- that I just could not manage to get paid off so I knew what it was like the struggle over $10 -----so for the people who could not afford the $10 I still wanted to keep them involved so I suggested that they take their morning cereal boxes and cut them three inches by 6 inches and then send them to us for poo pickers.  because that's what would fit in our back pockets and we'd be all prepared to keep the place clean and tidy------- so those people who couldn't afford the $10 a month I've been very good about cutting these poop pickers and sending them to us by the thousands which we use by the thousands and all those people if they themselves can't afford the $10 they seem to keep at each other when we come down to the final day of putting the chickens on the table oh nagging each other to go buy an extra brekker to so they get sold out and they have been sold out every month for the last seven or eight years and counting

sold out being the fact that there is a basic group of numbers 1 to 2100 that when they are sold out that constitutes our need for our payroll anything beyond that is more inclined to be the fund fund which is a savings account 4 items not necessary but interesting or fun and to have them go beyond that someone calls me the minute the 2100 gets sold out and I open the purple egg division of the shatupon society which is another bunch of numbers purple numbers where there's a separate award given for the winner of but purple division that winner is chosen by someone loftwing one minute boiled egg and tthe closest the yolk gets to the number determines the winner..

all this sort of evolved from the creative dinners I have had over the years with college kids wanting to do their laundry----- I also been very impressed with the concept of leaving yourself open to a different way of thinking because there are millions of people trotting along the normal highway ---------so if you don't want to trade with them which was not always successful ,     you better figure out something else and crazy acres has been something else -----and still remains something else..

We started with a very automatic need of trying to help people coming back from the war with horrendous injuries.. that mission statement got slid sideways into helping veterans or their families... because if we helped the family we were helping the veterans was the logic-----  but in that process we discovered that these dogs did an exceptional job with young children and we very quickly started to keep our eyes open for a kids dog---- hence the pairing of Bella with George back 2015 I don't know well there have been several since and I do believe Children's Hospital is now recommending people get in touch with us about a service dog.

defining a need and solving it also has to include the fact that the various nursing homes and adult centers in the country are in dire need of entertainment which we could provide without any fuss at all by just wandering around with our big dogs so we started doing that and trying to figure out how to get them hooked up to the explorer cameras so instead of watching a black television set they could watch pandas falling out of trees sounds like a minor thing to some but that would be a world changing idea to a bunch of people sitting in a circle having nothing to do for 8 hours a day there someone comes and picks them up again there's a big need there there's also a need for basically what I would call just fresh air our farm has become a place for people to go to get away from everything else many of these people start some job around here so they stay useful well they basically are hiding from the rest of society and who could blame them This is why on the property we have a few odd things but don't quite match what the world would expect most notably a very fancy chicken coop made by a Carpenter who measures things actually he was a furniture builder.

Nowhere along line have we ever had a five year plan which would solve or satisfy the needs of any financial accountant-------- heck I don't know what's going to happen the next day but because I don't have a 5 year plan,   I am available to  take advantage  of.  whatever fool idea comes along and is taking advantage of the many foolish ideas that come along which has been so far success  of crazy acres.

People who come here and volunteer are given refrigerator access to whatever we have whether it's dozens of free roaming chicken eggs or leftover chef meals------  there is a poem around here.

welcome guest be at your ease

happy to share with you such as we've got

the  leaks in the roof and the soup in the pot

So I'm very sorry if the business world just considers the shatupon society a stroke of genius to be magnified and copied it's a little bit more than that in that it has allowed to develop a group of people who just are not trodding the same highway as the rest of the world many of these people are caring for loved ones or incapacitated somehow by means of geography or finances they're not part of the mainstream but they are willing to support us for $10 a month----fortunately there are few that support us with more than $10 a month but I would think are average donation it was around $20.

but the whole group looks after us too in that just yesterday someone sent us lanyards with a plastic thing for holding your name tag for dogfest---  fuegen-- a camera person-- saw them realize they were nice that we might need to know about them so she bought some  and sent them to us --------that happens with most everything around here from cranberry relish the sneakers to tennis balls whatever if there's a need here and our camera people know about it I guarantee you within a few days we will have some in the mail which I open everyday at mail call and I open everything all the bills all the pluses all the minuses somebody has a nasty letter to write to us that gets read along with everything else there's a reality show at mail call 5 o'clock every day and that's what keeps our shatupon society going

 seek and ye shall find

Hello, Carlene - re drinking through a mask with a straw imbedded: I have a front-access instrumentalist's mask from the Broadway Relief Project ($27 online), which has a panel that covers a small opening for an instrument's mouthpiece - one could also use it for inserting a straw!
Joyce
Schenectady

since i believe all masks. have some percentage of protection.... if a straw hole means you will wear one, then i would say it is effective..
my second shot was may 5th. so i will be going for the third....  i belive very strongly in vaccines... between parvo for the dogs and polio for kids...  i would not dream of skipping either  one...  parvo 's main malady is diarrhea and vomiting... and i lived thru a litter of 8 pups-- in the kitchen with full blown parvo needing iv drips -- which is why there is a "hook" in the middle of the kitchen..... that was long before i had any help --- i did nothing but mop up  from 2 exits no waiting.  the second p[arvo blast.. was when i had help--- and kennels and thing s. ike that...     both times all lived.... as for polio... that was teh great medical fear of my childhood-- and teh rumors as towhat caused it were interesting..  running in the heqt of summer and drinking cold water ... was a big runor.. came from horses  drinking cold water i think...  so today i heqar "they" are trying ivermection to cure cov19????  well a least none of them will have worms...
---
our 2 new  --ohio---pups are darn cute.... watching their personalities develope will be interesting.--- i bet lynn slept for 16 hours when she got home... between the pups and the rainstorm... it was a tough drive from ohio....  i have yet to study the pedigrees in great detail...
the timing is perfect-- as we move the other pups from  house to bqrn -- kennel 10.  we have room in the ?sunroom. and kitchen for the or=ther.  pups needing individual attention  ( anna and ohio)   soon to schlep these to the barn to ake room for czech  2. we move along.- constantly improting 2 from europe is not the mowt expensive idea... having a litter here... on. sunday ... caezarian  which produced 2 pups. i think broke the record...  a sunday section in woburn( 24 hour emergency hosp)   is about $7000---- we have no females yet to breed... so keep looking at the kennels in europe.... and let me know.   best kennels are german... only because frankfurt is an 8 hour direct flight to boston... so when you look at pups.. also look at airlines schedules...  and if there is a petair  company in the vicinity.
------
my phone--- that new phone i am determined to get the best of... is already gone.. it did not come with any way to charge teh battery ( without purchase of another gizzmo) so judy took it from me   to plug  it in.....-- and i don't know where it. is...last time this happened someone  took the brand new phone, started entering stuff, includiong  q password.. which they then  forgot--
----
i am workin g my way thru the list of monkey fists linda tells me i must produce....  the last bunch of rubber balls are workin g fine....55 mm--
the smaller ones 50mm  dog toys  will finish up my smaller rope.. and hopefully you all buy some at dog fest...
--
 requests..

1... keep getting people to watch all teh explore camerrs
2.....keep buying chicken bricks
3.....and i forgot the third

but there was  one...

HATING TECHNOLOGY,, WHILE not knowing how seriously to take the storm henri..... i did think i should replace my cell- GO BUY A PHONE.  how hard can that be???? let me count the ways

costco?  an i phone like judy's. $569- FOR SOME REASON THEY COULD NOT SELL ME ONE- AND SAID I SHOULD GO TO APPLE STORE (8 MILES)
APPLE. DID NOT HAVE JUDY'S BUT FOR $100 MORE... THE UPGRADE WHATEVER...  BUT THEY COULD NOT "HOOK IT UP"-----  GO TO VERIZON ( 8 MILES)
VERIZON #1 SIGN ON DOOR SUNDAY HOURS 11-6. ,,,, IT WAS 11:45.... DOOR LOCKED
VERIZON #2  SAT FOR 14 MINUTES WHILE A YOUNG MAN WITH EXTREMELY UNTIDY LONG HAIR TRIED TO FIX A PHONE FOR THE MAN IN FRONT OF ME, AND ALL HE COULD MAKE IT DO WAS PUT THE TIME UP  ON A HUGE WALL SCREEN WHILE HE POKED VICIOUSLY AT THE PHONE. I OPTED TO GO HOME WHERE JUDY HAD LOCATED ANOTHRE VERIZON STORE... 8 MILES.........
VERIZON #3 WHERE A YOUNG "KID" POKED AT MY PHONE WHILE FUMING ABOUT  MY NOT KNOWING THE PASSWORD---?? FOR MY OLD PHONE WHICH WAS  1. LOST--- OR LOCATION  UNKNOWN...2 BROKEN FACE. 3. BATTERY NEVER MORE THAN 23%THEN..... WORST OF ALL-4.. SOMEONE OWNED THAT PHONE BEFORE ME SO IT NEVER SAID CARLENE WAS CALLING BUT FRANCHESCA SOMEBODY...

HE DID GET IT HOOKED UP TO VERIZON-- WITH NO NAME ON THE CALLER ID...--- I CAN AT LEAST MAKE PHONE CALLS AND GET AND SEND TEXTS-- AND HANDED ME A PAPER SAYING CASUALLY  I HAD TO SIGN ON THE LINE AS HE FLIPPED TO THE BACK OF IT... I FLIPPED IT TO THE FRONT AND HE HAD ME SIGNED UP FOR AL SORTS OF THINGS ... LIKE $80 WORTH OF TEXTS A MONTH.. HE REPEATED YOU HAVE TO SIGN BEFORE YOU LEAVE-- AT WHICH POINT I SAID " I DON'T SIGN NOTHING" AND --- ENJOYING THE DOUBLE NEGATIVE.... I LEFT----LEAVING HIM WITH A LIST OF MY PASSWORDS, SS# AND INFO NEEDED TO START A VERIZON ACCOUNT...

AND ALL THAT HAPPENED BECAUSE when  I WENT TO BUY MY USUAL. EMERGENCY  BBQ CHICKEN ,  i  FOUND OUT.... SURE ENOUGH... THE STORE WAAS OUT OF TOILET PAPER.! HENRI MUST Have significant expctations to empty the tilet paper aisle...----------so i figured i betterr REMIND JANINE TO FILL HER GAS TANK BECAUSE IF WE LOOSE POWER THEY CAN'T PUMP GAS. AND WITH 2 BARNS FULL OF HORSES SHE WOULD DRIVE HERSELF NUTS BIKING BETWEEN THEM FOR 2 WEEKS WHILE MEN SAWED UP TREES....

interesting how people have different priorities...  bud checked our chain saws and tractor tanks... even tho i swore years ago i would never pull another rope to start a gas engine...... i might have to.... but i sure will use the battery run sabre saw first !!
-------
i had several emails agreeing that  teh friday night meeting before dog fest was a bad idea unless people learned to drink thru a mask with a straw imbedded... and i have not seen such a thing yet...
a wild  meet and greet saturday morning breakfast is a much better idea--and we shouLd "open" at 7am..to do that..

we could do saturday. 7am....  that would make more sense to me.....

Dear Carlene and Linda,

I just wanted to email and tell you both how much I appreciate your organizing DogFest so that it is as safe as possible during this crazy Covid time.  I  was concerned about the inside group meet and greet and I wasn’t sure that I would go to that part, even though I’m vaccinated.  I think it was the responsible thing to cancel that reservation for Friday night. I’m so looking forward to being outside at the farm and seeing you both!  Lord knows we need a celebration - even a socially distanced one!

With all my best wishes and thanks,
Beth / Biobc

how did we ever manager with
"red sky at night is a sailors delight
red sky in morning sailor take warning".

here we know henri is on the way.. and the sky is a generic blue. how am i  to know wht to do????
welcome henri......  ok..... fill your gas tanks..  because when we loose electricity... we might not pump gas til we get it back again... and i heard the words " electrical return might be weeks.."     ustabee. when we lost power we lost water because swe had a well... that was trouble...  now we have town water-- and instant on generators ( 2 of the. barn and house) .  so i am feeling very smug...i am all prepared for the normal emergencies--- flashlight, pre cooked baked chicken and mini  icecreams.........? prep????    that i s when something else happens... -- wsomething like one of these monster trees acrss th e driveway ---ok volunteers.... remember we now have 2 driveways..... these trees have to be 100 years old... lets hope they last a few more years????
i also remember a friend runninbg to his elderly   mothers house because she often lost electricity/ and water... -purpose of the trip was to fill up many 5 gallon buckets with water and fill. the bathroom with them-- so she could flush.... flushing being a siphoning  proceedure, not electrical...

luckily i don't think i need a bunch of buckets ful of water-- but there was a time i sure did !!

i just maytbe ought to get out  my irish kettle. -- the camping kettle which allows you to make a cuppa coffee by burnign one piece of newspaper...
------
my big push is to get the hotsy spray cleaner operational-- it is a hugely poowerful spray cleaner--- can take the paint right off yoru car, if you shold want teh paint off your car....
they are picking  i t up this week... with hopes....i really want to clean up the alley of the  barn befor dog fest.  then mavbe a "fester" couold put a coat of polyeurothane on it.

we have alot of jobes for festers.....  gate painting is another... it is such a relief to be able to say "we need the pink gate shut" and volunteers know what ia am talking about;
finally we are at the stage of being able to back drag teh  areas outside teh stalls. with the tractor... so that the water off the arena roof....runs  downhill.... across teh donkey cafe and uicu dog kennels and off into teh state forest.

with the help of some cp's ... i do have one 55mm ball fir teh new rope-- so it occurs to me.... betsy has a very nice gift store in the center of town ( center? right next to th e town pub) --last  year i made monkey fist for her with a thread and a bead-- so she could make tiny earrings and jewelery... it occurs to me she might advertise that jewery better if she did a window display??? betsy???
----
 dog fest......
deciding to have DOGFEST 2021.   was based largely on  the fact that WE COULD HAVE IT 100% outdoors.....
Due to the rapid rise of the Delta variant SDP  believes it would be in the best interest of those attending Dog Fest’s outdoor activities not to have a large number of people gather together indoors ..... in  one room the Friday night before. Therefore one of the steps SDP has taken to help ensure our visitors are Covid safe is to cancel the Doubletree Hotel Living Room reservation. FOR ANYONE  WANTING TO ATTENT A MEETING ON FRIDAY NIGHT -- I HIGHLY SUGGEST  YOU MEET IN THE PARKING LOT ON THE NORTH SIDE OF THE HOTEL . lotsa space there.......    WE ARE DOING ALL RIGHT SO FAR--- THE ONLY ONE WE  HAVE LOST  SO FAR  IS OUR "  SANTA"

We look forward to seeing everyone at Crazy Acres and wish you a safe enjoyable time while you are visiting the area.

oh my....... have we gone back to 2012.?????   PPPPLLLLEEEAAASSSEEEEEEEEEEEE.  call me if teh barn is on fire--- or taxi has a foot stuck in a hay bag....but  i need my sleep more than ever  -- so to call me at 1:30 am to say that taxi had chased the donkeys out of the barn is as bad as teh day someone called me at 2am to tell me there were birds in the barn...i highly suggest you all talk it over before calling me ( or janine)  because for taxi to chase teh donkeys out is no emeergency-- especially by teh time i get up and check, the donkeys. have snuck back in the other door.... and were later photo'd all lying down together...  i know whoever  meqnt well... but i have spent 10 years training this community  as to what is a n emergency worth a phone call..  so talk it over in t eh group-- and while you are talking... take into considerqtion  east coast time.....

that episode was not worth a night's sleep... because i was awake from 1:30 on---whiich will make today more of an already challange.

as a matter of fact  i just nodded off with my head on this desk...
i will try  a DD. again tomorrow..

the problem with danes..... is teh general public's conception of "those huge monsters".
danes have now and always have had an uphill battle in the service dog   world.... and they do such a good job....as i mentioned last night on. mail call.......
100 years ago--- when i wqs just startting to get involved with service dogs-- and trying hard to do thigs right...( would you believe it?)..one of the first things i ran into was... you ought to have your dogs temperament tested...  so i lined up  with my check for $25 for each stud dog... deagle and thumper....-- and i put each one thru the "course " of umbrellas, gunshots, funny grqtes to walk over...people jumping at them-- i thought we did very well -- they didn't offer to bite anyone !!  a week later we got our results... both were considered high risk for  biting  and it was recommended we not breed them because of problems with temperament. for new commer.s. ... both deagl and thumper proved to be extremely reliable performers in any situation i put them... which at that point included movies and print ads...both very level headed  super dogs... teh calendar picture with the baby chickens is thumper...

that $50 paid for my  education --- if you want an expert opinion,  the first problem is to find a bone fied  expert- which very often is not one that says he is and secondly .. how close is his opinion tied to his income?

that is if the vet will take him on as a patient..-- when george began to retire, i reqalized i needed to be firmly attached to some vet practice-- and wandered around interviewing practices..  i found 3 vets who would only take a dane in th e office if they were muzzled. .....  and a couple others ( like petco's vet hospital connected to the store) wanted no part of 50 great dane dogs as clients at all....

true stories.  ---- one of our newly gradated service dogs wqs taken to their vet as an "introduction  to your local vet"
' -- which we recommend..... and the recippient- who ws new qt the partnerrship... belived teh vet tech who toold him they muzzle all big dogs.... so he let them put a muzz,e on one of our carefully educated dogs....  which immediately became a 175 pound flying object- knocking over people, chairs, desks... etc- from teh incident i recieved a very nast y lettr about how this was not a serfice dog, and i had no right  to impose this dog on the community as he was very dangerous.  i suggested he take the dog to another vet where he behaved perfectly-- and has ever since....

i gave a pup to another training facility with the hopes of introducing them to trianing danes..   nice pup-- i was sure of that before i sent him... a few months later i got an email, the dog ws impossible to train- an they feared he woudl be a danger to the public if turned  into service..  so i said "bring him back". which they did.. and included his  medical record-- that showed they had him on  3 different tranquilzers poor dog didn't know if he was on foot or horseback...  took a month to dry him out-- after which he ws placed as s wonderful service dog with an elderly woman with ms....doing a perfect job...... sober....

2 or 3 more pups i gave to other training faciliaties... not one was put in training... but just tossed away "to good homes". mostly because they would not retrieve.   well... they don't...  but most balqnce pqtients don't need that ....so don't waste you time on training that....

so we need to figure out a way to introduce more danes to the service world--- having george be  chosen #1 service dog has helped- but ther e is a huge need for trainig danes.
-- so that is todays spheil.

fact in the news that  i believe....
there is a shortage of veterinarians because of all the animals rescued during the covid bit.

Hello Service Dog Project!
Sharing an update on Service Dog Team- Oz & John!
Oz and John left on July 16 to go to their new home. They traveled from Massachusetts to Maryland for the first days, staying with Aunt Barbara. Oz did extremely well on this journey! They traveled in a conversion van which allowed for Oz to be able to walk inside if he desired and also the ability for him to and rest on a luxurious bed. Aunt Barbara prepared an amazing welcome to honor John and Oz’s arrival into her home (Aka emerald city). We captured this on video and do hope that someone shared the @servicedogOz instagram post with you al!. Aunt Barbara is an avid SDP supporter and fan! She loves all dogs, and PARTICULARLY enjoys the doggie daily!
The next leg of the journey was to South Carolina to G-Ma Sandi’s house. Again, Oz tolerated the travel and new location without difficulty.
John and Oz arrived in Ormond Beach FL on July 20. Since that time, they both have acclimated to their new home and town. Oz loves the big field in back of the house, and the dog park close to his home. He really loves to run and romp and zoom in the big field in the mornings before his work day. Oz and John work together daily, and have a very strong bond. Oz seems to anticipate John’s needs even more quickly than John does.
Its remarkable how tolerant Oz has been of traveling, new environments, and new people— all of course while maintaining focus on his job/person, John!

Thank you Service Dog Project!
Tanya

Hi Carlene,

This has been quite the upheaval year with COVID coming and going and coming back again, it seems like a never-ending story.

I have some great news to share with you. After visiting Service Dog Project to complete my research paper two years ago on Great Dane Service Dogs and Breeding Standards, the school has listed my research as part of the school genetics and research department reference.

This May, I have graduated with a Bachelor of Science Degree from Bergin University of Canine Studies in Penngrove California and I have also passed my National exam from the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers and am becoming a Certified Canine Behavior Consultant from the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants. I am starting my Great Dane Service Dog Integrative wellness agency in October when I will obtain my first breeding dog to train as a Service Dog.

I thought you would be pleased to know that my visit with you was inspirational and as a long-time breeder of AKC Great Dane Show Dogs, I knew I wanted to do more with the breed. I appreciate your hospitality to me at Crazy Acres as well as all the work you continue to do with Great Danes. Please know that in the years to come, Great Danes will continue helping more people in the capacity of Service Dogs on the West Coast.

Thank you,
Dan
