SECOND SHOT DAY... WITHOUT JANINE TO PUSH... I WILL GET THERE SOME HOW... MAYBE A SERVICEE DOG? APPARENTLY SECOND SHOT IS QUICK. ----- AFTER MAIL CALL , I DID GET SEVERAL ARTICLES ABOUT OIL/KEROSCENE AND FIREPLACES... AND ... IF ANYONE OUT THERE KNOWS DIFFERENTLY, PLEASE SHARE IT... HISTORICALLY THER WAS A LUMP OF SOMETHIGN IN A IRON POT NEXT TO THE FIREPLACE -- SOAKED IN "LAMP OIL " WHICH THEY STILL SELL....AND USED TO START FIRES .. WHICH HAS BEEN USED FOR YEARS.. THEY ALSO SELL TABLETOP "FIRES " TO GO WITH THAT LAMP OIL.... I THINK THAT LAMP OIL IS BASICALLY A VERY REFINED KEROSCENE I HAVE BEEN THAT ROAD.. AND DID NOT LIKE THE TIPPING OVER ELEMENT.. SO \I HAVE HAD AN OIL CAN NEXT TOTHE FIREPLACE AND WOULD JUST POUR MAYBE 1/8 CUP INTO A PAPER CUP AD THEN ONTO THE LOGS TO START A FIRE.... WHICH WORKS FINE IF YOU ARE STARTING A FIRE AND THERE ARE NO BITS OF OLD FIRE SPARKS...STILL. IN THE FIREPLACE. 2021 3 5 The super critical element here is that you must never ever ever confused gasoline and oil .. gasoline explodes even the fumes of gasoline explode ---you shouldn't even have it in the house .OR NEAR A BUILDING.... I TRY AND HAVE MINIMAL PARKING NEAR THE BARN OR ANY OTHER BUILDING/. BECAUSE CARS HAVE GAS...... however oil will burn very quietly as long as you don't spray it .. if you spray it and increase the surface area of the little globules of oil it tOO will explode .. and that's what a diesel engine does it sprays the diesel oil which thEN explodes makesTRACTOR MOVE. .. a variation of that spraying would be to take a tiny little Cup paper Cup of oil and just toss it into the fire and that would be dangerous because at some point you will have a tiny little globule with a whole bunch of surface area it'll come in contact with a piece of fire and then it'll explode like the gasoline... SO......As I age and my hand becomes a little shakier , the pOUR. become bbecomes a little less organized and I can see the writing on the wall .. because if you do cause it to go pop==== even with a little pop .. it will jerk your hAND. backwards thus pouring oil out of the fireplace onto the floor this would not be a good thing . so I wanted a way to distribute a very small quantity of oil way back in the fireplace without pouring it .. which is why I remembered this huge dose syringe that we used to use to give fluids to a horse a----Actually INTO. either end----because if I have oil in that I have a good 14. inches oF stainless steel to keep me away from the puddle .. Granted this is an off label use of a dose syringe -- but it might work .. I will have someone standing by with the fire extinguisher when I use it the first time .. but seeing as my basic supply of oil will not have any air mixed with it it should burn quietly . AnnD should be a lot safer then the coffee Cup method .. I thank you for your concerns and certainly if anybody knows any different by all means speak up . basically My fire building is really just one small piece of Cardboard 6 by 6 type with a little bit of oil on it .. and then I have 12 inch long matches which I slide ONTO.. the Cardboard .. The business of pouring it out of the oil can it's got to be. ELIMINATED... . making this process much SAFER THAN the old Yankee way of the smudge pot/ LAMP OIL was it called ??? LAMP OIL IS NOT AS SCARY AS KEROSCENE... BUT I HINK THAT IS WHAT IT IS... I THINK THE biggest difference is that lamp oil comes in a tin can at about $10 a gallon and THE DIESEL WHICH IS very similar to KEROSCENE AND LAMP OIL.....you refill into your YELLOW. plastic container at $2.69 gallon AT THE GAS STATION. THERE IS AN FYI HERE..... CONTAINERS FOR THESE FLAMABLES ARE ORGANIZED..... RED IS GAS... BLUE IS KEROSCENE... AND YELLOW IS DIESEL-AND YOU MUST NEVER EVER MIX THEM UP. WELLLLL..... BUD AND I HAVE ARGUED LONG ABOUT THE FACT THAT WE HAVE OVER 700 GALLONS OF KEROSCENE IN THE TANKS IN THE ARENA, GUEST HOUSE, LAUNDRY BUILDING AND HOUSE.. Because we used to use kerosene to heat these buildings .. we switched to these new electric mitsubishis .. which left us with a lot of kerosene in these tanks .. if kerosene is a more pure version of diesel---- (that may or may not be true that's just what I think ..)--- then why can't I use the kerosene in the tractorS .. but Bud argues there is a slight difference .. or some additive at any rate we have 4 yellow containers which he dutifully fills with diesel regularly . and our supply of kerosene just sits . I think there's actually a sign somewhere that says it's illegal to pump gas or oil into the wrong color container .. that's like saying it's illegal to be stupid --well I should be more kind ---it does serve as a reminder for those of us who have a memory problem .. I must confess I read the label on the yellow containers to be sure I've got it right .. the big one to fear is the red and I know that's gas ...I have been known to confuse the other two .. if I do confuse the other two and pour kerosene into the tractor and it comes up some little valve or another STUCK..... I know very well I must not call Bud .. because he's told me not to do that . I am due to get my second shot at the hotel where we often train dogs .. and the parking lot is a pretty long way from the door .. so even with my transfer chair .. it may present a problem which could easily be solved by asking one of the trainers to have one of the dogs in a car behind me like in push me to the door .. Mand after that I should be fine .. because you probably have to sit around for 20 minutes to be sure you don't keel over or whatever .. Daisy and Josh had a dry run in school yesterday .. where he did everything he would have to do today when the rest of the kids arrive .. I just hope the teachers I've really been impressed with the fact that they must ignore Daisy .. she's a good dog .. .. but we don't like to confuse dogs .. remember the story about perfect dog George biting Bell's mother , because he did not understand why bella's mother was making her giggle .. there are times but a dog bites a person and the dog is absolutely right .. unfortunately an awful lot of the world doesn't THINK that .. but damn it leave the service dogs alone .. we do try and get our dogs accustomed to the rude 2 year old that comes over and grabs him by the neck aT Costco .. we try and get them accustomed to that .. well I don't know what Josh is school is like ----I do know in junior high when the Bell rings and three thousand children all squeezed into a hallway .. there's hardly anyway we can duplicate that for training purposes .. so I always am nervous for the first week or two .. not because of the dog but because of the people around the dog .. I remember when George was first in school the principle wanted to keep him in the nurses room whEN Bella was in the cafeteria not realizing The George would absolutely panic if He couldn't find Bella .. so I think it was Megan went to the school and explained to the principle to put George under the table in the cafeteria and all would be fine .and it was |
