June 20, 2011

we have one pup--- not in trouble yet-- but needs special care.... she is working hard at nursing--- but between the bullies.... she grabs skin.... and often does not have the nipple- hence no milk.

because i am in a rush to a dr apt... i will spare you the effort to align this with any political situation  brought on by the campers who were due here yesterday-- a govt program-- not cut yet.
i couldn't figure out why they all kept asking me if i slept in the cribs/dogbeds in the t tent..

as they were loading to go... i found out it was a collection of homeless kids--- who are sleeping in motels if they are lucky-- otherwise cars.

and then i listen  to the news .

here is jody's cut and paste
**************************

from jodi
As I looked at the link you sent of the water mister, I was thinking about how hot it is here.  A mister would be nice to cool us off outside but the drought is so bad the lake near us is losing several inches of water a day.  Texas in July is 100+ degrees daily.  That is bad but without any rain and none in sight it is ten times worse.  Send us some water please.  Cinder and Stormy's stock pond at the ranch will be gone soon if it doesn't rain.  They will miss the mud.
   An observation about Great Danes:
A Great Dane could never be a first responder in an emergency.
You ask a Great Dane to sit.   They think about it.  They look up.  They look down.  They look around.  They say, "Oh yeah, sit."  Then they slowly ease their rear end down.  When their rear end is an inch from the floor they stop.  They think about it.  They look around just to be sure.  They say, "Oh yeah, sit."  They sit and look pleased.  They expect a reward.  After all they sat on command.  It only took a few minutes.
The only time a Great Dane is in a hurry is when someone enters the house.  They hurry over and knock you down.  They smother you with love.  They are great dogs, they just don't believe in hurrying unless it is for greeting guests with slobber and affection.
Thanks Carlene for the love Stormy aka Clipper gives me.  Now if you could come to this hot -- not humid, and dry heat isn't hot, you know -- Texas and train Stormy and Cinder to move a little faster I would love it.
When I ask them to close the door when they go outside, they do it so slowly we cool the backyard with the air conditioning.  Someday I will have to send a video.

so enjoy camera mark's 3 tabloos from yesterday

did i hear kieth and hattie  would be here today????  with hudson .
maybe hudson could say a small prayer for some brothers and sisters... his parents are luna and bobby
***********************

didi and karen will be leaving today 10:30 ish for upstate  new york--- she has quite a drive- but they are doing very well- she  survived a cookout at gwen's with no problem--- even with the loose dogs--  didi mostly slept-- good choice.

didi is one good looking dog-- especially in her new harness.... in teal
*****************
the number of people at that party who get this daily doggie second hand amazed me.
"can't start the day without the daily doggie" is a frightening responsibility

including a kenyon college friend who is applying? for a judgeship and talked of a 50 page application or something with 25 coppies.
with no consideration for the intellectual content all i could think of was the sheer volume of paper in our paperless society.

proving we do not really trust computerized communications yet
*******************
pups--  today looks like a nice day to have them outside for a while---so we have to rig the shade--- and maybe a fan with a "mister"( for those of you.... a mister is a great  a/c --- 3 tiny sprays of water blown with a fan --reduces the temp nicely..----- but turned on strong makes it like living in a rain forest)
***
and  bobby was successful again yesterday at filling luna  with swimmers- might try again today.  we could use more hudson's
*********
and with didi down the driveway (?our 36th service dog partnership?)
now we have to work on indy... in earnest
well actually... in malls and hospitals and flea markets..
***********
our trainers  (megan colleen and hillary) are rotating taking the 4 month old

pups home for overnights..   pi went with hillary last night.
so on we go...
**************
mark said he would be around today---

if you - mark could come round before 10 you could get some of your professional shots of didi and karen packing up for the trip....  we don't really have any of those.
******************

i think gay and heydawg  might be around too

****************************/from heydawg
Good afternoon

Did not want you to worry about Hey. Friday we went to the preview of a Kaminski auction. Not too many people but a great maze of tables and furniture to navigate. Today, we went to  a Richdale. There was the scary floor but we manage to recognize it and realize it wan't too bad, after a down and a look. Got up fine. Then we went to Beverly Airport to walk and look at planes taking off. Lots of noise but he did fine. Sunday morning we are going back to have breakfast at the Airport Cafe and then along to see you at the farm for a visit mid to late morning. Can't tell you how much we appreciate Hey and the love and trusting we have developed.

WOOF
Hey, Gay and Jerry

fyi
Beverly airport has a great Scottish farmhouse breakfast-- the restaurant on the side with the tower.
hmmmm good

July 16, 2011

pups are gaining big time-- sparkle and taupe could stand priority at the cafeteria line they are gaining slower...

born at a pound  - they weighed
one week later  2.3 ( for those of your so inclined  3 oz per day)
three days later  2.10 (close to 3oz/day)
five days later    3.10ish yup....  and they look like dogs--- belly's off the floor--- eyes open   etc....

they  need goats milk bottles regularly now
and what goes in must come out

priscilla changed all the "linens" when she left last night about 5pm
and this morning, only new orleans was worse.
***************

so this 5 year plan which michael is shaping into normal business language...
he asks me for costs of raising one pup
sounds so simple
so how do i calculate
4 new glass cases for tom( their favorite chew toy)
3 sneakers
7 buckets of laundry soap and a huge water bill
along with vitamin pills
and puppy food ( now up to $40  from $22)
***********
that is as bad as asking how often the board meets-
answer to that is--- as often as we offer to feed them??
board meetings are when people sit on chairs with no one smiling and  theresa reads off papers .

i tried to slip by an advisory board which is anyone at the Sunday stew who has an opinion about anything.....along with this daily doggie incoming advice

this 5 year plan on paper is the same as when  shelia battered us into all those exit signs on the tent so we could be nationally accredited...

and the problem is-- they are all right--  which is a very inconvenient distraction.
***************

in the meantime... we have donated 6 dogs this year so far
and i know we could have doubled that with a bit more paid help

but that  does not sounjd "business like"  dammmmmm

************

so--- today schedule

bottle feed the pups.. cut some grass-- go somewhere with didi. 10:00  .play with numbers here about noon  and go to gwen's party about 4:00

******************quincy katie is behind me as i type

she will be taki9ng gigi  home with her for a few days

i offered her 3 or 4 more--- but she said just gigi

********biggest news
along with the 30 cc's of bobby we put in luna... he put 20 minutes worth in her himself---
i am sure they were also red--- but swimmers--- so it is only a maybe situation.
********************
and chaos is fattening... and slowing up

jody ... on taxes

When you made this comment I smiled!
THAT THE CHURCHES ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF TAXES-- LIKE FIRE DEPARTMENTS-- YET PAY NO TAXES...

I was going to add a comment about churches and taxes but thought I better not.  Someone might think they should grab me and baptize me out of my blasphemy.  I keep wondering why churches are allowed to have political candidates speak on Sunday mornings at election time and how they can support issues when they don't pay taxes.  In my opinion, if they don't pay taxes, they don't have a say in things.  But then the Supreme Court will probably rule that churches are people, too.  Doesn't that give people in a church two votes each??????????

July 15, 2011

didi and karen are doing well--- she is choosing to be with karen instead of me--- now as soon as she prefers karen to megan  we will have it made
tomorrow my daughter ( who's avocation is cooking)  is throwing a cookout--- so karen and i can make the sacrifice of going to her place for party practice with didi  --- such a sacrifice

3 neighbor's kids were here hanging  ( ADULT TYPE KIDS  WHOHAVE VOLUNTEERED BEFORE)  AND GOOD OLE PI GAVE THE "WHO ARE YOU GRUMBLE/WOOF"  IT WAS NEARLY 6 MINUTES BEFORE SHE CLIMBED IN THEIR LAPS-

THE TYPICAL DANE "GOT TO THINK ABOUT THIS" ATTITUDE... AS OPPOSED TO THE GOLDEN RETRIEVER "WHOEVER YOU ARE JUST PAT ME"   THIS CONCEPT THROWS OFF SOME TRAINERS.  THE TYPICAL DANE GRUMBLE WHILE BACKING UP IS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT FROM THE  PRE-BITE GROWL OF THE NORMAL DOG.......  IN MY OPINION...

********************ON THE TOPIC OF BITING....... THERE IS MARY...  IF SHE IS GOING TO START BITING PEOPLE HER LIFE AROUND HERE WOULD TAKE A REAL CHANGE....

SHE BIT LORI YESTERDAY--- NO BLOOD TYPE BITE--- BUT NO FRIENDLY NIBBLE EITHER.
WHEN I WENT OVER THE DETAILS  ----MARY WENT TO LORI'S  CAR WHEN SHE ARRIVED AND GAVE HER THE FRIENDLY NIBBLE/NUDGE  SEVERAL TIMES BEFORE THE  BITE...
LORI HAD STOPPED BRINGING MARY A TREAT BECAUSE SHE (LORI) FIGURED MARY HAD TOO MANY LAST SUNDAY .. THE WAY I SEE IT--- MARY WAS NOT WITH THE DIET PROGRAM AND WAS ANNOYED- SHE ASKED FOR A TREAT SEVERAL TIMES--- AND WHEN LORI DID NOT PRODUCE ONE  SHE GOT ANNOYED.

SHE BIT JANINE ABOUT 8 YEARS AGO FOR THE SAME REASON- JANINE GAVE PONY RIDES ON MARY AND THEN JUST DROPPED HER WITH  NO TREAT--- MARY HAS BEEN SPECIALLY ANNOYING TO JANINE EVER SINCE--- TIPPING OVER JANINE'S WHEELBARROW-

ALL  SHE NEEDS IS SOME RECOGNITION--- A PIECE OF BREAD--- OR BAGEL -- OR CARROT
AND I DON'T THINK SHE WOULD BITE--- BUT YOU ALL ARE ON NOTICE  SHE HAS BECOME MORE DEMANING.

I DO HAVE A FRYING PAN I COULD SNAP ON HER TO FEED HER--- AND THAT MIGHT NOT BE A BAD IDEA
SHE DOES HAVE THE STRONGEST LIPS OF ANY EQUINE I HAVE EVER SEEN. SO IF SHE MISCALCULATES WHEN REACHING FOR A CARROT SHE COULD GET A FINGER... SHE NEVER HAS--- BUT THE POTENTIAL IS SURE THERE.-- SHE HAS PICKED UP A 100 POUND BAG OF GRAIN AND TOSSED IT LIKE A FEATHER

*******WITH THAT IN MIND DO NOT EVER FEED HER A CARROT AND HOLD THE OTHER END WHILE SHE BITES THRU IT... YOU MUST  PRE BREAK THEM - OR GIVE HER THE WHILE CARROT.
************
BACK TO THE DOGS
I ALMOST WENT "TO BED" INSTEAD  OF "TO RECLINER" LAST NIGHT-- BUT AS I WAS TURNING OFF LIGHTS- OLIVE SAT DOWN TO FEED THEM --- AND SAT ON 4 AT ONCE--  I DO NOT KNOW HOW THAT WOULD HAVE WORKED OUT IF I HAD NOT BEEN THERE---  THEY WERE ALL TANGLED IN THE SOFT CAFETERIA DEPARTMENT--- BUT IT SURE LOOKED UNCOMFOTABLE TO ME IN THE BREATHING CATAGORY.

I DID LEAVE A DISH OF FOOD--- DRY FOOD--- FOR HER LAST NIGHT--- SHE - LIKE MARY - HAS AN OPPINION THERE TOO------ "WHERE'S THE CHEESE"  IS NOT A QUESTION I  WANT TO ANSWER WHEN SHE POKES HER COLD NOSE IN MY FACE AT 2AM.    SO HER OVERNIGHT FOOD IS ONLY THE DRY.
*******************

we have 30cc of pink swimmers from Bobby inserted in luna  --lori helped-  education is a wonderful thing.
luna is not young--- she is in good shape except for a bit of arthritis--- making the pre-motherhood activity a bit too much  for her-  i would not be breeding her except it is really a "last shot" for any bobby pups because of his medical complications. ------swimmers should not be in a pink solution....
i did manage to video the last drop on the microscope   -- to verify the swimmers---

megan reported bobby is peeing yellow again... this is progress--- it was green/brown---
hey ----you like the details----  that could be a significant one.
*********************

normal day  - somewhere with karen/didi-- maybe early lunch??? like the bev hospital  in danvers   11:00 if anyone would like to join  us  and back here to meet with Michael on the 5 year project--- at 1:00

***************
janine said today  the weekend rollerblading group will be in boston..
apparently it is a group of about 100-- i would love pictures of that winding thru traffic --- if any of you see the group-  they do a city a month-  interesting....
***********

gladys sent this one--- and it is a great concept   lets all look for one of these in the junk yards/craigs list/etc
 we could do this...

July 14, 2011

lean forward- was stuck on my tv screen this morning while the  TVstation had a fire alarm-  that is as good a suggestion as any

gay and heydawg got "APPROVED "AT  that HR meeting

extremely interesting--- they  had advice from their attorney  which was legally correct--- ON PAPER---the 2 questions ---do you need the dog because of a disability  and  what work is the animal trained to do...

per ADA  THAT IS ALL THEY CAN ASK--- AND THAT IS ALL THAT IS ON THE PRINTED PAPER THEY GAVE HER--

THE  PROBLEM WAS... VERBALLY  THEY ASKED ALOT OF THE QUESTIONS BENT ON INTIMIDATION.   -- REQUIRING MEDICAL REPORTS FROM HER DR-  AND TRAINING REPORTS FROM SDP...  INCLUCING HEALTH CERTIFICATES ETC.

I HAD DUPLICATED THOSE EXACT TOPICS FROM THE ADA--- AND LEFT THEM WITH THE 2 WOMEN -  EXPLAINING I WAS NOT AN ATTORNEY  BUT  SUGGESTING THEY REVIEW THEM WITH THEIR ATTORNEY.
THERE WAS ALOT OF  LANGUAGE ABOUT HR APPROVING THE ACCOMODATION OF A SERVICE DOG..  TO WHICH I CONSTANTLY SAID- THERE IS NO ACCOMODATION-- JUST IGNORE THE DOG.

i had given them a copy of heydawg's adi  public access test with the always --sometimes  never  rating--- and the one thing i had rated "sometimes" was the down command--- because with a service dog --- down means find a place to get comfortable--we are going to be here a while"  it is not the obedience show dog "down " which means "drop.. now"
one of these HR women wanted to be sure i was still working on that--- so i explained  very politely.....

I ALSO HAD BAILEY WITH ME--- BEHAVING PERFECTLY- SNORING SLIGHTLY AS THEY WENT THRU THEIR "MUST BE UNDER CONTROL" SPEECH.

I BEHAVED AS WELL AS I COULD.
IT WAS NOT EASY.
********************

LEANING FORWARD

KAREN AND DIDI ARE DOING VERY WELL  WE HAVE GONE THRU THE "HOW TO OPEN A DOOR" KIND OF THING---  WORKING FORWARD TO THE GEROGETOWN TOWN HALL--- WITH IT'S FLIGHT OF STAIRS.

didi is doing considerably better with the"A BIG TURCK IS PASSING US"  SYNDROME.

THEY ALL HAVE SOMETHING---

GAY ASKED IF BAILEY HAD ANY SQUIRRELEY THINGS-- AND I SAID NO--- WITHOUT THINKING TOO MUCH--- BECAUSE HER BLUE EYES WERE CERTAINLY A PROBLEM WHEN SHE WAS A PUP.
EVERYBODY  --- INCLUDING GEORGE--- WOULD APPROACH HER-- LOOKING  HER IN THE EYE WHICH IS AN AGRESSIVE APPROACH TO A DOG--- AND SHE USED TO GROWL-- TOOK A WHILE TO "ACHIEVE BOREDOM" ON THAT ONE.

****************
AS FOR  THE 5 YEAR PLAN--  i have a little construction CONVERSATION  to tackle first

I REALLY NEED TO TALK TO JEFF MASTERSON ( who gets this ... i think)
we should  "remodel" the deagle house- so we can make use of that hill and 4 acres
it will involve a few trees... big ones... oak and pine  ... the kind i had a portable sawmill  slice into the lumber for the t-tent-
seems a shame to split and burn the nice straight oak--

I DID LEARN THAT PUMPING CEMENT UPHILL IS ONLY AN EXTRA $682 FOR 4 HOURS.

****************
I CAN NOT REPORT ANY SUCCESS WITH BOBBY AND LUNA
YET..      CLOSE BUT NO CIGAR???... YET....
*************
Just wanted to let you know I have Crimson for the night.  I wrote it on the board in the barn.  She does very well we went for a walk in the cemetery she heals very well loose leash,  I unhooked her leash and she was healing perfectly i think not knowing she was off leash.  We ventured out onto some main streets and she had very little reaction to the traffic. We went for a fairly long walk she does not seem to get tired. She does well on her recalls too. So far the perfect dog.

from jodi  (TEXAS)
On asking HR.  On any asking.  I just don't do it.  I just bring the dog and then deal.  It seems to work better that way because the dog behaves.  They can see it behave.  Also, about 90% of the time, the problem I thought might happen doesn't.  Sometimes if you don't anticipate a problem it won't occur.  Just my philosophy.
You do have to ask if you are going to a church.  They have the right to refuse a service dog.

*************
BOY COULD I GET GOING ON THAT ONE************
I AM ALREADY ANNOYED THAT THE CHURCHES ENJOY THE BENEFITS OF TAXES-- LIKE FIRE DEPARTMENTS-- YET PAY NO TAXES...

A BUNCH OF MOONIES BOUGHT A CHURCH IN GLOUCESTER AND DECLARED THEMSELVES A RELIGION.

BOY DID THAT SCREW UP GLOUCESTER FOR A WHILE.

July 13, 2011

another one of those fantastic announcements-

megan got a tetanus shot after cutting her finger.

doesn't sound like much---for a person who will get knee deep in any disaster to be reduced to knee shaking terror by a needle was unbelievable.

the rest of that story is that-- she came in dripping blood  from her thumb and after great concern bud/polly and tom wrapped it up in a bandage which incorporated a spoon-  tom said she really ought to go to the hospital and have someone look at it.  in the meantime hold it over her head to reduce pressure.

right.
so as she was wandering around with thumb raised high........
i was handling the bABY PUPS with their needle toenails and one ripped a chunk out of my leg-- spurting red blood down my leg.... very similar in quantity to megan's thumb
for that  tom suggested i put a bandaid on it.

case closed?????
*************
back to work....

karen and didi are doing fantastically-- didi has the picture that karen is her person ---- and also her meal ticket.

we wandered around the mall-- then lahey elevators-and cafeteria where didi just flattened herself for a good snooze amid all kinds of people asking questions..
karen said that  would work really well in her classroom.

she studied the trucks very closely on rt 95  but made no attempt to get in the front seat.. karen drove 40 mph so we could get the full effect of trucks passing.
***************

no word from gay's  HR department yet.
gay said she did not ask.
allison said she did not ask

maybe asking was a poor choice- we should hear today...
i know they have been shell shocked by that white shephard that is very poorly trained-- if at all...

could be it is like dealing with the planning board in a small town.
********************
the usual today--we will go somewhere while theresa is here with the pups-
*************
and prisciulla did a bunch of rice and hamburger for olive....who's poops are much better-- what is a daily doggie without some excrement comment
****************
i slept in the chair again-- within earshot-but not visual--- and olive only woke me three times- twice  to go out- and once to stand in front of her food dish and look pathetic..  3 cups of food went down really easily.

and pups are on 4 oz  goats milk split between them-- twice a day
*********
venting---aol is driving me nuts---

i went to "my account"  and was shocked to see i had the $14 plan-- because for 12 years they have been charging $21-
the reason they gave?  there  is a $7 charge for paying by check.

bless that small print---

and paul came in and ( i think) fixed it so i have email at aol for $1  which they will refund next month.
at any rate ( literally) the email service has been dreadful with partial screens jumping around--- and the NOT RESPONDING, bit where you can not get any reaction in the screen- often resorting to unplug and plug in again.

i am having large computer problems
so i do not like aol
so there.

July 12, 2011

short doggie

karen has arrived and i left her sitting on the sofa with didi

didi wasn't sure at first-- but several liver treats and they are best friends.

should work fine today
probably going to   quiet mall   then  lahey ( to fix my hearing devices..)
****************
gay... how did you make out with HR???
karen said she did not ask--- she told them she was getting a service dog--. she has a class of special ed... so we have some extra prep to do

the problem  which i expect gay to have is HR will have a fit.  there is- what they are calling a serv dog at the college which is dreadful- an aggressive white shephard...i do not know who trained it.--  and i be HR doesn't know they can ask her to leave the dog home..  but because of that dog  hr may have a problem with "accepting " anotehr
maybe the college can't ask questions--- but i can-- like who trained it??

somnehow i am expecting a battle
************
megan... i hope you did get a tetanus shot---
she was not using cardboard for collection--- and cut her hand badly

eyes opening  teal-- and thomas

priscilla reports the pups can screama-- she said olive sat on one overnight and it made a lot of noise so olive moved...

let us pray-- we can not keep up the 24 hour watch

July 11, 2011

i am very excited to have found a new toy
funny little plastic THINGS in which i can boil eggs

perhaps not all of you know ... fact... you can not boil and peal a fresh egg
to peal easily they have to be at least  10 days old

not a big thing in everyone's life,,,,,,  but all i have is fresh eggs.
********************
couple more logical facts

george (DVM) has been great in staying in touch with our "birth mother"

i was prepared to be flattered until i found he was sitting in a boat  at 5am somewhere studying loons--- and thought of us.
**************
olive is gettting easier to understand-- last night she began the "i am unhappy" routine-- and i thought - as i often say about animals-- first do the normal housekeeping things-- check water--food--bedding--temperature   surroundings--
we were failing on several--  water spotless and fresh-- but she was starving--- did not matter when she was fed last - she ate about 5 cups of food rice hamburgure and cottage cheese-  and yet she stood..

so i knelt down by her pups---and the huge fluffy looked clean  but was damp-- and she was not  about to lie down in that PUPPY PEE .  so we fixed that- and while we were there arrainged a small fan to circulate air out of the a/c room to her direction--- and she NURSED AND slept til 4AM

AND SO DID I.

SOMEWHERE ALONG IN THERE WE GAVE THE PUPS 2 OZ GOATS MILK
THAT IS 2 OZ BETWEEN THEM-- THEY REALY CLAMP ON THE BOTTLE NOW  SO IT TAKES ONLY ABOUT 15 SECONDS FOR THEM TO GET A 1/2 OZ.

THAT WILL SLOWLY INCREASE TIL THEY GET 4 OZ PER PUP-- BY THEN IT IS SOLID FOOD TIME.
**************
DIDI'S POSSIBLE PARTNER COMES TODAY-- AND I DID HEAR THAT MEGAN/HILLARY  CLEANED THE GUEST HOUSE---
I HAVE WARNED HER THIS IS A SELF SUFFICIENT ESTALISHMENT.

BUT--- WE HAVE ALOT OF FOOD LEFT OVER FROM YESTERDAY--
WE HAD OVER 30 PEOPLE HERE--- YOU COULD ALMOST CALL THE T-TENT CROWDED..
ESPECIALLY SINCE WE HAD TROUBLE KEEPING MARY OUT.

WE WERE DOING VERY WELL-TIL SHE SNUCK AROUND BEHIND THE TENT-- VERY INNOCENTLY EATING GRASS THERE... UNTIL SHE REACHED OVER THE FENCE AND RAN OFF WITH THE CONTAINER OF PLASTICWARE....

AN IQ TEST--- AND SHE IS AHEAD OF US.
***********************
WE HAD ALOT OF LOOSE DOGS WHICH WAS NICE-- WE CHOSE THEM CAREFULLY BECAUSE KATIE AND JADE WERE HERE--
AND LORI GOT OUT HER PAL BOBBY-- WHO WAS PERFECTLY BEHAVED-  AS WAS PI---AND INDY WAS WITH BUD2 DOING WELL.
STILL WE COULD HAVE HAD THE WORLDS BIGGEST DOG FIGHT
***************
WHICH BRINGS UP A TRAINING TOPIC--- SORT OF...

I WANTED A PICTURE OF ALL THE MATCHING "TUXEDO DOGS-
AND MEGAN DID GET A FEW WHICH I WILL PASS ALONG WHEN SHE GETS HERE--
THE PART SHE DID NOT KNOW IS AFTER MY STANDING SAYING QUIETLY STAY..STAY..STAY
 YOU DO NOT SAY OK
THAT WOULD CAUSE AN EXPLOSION AND A CERTAIN DOG FIGHT JUST BECAUSE OF THE EXCITEMENT.\

IN MY PREVIOUS EXISTANCE (ANIMAL EPISODES) I DID A SHOT LIKE THAT IN DOWN TOWN NEWBURYPORT FOR A PET STORE AD-- 34 MISC  DOGS LOOSE-- NO PEOPLE ( IT WAS BEFORE FOTOSHOP TOO)
I CHOSE FARM DOG TYPES WHO WERE NOT OBEDIENCE TRAINED--- BUT EDUCATED...
***********
I HAVE THE PROOF IN MY OLD PORTFOLIO BOOK
******************
BACK TO OUR T TENT-

IT IS THE PERFECTLY BEHAVED BAILEY WHO NEEDED TO BE MONITERED... SHE WOULD LOVE TO START SOMETHING.

JUST LIKE MARY WITH THE TABLE WARE-  AS GOOD AS SHE IS... SHE IS A TYPE  -- FEMALE DOGS ARE WELL NAMED  ... B/TCH.

***********
I WILL BE GOING OUT WITH GAY AND HEYDAWG-- ALONG WITH KAREN AND DIDI  THIS WEEK..

COUPLE DAYS WITH KAREN- THEN GO FOR LUNCH WITH GAY AND HEYDAWG WOULD BE A GOOD EXERCISE.

Good morning Carlene,
Boy you gave us a workout yesterday! We,Hey and me and Jerry, are doing so much better walking with along with a loose lead. Your patience, support and stamina, and energy (like a 11 year old boy entering puberity), is awsome.
We are staying home to catch up on home stuff today. Perhaps we can try a go at Beverly Hospital in Danvers (after I'm ok'd at the college) for lunch this week?
Again, we thank you for your support and dedication to all of us.
Woof!!!
Hey, Gay and Jerry

?ENERGY??? TOOK 4 EXCEDRINE TO RECOVER FROM THE MILES I WALKED WITH HER

July 10, 2011

JADE AND TRIBE WILL BE HERE ABOUT NOON--- I GOT THIS MESSAGE

Hey Carlene,

We are aiming to be up your way at about noon and we have a small army joining us. We are bringing hamburgers, hotdogs, a salad and desserts. See you then!

-Jade

SOUNDS PERFECT-- SEEING AS I HAVE ONLY SOME LEFT OVER HOT DOGS --- -- JADE'S MOM IS A "FEED THE TROOPS" TYPE   PLUS EARLINE IS IN HIGH GEAR WITH SOMETHING CASSEROLLEY

THE DAY IS SUPPOSED TO BE PERFECT---   THAT BEING THE CASE ... MAYBE IT IS TIME TO MOVE THE LITTLE PUPS DOWN TO THE "GRANDCHILD PEN"  ( THE ONE I MADE TO PROTECT MY GRANDCHILD FROM HAPPY DANES.)
IT WOULD MEAN EVERYONE COULD BE DOWN AT THE T TENT  WITHOUT HAVEING TO WATCH THESE PUPS HERE.

I THINK IT IS TIME WE STOPPED THE 24 HOUR BIT-- A HEAVY DECISION TO MAKE  BECAUSE SHE COULD STILL SIT ON ONE-- BUT WE HAVE NEVER WATCHED THIS LONG-- USUALLY IT IS ONLY 3 OR 4 DAYS TIL THEY GET BIG ENOUGH TO SCREAM'
THESE PUPS CAN DO THAT...  AND MOM IS ALERT AND FEELS OK..
ANIMAL RAISING IN GENERAL IS A GAMBLE
SO IF WE MOVE TO A "WITHIN EARSHOT" PLAN...... IT SHOULD BE SAFE-- AND ALOT MORE COMFORTABLE

MIND YOU THEY ARE GETTING FUN TO WATCH---

MOM FEELS FINE NOW--- BUT YESTERDAY SHE HAD  WHAT I NOW CALL "THE SATURDAY ILLNESS"--
LOOSE STOOL--  VOMIT--- STAND AROUND AND DROOL--  WHICH IS EITHER  AN UPSET TUMMY OR A POSSIBLY LIFE THREATENING BLOAT - REQUIRING SURGERY-
IT HAPPENS ONLY ON SATURDAY OR SUNDAY-- AND MOST OFTEN AT 2AM-

WE RAN HER TO DAH ( DANVERS ANIMAL HOSPITAL)  AND DR.SMITH WAS ON  - SHE WAS IN TOTAL SYMPATHY WITH THE POSSIBILITIES-- BUT SHE DECIDED TO PUT HER ON FLUIDS AND ANTIBIOTIC AS WE HAD DONE 10 DAYS AGO WHEN SHE HAD THE  "I CAN NOT STAND UP "    DISEASE .

COULD BE OLIVE ONLY DRANK OUT OF THE POND-- WHICH DOES FLOW--- BUT NOT READILY.
IT BEING SATURDAY I FIGURED I BETTER GET A BETTER LINE ON WHAT EVER WAS HAPPENING.
SHE GAVE US 2 BAGS OF FLUID AND SENT US HOME-- PRISCILLA BENG AN RN HAD THE PLEASURE OF ORGANIZING THE DRIP.
IN MY EXTENSIVE VETERNARRY EXPERIENCE I KNOW YOU MAKE "SUB Q " LUMPS ABOUT THE SIZE OF 1/2 GRAPEFRUIT.  SO WE DID THAT.
SHE DID GET A PICTURE OF THE DRIP RUNNING IN AND THE PUPS DRAINING MILK OUT.
**********************

LAST NIGHT PAUL AND EARLINE AND I SAT ON THE FLOOR AROUND OLIVE'S BROOD...AND ATE OFF PLATES ON UPTURNED COSTCO BUCKETS  --  CHINESE FOOD WITH THE PUPS-
I BET IT WAS A FIRST...
******************
TRAINING WISE-- WE INHERITED A COUPLE RELATIVES OF DAVID'S TO HELP WANDER AROUND WITH THE 4 MONTH OLD PUPS..
WE  "HAVE MILES TO GO BEFORE WE"    ...GET THEM TRAINED.
THEY ARE STILL IN THE FIGURE 8 HARNESS-- AND GETTING USED TO THE LOOSE LEASH BIT...

PI --- HAVING HAD MORE ATTENTION,  HAS PROGRESSED TO THE ORANGE  HORSE HALTER ROUTINE  AND WAS A MODEL OF VIRTUE AT THE HOSPITAL.

( HARDLY A HORSE HALTER--- PROBABLY A MINI HORSE HALTER)

SPEAKING OF THAT MAYBE TODAY I CAN GET JASPER AND NOEL  IN HORSE HALTERS WORKING  TOGETHER--- AND FINALLY USE THAT CART I BOUGHT FOR BOBBY.  BESIDES THAT WOULD WALK 2 DOGS AT ONCE..

BOBBY HAS THE  "SOMETHING IS CHASING ME"   PROBLEM--- AS ALL HORSES DO-- AND I DON'T HAVE BLINDERS FOR HIM-- MAYBE JUST TRY ANOTHER DOG--
JASPER AND NOEL NEED THE WALKING WHILE DRAGGING NOISY TIN CANS---- WHICH A VOLUNTEER USED TO DO--WE CAN FIND SOMEONE TO DO THAT TODAY. THAT IS HOW CART TRAINING STARTS

JADE AND ARMY TODAY--- SOUNDS GOOD

AND TOMORROW  KAREN ARRIVES FOR TRAINING WITH DIDI  WHO'S ONLY NEUROSIS AT THE MOMENT IS "BIG TRUCKS PASSING MY CAR" SYNDROME.
I SWEAR THEY ALL HAVE SOMETHING WIERD-

ANN WAS HERE YESTERDAY WITH KARMA STORIES ABOUT KARMA GETTING IN THE SHOWER WHEN IT THUNDERS.  SHE ALSO BROUGHT BANNANA BREAD--  PEOPLE WHO KNOW US WELL, KNOW THAT THERE ARE SLIM PICKIN'S  AROUND HERE.

I THINK WE ARE EVEN OUT OF BOTTLED WATER

BUT WE HAVE SOME LEFT OVER CHINESE FOOD...

July 9, 2011

it's saturday--  all day --- priscilla was here all night-- bless that nurse training
there are a bunch of things about nurses that make them a perfect sdp volunteer.
odd sleeping hours is only one-
being part of a working system---communicating essentials on a white board --- putting things back to wherever they got them is another-- sometimes that is not where things belong--- which is probably me...
****************
yesterday i met with gay and heydawg-- he is doing great  but  poor gay---  we gave her heydawg in the midst of confusion --- and i never really spent time with her--- she is lacking the usual 5 days here-  simple things like who will go out a door first--- she didn't know you just say whoa and he stops- you go thu then tell him to walk thru.  she was stuck tryng to control this 160 beautiful dog with her muscles ( not too many--- he is much stronger)
but he is educated---  we walked the halls of the main  beverly hospital-- and he did fine--  he will also tell her he would prefer to walk on the carpets--  and there wass a time  when he dropped --- so  you have to let him get his bearings then tell him to get up and move on... and he does it... it is impossible to pick him up-- he is huge-- but he gets up willingly if you just give him a minute...   it is about a 5 second halt-- it is just something they can work out-- it is a very controlled maneuver and being totally dedicated to her--- he is listening to her exceedingly well when he has the collar and harness on-  with the rope around his neck he is just a regular dog--overwhelming her-big time/.

also make note--- all you people with strange equipment ( head halters gentle leaders and the like)-i watched carefully as she put  on the harness and chain collar-- he very willingly stuck his head out for both -- ( i do not approve of those gentle leaders if you can't tell)

it was a big lesson for me-  and it is no problem for me to meet her  every day-- especially in the middle of the day-- and go somewhere-
so gay--- where do you want to go today???? let me know
you are not up to a train ride yet--- but eventually we can do that.
****************
these pups ae growing like weeds-- so the bottle is less of a game and more of a get some food in them.  there are 2-- the black ones-- who were either full or didn't like the fake nipple... watch that today..
****************
this 5 year plan   of
how can we...   what the deuce can we...  what happens if....
and my casual-- hang in there approach....

deb moy called last night-   talk about ridiculous situations... her job  is again trying to keep a group of 16 teenagers from getting arrested for the summer..  it is a ?state job-- and even has a bus to carry them around.... or something...
did i have any work???   a one day a week work???  big storng nice kids - just full of potential of good and bad... i said i would find something-- last summer they moved the teepee---beautiful job... needed doing...  lots of horsepower there...

this year--- there is all that chain link that janine found and brought home--- there are rolls of it all over-- heavy duty.. 8' tall  and i do not know how long because it is too heavy for me to unroll--- and too messy for me to wish on any volunteers-

but deb's bunch-- want fresh air-- we got that-- and they are strong-- and can learn to  use a come-along  as we tighten the fence into sections.
i will have to buy the pipe etc--- but an 8'section of that is over $300  and with all these pups----it could come in very handy
not for me to question why

certainly it is useless where it is now
especially since i don't know where it all is-- some is holding down the skirt of the arena--- but it is all over.
i could have shot janine when she brought it home--- it took 3 days to get it out of the trailer -- all those little hooks grab the next piece big time-- but it is in rolls now.

i 'll have to buy pipe and those funny little hooks to secure it... but the fencing..we have- job today is locate all the rolls.  i had them along the fenceline-- by now all the grass/weeds have weaved their way all thru them  making collecting the rolls a huge problem itself. --- tractor time

and with all these pups... we'll need.
******************
deb(moy)  what happened to that guy in your last year group  ??victor?? if he is on the unemployed list... i might want to know that... he lived with his grandmother who was very old ( 2 years younger than me)
 i was impressed with him.
******************
v2 reports that arrow had some ailment that sounds just like what olive had
not eating --- then weird rear end for 2 days-- then fine.

drives me nuts

July 8, 2011

don't expect too much today--- i was puppy sitter last night-

i had an email about going to lunch with heydawg and gay -- sounds like fun-- beverly hospital here we come.--gay  11:30  ish???
come here -- or meet there???

that is the place where   --- the first time i went there to practice elevator training  the receptionist told me i couldn't come in--- and then alerted security that "i have some nut in the lobby who wants to train her dog in the elevator"

minus the rest of the details it is a very funny statement.

pups are getting bigger--- big time-- and are nearly self sufficient-- they still slip between the folds of the blankets-- and occasionally get behind her- which can be dangerous--- but at some point we have to let olive deal.

a nerve wracking decision.  luckily the next 24 hours are covered.

we have to get prepared to redo all this in a couple weeks for chaos
*****************
businessy type meeting with ann's husband - michael-- to pick over  my 5 year plan--and promises comments in a few days-- then to send to fred for more thinking.

it was a bit of a shock to him that to even think of five years away, i have to think of breeding details now-- in other words the process has started.  i would not think of trying to breed luna right now--- except it could be our last "shot" at bobby--- who george says should be neutered because of all his internal problems.
**************
one gap in the planning is the process from inquiry-- to application --to interview--to training visit-- to going home with a dog.
problem being that between dealing with animals and humans the process can be interupted at any point for a variety of reasons,

my classic example is the woman from Alabama who sent us all the paperwork and the video---and it all looked good-- except when she got out of the car 6 months later, she had gone down hill and i knew in 30 seconds  that a dog would not work for her.. but we tried--- and a month later sent paul and earline  down to alabama to pick up a very confused dog- and deal with a  very annoyed person.

i should have had the courage to tell them to get back in the car and drive 1300 miles home again.
that is one reason we have said "north of the hudson river" and karen is next--- just beyond the hudson.

that situation could arise again--- and if anyone wants the job of figuring that out-- go right ahead---  theresa and i are stuck in neutral.

i wonder what neads does???? neads people who get this-- got any comments??

to complete your day--- here's  manny
and bernard and the pill taking problem

When" it" comes, the best place to be is at home, or the second best is to be with Manny who will understand why we are reduced to a feeble entity, not at all like the guy he signed up with.

Home Depot caught me just wanting to sit down and wait until the next dose restored us both to the dynamic and happy team  we hope people see.

I Having found a seat,Manny also found a seat and we both tried to avoid attention,at least I did. Manny being the character he is,he just continued being himself. This involves shoving his nose against mine and the giving me an enormous lick:Gazing soulfully at Matrons gazing soulfully at him

We had previously had lunch ,Manny this time was in the role of an observer and he observed very closely. He is growing and stretched out under the table he made me think of doing this more often and training him to be more responsive to getting into a space  somewhat smaller than a sprawl.I can recommend  Manny as a device for increasing the quality of service,Burness was even found something  they said the could not do and she pronounced it to be excellent.
When "it" hit me at Home Depot people were the usual friendly group and although I did not hear anything new until this guy,( was about to say old geezer until I  realized he was younger than ),said "could I give your dog a biscuit ?" As I did not know this guy from Saddam I shook my head " but thank you" I think I said.
For all I know he could be then reincarnation of St Francis or a raving loony. I assume the latter and take care of  mine. There is a group of humorists  who share a fairly small repertoire of jokes.I was coping, with Manny's help,to get out of Home Depot when one of them called me from behind. We stopped and this man's question was "Has he raced last season ?" Got to go now, Bernard

BIGGEST CHALLANGE OF THE DAY --- IS---- THERE ARE NO NAMES LISTED FOR PUPPY SITTING TODAY-- WHICH MEANS IT IS MY JOB.  SO IF YOU COULD SPEND EVEN A FEW HOURS  PLEASE........  AND THE OVERNIGHT IS OPEN ALSO...
***************************

TRAINING DISCUSSION OF THE DAY---
PI---- AT 4 MONTHS--- IS FASCINATED BY THE WEEK OLD PUPS-
MOMMY WOULD LIKE TO CHEW HER UP-- AND IS VERY CAPABLE OF DOING JUST THAT.

MOST OF THE VOLUNTEERS GIVE HER A SHOVE WITH THEIR HANDS MOVING HER BACK  OVER AND OVER AND OVER AGAIN  SO IT BECOMES A GAME FOR PI

PERSONALLY I WOULD SHOW HER THE LINE IN THE FLOOR--- TELL HER A BIG "NO"  AND IF SHE PUTS A FOOT ONE INCH ACROSS IT-GIVE HER  A NO  AND A SNAP-- NOT HARD  JUST SURPRISING  (PREFERABLY WITH A ROLLED NEWSPAPER)  ACROSS THE OFFENDING PART... HER NOSE .  IF I GOT THE TIMING RIGHT SHE WOULD REALIZE HER MOVEMENT ACROSS THAT LINE WAS WHAT CAUSED THE SNAP ACROSS HER NOSE.  IF SHE IS HARD HEADED SHE MIGHT TRY IT ONE MORE TIME TO SEE IF SHE GOT THE SAME RESULT... THEREAFTER SHE WOULD BE TRAINED.  AND IT IS NOT THE AMOUNT OF FORCE ON THE NOSE... IT IS THE SURPRISE FACTOR--  DOGS DO NOT LIKE SURPRISES.

GOOD OLD CAESAR--- HE STRUGGLES WITH ANIMAL RIGHTS AND "TOUCHING " THE DOG WITH HIS FOOT--  IF HE WOULD USE THE WORD "STARTLE"  THEY MIGHT GET OFF HIS CASE...  BECAUSE THAT IS WHAT HE IS DOING.  JUST AN UNEXPECTED  TOUCH STARTLES THE DOG BACK TO PAYING ATTENTION TO CAESAR.
THAT IS WHAT THE NEWSPAPER WOULD BE ---IF DONE CORRECTLY  PI WOULD FIGURE IT WAS THE NEWSPAPER AND NOT REALIZE YOU WERE CONNECTED.... AND HOW NICE IT WAS OF YOU TO WARN HER WITH A "NO"  JUST BEFORE THAT NEWSPAPER CAME DOWN.

ANOTHER---- I ALWAYS SAY---
YOU CAN NOT TRAIN A DOG WITH YOUR OWN MUSCLES- THEY HAVE TO CHOOSE TO DO THINGS YOUR WAY--

THE TIGHT LEASH ROUTINE IS THE SAME LOGIC.
PULLING AGAINST THEIR PULLING GETS NO WHERE--- ESPECIALLY WITH HUGE DOGS..  A YANK BACK INTO PLACE AND THEN LOOSE LEASH  MAKES THE DOG REALIZE " PULLING ON A LEASH CAN BE SCARY- SO I BETTER WALK QUIETLY NEXT TO HER."

THERE IS $5000 OF TRAINING LESSON IN THAT ONE CONCEPT.

I HAVE NO CUT AND PASTE TO FILL THIS DD..

HOW DULL

July 5, 2011

we survived the parade and collected the $750 check.

frankly--- i am totally dependent on volunteers to pull it off now --- jacky and husband-plus early sandy and relatives joined the usual bud/paul/earline crew

.  i could not  hire anyone to do the job they did--

i wonder what  sdp would have to pay someone to fill the job description  of walking 2 miles on the hot pavement while getting banged in the head by a foam carrot in front of thousands of people...
and what would osha say?

i dare say our outfit  was probably the most talked about-  the bed- in all it's tattered splender held 3 dogs  bailey--fido--
and pistol( who is here for a visit of un-determined length)  the puppy bus was full with just 2 --  charlie and xl  who loved all the attention.. didi rode in the car

i liked being near the airforce band--- but that base drum "got to" both fido and didi
bailey slept  fido tolerated.. and pistol did not settle anywhere but loved the crowd.

and then there was mary and the foam carrot swinging about 3' in front of her nose-- often banging paul in the head- he gave up trying to lead her-- and just handed out those small pealed carrots every 20 feet.  she followed-- ocassionally turning in a circle  and wiping out the crowd with that pole sticking out..

early sandy's sister had a camera and i hope sends pictures-- i bet there are some good ones-
*************
in days gone by-- we ( animalepisodes) would rush to the newspapers to see if we "made the news"  and  front page was not enough---
good was defined as "above the fold"
there were even 2 people there --- now with children... who .. as college students worked for me during my previous existence as animal episodes.
**********
janine--- one was MIKE  who suffered thru 30 days of living with the donkeys on boston common - and was in on the "antlers come off" problem you had.

we borrowed a reindeer for that xmas show in boston and were told to have the reindeer walk between 2 people with ropes- and keep the other hand on the antler.

what we were not told was reindeers shed their antlers about christmas time-leading janine  into one of her more famous "episodes " of chasing a loose reindeer thru the statehouse while the gov tried to make normal conversation on TV.

i see there is a photo history of the parade-- must be from early sandy's sister    which i will now send

click your way thru the "smilebox"
there is a clasic one of mary reaching for the bag of carrots while paul is ducking the swinging carrot

we had a good time..

aol has been out of service for the past hour

next week's baby sitting chart is up--- it is a huge help-- all organized by priscilla
olive has constant help managing her brood  24 hr
.

mark has bailed me out this morning with a tabloo of the new pups... which i will now forward  as soon as aol is back running

July 3, 2011

July 2, 2011

priscilla was here all night with the pups-- and all survived  -olive is taking motherhood much more seriously now---  doing a better job-- but also showing she is very capable of deciding who should touch her pups and who should not.  jackie and her husband were here  -- and spent some time introducing themselves--  but when he reached out-- olive said clearly--- no dice ! she did not bite- but sort of banged him in the head-- with authority.

so all be aware--- if she curls her lip--- take it seriously--  i did put up a second gate to better define her area to visiting people.

which as time goes on we may be able to get the house dogs back in the house.

chore of the day  -- find the baby bottles and the powdered goats milk- i had a can somewhere from the last episode.  we should get a better backlog-- seems to me th e vitamin store on 114 was cheaper than a case from meyenberg- which is the only mass producing goats milk i know of.  i have even tried their aggricultural  zoo package of bagged powder-- in our  world of squirrels chipmunks and mice--- the cans are better.

and get jasper and noel out -- they need personal attention-- the odd cookie here and there is no substitute for a walk in some park--- or farigrounds-- tho being both "entire"  not spayed/neutered -- and relatively untrained... you can not turn them loose any where but here.... and we can not neuter jasper until we see what kind of pups chaois has--  he is a key element to our bloodlines- his mom - luna  was deagle x tracy and his dad-- thumper..... were the jewels of this family tree.

next probable pequiliAR EPISODE- WILL BE THE JULY 4TH PARADE FOR WHICH WE HAVE BEEN OFFERED $750  FOR THE BED/DOGS  AND MARY  FOLLOWING
USUALLY A HOT DAY-- BUT IT IS POSSIBLE TO SOAK THE MATTRESS AND KEEP THE DOGS COOLER.

TODAY AND TOMORROW WE NEED TO FIGURE OUT IF WE CAN ALSO TOW THE CRIB WITH A PUP OR TWO-- AND  "CHANGE THE LINENS" ON THA FOOL BED--- MAYBE A FRESH COAT OF GOLD PAINT ONTHE BEDSTEAD TOO.

WHICH REMINDS ME   WE NEED TO FIND THE  PINTAL HITCH FOR THE DURANGLO-- THAT IS A LOOP/RING SORT OF HITCH INSTEAD OF THE USUAL BALL TYPE-- WITHOUT THAT --- THE BED KEEPS RUNNING INTO THE DURANGO ON EVERY DOWNHILL... WHICH IS EXCITING.

AND THEN FIGURE OUT EXACTLY WHAT WILL FIT IN THE HORSE TRAILER.

THIS IS A PARADE WHERE THEY DROP US AT SOME PARK LEAVING THE BED AND MARY  AND SOMEONE HAS TO GO BACK AND GET THE TRAILER

SO FAR.. EARLINE-PAUL=BUD - THE USUAL MARY CREW... I THINK JACKY LIVES CLOSE AND MAY COME TO JOIN US--  MEGAN  POLLY.. BOB WILL RUN THE FARM WHILE WE ARE GONE ---   I CAN'T REMEMBER IF ANY ONE ELSE WILL BE THERER

TIME TO SIT THE PUPPIES

and luna is cycling wierdly  so we may not have any more luna x bobby pups.
