Oct. 18th, 2011

short doggie today

mostly vanilla has learned to jump... no let me rephrase that--- climb over--- the kitchen barrier

for your education----she is a girl dog--- her male littermate does not climb over--- he hangs up half way with his back legs still inside the fence.

i think something stops him---he is a boy dog--- and he wails in complaint and needs rescuing.

************

as for dogs jumping bariers-- megan taught pi to jump the jumps in the arena

--- up to this point we could fence pi in with a knee high barrier which she would just look at.-- now she jumps them... this is progress???

the funny part is pi leaps the 18" barrier so high she would easily be clearing the 29" high counter tops.. and is soooo happy about her new ability.

great !

************

polly ran the details of mary by the office at brooksby--- like she is about a 750 pound donkey-- and they said they would like to have her come for a visit on the first floor.

this will need organization--- duct tape covering her feet/shoes -- and best thing is a pail full of carrots with the tops still on them so they are easily identified--- the person with the carrots walks behind--- and should mary lift her tail-- you drop the carrots and catch whatever happens.

we need a volunteer with quick reflexes--janine has that detail perfected---

there are very many funny stories about this kind of project

the worst being a 2000 pound draft horse on stage at the emerson theater in boston and a 5 gallon bucket PLUS my brand new ll bean jacket

**************

but i have things to do...

like educate the dogs about the wheelchair lift-er on the coa van...

pistol is getting better about the trucks on the highway --- this is not to say 100% cured--- she is achieving boredom--- but could still have flashbacks

theresa is here today

megan has short day with colleen coming mid afternoon.

and i am hammering.

2 QUICK UNCONNECTED STORIES

IN THE PAST 3 MONTHS WE HAVE HAD 2 VETERANS COME HERE - AND WHEN THE DETAILS WERE CLEAR---- THEY WERE DEPLOYED IN IRAQ AND WHEN THEY CAME BACK THEIR WIVES DIVORCED THEM

AND THE WIFE GOT TO KEEP THEIR DOG IN BOTH CASES IT WAS A DANE---

CERTAINLY DID NOT HELP THEIR PTSD.

******

AND

WHY USE DANES??

THE GUY IN THE WHEELCHAIR- AT A CONVENTION--- WITH A SMALL WHITE POODLE IN HIS LAP.--- I HAD A DANE WITH ME---

HE CAME OVER AND SAID "FIRST THEY BLOW MY LEGS OFF ME--- AND THEN THEY GIVE ME THIS DAINTY LADIES FOO FOO- I WANT A DOG LIKE YOURS."

**************

I TOLD YOU THEY WERE DISCONNECTED STORIES

***********

PUPS....

FOR SOME REASON VANILLA SPENT THE NIGHT IN THE KITCHEN-- WITH THE 2 LUMPY DOGS ---HILLARY THOUGHT SHE WAS MOVING A LITTLE SLOWLY-- I SAW NO SIGN OF THAT WHEN SHE TACKLED STANLEY---

THE LUMPS LOOK A BIT BETTER-- NOT GONE-- BUT BETTER--

********************

SHE FELL RIGHT IN WITH THE EARLY MORNING OUT TO PEE AND COME BACK TO BED FOR A COOKIE...

I DO NOT MEAN TO IMPLY THAT SHE DID NOT RELIEVE HERSELF AT ANY OTHER TIME---

WE NEED NEWSPAPERS LEFT IS CERTAIN PLACES IN THIS HOUSE WHERE THE FLOOR TIPS IN AN UNPLANNED DIRECTION... NAMELY IN FRONT OF THE OVERFLOW ROOM AND FRIGE...

NEXT HOUSE I BUILD WILL HAVE A PLANNED TIP

MAYBE NOT AS TIPPY AS THE NUT HOUSE- WHERE YOU CAN BARELY SET YOUR COFFEE DOWN ON THE FLOOR.

SOMEONE SUGGESTED ALL WE NEED ARE MIRRORS FOR A REAL DIZZY SPELL.

************

JACKY AND HUSBAND MARK WERE AROUND YESTERDAY TO NEARLY FINISH THE SECOND LAYER OF PLYWOOD FLOOR..

MARK HAD A VERY DIFFERENT CONSTRUCTION METHOD. HE MEASURES THEN KNOWS IT WILL FIT.. ------I SAW AND WAIT WITH GREAT ANTICIPATION TO SEE IF IT FITS.,

************

AT ANY RATE WE ARE READY TO EXPERIMENT WITH THE FLASHING BETWEEN WALL AND FLOOR

FYI---- THAT NICE TIGHT ROLL OF METAL FALSHING IS VICIOUS ---

CUT THOSE RESTRICTING TAPES AND THE ROLL UNWINDS IN A SPECTACULAR FASHION--- WITH IT'S SHARP EDGES...

A LEARNING PROCESS

********************

STEWING TODAY--

TODAY IS IN PREP FOR CRAZY HAT DAY --- NEXT SUNDAY--- EARLY SANDY AND THERESA HAVE ALOT PLANNED-

I KNOW BECAUSE 2 HUGE BOXES OF DONATED POTATO CHIPS HAVE ARRIVED---

ALL I AM RESPONSIBLE FOR IS AN IMPROMPTU $100 CHICKEN RAFFLE JUST FOR THOSE PEOPLE WHO PAY $10 TO COME IN AND HAVE A HOT DOG

that is not to be confused with the on going puppy food raffle - i hope it may prove to be an introduction to the monthly online raffle.

************

IT IS WONDERFUL TO HAVE PEOPLE COME PLAY WITH THESE PUPS-- SO I CAN DEAL WITH HAMMERS AND NAILS...

I HAVE A NASTY FEELING WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET MANY MORE DAYS LIKE THIS--- AND WE BETTER GET THE NUT HOUSE WEATHERPROOF.

there are a lot of pups to keep warm.

reminder--- go do the online thing --- we are slightly behind statistics for November's "pooing"

like NOW

THIS COULD BE A VERY BAD DAY

AOL HAS SEEN FIT TO SEND ME A "WORD OF THE DAY" AND TODAY'S WORD IS regurgitate..

WITH 30 ODD DOGS ON THE GROUND- THIS COULD BE A VERY MESSY DAY.

WHATEVER--- BRING IT ON...

****************

ALSO BRING ON ALL THE PEOPLE WHO BAIL ME OUT- PREFERABLY SOME LIFTERS--- DARN PLYWOOD GETS HEAVIER EACH DAY

***********

THE STOVE ARRIVED WITHOUT INCIDENT--

LORI AND MEGAN WERE HERE TO HELP- WE WORKED PERFECTLY TOGETHER--- THEY WORRIED AND I SAT- ON THE TRACTOR

POINTING OUT ONCE AGAIN- ONE CAN ACCOMPLISH AMAZING THINGS IF ONE HAS THE RIGHT EQUIPMENT.

IT IS IN A BIG BOX-- CLEARLY LABELED "MADE IN CHINA"WHICH MADE ME THINK.....

I CERTAINLY AGREE THAT MOVING ALL THOSE JOBS TO CHINA IS A VERY BAD THING--- EXCEPT IT ALSO MOVES ALL THE POLUTION TO CHINA .

I AM TOLD THEY DON'T GIVE A RIP ABOUT THINGS LIKE TRASH AND POLUTION. I HAVE SEEN PHOTO'S OF THEIR DUMPS- EVEN I WOULD NOT VENTURE FORTH.

WITH THE PREVAILING WINDS IT IS ONE MORE REASON NOT TO LIVE IN CALIFORNIA- BECAUSE AIRBORNE POLUTION ALL COMES OUR WAY ANYWAY.

***

GEORGE MYERS CALLS THIS DD MY SEMI AWAKE RAMBLE- OR SOMETHING

CERTAINLY TRUE TODAY

********

I WROTE UP 3 OF OUR "GRADUATES " STORIES AND I THINK THERESA FILLED OUT THE OFFICIAL PAPERWORK FOR TOH - KARMA, ARROW AND VAYLU- ALL PAIRED AND WORKING BEAUTIFULLY-

WE HAVE 4 MORE THAT ARE A LITTLE OUTSIDE THE STRICT GRANT PROVISIONS ..

I SPOKE TO MARK (TOH) WHO SAID LOUIS WOULD BE IN TOUCH WITH US- AS OUR CONTACT----AND THAT HAS NOT HAPPENED YET- SO I AM OPERATING WITHOUT DIRECT SUPERVISION .

I AM MAKING DECISIONS BASED ON THE 2 APPLICANTS THEY SAY THEY WILL SPONSOR ALREADY.

*********

FOR INSTANCE--- BUD2 SUGGESTS WE DO THE GASTROPLEXY WHEN WE HAVE THESE PUPS SPAYED AND NEUTERED-- HE HAS A GOOD POINT- AND WITH THE HELP OF TOH'S MONEY WE COULD DO THAT.

I KNOW GEORGE WILL BE AS KIND AS HE CAN--- BUT HE DOES HAVE TO RUN A BUSINESS-

************

TRHERESA IS LINEING UP All that- and we will need "recovery room" sitters-

----for those of you new to this DD--- if at all possible i do not let a pup wake up out of anesthesia without someone on the floor at their head----

just another of my neurosis--

we had a perfect dog "brownie" who was visiting in penna and needed surgery on his tail- and came out of anesthesia in a cage- banging his head repeatedly as they all do - ever since the slightest metal noise would panic him-- a garbage can lid was the worst--- i do not want to take any chance on that again...

so if you can sit with pups let theresa know... i don't think she has a date yet-- but we have a bunch to do-

***

starting with crimson -- charlie and teal- the three headed for a specific person so far- it is tough to line up the personalities until they get a little older.

charlie seems to love little kids and we have an interested vet with 5 kids-- we do not have any paperwork on him yet-- i hope he is a serious candidate because for once we may have a logical pup. and charlie is a big boy .... big time.

***********

no cut and paste-

brooksby village has asked if we could bring mary in to their "senior residence"-- which of course - we could--- would be fun and interesting--- a few details to work out-- like she will not fit in an elevator--- unless they have a frieght elevator i don't know about. when they asked, i am not sure they know she is a mammoth donkey and not one of those cute little mini's

PRISCILLA'S HUSBAND IS RECOVERING FROM TRIPPLE BYPASS -- BEING AN RN SHE MAKES IT SOUND A BIT MORE USUAL THAN IT SOUNDS TO ME...

Oct 14th, 2011

"OH LOOK THEY HAVE LEARNED TO PEE ON THE PAPER" !!

NOT REALLY--

I HAVE LEARNED TO PUT THE PAPER WHERE THEY WILL PEE ANYWAY.

ESPECIALLY WHEN IT IS RAINING

TO FURTHER STUDY THIS PROJECT... AS SMALL PUPS JUST A FEW DAYS AFTER THEY GET ON ALL 4 FEET, THEY LEARN TO GO AWAY FROM THIER "NEST" TO RELIEVE THEMSELVES-- POLITE SOCIETY- WHO HAVE STUDIED THIS-- HAVE SAID IT IS THEIR INSTINCT TO KEEP THEIR BED CLEAN-

I HAVE STUDIED IT TOO--- AND I THINK IT IS SO THEY GET OUT OF REACH OF MOMMY WHO WILL FLIP THEM AROUND WITH HER NOSE TO CLEAN THEM UP.

WHATEVER...

THAT IS WHY AT A YOUNG AGE WE MAKE THE FLOOR SURFACES DIFFERENT--- A FLUFFY FOR SLEEPING AND A THIN BEDSPREAD FOR TRACTION TIL THEY CAN PROGRESS TO NEWSPAPERS..

BY NOW THEY ARE IN THE PROCESS OF LEARNING THE WORD "OUTSIDE" SPOKEN AT VARIOUS VOLUMES

******************************

RAINING WILL COMPLICATE THE DELIVERY OF THE CAST IRON STOVE BETWEEN 2 AND 5 THIS AFTERNOON--- AND IF ANYONE IS AROUND THAT THING WILL BE HEAVY--

IF YOU ARE NOT AROUND--- PRAY THE TRACTOR AND BUCKET ARE WORKING.-

OTHERWISE THERE WILL BE ALOT OF EXPLAINING TO DO AS TO WHY WE NAVE A POT BELLY STOVE IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRIVEWAY

ALSO PRAY THE TRUCK HAS A TAILGATE THAT LOWERS HEAVY THINGS.

CAST IRON DOES NOT BOUNCE.

**************************

TIME TO NAG ABOUT BUYING A BRICK FOR THE CHICKEN POO RAFFLE

TO FURTHER YOUR EDUCATION..... WE DID APPLY FOR THE YEAR'S RAFFLE PERMIT- APPARENTLY SUCCESSFULLY-

NICE GUY AT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE " DAN" STRAIGHTENED OUT 27 PAGES OF PRINT THAT EXPLAIN THE DIFFERENCES

BETWEEN BINGO AND RAFFLE

YOU ARE ALLOWED TO HAVE ONLY 3 BINGO GAMES A YEAR- AND UNLIMITED RAFFLE GAMES

SO THAT IS WHAT WE NOW ARE-" CHICKEN RAFFLE"

AND I HAVE CHANGED ALOT OF THE WORDING TO ADD A SPRINKLING OF THE WORD "DONATION"

DAN THOUGHT IT WAS A FANTASTIC CONCEPT BUT WAS NOT TOO SURE HOW LEGAL TO HAVE A CHICKEN DO THE DRAWING...

HE ALSO ADDED TOWNS ARE DESPARATE FOR MONEY SO WE CAN NOT ASSUME THEY WILL NOT CHASE US-- THO HE THOUGHT HIGHLY UNLIKELY.

****************************

WE ARE TEETERING ON THE BRINK OF UNFINISHED PROJECTS---

THE NUT HOUSE- OF COURSE--- I AM OUT OF PLYWOOD--- BUT THERE ARE DIDDLY THINGS I CAN WORK ON-- INSIDE...

***********

WE ALSO STARTED SAVING PLASTIC BOTTLES TO PUT IN THE SWIMMING POOL FOR THE PUPS TO PKAY WITH.

CONSEQUENTLY WE HAVE CONSIDERABLE COLLECTIONS ALL OVER OF POLAND SPRINGS BOTTLES....

WE MUST GET CONTROL OF THAT.

************\

AND ONE OF THE FOUNTAINS STOPPED WORKING AND BUD PULLED IT-- WE REALLY SHOULD GET THAT FIXED BEFORE WINTER--- IT IS JUST SITTING... AROUND...

***********

THE POWER CHAIR- JOY STICK IS DEAD--- 499 FOR A REBUILT ONE--- AND I THINK- NO- THERE ARE INTERESTING ONES ON CRAIG'S LIST- BUT WE REALLY DO NOT NEED ONE AT THE MOMENT- AND CAN MAKE DO WITH THE GOLF CARTS IF NEEDED. BATTERIES ARE GOOD.. ?KEEP THEM?

**********

*DRY WELL IS DUE TO BE OPERATED ON ?NEXT WEEK??

************

THE PUPS ATE THE MATRESS TO THE BEAUTIFUL CHILD'[S ( ILLEGAL SLATS ) CRIB -- NOTHING LIKE A HOUSE WITH A TORN UP MATRESS ON THE PORCH

******************

AND WE HAVE NEWSPAPERS--- NEARLY AS MANY AS PLASTIC BOTTLES--- THE PILE IS GROWING AROUND THE FIREPLACE--- AND WE SOON WILL NEED TO USE THE FIREPLACE---WE NEED TO TRIM UP THAT EPISODE.

***************

AND MORE PAPERWORK FOR TOWER OF HOPE APPLICANTS-- I NEED A PICTURE OR TWO

****************

SO THAT IS THE DAY'S SCHEDULE

AND MY NOSE IS RUNNING.

SO THERE !

NERVOUS BREAKDOWN #386

ANN CALLED WITH KARMA THROWING UP.

WHICH IS SOMETHING DANES DO FAIRLY REGULARLY-- EXCEPT WITH BLOAT HANGING OVER YOUR HEAD-- IT IS A TOUGH CALL WHETHER TO GO TO THE VET WITH THEM- she did go...

a bunch of pills later the decision was that she had eaten an acorn or mushroom or something.

*************

in the medical venue- we took 3 skin problems to george yesterday

mark is covered with bumps- sammy has a few-- and tucker has a messy goop on his shoulder-

puppy strangles was mentioned-- that is just an unfortunate name-

strangles in horses is just a bad cold sort of thing-- passed aroundd in horsey gatherings-- like the slaughter pens from which janinie gets these horses quarentined in our barn... ?same bug?

why tucker would have that goop--- in the exact spot 2 others have had in the past 2"x3" oval on is shouldder very near where we put the frontline-- and vacines- neither of which they have had lately-

megan set to shampooing the pups-- soaking them wrapped in towels in the warm sun-- a very poetic scene with both earline and ann swaddling pups

i took a picture..

our own intensive care department

the pups are acting better today-- they are certainly cleaner

i wasn't sure if mark's appearence was due to Monday's oatmeal bath- he looked like someone forgot to rinse him-- he looks better today.

it's always something

if it ain't ants, it's fleas-

***************

gay came to pick up heydawg- who was thrilled to see her-- i was a little worried because he spent his 4 days here standing in the middle of the living room staring at the door- depressed- big time- i worried - but when gay came he bounced around and leaped in her car "let me outta here"

*****************

MY SISTER FRAN ARRIVED LAST NIGHT FROM COLORADO- FOR THOSE OF YOU WHO HAVE NOT MET FRAN-

, she is extremely competent -and accomplishes great things-

except her vocabulary lacks "hurry"-- she doesn't even do "quick" -

"rush" is definitely out of the question- she is imperturbable

the family has known this for years-

she stops before she does anything--ANYTHING-- which can get carried to the extreme.----- opening the car door is a 12 minute process..

but she has far fewer accidents than i do..

**************

plan of the day

pulling together the rest of the tower of hope applications-

they are not insisting on iraq veterans-- so we have a few more to include.

put up 4 sheets of plywood on the nuthouse-- it is fairly rainproof now

paul got up drip edge and we have rolls of black stuff to go on next.

when theresa is here we can run to costco-- well--- if fran is going with us it will be a saunter to costco.... to do george's office shopping.

****************

cutting and pasting

Bill had another Hert attack Tuesday morning. Transferred to Lahey Clinic for Angiogram. Showed previous stents have failed and is a canidate for bypas surgery if he can be cleaed medicaly. Metting with cardiac surgeon Wednesday morning. If oked they will do sugery Thursday. Will keep you up dated. Everything is stable at present . Priscilla

Oct. 12, 2011

this puppy run megan does about 3:30 every day is delightful- she jogs from the barn to the house with 7 chaos pups paddling along as fast as they can go behind her.

i think time has come to deviate from that pattern and stop in the grassy area for a call by name cheese break.. so we get the behave in a group yet come when called instilled in their heads.

things are never simple--- that means megan should clear away the small area mary( the mamouth donkey) uses as a rest room..--

she only goes in 3 places on the farm-- and the dogs know it-- when mary wanders over to one of these places a dog often follows her with great expectations of a fresh salad course. -- or as they say in winter--- poopcicles

*****************

puppies--- these pups--- and adults for that matter ---do not enjoy any rough housing-

Saturday a person was here who trains dogs commercially in the area-- i told him they didn't like rough play- and he was one of those people who wanted to prove me wrong and gave yellow a rough head shake-- yellow backed away confused with hurt feelings...

he was a case... i asked him not to put his fingers near mary's mouth- and he immediately said "i know all about horses" - and stuck his fingers in her very powerful lips---while i am standing there saying "don't do that - we don't want to encourage her". he had no idea what i was saying.

i saw it yesterday clearly defined.

crimson has been openly friendly with everyone--

yesterday - time to feed--- megan called her toward the barn and she jumped to run to her--- someone else took that enthusiasm for wanting to play roughly- and made one of those gottch moves at which point crimson ran back to the tea tent and would not run past him to get to the barn.. it was a simple thing most dogs would react positively to that fun game--- not so with 99% of the danes i have known.

also tug of war is a megan and my project. a confused 180 pound dog who is confused about when to pull and when to let go could make for a lot of bruises

******

so i repeat myself--

these pups are not to play the typical gottcha-- charge and attack -- football stance type game--- and get ready for me to explode if i see anyone trying to prove me wrong.

there is a definite line between that gottcha "attack" stance and playing tag with a toy in the pup's mouth--- the toy in the mouth- they understand-- they do not understand why anyone would attack them without the doggie language that precedes it .

I tried this morning with chaos-- 2 empty water bottles walking toward her banging them together and then jostling her head with them-- and she clearly did not understand-- and slink ed away

eventually these dogs have to learn to be bored - try it with bailey and she will just look at you" you must be nuts"

in their formative stage we do not want to confuse them-- a confused dog can not learn.

****************

today will be lift and carry day

it is supposed to rain the rest of the week.. got to get the walls up

in preparation i have put on my back brace ( aka tight blue jeans)

my knee is better--- i bought that glucosimine-condroitne stuff fido recommended-- must be very powerful-- it is sitting on the counter and my knee is better- i didn't even have to take any.

************

large excitement yesterday

bob was screwing the second floor down and spilled his soda- AND IT RAN TO THE EDGE AND DOWN TO AN EXIT HOLE... i was thrilled.

mind you the floor is so tipped it does make you dizzy until you get used to it.. but that is a good thing. it works.

and home depot gave us 30 feet of flooring yesterday-- in a roll--- 12 feet wide--- the building is 10' wide that will be fun...

***************

our concentration is crimson and charlie--- and we can pull teal into work mode as we start thru the batch of pups.

*************

carrie (chloe's mom) gave me a new chick supplier ideal poultry in texas-- for future reference--- next spring

We are definitely in the category of blessed to have one of the Amazing Dogs from the Farm. We take particular interest in “Pistol” since her offspring will make Chloe a grandma and we love seeing Karma a beautiful dog who adores Jim and has many of Chloe’s charming quirks. And I will also add, as I ramble on, that Chloe will not go outside in the rain unless -- she is going to explode. I have spent many times out in the rain with her trying to explain that she really ought to pee. Sometimes she gives in because I look so silly standing there getting drenched so she gives me a little “pity pee” but she can seriously go 24 hours waiting for a dry spell – it’s amazing.
***********
and spot and allison
Hi Carlene,
Spot was great on our trip! She had no problems at all with the planes or TSA. Going down, the crew was really nice and moved our seats to the bulkhead which was in business class, so we all had lots of room. Going home, we wereon a smaller plane with a much less accomodating crew so they wouldn't let us have the bulkhead. She said it was an emergency exit row which I don't believe, but whatever. Anyway, there was a broken seat in one of the rows, so I sat in the seat that was working and Spot went under the seats in front of us. It took a little coaxing to get her to go under there but she did and didn't move the whole flight (luckily it was only an hour) until landing. She doesn't like the landings as she gets thrown/pulled forward but she's fine with take-offs.

and so it goes

also my sister arrives today--from colorado-- she will have her own car so will probably be self sufficient---

Oct. 9th, 2011

I AM NOW GOING TO LET THE PUPS IN FROM THE BACK ROOM WHICH MEANS THIS DAILY DOGGIE WILL BE MORE DISCHEVELED THAN USUAL

OPAL IS LOOKING FOR AN EXPLINATION TO LIFE IN GENERAL SO I WANT HER TO HAVE PLENTY OF PERSONAL TIME SO SHE GETS A FIRM FOOTING.

SHE ALREADY KINOWS WHEN I CALL HER NAME WHILE STAMPING MY FEET AT THE REST OF THE BUNCH IT MEANS RESPOND TO THE CALL-- NOT THE STAMPING FEET. THIS IS A BIG DEAL

AND IT COMES FROM THE SPOON FEEDING OF CANNED FOOD WHILE CALLING THEIR NAMES..

************

IT HAS BEEN A WHILE SINCE WE HAD A POO REPORT--- BECAUSE EXCEPT FOR THE FEASTING ON MARY POO-- THE PUPS HAVE BEEN CYLINDARS !!!

ONE COMMENT ON FOOD--- TWICE IN THE LAST MONTH I HAVE HEARD OF DANES WITH DIETARY PROBLEMS WHO ARE ON THE HOLISTIC/NATURAL FOR LARGE DOGS.

THIS CAUSES ME TO WONDER--- IF THAT IS TRUELY A BETTER FOOD FOR DOGS- I WOULD THINK PURINA WOULD-- WITH ALL THEIR R&D - MAKE IT - AND CHARGE A FORTUNE FOR IT...

AND I AM NO FAN OF PURINA-- THEY HAVE ALWAYS REFUSED TO HELP US WITH FOOD. BUT I HAVE TO ADMIT THEIR HIGHER END "PROPLAN" WORKS WELL-- THE "DOG CHOW" DOES NOT PUT ANY POLLISH ON A DOG.

SO WE FEED COSTCO AS HAS BEEN ROCOMMENDED BY A VET TYPE FRIEND- AND SO FAR SO GOOD.

I KNOW I SHOULD NOT TEMPT FATE.

ALSO-- DID I READ THAT COSTCO HAS OVERTAKEN WALMART IN SOMETHING... LIKE TURNOVER OF MERCHANDISE???

AND I THINK I SHARED THE FACT THAT THE LITTLE STAR IN THE UPPER RIGHT CORNER OF THEIR PRICE NOTE MEANS THAT THE ITEM WILL NOT BE REORDERED...

WE NEED A COSTCO TRIP THIS MORNING #1 EARLINE IS NOT HERE TODAY AND WE SURELY WILL STARVE WITHOUT HER HELP UNLESS WE GET SOME PREPARED DISH FROM COSTCO.

#2 ALSO COSTCO HAS THE 4 X 4 CARDBOARDS WHICH WOULD HELP WITH CUTTING THE ANGLES ON THIS TIPPY NUTHOUSE-- THERE ARE VERY FEW RIGHT ANGLES-- SQUARE CARDBOARD PATERNS WOULD HELP

MAYBE TODAY IT WILL BE WEATHERPROOF-- ESPECIALLY IF GREG IS HERE.

SUNDAYSTEW - PER USUAL .

***********************

I MUST AWAY TO FIND MY KNEE HIGH CHAPS BEFORE THESE PUPS STRIP TH E SKIN OFF MY SHINS

Oct 8, 2011

i think the PRECOCIOUS PUP award HAS TO GO TO OPAL.

TWICE LAST NIGHT SHE Was on the other side of the 3'fence between the 2 litters---first i figured was an accident--- second time i paid more attention.

when i went out to "water off" for the evening there she sat amid the smaller pups..

she came to greet me with the rest, but when i bent down to lift her over the fence she darted to their bed - turned and looked at me -- clearly saying "i do not want to live with those 2 idiot brothers of mine" so i left her there--

besides she is a big hot water bottle for the smaller pups.

i have noted she seems ready to talk things over--- bailey style-

i brought the smaller pups into the kitchen yesterday--- it was chilly-- and they were afraid of the heater-- would not go near the warm air--- til mommy explained it to them-- they learned that quickly.

************

pistol is progressing with the fear of trucks on the highway-- we took her in the durango - so she had to look out the windows ( in the van she can duck down and hide) by driving 40mph on rt 95, lots of trucks pass us for practice.

charlie and crimson are coming along nicely.

-************

construction lesson for the day

for all of you installing chain link fence---

knuckle-knuckle is a type chain link desirable for dogs-- it has the bent wires top and bottom- instead of the pointy wires.

unfortunately the miles of fencing janine loaded into the horse trailer has only one end knuckle--- so we will have to devise some covering for the pointy ends ... ?pvc pipe with a notch??? something-

i made a gate for practice-- and it looks great-- we now need 4 more for the new nut house kennel.

************

speaking of which- that floor is tipped--big time---- i planned it that way so we could hose it down and out.. i never realized... when you walk around in there it is vaguely like some fun house- and you are not sure if you are dizzy.

so be it--- the thing will drain..

i wish my house had a planned tilt...

****************

plan of attack for the day

i hope the 2 boys show this morning so we can get the staging set up to maybe get the roofing started.... winter approach-eth... once closed in we can always work inside-- we have that bullet heater-- and the pot belly should be arriving soon.

set a fan to dry the floor--- home depot said they would donate 30 feet of flooring-- but we can not pick it up til monday-

a straNGE bookkeeping maneuver apparently each department is allowed a sum of money for "markdowns" each week/ month/or something

and this donation is considered a "markdown"

whatever... Monday we will have flooring..

so we should get the tyvek all covered with painted t-111 by then

i did get some up-- with 2 nails- with hopes greg will be here Sunday to pound in more nails.

****************

i am hoping the person from the VA with the taLL HUSBAnd shows up tomorrow

she said something about a vet with 5 kids who falls.. and there is charlie--- who loves everybody-- i am wondering if he might be a possible--- i need more information.

*****************

HEYDAWG IS HERE FOR 3 DAYS WHILE THEY WENT TO MAINE

HE IS A COMICAL DOG--

*******************

AND CHAOS HAS TAKEN TO BARKING/WHINING SHORTLY AFTER 7AM LOOKING OUT THE WINDOW TO SEE IF PAUL IS HERE YET..

*************

The newly donated vaN IS REGISTERED--- AND I TOOK THE AMBULANCE OFF THE ROAD..

BOY DO WE LOOK GOOD- VEHICLE WISE.

*************

BAD NEWS OF THE DAY-- I AM ON ONE LEG- THUS SLOWING UP PROGRESS ON CONSTRUCTION BIG TIME- SOMEHOW HAVING ONE KNEE GO SOUTH WHILE I AM ON A LADDER WOULD NOT BE A GOOD THING.

HOWEVER FOR TRAINING DOGS FOR MOBILITY PEOPLE... .. I LOOK PERFECTLY NORMAL- I MAY EVEN ADD A CRUTCH. GOOD PRACTICE

**************

Oct 7th

excitement of the night-- just about asleep when a pup screamed more than once-- so it was not another up chewing on an ear.. it takes 14 seconds for me to get downstairs and to their area-- when i did -- all was quiet-- and i almost left when i counted pups--- there were supposed to be 2 harls -- and i had only 1-- luckily i spotted the rear end of fiona stuck around behind the feed barrel-and with a little jockeying she slipped out very annoyed... otherwise ok.

i do not know how people who raise golden retrievers manage- all the pups look alike- and if it wasn't for the hArl color i might have missed fiona.

************

we need to set up the barriers again for keeping them in the kitchen where it is warmer... they are currently in a puppy pile-- but not toasty warm..

***********

a new van has been donated--- it is a thing of beauty--- 2002 dodge conversion van-

sort of normal looking-and slightly smaller than the coa handicap van- this means the ambulance probably could go- after it is thru being a portable shed for the kennel rebuilding project.

***********

great progress on the new kennel (the "nut house") the front exterior walls are up

today's plan

paint the rest of the t-111 and

set up the scaffolding in prep for some kind of roofing yet to be decided..

hopefully we will have some heavy duty lifters this sunday---

and the wood/coal stove should be here next week.

home depot said they might have flooring for us-- and i will go back today

it is getting chilly and we need to get everyone warm

**************

tufts vet school is looking for mothers milk ( doggie mothers that is) i have told them we might have some on thanksgiving--- they only need a teaspoonfull from a 10 dogs that weighs over 40 pounds.. gigi is certainly that !

i have tried to milk a dog before--- it is not a simple proceedure-- and a breast pump is good only in theory.

******************

i spent quite a long time on the phone with mark--of tower of hope-- he strongly suggested- we send in not only the vets-- but family of vets--- placements so this morning i will be in touch with several of you who have one of our dogs and are a "milatary family"

there are a few more who qualify for sponsorship--let's hope--- that money will help us develop the bunch of pups we now have..

crimson and charlie are coming along fine-- crimson has a great attitude-- charlie is VERY HAPPY and is working on achieving boredom- he loves everybody.

**************

other than that-- we need puppy minders-- they need the name calling/spoon feeding exercise-- along with wearing them out on puppy hill.

*****************

karen and didi

She seems to be slowly adjusting to school life but still does not appreciate it when faculty or students come up and pet her when I am talking to someone in the hall or elsewhere. She is loved by everyone she has encountered in the building and the temptation to pet and love her is too much for several faculty members and students. I have scolded students informing them that when they call her name in the hall, she is distracted and not able to do her job. I think they are finally getting the point.

karen

*************

i don't usually--- but this is amazing

Oct 6th, 2011

pretty dull doggie

if we can get that nuthouse dryed out today we can proceed -- the unfinished roof did not leak--- but rain blew in the open door-- & we need a second layer plywood on the dryed floorr maybe that bullet heater??

then a bit of sawing to make the outside of the building flat enough to nail up t-111

there are a few odd bumps..

"it would never be noticed from a trotting horse"

other than that...... the pot belly stove should be arriving soon-- that will help dry the place out.

****************

i have decided it is not my back giving out that is causing the dowagers hump, it is my oversized tummy causing the forward tilt..

****************

rainy day meant indoor STUFF - like megan spent time in kennel 8 - that is the one with the geriatric ramp ( not as steep as the other kennels) she had chaos' pups and taught them to go up and down.. good project.--

i took a bunch in the coa van to hame depot-
they need car travel
i did apply to home depot for 10 x 30 vinyl flooring-- they do have a community outreach program-- i should hear today--
***********
recovering from MDD - mechanical destruction day-- the tractor, my golf cart- and the power chair all quit working the same day.
tractor semi repaired-- the squirting hose has been replaced and the dribbling one still dribbles.
a squirting hose is very exciting--it drenches the driver in hydrolic oil in split seconds. ....to dribble is nearly normal
the golf cart repair guy is due here today-- it has been ailing for weeks and finally gave up the ghost on the hill
the power chair fixer came and said "just how old is that??"-- nice guy-- but a lot of ridiculous questions like "do you have the manual?"
he took the joy stick arm away to a friend who might be able to fix the on off switch for "a couple hundred dollars" which is better than a new joy stick for $700. he declared the batteries fine--- and told me they would be $500 if i had to relpace those--- and he took the cover away to wash and wax it because he couldn't stand to put it back together with 1" of sand on it..
whatever....
i never checked craig's list-- but he said this is a nice old chair--- which should work fine again.
***************
my question ----as he crawled around on his hands and knees --- why do companies put serial numbers in the most inaccessible places-- like the back of tv's which are advertised as "flat against the wall"
************
my other discovery is that the chair just drops into the frame with the motor-- no screws/bolts or duct tape-
like the caboose i used to have-
when they delivered the caboose i was shocked to see that the "cabin part"just drops into the wheel piece with one "pin"-- no cotter pin- no nothing --- one pin... one hellova big pin... but a simple straight pin.
gravity is a wonderful thing --- sometimes

slim pickins in the cut and paste department--

DiDi is my world. She has saved me numerous times from falling already, has kept me walking straight, and has kept me moving when fatigue sets in.

the November WALL is up the sh#tting will take place Sunday nov 6th

Oct 4, 2011

i forgot

 too much going on---

like rain--- and thunder

and i don't have any cut and paste

Oct. 3, 2011

we had about 25 people here for the sh#TTING and #129 was the winner ---- which was lori--

we nearly made the month's feed bill--- a tremendous help--

we are on a roll--- headed for the first Sunday of november.. as soon as i can figure out how to open the next "wall"

memory is such a terrible thing to loose- the fact that i have opened 5 other "walls" has no effect on my ability to open the next.

****************

the nuthouse-- greg is a great insulation hanger--- he went thru 4 rolls in nothing flat-- all he needed was to be kept in deserts with whipped cream--

a simple matter since we had great variety of foods at the Sunday stew--

****

it was wonderful to have the open fire-- just takes the nip out of the weather... soon we will lower the "curtains" and be slightly more windproofed...

there are a bunch due here today from brooksby-- i hope they come regardless of the weather...

the weather is only going to get worse-

like you needed to be reminded

***********

also... reminding----- gigi plus 63 days equals thanksgiving day/weekend....

for the past 15 years i have avoided T-day with the family as they gathered in washington-- houston or denver--- this year they are coming to ipswich--- and i can't make the dinner 5 miles away if gigi is in labor?????

so all you folk who think having pups is fun--- there is the first challenge along with asking george where he is having t-day dinner.... i think he is around for major holidays -- unless he is in africa... but better check---

there are many people well versed in delivering puppies-- namely earlene-- who said she will be around...

these pups we have are progressing... the spoon feeding and coming when called is moving on toward a trained dog--

anD the little ones ( chaos bunch) HAVE LEARNED "BACK" AS YOU STAMP YOUR FEET SO THEY DON'T RUSH THE DOOR--- OR GATE...

we try never to use our muscles to control the pups---or dogs.

if you grab and push them back they learn to push harder--- if you say back and stamp your feet in their direction they lear that backing up is the safest thing to do... a valuable lesson.

THE BIGGER ONES--- YELLOW AND SIBLINGS--- HAVE ENJOYED THE RUN OF PUPPY HILL

NOW HOW OR WHY THEY HAVE COME ACROSS SOME CHICKEN WIRE IS BEYOND ME !! twice now a small 8" piece of torn wire has appeared-- i don't know where it is coming from but do be aware---

it may be hard to spot since the grass has got ahead of me - a very annoying thing since all kinds of stuff is hiding in the grass just waiting for an odd sneaker to step in it.

back to a fairly norMAL SCHEDULE--

NOEL NEEDS SOME HEAVY DUTY TRAINING... SHE IS SOOOOO HAPPY -- I THINK THAT WOULD BE "AN AIRHEAD" EVEN IF SHE IS A POSSIBLE BREEDING DOG - SHE HAS TO BEHAVE BETTER.

TRAINING TODAY

PROBABLY HOME DEPOT- TIL THE NUTHOUSE IS FINISHED WE WILL BE THERE ALMOST DAILY..

AND THE AMBU IS READY TO COME OFF THE ROAD AND BE A PORTABLE SHED--- WITH GENERATOR CAPABILITIES-- AND LIGHTING--- AND PA SYSTEM..

CURRENTLY IT IS FULL OF PLYWOOD FOR THE FLOOR.

ON WE GO

Oct. 2, 2011

no DD--- but the kitchen is slightly cleaner--- slightly

today is the SH#TTING AT 3:00 -

MEGAN / TIM IS SUPPOSED TO HAVE FIGURED OUT HOWE TO HAVE IT "LIVE"

I DON'T HAVE ANY FAITH IN THAT--- SO I WILL LET EVERYONE ON THIS LIST--- AND THE $500 WINNER KNOW BY EMAIL BY 4:00 ( USUALLY IT TAKES 15 MINUTES TO PRODUCE A WINNER -- SHOULD WE HAVE CONSTIPATED HENS.... AFTER AN HOUR WE DRAW THE NUMBER)

AND DON'T FORGET A $50 BONUS IF AN EGG IS LAID.

YOU CAN BUY NUMBERS TIL 2:45 WHEN WE WILL CLOSE DOWN THAT WALL...

AN ALLAN AND TESS REPORT

SHE SENT A PICTURE--- AND MY ONLY COMMENT IS TAKE OFF THE COLLAR AND LEASH BEFORE YOU LET THEM PLAY

I HAD A VERY NASTY GO ROUND IN MY LIVING ROOM WITH A DOG'S LOWER JAW TWISTED INTO THE OTHER'S COLLAR. AND BOTH DOGS GOT MAD AT THE OTHER FOR THE CONFUSING CONDITION... BIG TIME.. AND IT WAS NOT EASY TO UNDO....

SO TAKE OFF THE COLLAR-

EXPERIENCE COMES FROM BAD EXPERIENCE..

MURPHY'S LAW AND ALL THAT

Everything seems to be going pretty well with my dad and Tess. They were over today for my sons fourth birthday, and Tess was on point with her game. Here's a picture of her meeting my English Mastiff Lily in my backyard. They were getting along well and my old man was feeling pretty good, so he released her from her duties shortly after this pic for a bit of playtime. We are the last house on a dead end road so there were no worries when we let them out of the fenced area to go "sniffing" in the field...

I CAN'T INCLUDE THE PHOTO

I WOULD HAVFE TO READ THE DIRECTIONS...

Oct. 2, 2011

last day

just one brick .... all of you... one brick ---- many already have....

so far we have only about half the dog food paid for this time...

one brick each would do it.

and tomorrow we will have the sh#tting at 3pm and i am told it can be live-- but those directions will have to follow....

megan.... tim ...how????

*********

the walls arrived yesterday and are in a pile by the tea tent-

we had a minor police/tractor incident yesterday -- bonnie tried to drive our tractor home and got severely reprimanded by the ipswich police-and told to go home0 which she did

this meant both tracctors were stuck at her house---

however...

bless the topsfield fair parade --- today is the one day of the year when topsfield is full of tractors and strange things to entertain the topsfield police-- bonnie actually lives in topsfield-- so if we come out onto rt 97 and run for home- we stand a good chance of getting here..-- by the time we are actually in ipswich we will be within 1/4 mile of the driveway--- there is some "farm rule"

it may involve a farm plate-- i forget--but it has to do "within 1/2 mile" maybe---

if they ticket me i will tell them to call someone else at 4am with a loose horse. -- i have caught 2 midnight wanderers in ipswich and 2 in topsfield... so i should have some credits...

if bonnie can follow me in her truck???? actually i would need picking up too

bonnie???? if we get it done before the end of the parade (10:00) we will have fewer police to deal with.

**************

lori discovered the web of russian dogs there are a lot !!

http://www.greatdane.ru/eng/puppies/451 nice short body harl male rest of the litter has "tight eyes" so hopefully he does too/

i have emailed them--- in russian--- thanks to google translations

it is a crap shoot-- breeding dogs in general is a crap shoot

*************************

a worldly comment--

tim took pistol to bentley warren ( a gravel/stone/sand dealer up the road) for 2 days--- and the second time they came with a tractor and asked him to leave---so i called them-- to appologise and explain--the secretary laughed and then said "with a murder next door ( the chinese restaurant guy) and robbery of skips variety ( 1 block away) and robbery of the georgetown liquor store ( within a mile) i did not know why the same car would be parked in our driveway 2 days in a row,,,, "

people ARE more alert than ever before !

i explained and she said we are welcome to come on in and sit amid all the trucks and tractors all we want.

i said i would call with a heads up.

thAT IS EXACTLY WHAt pistol needs.

****************

also pistol talks.. she woke me up at 3:30 and had to go out--- which she did

it is such a delight to have no poo in the house

the pups are all on an in - out deal in the back room.

****************

today will be staple day-- probably insulation day--- it is dry in the nut house

then maybe one wall to look at----

********************

Luna, You should be very proud of your Daughter Tessa! She is a great and eager worker! Very bright too!
From reading before coming there it seemed Tess liked leaving stores more than going shopping. She's done a turn around 180 degrees now. (Seems I like shopping trips less than She does) She hurries into the store and likes to try another isle just to make sure We haven't forgotten anything before going to checkout lines. (go figure huh?)
Tess is a real trooper in the rain also! From reading the doggie daily I was under the impression as a rule Danes don't like to do rain or wet. Proving there is an exception to every rule Tess doesn't balk at all about walking in the rain! She even seeks out puddles and walks in everyone She is allowed to! She just gets Her leash on and heads out with me (shaking Herself off every few minutes) no trying to turn back or rushing to get out of the rain, no grumbling or telling me what She thinks of the weather just content to be by my side doing whatever we're doing. We're melding into a great team and enjoy working with each other She is one great Dog and Partner! I know I should not brag about Her so much but I can't help it! Good job Luna and SDP! Sincerely Al&Tess

Sept 30th, 2011

no stories fit for publication today

except--- the news-- some pilot hit the wrong button causing a 747 to flip upside down.

not the kind of thing that makes me want to run off to the airport

or as one of our recipients would say "better pack a second set of underwear"

today schedule

tim is here-- overnight-- he has to learn to "speak dog" he has pistol in the guest house with him.

i did not have time to spend a lot of time with him--- i have seen the tv go on and off so i know he is alive.

probably a costco run-- quickly-- in prep for a delivery after 2:00 of 300 pounds of freight - this is the polymax walls of the nut house. it is a "tailgate delivery" meaning they expect me to get it off the truck.

if the tractor won't do it, it is all waterproof so i could slit the straps and slide off the individual sheets onto the ground.

truckers don't like to be held up-- so i better be ready--

most of the walls are painted-- paul did some -- i don't know the paint status-- if we went thru the 2 cans---- could be we have 2 sheets of t-111 that don't match the rest

we can put those on the "A" side

we also have a little saw action needed-- by greg??? heavy saw type---notching a couple beams that fit just too closely. we have a most pequilar saw that might be perfect--- it is also heavy but would work well.

and the floor--

home depot said to "apply" for donation of flooring and they just might..

they have done that before-- that is how we got the dryer- that we use only for slobbertowels-- (too expensive to run)

flooring would be about $1 a sq foot for generic vinyl which would work as long as we hide the edges from the puppy teeth.

i had an official commercial flooring guy here yesterday who used words like "underneath " "layers " and "thousand" -- so he is out.

n.b. the 2 litters have now had their puppy shot .

and gigi is not really "flagging" just moving her tail slightly

maybe she is prego?? blue pups if she is--- and all will look alike

Sept. 29, 2011

THIS COMING SUNDAY IS CHICKEN SH#T BINGO DAY

SO PLEASE--- GET ALL YOUR FRIENDS AND ENEMYS TO BUY A BRICK-- I THINK WE HAVE THE CAPABILITY OF SHOWING IT LIVE-- AT LEAST TIM SAID HE SET IT UP--- BUT I HAVE NOT HEARD FROM HIM LATELY...

MARIA--- DO YOU HAVE A CLUE ABOUT THIS?????

************

THE NUT HOUSE IS D-R-Y

WE DID GET THE TYVEK AND THE RIDGE PLASTIC UP THANKS TO JACKY RIDING THE RIDGEPOLE TO GET IT STAPLED ON..

WE FINALLY BROKE THE ELECRIC STAPLER AND HAD TO QUIT

BUT IT IS DRY NOW.

*****************

NOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO STAND IN THERE AND FIGURE OUT WHERE THE WALLS NEED TO GO-

THE BIG QUESTION IS... THOSE SECTION OF CHAIN LINK-- MADE IN A RECTANGLE WITH PIPE AND RIGHT ANGLE PIPE FITTINGS---- CAN THOSE PIECES BE FOUND IN HOME DEPOT OR LOWES??

THANKS TO JANINE PICKING UP ROADSIDE TRASH... WE HAVE HUNDREDS OF FEET OF THE CHAIN LINK IN VARIOUS ROLLS ALL OVER THE PROPERTY.

I THOUGHT WE WERE BLESSED--- BUT IT TURNS OUT CHAIN LINK IS NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE TO GET RID OF--- IT GUMS UP THOSE BIG TRASH GRINDER-UPPERS SO TRASH PEOPLE WON'T WILLINGLY TAKE IT.--

SO WE HAVE A GENEROUS SUPPLY. ALL WE NEED ARE THE RIGHT ANGLES..

THEN WE CAN MAKE THE 2'GATES INSTEAD OF SPENDING $250 ON BUYING ONES-- LIKE THE ONES IN THE BARN.

THAT STUFF-- ONCE MADE UP --- IS EXPENSIVE

AND ABOUT THE FLOORING.. WE HAVE NO PLAN AT THE MOMENT--- 30' X 10' MIGHT BE TERRIBLY EXPENSIVE AND WE MAY HAVE TO GO WITH THE SHORT ENDS AT HOME DEPOT... PUPPIES PULLING IT UP IS THE ONLY PROBLEM

I SUPPOSE THEY WILL PULL UP WHATEVER WE PUT DOWN

THEY MAY AS WELL PULL UP THE CHEAPER STUFF.

IT IS LIKE EXPENSIVE SCREW DRIVERS-- THEY GET LOST AS EASILY AS THE CHEAP ONES.-

I DID NOT GET TO ORDER THE STOVE YESTERDAY--

**********************

IT IS A LONG STORY... BUT... "BILL" MET KARMA AND JIM WHILE GETTING HIS BLOOD CHANGED--- OR SOMETHING...

THIS MAN HELPED SDP WHEN WE WERE JUST FITTING OUT THE BARN INTO KENNELS BY LOANING US HIS ELECTRICIAN FOR A WEEK OR TWO...

APPRENTLY HE IS A FULL TIME EMPLOYEE IN A SHOPPING CENTER OWNED BY BILL .... ETC... P.S. BILL AND I ARE BOTH 73 YEARS OLD....

I THINK THAT IS HOW I MET TRACY( NOT 73 YEARS OLD)

NOW WAIT--- THIS IS GOING SOMEWHERE...

TRACY WAS IN NEED OF A STUD DOG FOR HER VERY NICE HARL FEMALE

WHICH WAS DEAGLE--- AND BAILEY WAS MY PICK OF LITTER.

(OR AS GEORGE SAYS "THE UGLIEST DANE PUP HE HAD EVER SEEN") TRACY INTENDED TO KEEP ONE AND SELL THE OTHER 3 PUPS

AFTER ANSWERING THE PHONE AT ALL HOURS OF THE DAY AND NIGHT-- SHE DONATED THE RESIDUAL FEW TO SDP

THAT'S WHERE LUNA CAME FROM...

TRACY STILL HAS LUNA'S SISTER--- AND A DAUGHTER FROM LUNA --

NOW---- THIS BILL-- LOST HIS HARL LAST YEAR--- AND HIS BOXER LAST WEEK--- AND IS NOW IN NEED OF A DOG-- EXCEPT HIS WIFE IS NOT THRILLED--- SO HE WANTS TO BUY IT FOR TRACY TO GET AROUND HIS WIFE'S OBJECTIONS--- ALSO HE TRAVELS TO PLACES LIKE AUSTRALIA--

HE HAS READ ALOT ABOUT DANES AND KNOWS THINGS LIKE SHOW MARKINGS ETC

GUESS WHICH PUPS HE LIKES???? MY 2 MATCHED HARLS WHICH I SAID I WOULD CHARGE $20,000 FOR..

NOW THER IS A SLIGHT CHANCE THAT COULD HAPPEN.

AT ANY RATE -- THE PLAN IS FOR TRACY TO DRIVE UP AND PICK HIM UP AND COME LOOK OVER OUR PUPS....

COULD BE SHE COULD TAKE A "BREEDING FEMALE" DEAL

SHE HAS A NICE FARM SOUTH OF BOSTON SOMEWHERE-- I HAVE BEEN THERE-- AND TRACY AND I ARE OF THE SAME ILK.

SHE HAS BEEN LOOKING AROUND AT DANE PUPS--- AND SAYS OURS ARE BY FAR SUPERIOR TO WHAT THEY ARE CHARGING $2500 TO $4000 FOR.

TRACY LIVES AT --- 151 PLEASENT STREET--- BUT I DON'T HAVE A CLUE WHICH TOWN... DOESN'T HELP MUCH

TODAY SCHEDULE

VACINATE ALL THE PUPS WITH THEIR 5 WAY PARVO ETC SHOT.

PAINT T-111 ON THE SAWHORSES IN THE DRY NUTHOUSE

GO BUY ANOTHER ELECT STAPLER

THERE APPARENTLY IS A STAPLE GUN YOU BANG ON THE SURFACE--- BUT WE ARE AIMING FOR THE 2X4'S AND MY AIM IS BAD AT BEST--

WHOOPS LATE

Sept. 26th, 2011

NO DISASTERS TO REPORT-- AT LEAST YET...

IT IS EARLY...

BUD2 WAS HERE WITH INDY - SHE IS A BIT OF A TYPICAL "SWIVEL HEAD" BUT IS DEVOTED TO HIM- AND EVEN LOOSE AROUND HERE-- SHE STAYS WITHIN SIGHT... SHE STOOD AND WATCHED HIM HAMMER WITH GREG SO LONG THAT I FINALLY PUT DOWN A MATT SO SHE COULD REST.

WE WENT TO NEWBURYPORT JUST TO PLAY IN TRAFFIC- AND SHE DID PRETTY WELL- WE MADE A COUPLE CHANGES IN THE WAY HE HOLDS THE LEASH- BUT THE REST OF HIS CONCERNS WILL WORK OUT.. A REMINDER--- IT TAKES ABOUT 6 MONTHS TO GET IN STEP WELL. THE BIG PART IS THERE--- SHE IS DEVOTED TO HIM.

**********

POLLY TOOK HAZEL AND BAILEY TO BROOKSBY VILLAGE AND - PER USUAL THEY WERE VERY POPULAR---

**********

GREG HAS THE ROOF ON--

NOW FOR THE ROOFING// ?ROLLED STUFF?

SOMEBODY GAVE US A BUNDLE OF REGULAR SHINGLES WHICH WE CAN USE FOR THE TOP BIT.

TYVECK THE SIDES AND WE ARE NEARLY RAINPROOF

DAVID--- WHAT ABOUT THAT FLOORING??

HE WAS LOOKING INTO THE FLOORING THE YMCA USES IN THIER SHOWERS..

SOUNDS PERFECT.

************

I DON'T KNOW WHAT I DID TO GET ON CESARS EMAIL LIST

BUT I AM- AND THANKS TO ALL THIS NETWORKING STUFF THAT I DO NOT UNDERSTAND ELANA AND JODY BOTH HAD COMMENTS IN HIS WHATEVER IT IS ?FACEBOOK?

WHAT STARTED AS A DECIENT TRAINING SHOW HAS TURNED INTO A "LET ME PROVE THAT PIT BULLS ARE NICE DOGS".

THEY ARE NICE DOGS... ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE A BARN FULL OF RATS- THEY ARE GOOD AT THAT STUFF.

**************

TODAY

LEASH TRAINING FOR THE HATS ( THE 3 WHO HAVE BEEN IN THE HOUSE)

I NEED TO USE THE FIGURE 8 ON THEM TIL THEY GET THE IDEA

THAT IS A ROPE WITH A RING- AROUND THEIR NECK- AND CONTINUE AROUND THEIR BODY BEHIND THEIR FRONT LEGS.

THEY CAN NOT GET OUT OF IT--- AND IT LEAVES THEIR NECK OUT OF ANY STRUGGLE TIL THEY GET THE PICTURE..

THE LAST THING YOU WANT TO DO AT THIS STAGE IS HAVE THEM GET LOOSE---- OR FLIP AROUND BY THE NECK.

THEY LEARN-- USUALLY TAKES ONLY A MINUTE OR TWO-

EXCEPT FOR THAT NY DOG LYN NOW HAS.. SHE NEVER GAVE UP FIGHTING...

BROOKSBY VILLAGE IS COMING HERE TODAY WITH A BUSLOAD-- POLLY AND BOB SAID THEY WOULD HELP

THE BUSLOAD IS USUALLY SELF SUFFICIENT.--

AND LANDS IN THE TEA TENT

Sept. 26th, 2011

this dd used to be what was going to happen..

not so

lately it is a historical document

we had our 3 assigned near disasters yesterday-- 2 provide a learning experience.

luckily early sandy noticed water pouring out of the guest house-- the source- in the "laundry closet" was spraying high and wide- she and bud fought their way in and tamed the beast with a towell after getting drenched. i think paul fixed that one.

*************

and mary-- lovely sweet mary-- made a mistake- there was a woman her who had had a stroke years ago-- and one arm/hand was immobile-- mary mistook it for a carrot and bit down - causing her to scream-- at which point chaos wanted in on the action.

earlene yelled-- i yelled-- chaos dropped out of sight slinking away.

Sunday sandy appeared immediately with ice.

2 big lessons there.

we have been too lax in hand feeding mary-- and i knew better - i have not stopped people from handing her a carrot and let her bite off a chunk. never again - murphy's law won again...

and it demo'd my theory that many dogs will join in any noisy activity-- the screaming child being led by mom - i have seen many news articles about being attacked by some dog under those circumstances... the wild instinct is there-- chaos was ready.

i remember----

the great gadsby dinner dance in andover - i had my 8 perfectly trained danes wandering around -"working the crowd"

and then people started to dance and i noticed these 8 lovely dogs were quietly all beginning to circle the dance floor. i stopped them easily--- luckily i noticed before they sprang.

same instinct-- chaos wanted in what she considered "fun"

*************

and then there was tucker

i saw a crowd near the barn-- megan was there so i dismissed it as "covered" .... then new people took their pup out of their car.

tucker dove-- knocking the child down.. i was too far away to do anything about that-- megan must have grabbed tucker--- a split second too late ---- i am not sure why he was loose with a new dog getting out of a car--- the kid seemed to recover. no bite but he is big and did knock her flat trying to get at that pup.. and there were other dogs loose too... bad concept.

we should have been on top of that deal. these are big dogs... we need to pay attention better... they are dogs and have their own rules...which sometime conflict with ours.

******************

meanwhile greg quietly working away --- got the roof on the nut house

********

and sterling tied gigi again 12 minutes so we should have a pregnant dog 63 days blue puppies - somebody keep track. that lands it about thanksgiving day????

great- everybody will go visit relatives in kansas and i will be left sleeping on the floor all by myself

i hope george is not in africa ( he is going sometime around there)

****************

lori has located a web which is very interesting--- dane pups in russia

it is a long list--- i like a lot of the russian dogs--- many are blocky chunks like bobby

go thru the list--- it is long
and if you find something promising run it by lori loriannt@comcast.net

if we get picky there are a lot of harls there who's black is not quite black--- if we have a choice go for the black black spots-- and avoid the "merlequin" which cold actually be a genetically blue dog

for the experts remember there is a black out of blue--- and a black out of harl --- which look alike... black...
if someone got genetically careless they could have blue genes floating about a bloodline...
************

today

chaotic

i have the paperwork ready for mr pappas ( guy earlene impressed at appleton farms.)

someone from the VA is due here 10:00 ish

polly/bailey has the usual brooksby deal at 1:00

luna will slide into that gig really well a "sisters" act

Sept. 25, 2011

george reports on katie's xray- basically he is not sure what it is either- not typical anything-- but cancer is not ruled out either.

the immediate problem is what to do about it--- leave her home to rest... take her with you( jade) and just don't ask her to pull or push etc... somehow leaving her home for 2 weeks would be upsetting to her if you could manage to cut down her activity while she is with you.

like go study at the library alot??????

also unless she is in terrible pain, i would not give her pain med.. this would encourage her to walk on 3 legs and rest the other.

when and where is that conference you are to speak at with allison?

**********************

re: the nuthouse...

the roof is nearly done thanks to greg..

i hate to think how many ton's of lumber are stuck on that hillside,

greg proved the sturdiness by doing chin-ups on the rafters

and he ain't light.--- but nothing moved....

on the blue dog front---- sterling and gigi managed a tie yesterday

stay tuned...

*****************

puppy wise...

karen sent a friend to puppy sit yesterday-- i missed his name but he spent a few hours entertaining the 6 pups on puppy hill.

i hope he comes back-

**********

and then we mixed the 2 litters without too much mayhem--- in "V"

"V" was small for that number of pups 7+6+3 ( the hats)

we went thru a lot of cardboard--- and the pen could stand a raking today--- it has too many wet leaves.

we could let them all loose if we had enough people to chase them--- and we did not have the laundry water to deal with.

*****************

laundry water

we are doing so much laundry that the dry well is not dry---

molly's father thinks the dry well is just clogged with dog hair and dirt again... it never occurred to me that there would be enough great dane hair for it to be a problem-- but it was a few years ago.

sooooo we will try just pumping -- and if that does not work then we will have to digg up some other solution.

**************

stewing today-- it is getting to be that weather when the wood fire is a really good thing-and not just a smokey tradition.

and

----about our stew pot it needs to be rejuvinated again..

maybe marini's still has corn???

Sept. 25th, 2011

best and worst of the day

best- luna is looking nearly normal- there isn't even minimal drainage- i take back all those thoughts i had about george's bifocals

worst is jade took katie to the vet's with a sore shoulder of a week or so duration-- they said it could be cancer-- took an xray-

THEN TOLD HER THEY WOULD READ THE XRAY THE NEXT DAY.

of all the nonsense. it apparently is a digital xray too-- and they could not get it read 2 minutes after they took it????

that needs some explaining as far as i can see.

at any rate--- we wait-

i also suggested they send it to george.

there are a lot of shoulder things it could be--- however....

if it is cancer i am going to have to hand her off to ann- who has been there.

in all probability all of us will outlive every dog currently on the property. we give them a happy life.

with that happy thought--

i will rush on- i have that letter to write---

and i have had nightmares about the building sliding down the hill-- some of those posts are down below the frost line--- but not all of them.

we--- greg---is nailing a lot of lumber together--- it is getting heavy-- should be fine. it definitely will be interesting.

the porch on the main house is "moving" - same hill --same soil

ellen has managed to get us another van-- i have n idea what exact kind--- but she said "he will leave the seats in as you requested"... so apparently it has seats--- she called it a conversion van

the ambu is a perfect portable shed---

*********

in the would you believe it department--- someone emailed me asking if they could bring a group April 4th 2012.

right !

the rest of the story is that they are putting together a calandar and want to put that date in.

-

go right ahead--- but you are dealing with someone who can't keep tomorrow organized...

the hey dawg report

Good morning Carlene,
Hey and I had quite a busy Tuesday. As part of my job, I visit employers who have interns or are interested in learning about our internship program. Tuesday, I did an on-site visit at MetLife in Danvers and Hey went with me. You may recall it was a rainy day but we persevered and found the handicapped access but were faced with a revolving door. A gentleman who was taking a break offered to open a regular door so we could proceed. The guard made me sign in and then the man from out side walked us to the elevator. When we reached our floor, the door opened on to bright green, shinny marble flooring.
I pretended it wasn't there and Hey walked along with me. Since my contact had difficulty in finding an open conference room, we walked quite a bit on the marble. In the conference room, Hey did a down/stay at my chair side. He was a perfect guest and we departed with out incident into the pouring rain. Finally we found my car and we were off.
After lunch, I had a division meeting at a different campus, the Aggie campus. We sat in the car until it was time to go in. A great place to have many school buses drive by, loud and air breaks. He was okay. The meeting was held in the cosmetology lab. Beauty chairs were set in a wide oval and we went across the shinny floor and chose a seat at the far end of the oval. Again Hey did a great down/stay behind me. A few minutes into the meeting, I heard a soft grrr from Hey. I reassured him all was well. Another grr and I turned around. Hey was looking up at a long shelf with many manikin heads looking at him. No wonder he was concerned. Finally, he turned around so the heads were not in his sight. Yelena, a faculty member, was sitting beside me. As the meeting was about to break up, she turned to me and said "Is that a dog behind you?" I said yes and explained he was my service dog. She responded that she was afraid of dogs, but if he was a service dog, then he probably wouldn't bit her. I responded that if she was afraid, she could exchange seats with Patty who was at the other end of the oval. She thought it over and decided to stay. Which she did. We left without incident and returned home where Hey had a well deserved treat and then a long snooze.
WOOF
Hey, Gay and Jerry

*********************

hey and his aversions to slippery floors

I pretended it wasn't there

that is the key to this problem

the mannie report

I had decided to excercise droite du seugnoir as it were by showing my pass from The Service Dog Project and visiting BJ ......Manny and we were returning from a visit to my neurologist. She still hadn't come up with a cure but said she was sure I was alive and I had better get on with it.
Amazingly the doorman recognized Manny and we had a good trip around with smiles and nice things exchanged. The previous night we had stayed at the Beechwood near UMass and no amount of walking around the grounds had persuaded him to enrich the soil. Whilst Burness was still shopping I set off to give the lad an opportunity.
I hit the sidewalk with both hands at my side and landed on my face, nose first and I was sure I heard it Squash. Like one does, one did an inventory and started with what could be seen.Half a pair of spectacles,a nose with a leak of some red stuff and a disinclination to do anything about moving.....there was a big black dog standing there. He looked calm, so did I.
I cannot tell you how many people came and wanted to help or call 911.If ever you are in trouble go to Greendield MA.The people were loveley.
A guy we had been talking to in BJ went to find Burness and tried to persuade her I needed a surgeon and she should make sure I was taken to the hospital.Several men told me I lost a lot of blood and several more said I was getting clammy.A very cross lady said that I reminded her of her father in law......apparentley he is a mule.Long story short ...two guys hoisted me erect .put me in the car and Burness,Manny and I went to our local Medical center.
I looked in the mirror this morning and thought I saw Rocky Balboa.

All through the fun Manny stayed calm.He keeps coming up to me now and running that wiskery nose over the funny looking makeup I am sure he thinks I am wearing
What can I say
Thank You
