when i was a kid, my mother made us very aware of the tides.. a screwyballed thing to do... but i can remembeer lookng it up in the newspaper and being very proud to know ahead of time if the  ferry on the river ( hudson in ny)   was going to be uphill or down.  it was maybe the only time i ever read the newspaper. but it did establish  the news as a source of information...( that was back when they had editors who checked the validity of stories...)

i wondered if the students in  ipswich or danvers even knew the tides went in and out just like a newspaper predicts...-----and then we get kids  from middle america who have heard of tides but have no idea the significant amt of water sloshing about out there.  and who figured out the moon was involved????

so yesterday we had alot of people here for stew--alot.... it was a 50 degree day..

i took cindy out with ava... what a nice dog ava is...  cindy ended up walking further than i could-- so i sat and watched at the mall... they did well..

she is coming back friday- and will work with kati on sat and steve on sunday.. then if she needs megan  she can ride back and forth meatcutteer steve lives in that area...

the portable shatting project has been turned over to the keychain family  from conn...  the way i figure it  is...

if a school had a fundraising "fair" or "fest  where there are tables of stuff... they could set up a video -- teh video is of chickens-- and puppies  to attract attention - a poster to explain the numbers and the chickens--the video runs for about 25 minutes and then the hen makes her choice and the new member of the shatupon society is announced....

they have  a son in highschool who needed a project...  screwy as it sounds... it could catch on.. don't laugh... pet rocks did..

at the moment it is complimentary-- but we cold mass produce those things and sell them.

each one with a different winner.  i sent one to stedmans   colorado.  ?did you get it yet??

one of these days/weeks/months... i am going to sit down and try and understand facebook.-- there are soo many things i have studied in the past which kids today do not comprehend-- like carbon paper-  steve

 mentioned that at mail call-  but it is just one of many things just  gone.

times change  or figits past us..

i can remember men wandering around a supermarket -- lost and afraid- unable to comprehend why their wives had sent them to this environment which was second only to a woman's hair dressing place ..the men just could not bring themselves to push a shopping cart-- and grabbed one item and ran for the checkout.

i have to admit -- they are treated much better/ more normally..  than a woman in home depot.  there are times  in home depot- particularly around the lumber / contractor department where the jolly joe's behind the counter need to have a lesson in baking cookies-- just to square it up...

which brings to mind the new "pot washing " ..faucet at the sink.. i bought one at home depot for $150.00 ( the only one thay had)... and ordered a second one from a restaurant supply place for $250..  the home depot one is working fine... i am told the one in the barn is not as simple to use..

i need to go look..   they work very well...

i do not understand how this bit about "
raise the top of the bed 6 inches and you will sleep better--

they show lovely  wedge foam and someone happily sleeping..

so i bought  a craftmatic  bed.. and when i raise the top,

i don't mean i go shooting  off the bottom  but 

 i slowly but inevidibly slide  so my feet hang over.- 

i have noticed with   each breath i slide--

 maybe only  1/16th of an inch... but i hear the slide on the sheets...

keeps me awake...

which i then discuss in this daily doggie

with training methods-  specifically our spoon feeding  of young pups.

hmmmm..it does make a difference--in my opinion...

WELL  THAT WAS FUN.  GOING TO THE BIG CITY IS USUALLY PAINFUL-- PARKING--- WALKING -- NO GOLF CARTS .. THINGS LIKE THAT..  BUT BUD DROVE WONDERFULY - I WASN'T SCARED ONCE- DROPPED US AT JANINE'S DOOR AND DISAPPEARED WITH THE CAR- AND FOUND A PLACE TO PARK IT RIGHT OUTSIDE JANINE'S WINDOW-- SO WE COULD WATCH IT.  HE DROPPED KATI , THE 2 DOGS AND ME ONTO THE STREET- AND IT TOOK BOTH KATI AND I TO SHUT THE CAR DOOR...  THE WIND WHIPS AROUND THOSE BUILDINGS SOMETHING FIERCE..

I NEVER WALKED SO FAR  INSIDE A BUILDING---IT WAS ONE OF THOSE  GLASS AND MARBLE THINGS BUMPING INTO THE  SKYLINE OF BOSTON..

THE MOST AMUSING THING FOR ME WAS TO WATCH OLIVER-- HE OWNS THE JOINT...  BEHAVING PERFECTLY, SHE SETS HIM UP WATCHING AGILITY DOG SHOWS ON HER LAPTOP-- AND HE STARES AT THE SCREEN-- HE SEEMS TO TOTALLY UNDERSTAND-- AND IS NOT CONSTANTLY RUNNING BEHIND THE SCREEN TO SEE WHAT IS BEHIND ..

HOW ON EARTH DID I GET TO BE 78 AND NOT HAVE A SAUCE PAN TO COOK MY LIMA BEANS...

I ONCE HAD SO MANY PANS I COULDN'T GET THEM OUT OF THE PAN KEEPING PLACE .. LOOKING BACK IT PROBABLY WAS BECAUSE OF  THE ACCUMUATION OF LIDS  THAT NEVER WANDERED WHEN THE PANS TOOK OFF WITH STRANGERS.  THERE IS NOT ALOT YOU CAN DO WITH LIDS WHO HAVE LOST THEIR PANS..

I HAVE A LONG HISTORY OF MY LIFE WITH LIMA BEANS... FIRSTLY SO MANY PEOPLE HATE THEM THAT THEY ARE HARD TO FIND.  BUT I RECIENTLY FOUND A SOURCE.... AND I SHOULD BE ALL SET... EXCEPT LIMA BEANS TAKE A LONG TIME TO COOK-- LIKE SIMMER--- COVERED-- FOR 30 MINUTES IN A SMALL BIT OF WATER, BUTTER -PINCH OF SALT AND PINCH  OF SUGAR.. IT IS THAT 30 MINUTES THAT DOES ME IN EVERY TIME.  I CAN NOT TELL YOU HOW MANY POTS OF LIMAS I HAVE BURNED TO A CRISP, BECAUSE MY ATTENTION SPAN IS NOT MUCH MORE THAN TYPICAL  MICROWAVE TIMING  90 SECONDS TYPE...... AND HTEY DON'T MICROWAVE WELL AT ALL...  MY STOVE KEEPS RIGHT ON BURNING THINGS UP IF YOU DON'T SHUT IT OFF..-- AN AWFUL LOT OF PASTA FALLS IN TEH SAME CATAGORY OF  ENTIRE POTFULLS BURNED DRY  AS MY MIND WANDERS........

SO -- ABOUT A YEAR AGO.....I TRIED TO FIND A HOTPLATE ON A TIMER-- NOT READING THE DIRECTIONS TOO CAREFULLY, THE ONLY ONE I FOUND WAS A NUWAVE  ( WHICH FOR SHIPPING AND HANDLING I COULD HAVE 2)

 I NOW HAVE THE  2  BUT THEY CAME WITH ONLY A FRY PAN AND NO LID-- ONE IS NOW IN THE T TENT AND THE OTHER I AM TOLD INTHE TRAINING ROOM  I CAN ONLY HOPE THIER APPROPRIATE PANS ARE WITH THEM.

CURRENTLY  I AM BLESSED TO HAVE DONNA  WHO CAN REMEMBER SHE IS COOKING SOMETHING- WITH GREAT EXPECTATIONS I PULLED OUT MY FROZEN POD OF LIMAS... AND ... NO SAUCEPAN..

A GREAT NUMBER OF LIDS... BUT NO PANS..

I HAVE NOW JUST PURCHASED  A PAN ON EBAY WITH THE HOPES OF CLEARING A SMALL SPACE ON THE KITCHEN COUNTER FOR MY NEW WAVE "THING" AND MAYBE ... JUST  MAYBE  BE ABLE TO COOK  ONE OR TWO THINGS  LIKE LIMA BEANS WITHOUT BURNING THEM TO A VERY SMELLY MESS..

 (THE SUPER LIMA PRESENTATION IS A SHAKE OF STOVETOP STUFFING  IN THE LAST FEW MINUTES TO SOAK UP ANY EXTRA BUTTER   IN THE PAN...)

IT IS NOT A PARKING  LOT YET---- CURRENTLY IT IS MORE A SLALOM  COURSE FOR BUMPER CARS...  WE MAY LOOSE A FEW MORE SMALLER TREES-- BUT  HTE BIG ONES WILL STAY.

FOR THOSE OF YOU SO  INCLINED...  IF YOU GOOGLE EARTH-... OUR WHITE INDOOR ARENA IS NOT HARD TO FIND

BOXFORD RD  IPSWICH-- OR NORTH SIDE OF HOOD POND- AND THE SHOT THEY NOW HVE SHOWS THE PROBLEM'' TOO MANY CARS IN OUR "PLAY AREA  BETWEEN BARN AND TEEPEE.  BEHIND THE ARENA YOU CAN MAKE OUT THE REMAINS OF THE OLD ARENA THAT I DID NOT TEAR DOWN "SO I COULD  REMODEL" WITH OUT A BUILDING PERMIT...  THE AREA IS OURS  UP TO A SMALL  CLEARED SPACE-- PROBABLY ALMOST AN ACRE?? THE RIGHTOF WAY IS NOT REALLY VISABLE... EXCEPT IT ENDS ON THE STREET NEAR THE BUNCH OF CANNOES WHICH YOU CAN SEE.

THEY HAVE IT CLEARED-- NOW TO GO OUT AND LOOK IT OVER ND FIGURE WHAT IS PARKING/RIDING AND WHAT IS TURNOUT....IN CASE WE DO GET THE BARN BUILT RIGHT BEHIND THE ARENA.

HIGHLIGHT OF THE DAY,.... UNCOVER MY DESK.. THERE ARE SOME AMAZING  GROWTHS 

TEH LEFT DRAWER IS  OVERFLOWING  BECAUSE  THE REPRODUCTIVE ACTIVITY OF NOT ONLY THE  SCISSORS  BUT  MEASURING  TAPES 

SEEM TO BE IN SEASON , ALONG WITH CALIPERS AND TINY EYEGLASS SCREWDRIVERS.--- THEY JUST MULTIPLY  

POINTED AT THIS COMPUTER  SCREEN IS A SMALL BLOW TORCH LEFT OVER FROM THE GROUND LAMB/EURO/GYROS EPISODE.. 

IT STAYS THERE BECAUSE WITH ALL THE STUFF I HAVE BOUGHT WHICHGUARENTEED TO ORGANIZE

MY OFFICE , THEY NEVER PROVIDE A PLACE FOR A  "SMALL BLOWTORCH"- ---SO IT STAYS WHERE IT IS.

TENDER LOVING HOUSE CARE, AND BENTLEY TOOK GREAT OFFENCE AT TOENAIL SNIFFING.. AND BIT---AT---- HIM  (NO BLOOD) BUT 

OH THE NOISE-- SCREAMING HE RAN FOR THE BACK HALL---I RAN TO COMFORT HIM  -- YOU KNOW HE WAS TERRIFIED BECAUSE THAT ONE LINE OF HAIR IN THE CENTER OF HIS BACK WAS STANDING STRIAGHT UP...   I HAVE HEARD FOR YEARS-- THE EXPRESSION  "SCARED THE SHlT RIGHT OUT OF HIM" AND THIS MAY HAVE BEEN A REINCARNATION  OF THAT EVENT..... CYLINDARS....

IT TOOK A WHILE-- ESPECIALLY SINCE GRETCHEN TOOK THAT   MOMENT TO TELL ME WHAT SHE 

THOUGHT OF THE WHOLE EPISODE. ----BOY IS SHE VOCAL   -- AND EVERYONE IN THE DEAGLE HOUSE HAS BEEN BARKING SINCE.

WE--- RYAN AND I -- ARE IN LINE TO CLEAR THE NEW "PARKING AREA"... AND AS I LOOK.... BOY ARE THESE TINY TREES  TALL-- AND STRAIGHT.... ?4 INCHES IN DIAMETER--- I NEVER WOULD HAVE NOTICED AND CUT THEM INTO FIREWOOD EXCEPT FOR MY LIFE WITH TEEPEE'S..  THESE THINGS HAVE TO BE 30 FEET TALL.. AND ABSOLUTELY STRAIGHT.-- SO THE PLAN NOW IS TO  "OUTLINE" THE PARKING AREA WITH   THOSE.... I WONDER HOW THE OLDTIMERS MADE THOSE X SUPPORTS--- THAT WOULD BE IN KEEPING..    IF THE X WOULD SIT ONT HE GROUND WITH MINIMUM  DIGGING, IT MIGHT BE A SIMPLE COLORFUL FENCE PROJECT..

THERE ARE  ALOT OF THOSE STRAIGHT TREES...  ALOT.....

I  WILL HAVE TO GET   "THE TREE GUYS" IN TO CHOP THE BRUSH...

WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO PULL STUMPS-- WE CUT THE TREES ABOTU 18 " OFF THE GROUND TO GIVE US SOMETHING TO PULL.

AND SITTING  IN THE HEATED   A/C TRACTOR CAB  IS NOT ALOT DIFFERENT THAN SITTING HERE AT THIS DESK.

WE ARE SUPPOSED TO HAVE  A GOOD RAINSTORM TOMORROW WHICH  WILL WASH OFF THE STUMPS FOR CHIPPING.

THE MS SUPPOST GROUP WAS VERY INTERESTING... AND I FULLY EXPECT WE HAVE SOE SHOW UP AROUND  HERE-- THEY WERE A VERY CHEERFUL GROUP- EASILY ENTERTAINED WITH DOG STORIES... THEY  ASKED GOOD QUESTIONS... IT WAS NOTICABLE THAT ONE  WOMAN THERE WAS NEGATIVE.. AND YOU COUOLD TELL BY THE QUESTIONS-- THEY ALL HAD A NEGATIVE TWIST "WHAT SIZE CAR WOULD YOU NEED TO CARRY ONE OF THOSE"    " WHY GREAT DANES IF THEY DON'T LIVE LONG". "HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH TAKING THEM  INTO A RESTAURANT IF THERE IS SOMEONE TTHERE WHO IS AFRAID OF DOGS?" "HOW DO YOU CUT THIER NAILS" --   "DO THEY KILL CATS?"------THE REST OF THE PLACE HAD A BETTER OUTLOOK    "COULD THEY GET ALONG WITH CATS?""  -A MUCH DIFFERENT APPROACH TO THE SAME QUESTON. "CAN THEY HELP YOU UP CURBS ?"( I NEVER REALIZED THE PROBLEM WITH CURBS-- WHICH HAVE NO HANDRAIL)-

THERE WAS A GOOD  CNN GAME SHOW ON ..  THEY HAD TEH   ANCHOR PEOPLE COMPETING IN PAIRS  ABOUT POLITICAL FACTS... THEIR GENERIC KNOWLEDGE 

 WAS VERY IMPRESSIVE.-- AND PROBABLY CHEAP TO PRODUCE--- ALL THOSE PEOPLE ARE ALREADY ON THE PAYROLL... 

WHEN I HEAR OF ALL  THE MANY MILLIONS EACH ONE HAS SPENT IN NEW HAMPSHIRE--- I THINK -- WHO GOT IT???  TV STATIONS???   SIGN PRINTERS??    HAT MAKERS???

HAPPY PART IS THE CAKE BIT... VERY SUCCESSFUL PROJECT... FUN FOR ALL

BAD PART IS   SOMEONE SENT ME A VIDEO OF 3 PUPS ON PUPPY HILL.. I HAVE TOLD PEOPLE 100 TIMES -- AT THIS AGE ONLY 2 AT A TIME-- OTHERWISE TWO PICK ON ONE.  AND THE VIDEO SURE SHOWS IT

 IT WAS PROBABLY WILBUR THAT GOT NAILED BY  ?LANIE AND A HARL.

INEXCUSEABLE.  I WILL BE ASKING WHO DID THAT.-- IF FOR ANY REASON YOU HAVE 3... THEN A PERSON MUST BE THERE 

WILBUR TRIED TO RUN THRU THE GATE AND MISSED CRAMMING  INTO THE FENCE TERRIFIED.

WHEN I SAY SOMETHING -- I MEAN IT... IN CASE YOU DIDN'T KNOW

THE NEIGHBORS ON THE OTHER DRIVEWAY ARE HAVING TROUBLE ACCEPTING THAT IT IS MY DRIVEWAY- I HAVE USED IT OCCASIONALLY OVER THE 35 YEARS THAT I HAVE LIVED HERE... BUT  NOW  I WANT TO USE THE AREA BEHIND THE ARENA-- IT WOULD BE GOOD PARKING-  SO THERE ARE TREES TO CLEAR--  I HAD IT SURVEYED SO  AS LONG AS THEY ARE RIGHT, WE SHOULD HAVE NO PROBLEM....  AND  VERY NEAR WHERE THEY PUT TH E"FLAGS" THERE IS THE REMANANTS OF AN OLD STONE WALL-- SO I THINK PROBABLY, THEY ARE RIGHT.- ALSO I WANT TO HAVE AMBULANCE AND EMERGENCY VEHICLE ACCESS.  THE AREA IS BIGGER THAN THE PARKING AREA ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE BARN...  COUPLE HUGE TREES WHICH I WILL LEAVE  BUT THE SCRUB HAS TO GO.

What a great day! I brought a Dog Day Cake today to Engine 154 Staten
 Island , NY near my neighborhood .
 They were surprised & very happy & eager to know more about Service Dog Project, Carlene& the Dogs❣ ,had questions about the dogs & training  and all..I brought the Cake flyer & a photo with Carlene & Bentley& Chaos, the first cake she brought to the firehouse & the photo with the firemen. They LOVED that !! And I showed them Bella  & George photo &  explain they were  recipients of the AKC Humane Award(& George is Bentley's son) and we're all raised  by Carlene& staff SDP, ( now i will dollar up !!)  they had many questions about  the mobility & training ..& were impressed with the idea of Danes  with the children & with vets!!  They love anything about all service dogs . I showed them  ( on my iPhone )explore.org & our live cams! They loved they could watch the dogs... Very interested ! And told them about Mail Call & asking questions& trainer talks .. So much fun!!!
They invited me in kitchen& were making lunch( eggplant fried with mozzarella& prosciutto with pesto heroes!!) & asked if I'd like some ..  They are animal lovers.. I has a Pekinese , but loves Danes- his brother in law  has a white Dane ( can hear&  see well he said)..two others have Pygmy PIGS!!  Great bunch here!!!

Oh and the fire truck photos without  the men are just  stock photos of the  engine company that I googled to show .. They have a fire"tricked out"  golf cart like vehicle !! So cute !
By the WAY: they asked if we wouldn't mind if they posted the cake  flyer & photos I brought on their bulletin board!!!
I might bring an SDP calendar next time!!

Dolly likes her new job. We work in the business office for a local farmer. She enjoys being able to occasionally look out the window and see the barn cats wandering around. When we first started there I was a little concerned about her interest in them and wondered if she would try and chase after them when we were either going in or coming from work. Of course, she never has. I would start with the leave it, leave it, good girl; the minute we walked out the door. She always did, it was tempting but she resisted. Now we walk out and I rarely have to even say it. 

We are patiently practicing our wait for spring to come. Looking forward to some vacationing in our new (used) motor home. I am confident I will be able to see things and go places that I would not have been able to, before Dolly. I have had her now for 1 year and 4 months and I am still amazed at how it has changed my life. It still brings tears to my eyes when I think about the gift I have been given. Looking forward to visiting once the weather breaks and we can head that way. 

Thank you so much for your heart and passion. Also a thanks to everyone involved in making my life blessed.

Thought I would share:

On Wednesday I went to my local grocery store (not a Cosco member) to order cake for today.  I was met by a grump lady who just wanted to take my order and get it over with.  (I just think she was very over worked and under paid).  I told her I needed a spectacular cake and told her I was delivering to a Fire House on the 19th and proceeded to tell her the story and all about SDP.  By the time she was finished writing up the order she was smiling ear to ear! (:  I asked her to put a lot of love into making that cake and that she did!

I picked up the cake . . . . it was Spectacular Chocolate and White cake decorated with chocolate dipped strawberries (just like I asked) with chocolate writing and some white and chocolate wafers.  I left telling her how much I loved it and what a great job she did.  A lot of love went into that cake♥

Delivered cake to fire house and was not invited in but all the guys came out with great big smiles and big WOWs and thank-yous. 

Sure wish I had taken a picture of that cake . . . . oh well, next time.

speaking of overworked and underpaid....  having cp's here "on vacation" is  a huge help..  keep in mind this is not  spa where you can lie around and bask in the sun...  but crawl around in unlikely situations amid our happy tails department..

the pups are coming along well according to kati and megan...  that will be the next job... going thru the applications and see who might match..i wish i had thought earlier-- but when you come here for an initial visit, i wish you would bring a photograph with your name on it.... so i could put that with your application  and remember who is which easier..  don't send the pictures with  the application... bring them... then that is a way of telling quickly who has been here too...-- so if you have been here... it would be a good idea to send a photo with your name on it...

i had a phone call from a delightful woman yesterday -- i hope she shows up today---it was one of those conversations which just got on a roll-- it happens every once in a while...

i was not accustomed to picking up strange men in bars- but one day - can't remember the reason- i sat down next to a man- i had never seen before.. and he asked "did  you see bill get in his car?" and i quickly responded " no he went with charlie"-- for the next 5 minutes  the conversation went like that -- i really had to pay attention-  to respond with perfectly normal conversation that sounded like we knew each other. '" i have to get joe in to replace that window ".... "how is joe's kid  with the broken arm?" --- "he never shoud have ridden his bike off that cliff"----    it went on and  on...  just fun conversation- totally without any "I"  or "YOU"  in it--- we were both on the same wave legnth.  it happens... not often...

slightly related--these phone cameras-  are a godsend in some situations--  but just because i am in a store with a service dog, does not mean i am fascinated with 48 pictures of your dog--- which is cute-- "you have to see  my fluffy sitting in the chair" --- when the phone gives you  the ability to scroll thru dozens of pictures looking for one picture-- while  living thru side remarks about dozens of others "oh here is one where fluffy  met another dog on the beach"...   

actually it is good and bad... one of our recipients said  it took her 2 hours to go buy a gallon of milk... a nd another guy said "whata chick magnet"-

whatever... life is different with a dog.
