AND I CAN NOT GO THRU ALL THE FRIENDING PROCESS BECAUSE BASICALLY I DON'T KNOW EXACTLY WHAT THAT MEANS

LET ME TRIP LIGHTLY THRU THAT PROCESS..-  STARTING WITH THE HUNDREDS OF DOGS I HAVE OWNED AND HANDLED-- I NEVER HAD A DEW CLAW GET TORN IN ANY WAY..  TOENAILS OFTEN.. EARS  OFTEN..TAILS FREQUENTLY BLEEDING..  BUT  DEW CLAWS... NO.

 

PLUS THE PROCESS OF REMOVING DEW CLAWS DOES NOT GET MY APPROVAL.  IT IS DONE WITH DAY OLD PUPS- BASICALLY RIPPED OFF  NO ANESTHESIA...HOW BAD IS IT?  YOU CAN NOT HAVE TH E MOTHER DOG ANYWHERE NEAR  BECAUSE WHEN SHE HEARS THE SCREAMING PUP SHE LOOSES CONTROL.  THAT IS HOW BAD. 

 SAME THING WITH DOCKING TAILS...

 

I HAVE ABSOLUTELY NO PROBLEM WITH CUTTING THINGS OFF UNDER ANESTHESIA BY A VET...

 STARTING WITH NEUTERING MALES....\

 

WHERE I GET ANNOYED IS WHEN THE GENERAL PUBLIC  - IN TRYING TO LOOK OUT FOR ANIMALS DECIDES SOME PROCEEDURE IS BAD  AND ILLEGAL --THEN INSTEAD OF PROPER SURGERY YOU GET A PERSON WITH RUSTY SCISSORS ON A MOTEL FLOOR CUTTING OFF PUPPY TAILS.  INSTEAD OF TRYING TIO OUTLAW THE PROCEEDURE  THE LAW SHOULD BE IT MUST BE DONE BY A VET UNDER ANESTHESIA. ..

 

I CAN HEAR IT NOW..." IT IS WORSE FOR THE PUP TO BE UNDER ANESTHESIA THAN IT IS TO JUST CHOP THEM OFF"    IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHICH END OF THE CHOPPERS YOU ARE ON..

 

I WISH I COULD MANAGE TO HAVE ALL TH E DANE SERVICE DOGS TAILS CROPPED---  GEORGE HAS CROPPED 1-- FOR A  QUADREPLEGIC PERSON'S DOG BECAUSE IT WAS BOUND TO GET BROKEN GOING THRU DOORS-- GEORGE LEFT A 6" STUMP IN  CASE WE NEEDED A HANDLE.

 

I HAVE HAD MANY DANES WITH TAIL PROBLEMS ----- HAPPY TAILS-- WHERE THEY BANG THE END ON THE WALLS SO HARD THE IT DEVELOPES A SMALL BLEEDER-- WHECH THE DOG CAN USE AS A SPRAYGUN TO PLASTER THE CEILING AND WALLS WITH BLOOD-- AND WHEN IT HAPPENS  THE DOG DECIDES YOU ARE TRYING TO GRAB HIS TAIL AS SOME KIND OF GAME-- AND HE WAGS IT HARDER,

 

AND EARS -  WHEN THEY  GRAB EACH OTHER BY THE EARS, AND SHAKE BLOOD ALL OVER -  OR THEY GET YEASTY INFECTIONS OFTEN.  IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO SLEEP IN A ROOM WITH A DOG WITHA  YEASTY EAR..   IT ITCHES AND THEY SHAKE THIER HEADS EVERY 15 SECONDS.

 

I EVEN HAD A DOG BITTEN BY A CHILD-- A 2"  TEAR IN THE EAR-- ( IT WAS AT A CHRISTMAS TREE LIGHTING IN MEDFORD  "WANNA SEE ME BITE THE DOG?" A 12 YEAR OLD KID SAID TO HIS FRIEND...  HE BIT DOWN  JUST BEFORE I BROKE HIS NOSE.   BLOOD ALL OVER

 

 

I DON'T HAV ANY STRONG FEELINGS ABOUT CROPPED EARS --- EXCEPT---- AND THIS IS A BIG ONE... - THE SHOW CROP IS LONG AND TAPERED. IT TAKE S FOREVER FOR THE EARS TO STAND-- SOMETIMES MEANING DOGS ARE "IN TAPES" FOR MONTHS/YEARS/-- 

THAT TAPING  AROUND THE EAR-- ALL WHITE AND TIDY LOOKING     DOES NOT MEET MY APPROVAL.--  THERE  ARE WAYS AROUND THAT HORRID TAPING.  IN MY OPINION.

 

WHY THE PUBLIC ACCEPTS "DEW CLAWS SHOULD BE REMOVED AS A BABY"   I DO NOT KNOW.

GOOD WAY TO START THE DAY-- AND WHY WE GO THRU ALL THIS...

The haters are welcome to call ME. Were it not for you and all of the wonderful, talented, and giving people surrounding you, I would be spending my days staring at the walls of my house polishing up my walker.

Instead I am out everyday with my amazing service dog Pink helping others. Last week I easily walked through ice and snow, my dog supporting me, to get to someone's door. Let 's see a walker do that.

WHEN YOUR PUPS ARE STANDING ON TH E 4' FENCE IN PREP FOR LEAPING OVER IT. XRAYING THE HIPS SEEMS AN ODD WAY TO SPEND $500.. ONE XRAY WHICH WAS DONE AT ANGEL AFTER ONE OF MY DOGS GOT HURT, THE VET THERE SAID THE HIPS WERE "CAVERNOUS" - NEVER SEEN BETTER ON A DANE.. WE WATCH THEM.

TIME FOR THE CHUPPIES TO GET THE LEAD OUT AND START THINKING OF BEHAVING..-- WITH ALL THESE GREAT VOLUNTEERS HERE I REALLY NEED EACH CHUPPIE IN THE HOUSE FOR ABOUT 1/2 HOUR EVERY DAY TO HAVE A LOOK AND SEE IF WE HAVE ANY BREEDING OR FABULOUS FAILURES IN THE GROUP.. SO FAR THEY ALL LOOK ABOUT THE SAME..

I  HAVE HAD 10 HOURS SLEEP--  ANOTHER 4 WEEKS OF 10 HOURS AND I MAY BE BACK TO NORMAL- WHATEVER THAT IS.

 

TODAY WILL BE  "PECKER CHECKER DAY"

 

WHEN WE ARE OUT TRAINING  THE 3RD QUESTION PEOPLE ASK   "IS THAT A MALE OR FEMALE?"  - I ALWAYS WANT TO ANSWER WITH SOME SNIPPY REMARK-- BUT I DO HOLD MY TONGUE.. IT SEEMS TO BE A CRITICAL BIT OF INFORMATION

 

TO CONFORM WITH THAT BIT OF THE IDIOCRIOSY--- UNDER CONTROLLED CIRCUMSTANCS...I WILL  UPEND THE PIMENTOS.-- FOR A GOOD 6 MONTHS IT WILL MAKE NO DIFFERENCE... EXCEPT.....

I DON'T MEAN TO BE A SEXIST-- BUT IN FACT   THE FEMALES ARE THE FIRST TO CLIMB OVER THE FENCES AND GET LOOSE.

 OLD WIVES TALE #932  IF THEY CAN THERE IS NO HIP DYSPLASIA..-- WELLLLLLLL...  MY FATHER ( BORN 1900) TOLD ME IF A PUP PUTS HIS LEGS STRAIGHT BACK HIS HIPS WERE GOOD..-- LONG BEFORE DYSPLASIA WAS A WORD --- THE SECOND BIT OF INFO IS THAT --- LONG AGO ( 1995??) WHEN THE PENN HIP TEST WAS IN VOGUE -- I HAD DEAGLE "PENN HIPPED"  AND IN THE PROCESS THE VET TECH WHO WAS EXTENDING  HIS LEGS BACKWARD ( UNDER ANESTHESIA AND ON THE TABLE) SAID.. I CAN TELL YOU NOW HIS HIPS ARE FINE BECAUSE WHEN WE  CAN'T GET THE LEGS BACKWARDS LIKE THIS IS WHEN THE RESULTS COME BACK WITH DYSPLASIA.

THQT IS WHEN I STARTED FEEDING THE PUPS ON THIER HIND LEGS SO I COULD GET A REALLY GOOD LOOK AT THEM AS THEY DEVELOPED-- THAT SEEMS TO WORK AS WELL AS ANYTHING- THE RECORD IS VERY GOOD AT ID'ING A PERFECT PET/FABULOUS FAILURE-

IT IS A WIN WIN  TO TAKE THE DOGS THERE FOR TRAINING-- IT IS HEATED AND AIRCONDITIONED-- AND WHENEVER YOU HANDLE AN ANIMAL YOU ARE TRAINING IT.

I SEE IT HERE WITH THE SMALL PUPS-- WHEN ON A RAINY/COLD DAY  MEGAN OR HIALRY WILL TRY DOING LAPS-- RUNNING AOUND THE CENTER  FIREPLACE AND BEFORE VERY LONG- THERE WILL BE AT LEAST ONE PUP WHO WAITS FOR THEM TO COME ROUND...  GOT TO REMEMBER THOSE WHO DO THAT.

 

THAT IS WHY I SAY OUR DOGS ARE EDUCATED-- NOT TRAINED..

 

YOU CAN NOT TRAIN A DOG TO DO ALL THEY THINGS OURS WILL BE REQUIRED TO DO-- SO I DO NOT WANT TO INHIBIT THIER ABILITY TO THINK ABOUT THINGS.

SHE HAS DECLARED US TOTALLY INCOMPETEMNT BECAUSE I COULDN'T TELL  A MALE FROM  FEMALE PUP-- WHY COLD SHE NOT SEE-- I GOT 9 RIGHT???

IT WAS A TOUGH COUUPLE DAYS..WITH NOT ENOUGH SLEEP

WHO FORTUNATELY  SAID HE WAS HOME AND COULD DEAL- 

 COLLEEN AND BUD ROSE TO THE OCASSION FROM HERE AND PRISCILLA MET US...- AND XRAY PROVED 1 PUP-- PROBALBLY DEAD.. AND HE WENT BETWEEN OPERATIONG WITHOUT HIS NORMAL HELP-- OR WAITING TIL MORNING---. OLIVE WAS MISERABLE - WITH CONTRACTIONS EVERY 30 SECONDS-  HE GAVE HER SOME MORE CALCIUM AND ANOTHER PIT SHOT AND STARTED TO SHAVE HER LEG-- HE HAD THE PRE ANESTHEIC SHOT IN HIS HAND WHEN BUD WALKED OVER AND SAID "LOOKS LIKE A PUPPY" -- SHE PASSED THE DEAD PUP ALONG WITH A HUGE COLLEDTION OF  "STUFF"  AND FELT MUCH BETTER

 

WE CAME HOME-

I SLEPT (HA! ) ON THE COUCH BEHIND HER- AND GOOD THING-- THIS IS A WANDERING BUNCH-- WE WOULD HAVE LOST AT LEAST 2- ONE MADE IT ALL THE WAY TO THE COLD FLOOR ?6 FEET- AND NEEDED A RIDE BACK.. PLUS SEVERAL OTHER WANDERERS.  BEHIND HER..

 

AND THAT IS ALL I CAN REMEMBER RIGHT NOW.

re: THE BRICK BUYING TO HELP US WIHT THE FOOD AND HEAT  AND PUPPY CARE IN N GENERAL... THAT WE FORM A SHATUPON SOCIETY--WHICH WOULD HAVE TH E VERY EXCLUSIVE MEMBERSHIP OF THOSE WHO'S DONATION RECIEVED THE GIFT ONLY A HEN CAN PROPERLY GIVE.   THE MEMBERSHIP WOULD  ALLOW YOU ONE NIGHT ( 2 DAYS ) OF   PPP  ( PUPPY POO PICKING ) WHILE RESIDING IN OUR GUEST CABIN WITH A DANE OR TWO FOR COMPANY.

WE WOULD PROVIDE YOU WITH ALL THE EGGS YOU CAN GATHER WHILE NOT UPSETTING THE 4  NASTY ROOSTERS IN RESIDENCE,

THE OVERNIGHT WOULD BE TRANSFERRABLE ( FOR THOSE LIVING TOO FAR AWAY)

PROBLEM BEING IF WE HAVE A LAUNDRY CONTAINER-- WHICH WOULD LOOK BETTER-- WE STILL WOULD NEED TO LIFT IT ONTO THE GOLF CART SOMENOW-- AN THEN DO A DROP AND LIFT AGAIN AT THE LAUNDRY DOOR.. ( STORAGE OF SOILED LAUNDRY  INSIDE TH E BUILDING IS NOT  PLEASENT-- )

AND RAIN FALLS DOWN   AT EITHER END--  TO COMPLICATE MATTERS.

THE STAIRS--- I AM HAPPY TO REPORT WE HAVE SOME STAIRS ON THE WAY  AND SHELIA HAS ALREADY DESIGNED HOW TO  SET A COUPLE UP WITH OUR SCAFFOLDING SO WE WILL HAVE A REGULAR PUPPY GYM.... NOW THAT THE SCAFFOLDING IS NO LONGER NEEDED FOR DRYING OF FLUFFIES ( WE NOW HAVE A COMMERCIAL  DRYER)

SHELIA IS AN IDEA PERSON== TO PUT IT MILDLY-   ?OUT OF THE BOX??----- WHAT BOX.?

 

YESTERDAY- THE EASY PART WAS ALOT OF ACCOUNTING    2 INTERVIEWS-  CAMERA FOCUSING  AND THEN IT GOT EXCITING..

MARIA COULDN'T DRIVE AT NIGHT HAVING BEEN UP FOR 48 HOURS AT THAT  POINT.--- SO SHE IS HERE WITH  VANILLA ( AKA MAYBE)

 

FIREPLACE IS GOING- THANKS TO THE WOOD BIN GETTING FILLED SOMEHOW.  AND SOMEBODY LANDED A TURKEY DINNER FROM THE DELI- WHICH WAS SUPPER FOR 4 OF US AT ABOUT 10PM.

 

AND OLIVE DOES NOT HAVE MILK DRIPPING-- SO IT MAY GO ANOTHER DAY OR SO... AND SHE IS HUGE.  GIVES A NEW MEANING TO PENDULOUS.

HOW BAD IS IT???? WHEN SHE SQUATS TO PEE-- THE BACK PAIR HANG INTO THE DIRT-- THEN SHE COMES IN THE HOUSE AND TRIES TO CLEAN UP, BUT CAN'T REACH AROUND HER BELLY TO DO THAT.

NOW THAT IS A PROBLEM !

 

IN THE MIDST OF IT ALL EXPLORE FIXED THE FOCUS ON THE CAMERA AND IT LOOKS SOOOOO MUCH BETTER.

WE USE THE TRAIN OUT OF BEVERLY-- ROUND TRIPS TO EITHER THE DUNKIN DONUTS IN ROCKPORT-- OR STARBUCKS IN NORTH BEVERLY-- AND I AM HAPPY TO SAY WHEN THE CONDUCTOR ASKED US FOR A TICKET-- I BLANKLEY LOOKED AT HIM AND SAID" THESE ARE SERVICE DOGS IN TRAINING"

THE PROBLEM IS

I DO HAVE SOME SIGNIFICANT EDUCATIONAL BACKGROUND-- ASSUMING THAT IS TH E CASE HOW DO I THEN  BECOME TH E  NATIONAL EXPERT ON PICKING UP POO WITH 2 PIECES OF CEREAL BOXES?? 

 

MY FATHER   WHO PAID FOR MY EDUCATION  -- IS PROBABLY TURNING OVER IN HIS GRAVE.

 

THEN I GO DOWN THE ROAD OF " WELL I DO HAVE SOME WELL EDUCATED FRIENDS  AND A COUPLE RELATIVES WITH  LETTERS AFTER THEIR NAMES..." 

 

BUT THAT JUST FILLS UP THE PAGES  AND I CAN NOT ACTUALYL SEE ANYBODY READING THAT STUFF;

SO I WENT TO A MEETING WITH TH E COMPANY PRESIDENT--  WITH ME WAS  A GUY IN A BLUE SUIT ETC- THERE WIHT HIS REPORT OF THE OTHER 1/2  THE COMPANY.. IT WAS 1/2 INCH THICK-- THE KIND OF ACCORDIAN PAPER  WITH ALL TH E HOLES - ( YOU YOUNG FOLK MAY NOT REMEMBER)--HE HAD A BIG GOOD LOOKING WAD OF PAPER  WHICH HE LIFTED OUT OF HIS BLACK BREIFCASE.-- I HAD  ONE SHEET THAT I HAD TRANSPORTED BY FOLDING IN MY BACK POCKET. 

 

HERE COMES TH E IMPORTANT (LUCKY) PART...

 

I TOOK ONE LOOK AT HIS 1/2" THICK REPORT AND  SAID

 "IT IS WRONG.  I CAN NOT TELLYOU WHY IT IS WRONG.. BUT I WILL BET MY $2 ON IT IS WRONG"  

 

THE  SMALL GROUP LOOKED AT HIS POLISHED SHOES- AND MY BARN SNEAKERS--AND RAISED THEIR NOSES ( PROBABLY WITH GOOD REASON)

 

THE BOOK SOLD FOR 86 CENTS- AND HIS TOTAL SALES MONEY ENDED UP IN AN ODD NUMBER.

 

AND THAT IS THE REASON I HAVE A BARN AND INDOOR ARENA BECAUSE THEY GAVE THE ENTIRE ACCOUNTING OVER TO ME-- TO BE DONE AT HOME ( THE BARN SNEAKERS PROBABLY CAUSED THAT)

i hope ron's egg collection of 27 eggs was because no one collected them for a couple days... 

 if 27 was from one day-- we have a problem coming up.. i know we got a bunch of baby chicks that are now beginning to lay-- but 27 eggs a day can be overwhelming.

it also means spring is on the way-- chickens notice the few extra daylight hours as we go into spring-- so they lay more eggs

 

the totally miss the faCT THAT THERE IS EAsily 2  feet of snow right outside their door..

this wil not help the fact that my reading problem is exasperated by the fact that at my age,and short term memory.. by the time i get to the end of a senticne, i have forgotten the first part.

 

product manuals- never known for their clarity-- are lethal to me...

today's schedule

 

the vacines should arrive fedex'd  we have a few kennel cough's to do-- calleen thinks it may not work 100%  but it might shorten or ease the symptoms

 

and i bet she knows- ( having run a big  grooming outfit for years)

 

and we have the c5 for boosters on th e big dogs-- and initial shots for some of the pups.

 

there is a big controversy on vacines..-the controversy can go on it's merry way.. but there is one concept to consider

AND THIS IS MY OWN private old wives tail-

-

the pup gets it 's initial immunity from the mom's cholostrum- how long that lasts  is a variable-- but at some point it give out.    maybe george knows-- or it cold be one of those unknowns....  if you give the first shot before mom's colostrum has quit, the shot is not effective ( BOY  AM I GONNA CATCH IT FOR THIES ONE)  so the objedct is to cover the pup as soon as  needed without over vaccinating..

 

so my person al is  6 weeks-- and then somewhere 12-16 weeks  then yearly.

 

i am gonna catch it for putting out such false info......maybe... ??? george????

she is slightly uncomfortable-- minor pawing--  i don't know what to do about th e camera-- maybe try and shift it  to which ever area is active

and th e  muppies will be in  the house at some point for 1/2 hour or so...

there is not going to be the usual daily doggie.  i do not have time to explain why there is a wood chipper in my bath tub.

 

one of you camera people has donated some more pieces to this go pro camera  so i now have no excuse not to film  the other things around here that you all have been asking about.

 

the concept was for me to wear this on my head ( that takes some practice)  and film megan  etc...  training and doing some of th e  other things around here.  the resulting film-- on  cards--- would be too big to send out-- so i  am hoping explore will edit and trim it up then run it at times when one camera is "dark"  like puppy hill.

 

i realize i am inviting comments---- and i welcome comments from anyone who has trained 50 service dogs-  but i will not have time to answer questions from people who have read one article somewhere-

 

there is sound on this camera-- explore better edit that too-- i would hate to make a sailor blush.

for bad news--- we have the passing of chloe - once known as "miss piggy" (bobby x lilly)  ----- mother of   cuba  bristol and karma---  the pearsons  gave her a wonderful life and were careful to be sure she had an uncomplicated passing.

another day- another argument with technology

 

you all know i do not let a dog come out of anesthesia without sitting on the floor with them -- reason being "brownie"  an absolutely wonderful dog hurt his tail while in penna -( and i was not there) so he had to have it  amputated.. whoever that vet was  put him in a cage after surgery  to come out of anesthesia. in the process    dogs  pick up their head and bang it to th efloor trying to figure out why life is not normal.. so after that brownie would "alert" at any metal noise-- lie a garbage can lid.  - an otherwise perfect dog..

 

this has caused me to spend many hours sitting on the floor in the vets' office  with vet tech's stepping over me...

 

that was the case yesterday waiting for perry to wake up.. so i played with my cell phone- i had several hours with nothing to do and decided to tackle that thing

the basic problem is jade-- one of our recipients- set it up for me when it was new--  and put in a password known only to whatever gods there are.  so there is a lot  of it i can not use.

but the GPS has been known to function- so i started in  - with gusto-

 

try as i might- i could not convince the darn thing i was not in Cincinnati, ohio  ..  it insisted on giving me directions to drive 1324 miles back to Boston.

 

if i had believed the thing- and driven east- as it suggested-- i would have drowned in the atlantic ocean

 

so much for believing a computer

there are details-- like--- is this the daily doggie or doggie daily or even worse to put a  period after the title--

doesn't matter until out  ask the computer to sort it out and you get results that are wrong.

and the excell spreadsheet program  has a mind of it's own at times..

 

so back to dogs...

 

to define new people and their jobs-- none of which are 40 hours per week...

 

maria  has a spreadsheet mind  and is going to keep track of names and numbers and distemper shots- along with  taking a puppy home with  her every few days-- to be bomb proofed by her 5 kids.

 

tracy and paula are doing kennel management so that megan has nothing to do in that department.

 

ron and paul are part time doing whatever to maintain the property

 

jamie is filling in here and there

 

and shelia's daughter is a megan look alike ( tall) who speaks dog very well- we hope to work her in  in spite of the fact that she is a licensed tuggboat driver.

 

she ought to fit in really well with our engineer who is a pastry chef.

everything else will have to be accomplished by the volunteer crew..

 

given enough people.. amazing things can be......

 

i remember when ( here we go) i had an older barn in  lynnfield  ( not antique-- just older)- had been a milking barn at one point.. - i jerry rigged it into the neighborhood  4h barn.  and there was a  wooden shed attached...   we stored loose shavings  there (shavings  is a whole nother story)

we ended up with 15 or so kids  horses. - the kids pretty much took care of them as any good 4h kid would. 

 

 one night at suppertime  they came in and told me  carol's horse had fallen  in a hole  .  blondie( 1200 pounds) had gone into that shed- which we did not know was a cistern to collect rainwater for milk cows in case the well went dry.. the floor had been light wood-- not capable of 1200 pounds.  --  about 12 feet around- the horse was un injured and  quite content walking in a circle- problem was - he was down  a good 10  feet.-

 

a crowd was beginning to gather  and all look at me-

 

 one of those big cranes could have lifted him  but he would get  scared and scraped up in the process-- plus that would have been awfully expensive  -  so i called the local gravel pit and had them deliver a huge load of stone-- we were going to shute it into the cistern..  except the sliding noise scared blondie- who's owner was now in th e hole with him.   the driver told me... "it is 4:30 and i quit at 5".. so i said  "dump it".  which he did.

 

by then we had a real crowd-- i handed out buckets and we started a bucket brigaide    a tv truck arrived  with it's floodlights- taking pictures of the 3 year old kid  sitting on that pile of stones filling a bucket with a cup-  i wish i had a picture of that  neighborhood kid-- well past her bedtime-- doing what she could to help.

 

it was about 11pm when the crowd cheered a s the horse jumped out the last 3'

 

i never forgot that kid with her cup- making a difference.

regardless of what the camera people pointed out.... it was not only the women who were shoveling..   greg and paul were doing massive snow removal- like putting diesel in the tractor-- and shoveling it out when stuck... so they were working..it just didn't look like that....

 

having been 30 years in the  film industry.... cameras do lie... most significant demo of that is  one of the mythbusters doing the rubic cube in record time.

start with a new cube in order-- screw it up and run the film backwards..

everybody worked-- thank heavens---- service dog  project is very dependent on different people for different things that i can no longer do myself.  that concept terrifies me..  so you people with our dogs-- time to thank the shoveler division--------- .we are dependent on ,many divisions.....

 just like the camera people sending towels and cardboard-- people showed up with shovels-- to bail us out when the street  plow could not do it .  

 

it was a bit like the expression "give enough monkeys  enough typewriters and one will type the complete works of Shakespeare.." 

 

 enough people with enough shovels and  we had what seemed impossible.... a path to the kennel and around the pastures so the dogs can get out..  thank heavens.

 

after that -- somebody named steven came back with his truck-- the one that had got stuck the night before-- and in daylight with a tiny path to start , he has cleaned up the parking lot...  then paul and greg  "cleaned up the corners"

 

during the storm the people making a fortune were th e owners of trucks with plows... after a  storm it is the people with  front loaders who earn a fortune--- doing hydrants and corners...

so paul and greg were our  " corner crew"   things like the chicken coop etc..

a dog with an injured stitched up foot will leave it alone if you fill a kong with interesting stuff... not just dog food pellets.. good stuff !!

after th e removal of a weird  lump  had 4 inches of stitches--  which maria and i with  our  best vet knowledge  decided it needed air--

it was not passing the "smell test"    and left off all the bandages...--

 

 after a dunk in diluted betadine and left open....it is better this morning..

at least it smells better.

 

letting her walk around in the snow is not a bad way to clean it either... we decided...

paul came to the rescue-  catching up on the  things he does that no one else even notices til disaster strikes-- like no firewood up by the house...

chaos was beside herself to be with earlene for the shoveling group-- she then fell into bed and slept all afternoon .. when earlene said good bye, she kind of looked at me and said "now what do i do?"

earlene will be back tonight

which reminds me....  time has come to get  olives's area ready- and she should come here very soon...

 

bless the wish list..... i put several of those x-pen things on  amazon  and we have had  a few arrive...  if you look carefully you will see a few of them in use to steer  pups right out the doggie door in the kennel--   then we need them in the house to keep the house dogs in a defined area   next we need to keep olive secure in what she must feeil is a secure area without supervision by luna or noel..... then we ad th eshelving to keep the pups in  their defined area..

 

we have a lot of dogs in different stages-- so we need to  deal with them in as normal a manner as is possible.

 

we had "new" volunteers yesterday who could not believe the gracious living accomodations of the new deagle house...." i could easily live there" 

---- right !  that is  what i had in mind...

 

actually i am a fan of   "tiny houses" ---- that is worth a google- there are some amazing tiny houses...- smaller than the deagle house- tho often taller..

 

neil sent me a collection  of those clever things-   best was-- use a staple remover to get things on a key ring.. i have suffered with  that problem for years...

GREG GETS THE BRASS RING FOR DRIVEWAY RECOVERY YESTERDAY--

 WITH A GREAT DEAL OF EFFORT AND 2 FUNNY HAND WARMER THINGS HE MANAGED TO BREAK US THRU  FROM GUEST HOUSE PATH TO THE STREET. SLOW BUT STEADY WORK WITH A 4' BUCKET-- PLOWING WAS NOT POSSIBLE.

 

BETSY ( OF SCARLOTT FAME) HAD A NEIGHBOR WITH A BIGGER THAN PICKUP TRUCK WHO CAME TO HELP-- HE SMASHED INTO THE SNOW WHERE GREG LEFT OFF-- WENT ABOUT 20 FEET AND THAT WAS THE END OF THAT IDEA...I WAS FASCINATED TO SEE HIM  GET HIMSELF LOOSE BY ANGLING THE PLOW  TO GET THAT NECESSARY NUDGE TO GET  TRACTION. SO HE QUIT  ..- HE PROBABLY COULD DO IT IF WE GET A PATH THRU WITH THE KABOTA FIRST. 

 

 THE KABOTA FRONT END DOES WORK... IT IS JUST SLOW GOING

MOLLY'S FATHER SAID HE COULD PROBABLY GET HERE MONDAY AFTERNOON.- HE HAS LOADERS THE SIZE OF  A LARGE GARAGE... HE KNOCKED DOWN AND REMOVED THE COLLAPSED ARENA---   HE WILL GET US DOWN TO GROUND.. ESPECIALLY SINCE IT IS SUPPOSED TO RAIN.

 

WE ARE GOING TO HAVE A BIGGER MESS MONDAY- AND TUESDAY-- WHAT HAPPENS IS THE SNOW DAMS UP THE  SAND RING IN FRONT OF THE BARN SO THE WATER CAN'T DRAIN.. AND THEN   IT FREEZES- AND WE HAVE 60 X 100 OF GLARE ICE...-

THERE IS NO TIME WHEN  DANES ARE MORE  DANGEROUS  THAN TO HAVE A HAPPY DANE RUSHING TO GREET YOU  ON GLARE ICE---  THEY RUN RIGHT AT  YOU  AND CAN NOT TURN- YOU CAN'T MOVE QUICKLY-- BUT IF YOU DON'T DO SOMETHING YOU WILL GO DOWN LIKE A BOWLING PIN.  SO I GET DOWN QUICKLY..

THAT LEAVES ME UNABLE TO STAND ON THE ICE UNTIL I CRAWL T THE NEAREST IRREGULAR SURFACE.

..IT IS ONE TIME WHEN A FROZEN PILE OF POO IS EXACTLY WHAT IS NEEDED.

 

EVEN IF WE HAD A SNOW BLOWER-- I THINK THE KENNELS WILLHAVE TO BE SHOVELED OUT BY HAND- SO I AM PLEADING FOR SHOVELS -- IF YOU CAN COME OVER AND HELP  CLEAR THE KENNELS- THAT WOULD BE HELPFUL TO MEGAN 

 

AND THE NEXT THING IS  FOR LARGE FEET  TO PLOD AROUND IN PATHS A ND TROMP DOWN SNOW SO THE DOGS CAN GET INTO THE PASTURES...

 

WE CAN TRY AND GET MARY TO DO IT-- BUT  THAT WOULD TAKE MANY CARROTS

THE TRACTOR IS AN UNLIKELY CHOICE FOT PASTURE PLODDING...

 

THE WORST DISASTER I EVER HAD  TRACTOR WAS..... IN A STORM ALL THE SNOW SLIDES OFF THE ARENA--BIG 4'  PILE ALONG THE SIDES--- I FIGURED IF I BACKED OFF AND DROVE THRU THE SIDE DOOR  FULL TILT INTO THAT PILE I WOULD BASH THRU  IT.  THAT DIDN'T HAPPEN-- I HAD MANAGED TO HAVE ALL 4 WHEELS OFF THE GROUND AS THE TRACTOR HAD TRIED TO CLIMB OVER THE PILE.

 

SO THAT DOESN'T WORK.. IT TOOK 3 DAYS OF HAND  DIGGING TO GET IT BACK ON THE GROUND.

IT SOUNDS LIKE PAUL AND EARLENE MAY BE ABLE TO GET HERE- HE SAID HE MIGHT BE ABLE TO DRIVE HER CAR-- ( HIS PICKUP IS NOT SNOW FRIENDLY)

 

CHAOS WILL BE THRILLED..  I SWEAR SHE COMES TO ME IN THE MORNING AND TURNS TO LOOK OUT THE WINDOW- WAITING FOR ME TO SAY "PAUL'S COMING--" (SHE THINKS" PAUL" IS BOTH PAUL AND EARLENE))  THEN I SAY "WAIT" - A WORD SHE UNDERSTANDS- AND SHE SITS BY THE WINDOW LOOKING.  OR I SAY "NO PAUL" AND SHE GOES AND LIES DOWN ON THE NEAREST SOFA.

BUD IS STRUGGLING - HE LIVES IN ROCKPORT- PROBABLY NOT MAKE IT.

ALL THE REPORTS I HAVE FROM PUPPY MINDERS HAVE INDICATED MOST WILL RETURN THEM ON MONDAY  AND HAVE ENJOYED THEM..

WITH THE EXCEPTION OF OLIVER-- WHO WE THINK WAS NEUTERED- I HAVE NOT BOTHERED TO RESEARCH THAT -- OTHER THAN TO SAY IF HE IS NOT NEUTERED HE HAS ONE UNDESCENDED-   IF HE IS NEUTERED, HE HAD " ONE LAST SHOT" OF LIVE SPERM STILL THERE..   THAT WHOLE BIT BECOMES ACADEMIC-- IF WE DO   NOTHING WE WILL FIGURE IT OUT IN  63 DAYS.

 

AT BEST SHE HAS A WIERD CYCLE.  SO I HAVE MY DOUBTS.  BLOODLINE WISE IT IS NOT A BAD CHOICE  EXCEPT OLIVER IS ALSO HUGE  I WOULD HAE BRED HER TO BENTLEY WHO IS SHORTER-- BUT OLIVER IS VERY ACCEPTABLE... HE IS A  L A R G E DOG

THIS IS PUMPKIN  AKA PRIYA--

Priya is fitting in nicely...I cannot go anywhere with her coming to find me! Very cute...We are officially bonded, I think.
Listen to this : Kiki gets home and says we have to have rules....first one priya not on couch, ever!!!! An hour later, I came into room and they are BOTH SNUGGLING ON COUCH!!! "I couldn't refuse, she wanted to be up there so bad. As long as she is not in bed, we are ok...Later , we got ready for bed. Priya followed me. I put her outside, but then decided to put her new rug on floor next to bed. I went to bathroom, Kiki to bed and priya to rug...when I came put f bathroom, got into bed and KIKI AND PRIYA WERE BOTH THERE!!!i I tried to have her leave, but she jumped back in and curled not little ball. We all slept!! The next night she just came to our bedroom, waited for us to get in, then jumped up and curled up.... She is now a "bed dog". OY..;)=

we are snookered in. " we"  being blue gwen and greg  - and hilary in the guest ouse

with  medicine or weather,   there are times when you say to mommy nature "have at it"----  actually you say a lot of things.

 

greg fought the good fight and finally decided if you can't even drive thru it you can't plow it... he had the driveway opened to the barn for a while... 

 

the best piece of equipment to deal with this storm is the keurig coffee maker..  the camera people have been most generous  so we have enough coffee to keep us entertained for a few days.

 

once it quits then we can evaluate what to do next.

 

the tractor can  go thru a lot bucket by bucket-- i think plowing with it is out..

 

hilary is in the guest house with a bunch of dogs- we have  the remainder here...

 

there are 15 families with dogs-- some with several- and i am anxious to get reports about the sleepovers.. i will pass those on as they come in..

 

and i am going back to coffee drinking
