Hallo, jetzt muß ich doch mal schreiben und ein riesen Lob und Anerkennung und Respekt dem "Service Doc Projekt" geben. Ich Ich sitze hier in Deutschland vorm Rechner und habe jeden Tag die Entwicklung Eurer Welpen, und der anderen Hunde verfolgt. Ich kann nur sagen Respekt!!!!!!! So viel Liebe, wie den Hunden gegeben wird, einfach toll. Ich bin mittlerweile ein großer Fan von Doggen geworden. I recently had surgery and can't put in words how helpful Manny has been. We have been together now for over a year and obvious to all the bond we have developed. Manny "works" daily with me and it's been priceless to watch him learn on his own & develop more & more abilities to assist me. I've fallen several times and Manny is always there to help me up. He watches me constantly & responds quietly to all my needs. He shows his loyalty, love and service ability daily. Manny is a good boy, friendly & considerate to all people & other animals. Even during "playtime" he is at work. What great top notch training was given to my gift, my companion, our Manny!! See you all soon for a visit.

Then She asked me to spoon fed the pimentos in the nutt house and to show them how to crawl in and out the dog door

Got back to the farm and dropped everyone off at the house and I went to park the van and head home
But I realize Carlene's doggie bag is there
I go back to the house to put it away and Mary= the donkey- hits my arm and I drop the to go bags
I pick them up and walk in the house to find Opal on the couch bleeding with Carlene, Tracey and Megan
I offer to drive Opal to the vet, off we go, Vet has to knock her out to stitch up her foot
Carlene and I sit on the floor in the vets office to hold Opal until she wakes up
Sat on the floor he says?
Yes long story I say
Opal wakes up and we go back to the farm
And then you head home, he says?
Nope, I figured I might as well do a puke check on Ginger
No puke, I'm leaving

Then I remember I have my doggie bag from Cheesecake Factory and I said to him, hey you can finish my salad there's your supper!
So I go open the bag.....it's not my salad, it's your pasta dish! So blame Mary for that one! Enjoy my salad.

After I finished telling him my story I realize how ridiculous the whole thing sounds,

that was about it.-- i only have a few comments to add...

the puke check turned up -after extensive inspection and tactile observation.. grapes

so i emalied a few people that had been here since Monday and got a response from bob saying the dogs had got into the trash on Monday which involved grapes

 so i marked that puke problem as solved.

opal's foot-- same injury as willow's a week ago-- after being in the "A" field...( about 4 or 5 acres with stream etc..) after moaning about trying to find a sharp rock in a stream... being the math type and having studied statistics.... the probability of 2 dogs hittin the same rock in the muddy stream was unlikely--- so i started with where do they put their feet? and took a look at the gate to "A" which they jump on whe we go to let them out... and BINGO 2 huge nails sticking out right where they would paw the gate. i can not immagine who would pound in those 2 nails and leave 2" of nail sticking out but -- i am willing to bet that is the problem.

 so bud fixed that and we should have a walk around..

to be a successful farmer/animal manager you must have superb powers of observation...

i have not been outside enough...

the pimentos in the nutt house-- have by all appearences so far been very happy there- maria checked them every hour or so overnight and they are sound asleep.. we will bring them in for breakfast-- but they seem to love it out there.

 next problem is -- can i get the camera out there??

it may involve unplugging it- and plugging it back in so i will do that when explore tech is up and around ( noonish)

Many of you know Susan's delightful mobility dog , so I thought I
would share a rather remarkable incident. Last week I became
awkwardly and painfully pinned between my power chair and the toilet
unable to move. I called out to Susan for help, but she was at the
opposite end of the apartment unable to hear me over the TV and she
was on the telephone with a good friend. Maude barks when someone is
at the front door, but stops when instructed to do so by Susan. This
time she continued barking until Susan stopped her phone conversation
and followed her to me.

Although she has had extensive training, her actions in this case were
not part of that training. Her intelligence and love for me,
apparently caused her to do what she did. I now look at her with
different eyes.

MOST CRITICAL--IT WOULD NOT WORK WITH EVERYONE....

ALSO MAUDE HAS BEEN THRU THE PANAMA CANAL MORE THAN ONCE ON A CRUISE SHIP..

WHEN HE GOT HERE - HE WAS PROBABLY STIFF FROM THE CAR RIDE BECAUSE WHEN HE GOT OUT OF THE CAR- A LOOK WENT AROUND WITH THE BOARD MEMBERS WHO WERE STANDING HERE-- "OH NO.. WE CAN NOT HELP THIS GUY"

BUT THEY STAYED OVER IN THE GUEST CABIN- AND MARIA AND I WENT TO THE FAIRGROUND WITH HIM, HIS WIFE AND A PUP-- THINKING HOW ARE WE GOING TO BREAK THIS TO HIM...AND HE STEPPED OFF WITH CONFIDENCE ( AND A PUP THAT REALLY WAS NOT ALL THAT WELL TRAINED.) THE 3 OF US FOLLOWING BEHIND ALMOST HAD TO RUN AND CATCH UP - OR HE WOULD HAVE BEEN IN NEW HAMPSHIRE.

MAGIC DOES HAPPEN. AND WHEN IT DOES YOU HAVE TO GO WITH IT. SO THE PLAN IS TO BRING THE PUP ALONG AND LET THEM TAKE HIM/HER FOR THAT PORTION OF TRAINING THAT IS JUST MILES OF THE "ONE STEP" AND COME BACK FOR MORE TRAINING OFTEN WHEN THE CABIN IS AVAILABLE.. I THINK WE SHOJULD GET THE PUP THRU THE ADI PUBLIC ACCESS TEST BEFOR THEY TAKE HER.-- AND SHE IS NOT FAR OFF IT NOW.

THE BAD PART? I THINK THE PUP IS NOT A YEAR OLD YET-- AND ADI SAYS...........

WELL THEY SAID STUFF WITH MAUDE TOO..

MANY OF THE GOLDENS AND LABS DON' T EVEN START TRAINING TIL THEY ARE 18 MONTHS OLD -- THEY LIVE WITH PUPPY RAISERS...

somebody wants an accounting-- and so you should--it is a lot of money you are giving sdp- and somebody asked exactly what the heat and food costs

WHO WAS NOT ON CALL BUT SHE HAD HIS NUMBER-- HE MADE SEVERAL SUGGESTIONS THAT HAD NOT WORKED- SO WHEN I CAME ON THE SCEENE ALPHY WAS VERY UNHAPPY AND LYING ON THE SOFA IN THE TV ROOM. AMID A COLLECTION OF DUNKIN DONUTS SUGAR PACKETS. . APPARENTLY THAT IS A CURE I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF-

 IT HAD MADE THE SOFA AND 4 PEOPLE A VERY STICKY MESS AND ALPHY WAS STILL THE PROVERBIAL "MARSHMELLOW THRU A KEYHOLE" PROBLEM

I GOT GEORGE ON HIS CELL- HE ALSO SUGGESTED SUGAR...TRANQUILIZER WHICH WE HAD LEFT OVER FROM THE NOSEBLEED PROBLEM-.. AND SAID IF THAT DIDN'T WORK - IT WAS OFF TO THE EMERGENCY VET IN ANDOVER...

BULGER ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN ANDOVER -- IS A VERY NICE EFFICIENT VET HOSP OPEN 24/7 - AND YOU GIVE THEM YOUR CREDIT CARD WHEN YOU GO IN THE DOOR.

GWEN ( BLUE GWEN) AND MEGAN HAULED HIM OFF TO BULGER WHERE THEY PUT $2500 ON THE SDP CREDIT CARD-- AND ALPHY'S PROBLEM WAS RESOLVED 3 HOURS LATER WITH BEING ANESTHESIA HE RELAXED ENOUGH-- AND THEY PUT IN ONE STITCH SO IT WOULDN'T COME OUT AGAIN... APPARENTLY... HOPEFULLY

OH GROAN...

IT IS A RELIEF FOR ME TO REALIZE THERE ARE CAMERA PEOPLE WATCHING THE PUPS ALL THE TIME.. IT IS ALSO A PROBLEM WHEN SEVERAL GET CONCERNED ABOUT SOMETHING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT AND IT IS HOURS BEFOR I CAN LOOK IT OVER AND RESPOND.

THIS MORNING I HAD 4 EMAILS FROM CAMERA PEOPLE WHO WERE CONCERNED ABOUT THE PUPS.

REST ASSURED-- I WATCH THESE PUPS AND THIER RESPONSES PRETTY CLOSELY- THE WAY THEY REACT AROUND SOMEONE WILL TELL ME MORE THAN AN EMAIL COULD.

FIRST REPORT FROM ALBERT

Well Our first day was very exciting and surprising, we had an car accident (nobody hurt), we found a great walking trail, Casper made his first poopy where he was suppose too, no pee or poop accidents last night, he didn't sleep with me on the bed, we went and walked around town and the park, he sleep on the floor, and he didn't chew up the house even with the combat boot I gave him he seemed to like his stuffed animal. I am very pleased with him!!! Today we are going to the mall (because it is raining outside). That is pretty all we have planned, he is really not use to the vehicle thing...I think he feels out of place. he doesn't lie down or look out the window just moves back and forth. So I think we might drive around a little more and see how he acts.

just when you think the news can't get any worse... it does

i hate to think we had "just " an explosion-- but the texas town has not only an explosion- but one that ruined the air quality- fumes that stay down instead of blowing up and away- involving nursing homes and appartment building - get all the people out and away in a cattle building - now the weather is forcasted to get nasty with lightning and a change of wind direction- so everyone has to run the other direction to escape the fumes while being outdoors in the lightning. as they await a second explosion??

 i had to end up watching the weather channel.

i remember someone came up woith the bed ad breakkfest idea for the fri/sat part... i put someone here in charge-- and promptly forgot who-- time has come to get that project off the ground before all these people book rooms.

and theresa.. that hotel on the hill-- might see what they would charge if we suggested people go there with an unknown but possible crowd of 50 ... if it was cheap enough could be more... you speak their language-- have at them... if they can match the lower price of the motels down the pike it would be a good deal.. and teh closest hotel

you would think i knew their name... well.... it was ferncroft and sheraton.. and i did hear it is now another. othere than conventions it is usually empty.

AT THAT POINT I REALIZED - THIS WAS NOT A DOG-- IT FILLED UP THE BACK OF MY VW AND WAS MUCH BIGGER THAN ANY DANE I KNEW-- AND IT HAD HAIR.--- I WAS NOT SURE IF I WANTED TO DRIVE THE CAR WITH THAT THING IN THE BACK...

IT TOOK A WHILE FOR ME -TO DECIDE TO DRIVE- BUT I GOT IT HOME-- THEN I CALLED THE ANIMAL CONTROL- AND WE DECIDED IT BELONGED TO A GUY WHO HAD JUST MOVED IN FROM CALIFORNIA-- AND IT WAS INDEED A FULL WOLF- NOT THE NORMAL KIND-- DARN THING WAS THE SIZE OF A BEAR. IT DWARFED MY DANES.. EVEN IF IT WAS 1/2 HAIR.

 ANY RATE HE SHOWED UP AND COLLECTED HIS WOLF -HE EXPLAINED HOW IT COULD GO OVER OR DIG UNDER ANY FENCE HE HAD SO FAR CONSTRUCTED--

HE EXPLAINED "IT IS ONE OF THE JOYS OF OWNING A WOLF"

i can think of nothing amusing about sneezing, coughing, and whining- which is where i am at--( at which i am?)

unless you are a mythbuster-- they did a wonderful show on how far can you sneeze -- with mouths full of blue or red ink- they came to the conclusion that a mustache inhibits the flight somewhat. but the record was 17 feet.

also in that show they did a dinner party as a germ passing activity-- just handing the salt and pepper managed to contaminate everyone at the table..

I KNOW WHY THE DR.GAVE ME THESE PILLS- THE THINGS ARE SO UPSETTING TO MY STOMACH THAT BY MAKING ME WORSE I AM BOUND TO FEEL BETTER WHEN I STOP THESE.

PROBELM 2 IS I HAVE TO TAKE THEM ON AN EMPTY STOMACH- AND IF I HAVE MY WAY... MINE NEVER IS...

PROBLEM 3 IS I NO LONGER CAN GET TO THE RESTROOM THRU THE OVERFLOW ROOM, BECAUSE THE SLIGHTEST DELAY OF AN OVERTURNED BOX- CAN CAUSE A TIMING PROBLEM.

THESE DOXY PILLS ARE UPSETTING... I UNDERSTAND SOME OF THE PROBLEMS WE HAVE HAD WITH THE DOGS AND DOXY

i am still sick and not getting nearly enough sympathy..

how sick? well becky spent the night and thinks i should get some cough codeine-- the pups didn't keep her awake... i did

the good news?? i lost 4 pounds already..-- i have a new exercise program-- it is called coughing.

to he!! with lifting barbells-- this coughing is exhausting too.

the only semi intel\ctiual concept i can share today is----- i know why people are watching our explore cameras.. they are cheerful and pleasent----. having been housebound for 24 hours with a tv set... i went thru the channels up to the 900's and what a miserable selection murder,mayhem rape,war, bus collisions, train wrecks, korea , tornados , and congress arguing about what they will not discuss.

now there is a fascinating topic.

then i got to wondering.. since i was born (1937) what is the % of years at war? ww2, korea,vienanm,iraq,afgahn

another 24 hours of being cooped up and i may have that figured out.

I WAS DOING PRETTY WELL FOR A WHILE- THEN I CLEANED MY DESK - I AM SURE THAT IS WHAT DID IT.

IT CAME ON WITH THE TERRIBLE BATTLE I HAD WITH THE COMPUTER ON TUESDAY TRYING TO FIND A PERSON'S PHONE NUMBER

CAUSING ME TO CLEAN OFF MY DESK ON WEDNESDAY

THAT DID IT.

NOT GOING TO DO THAT AGAIN

BOTH VERY COMPETENT BUTTON PUSHERS- TRIED TO MAKE THAT DVD /TV WORK AND BOLDLY PUT IN THE DISC OF THE SMOTHERS BROTHERS-- IT PLAYED THEIR INTRODUCTION DITTY OVER AND OVER FOR ABOUT 20 MINUTES BEFORE WE SHUT OFF THE SOUND. FINALLY WE PUT IN THEIR SECOND DISC- AND THAT PLAYED...

I ENJOYED THEM-- THEY MADE GOOD MUSIC-- GOOD COMEDY- UNFORTUNATELY MOST OF IT WAS VOICING THEIR OPPOSITION TO THE WAR IN VIETNAM- AND MANY OTHER THINGS....SO THEY GOT FIRED FROM THE NETWORK.

the funny - but significant story of the day is ...how much dO YOU TRUST YOUR DOG?

 

i know this hippa bit-- so i will not use the person's name-just the dog-Charlie... CHARLIE'S OWNER a veteran HAS SOME kind of seizure disorder which causes him to fall - then become disoriented and recover and stand up all in the course of 2 or 3 minutess.

well ----he was in walmart with his wife- and she was standing in line to checkout when he fell- causing the usual commotion- she turned and looked- and saw that charlie was on the case- and opted not to loose her place in line - she let charlie handle it.

funny story... but it is amazing how being independent is such a joy to those who might loose it.

jpcelyn aka57 fell near the barn and using teal she got herself up and the grin on her face was infectious we all cheered.. the sequence of the shots is on mark's shutterfly for last sunday.( try photos off our web-- photo's # 24-25-26)

i keep thinking we have been lucky to land these dogs where they do so much good... with 50 out working------ maybe it is the concept that is good

(that requires less ability on our part.-)

 we are now going thru the app file and trying to figure out which dog would work best where---- i wish we had a hundred dogs to choose from- truth is we have- in the current year 26 dogs "on the ground" starting with maybe 2 or 3 next month... thanks to annenberg foundation we can grow that even further next year... hopefully.

which brings up "who next?? " merlow and scarlott would be ideal with either walter or yellow with merlow --- and bentley with scarlott.

*all of which brings up th e next problem--housing?? we are used to the problem of heat-- and spring and summer are no relief from houseing worries because of mosquitos-- can almost be as big a challenge as heat...

my solution has been to use a big fan to blow air ( and bugs) out of the dog houses into a net-- and we catche 1000% more mosquiitos than the $500 whatever it is called.. i have one in the corner of the garage-- i gave it away twice and people keep giving it back to me. anybody else want to try??

i would swap it for a 2' diameter net any day of the week... couple coat hangers and $6 worth of fine net and you have a deal

speaking of ecological problems someone should tackle-- i bought some pills at costco yesterday- a 6 week supply-- all fit in a 1"x2" tall bottle -- tiny things-- and the trash created filled a scrapbasket--

i was annoyed-- but someone else will have to tackle that one.

great excitement-

i finally located my 3rd set of long underwear- it was filed with the turtlenecks.. you needed to know that?

well, the problem was making too quick a judgement.. things are not always as they appear--- and in this case that thing hanging down off the shelf was not a sleeve, but a leg- i finally-- having exhausted all other possibilities--- resorted to look.-

an obvious fault in my investagatory process.

the school in no hampton-- what delightful bunch of kids- we ( ann jackie,murphy,bentley bailey and i) were there at 1:30-and talked and answered questions til 2:45.. i did not catch who the kid was that was managing us-- but i noticed-- such poise and careful efficiency i have not seen in a 13 year old ..we apparently were part of some project she was writing up-- like service dogs in general- she totally lacked "fluster" even when the elevator malfunctioned she was cool. i was impressed.

i was also impresed with murphy-- it was his second time on a leash and he was nonplussed. very pleased with himself he walked thru a big crowd and allowed them to worship him.

 bentley and bailey were- of course perfect too

becky and beth are fitting together very well and by doing so are offering help to another vet with- what i hate to admit - are the usual collection of post war problems.

then steve and charlie have reached out to another guy out their way and are going to try and get him down here. there is one more "out there" in western mass i am trying to attach to steve and charlie.

and it is raining- doesn't sound like any notable happening.. except when you have a bunch of great danes, it seems they stick their heads out, see the rain , and figure " there is plenty of fluid out there already so i will put my fluid here in my kennel."

some of it is our falut for not having better little tunnels- they are is\n a sorry state of disreapir.. the rain comes off the roof and if they don't have some protection over their heads.. they just don't go out.

 i could not figure out why the 3rd kennel in the laundry was always flooded after it rained.. ihow can i have a roof leak with a second floor of\verhead ??---and is it really yellow -- or clear?? was there a strainge wind current that blew the rain back in the doggie door??..

exhausting all other possibilities i found that the little tunnel which was supposed to be deflecting the rain off th eroof-- was faulty- therefore hitting the dog in the head when the attempted to go outside... so they just didn't.

same problem as the underwear-- my faulty investagatory process..

APRIL 8

FIRSTLY----- ALL THESE PEOPLE PLANNING TO COME HERE IN OCTOBER.. DON'T MAKE A RESERVATION YET UNTIL I GET A LINE ON POSSIBLE ACITIVITIES-- IT MIGHT MAKE SENSE TO COME IN ON FRIDAY NIGHT.-- SO GIVE ME A DAY OR SO TO THINK.

BECKY AND I HAVE HAD A BRAINSTORM...ALL THAT CRAP IN THE WOOD SHED-- I KNEW I SAVEDD IT FOR SOMETHING.

 HAWKEYE SPENT THE NIGHT ON THE COUCH-- ABSOLUTELY DISTRAUGHT THAT HIS MOMMY- HAS LEFT HIM HERE WITH ALLTHESE TINY FLEA SIZE PUPPIES.----- SOMETIMES HE WON'T EVEN LOOK AT US- BUT JUST STARES AT THE WALL-- LUCKILY WE DISCOVERED HE WON'T DRINK WATER UNLESS YOU HOLD IT UP FOR HIM-- HE IS WIERD DOG #1 -- ALWAYS HAS BEEN- HALF THE STATE OF MAIINE SEEMS TO KNOW HIM AS CAROL TAKES HIM OUT AND AROUND OFTEN-- MEGAN WAS IN LLBEAN AND HAD SOMEONE SAY "THAT'S NOT HAWKEYE"

THIS IS ALSO THE DOG THAT I HAD TO DRIVE TO MAINE THE FIRST DAY CAROL HAD HIM BECAUSE HE WAS STUCK UPSTAIRS TERRIFIED...ONCE I HELPOD HIM DOWN AND UPA AND DOWN A COUPLE TIMES HE WAS FINE... HE IS NOT WHAT YOU WOULD CALL PHYSICALLY COURAGEOUS

BUT HE IS LOVELY AND DEVOTED-- SHE IS PICKING HIM UP THIS MORNING-- HE WILL BE VERY RELIEVED.

HE WAS TERRIFFIC.

THE NEXT DIISCUSSION WAS THE AWFUL HIGH SCHOOL LUNCH-- IMOPOSSIBLE FOR HER TO EAT - NOT ONLY BECAUSE OF THE SIZE AND SHAPE ONE LOVELY APPLE THAT WAS NOT CUT FOR HER- TO THE BILIOUS CREAMED BROCOLLI WHICH I COULD BARELY LOOK AT -- LET ALONE EAT. I HIGHLY SUGGESTED HER PARENTS SEND SOMETING NUTRIOUS WITH HER BECAUSE THAT SCHOOL LUNCH WAS TERRIBLE. HOW ABOUT ENSURE-- OR PEDIASURE-- FOR A DRINK... WHATEVER..
