feb 28 2015-- really
bricks sold out ...  big words in our lives...
thanks to everyone--it make planning new litters so much easier

and we better get on the ticket...
feb does not have a 29  so tomorrow is a shatting day
and scarlott really ought  to be moving in.

zena is moving out.... going with megan to florida..  nice dog
i hope megan gives them the lecture....

at first.....let them come to you
don't use your muscles to control them
danes are  not trained, they are educated...

and if megan comes thru the door to go to the airport  without my daughter  as driver. ... i will be hittin g the send button and will have to drive  her myself..  curlers and  all...

i have heard rumors that "everything is under control...  but there was a party last night at janine's -- for megan's birthday-- and one can never be sure.....
ok.. megan has come and gone  5am  for a 7:30 flight and janine is up drinking coffee-- so i guess they are fine...
******
bella's news article went round.. last i heard it was in ohio-- nice article-- now if we could just figure out what george has against staying  in the cafeteria for lunch..... he is doing exactly what peggity did about going into a ladies room--   she bolted out the door several timea a nd quickly lay down ... clearly telling her owner "i'll just wait  out here"  so finally   that is what her owner did...  they came to an agreement.

george is not disobedient... he is telling us something about the cafteteria bothers him-- could be someone stepped on his tail  too often-- or the roof is about to collapse... he always said it was not his favorite place... but he could put up with it. to hasve bolted twice for the nurse's station and lay down  as if he was waiting for bella to finish... he is saying something.. we may have to  insist.. but at least we should try and figure out his objections...
***********
the container is landed
clutter will accumu;ate to fill available space....
i have not seen it yet, but last night during mail call, sheila delivered 25 rugs-- donated by home depot
there is something about  a sample sticker glued to the middle--  that  would never stop us from using them... apparently the stack is about 48" high- covering the back half  of the container..
i am pleased that it is sooooo cold-- because if there are any creepy crawlies, i think they die by freezing-- at least i am told bed bugs do..
home depot also told us they have a pallet of oops  paint-- sheila say it but could not cope last night-- i wll go look today-- she said somethign about  5 gal pails of stain.... well-- this house could use stain... i wonder what color it is.... a purple house woudl  be a bit much, but a nice dark brown....... all the other buildings are latex paint.... and then there is the container itself  which would need oil based...
and latex can't be frozen-- so i don't know where to keep a pallet of paint  until we can use it..

here we go.. i wonder what fate has planned for the container..  the "steel grey"  has to go..  perfect timing for someone to donate paint...
mine is not to question why....
*****
now about the gloves situation  -- i don't think i went into this before..

i needed gloves for handling wood with splinters-- so i went and bought a pair-- and did wear them- once--
next splintery project .. i needed to wear gloves--couldnt remember having bought the first pair- only that i  needed golves--  so i ordered a package of those leather/canvas working gloves- 12 to a package- and i wore a pair... once...
it was a cold fall-- i needed a pair of gloves-  thought i had some- but  not sure ---couldnt find any-- so i ordered some from farmtek-- couple packages witht he rubber dots for traction... and i wore a pair...
by now you can tell where this is going--
when this last snow started--- i knew i had golves somewhere- but i had none when i needed to plow..
so i took a pair that were lying on theresas desk-- a blue fluffy pair-- and left them in the tractor behind the seat... so as long as i was driving the tractor, i had gloves... the rest of teh time.. no one had  gloves-- and i kept saying "there should be a box of hats and gloves by the front door so people could grab some..."
finally-- someone said " there is a box by the front door"   ..... outside..
and there was-- a huge box-- ? an easy bushel?? - under a drip and frozen solid-- dozens of hats and gloves totally unuseable in their current condition...
so my  "order".. last summer  about "put theses in a box by the front door" was heeded...  but the true3 message was not conveyed...  this concept is a huge probl;em around here..

we so carefully teach the dogs to "wait"  and "think"  with the can of dog food and the spoon...  how do you do it with people???

so  now we have a soggy mess on the fireplace --drying out--  the fact that they got wet was mary's fault...  she tried to get in the front door one day-- all 750 pounds of her- and in the process. pulled the porch away from  being attached to the  house...  consequently anyting on the front porch got dripped on,  until it was covered with a brown tarp- so we coudld not see what was there... hence the lost gloves...
what did  we learn?  probably nothing.. so we bash on...

thank you all for telling  me jeffco is now crawford-- and thy have thoise file jackets with frosted fronts...--- they are terriffic- and hardy !! when i go speak and carry one  like a mini briefcase, i look so damn efficient it is amazing...

my basic problem in any office is, i design a perfect system, then forget the details-- happens all the time...a lifetime problem-- based on my inability to solve any binary problem-- right ,left  up down  clockwise or colunter clockwase,  gets into  red file green file, PAID , UNPAID  ... SENT , NOT SENT -> ~

camera shot on puppy hill  got  moved to 1:30--  which fits.
that makes container shopping this morning, bella's school for lunch- and sitting in my nice warm car watching they shoot a calendar shot of 3 dogs on a toboggan -- on puppy hill at 1:30

george had a HS( holy shlt) moment in the cafeteria yesterday-- and no one know s why-- i wondered if they were shoveling the roof... something panic'd him in the cafeteria...- and then did a nice interview for the boston tv station... http://www.myfoxboston.com/story/28214225/girl-with-rare-disease-has-a-four-legged-best-friend-in-her-service-dog

Hello Carlene and Megan,
Things are going very well with Kiara. It took her a few days to really feel at ease around the house, but her p & v personality is back with a vengeance. She and the other two dogs are getting along well, although when they really get playing, things go much better when they are in pairs, so we do twosies outside for the most part. The stairs were to intimidating on day one, but with the help of a spoon and a can of dog food, she was able to make her way to the top on day two. We still have challenges with loading up in the back of the jeep, and getting her to stay in her bed (and out of mine) for the night. We are going to get a new bed today, in the hopes that she will find it more appealing.
As I had mentioned earlier, I have to travel to DC next week, so she will be at the farm. She and I will be in for my Saturday morning shift, and then back on Sunday for the volunteer meeting. I'll leave her there Sunday, since my flight is early on Monday. I don't get back until Friday night, so I will just plan to pick her up when I am there Saturday. I do have another business trip in March, the week of the 17th. I'll update you with times when I have it nailed down.
Thanks so much for letting us bring her home! The whole family is really enjoying her, although I do get the "Have you totally lost your mind?" look from the other dogs once in awhile. I have been posting a few pictures on Facebook, so that her many fans can keep up with her. I hope that someone is able to post them on Discus for the CPs that don't Facebook. I attached a couple of picts here as well.
Thanks again, and we'll see you Saturday.

Hi Carlene,
I hope you are staying warm by the fireplace this winter.  Bob and I will never forget our Lock down experience with you all... Reflection..
As much snow as you have gotten this year you had ice last year. Our first day out together... Megan comes to the cabin door and said " are you ready its a little icy". "No problem I stated." We go down the steps very carefully then all of the sudden I slip and fall to have Megan standing there clapping saying oh this is good! I looked at her confused she proceeds to say this is why we have Khaki. ( to my self I'm thinking but I don't want him to hurt himself.). I'm trying to get up and Megan starts to slide trying to help me. By this time we are both laughing so hard. Mean while Khaki is standing there looking at us both, I could only imagine what he was thinking. Megan then said this isn't going to work I have an idea. She slides to her van and gathers comforters to throw on the walk way and driveway so we can have some grip. That worked great! (So to answer someones question about the comforters... YES! They can be used for a lot of things.) Sitting here writing this I'm laughing because right when we where getting into the van I see you getting into the golf cart I just happened to be looking at Megan while she saying OOOO NOo..... She yells BE-CAREFUL towards you... its icy! you fire up your golf cart and go behind the back of your house to go down the hill that is not the "steepest." As I looked at Megan I said (not knowing you very well) she does know to pump the brakes right? Megan looks over to me and said what brakes! All of the sudden we hear...Wahoo!  Its you sliding sideways down the driveway with 4 pink curlers on top of your head! The cart comes to a stop and without skipping a beat you said well that was exciting! I need to go check on the barn, we need sand... on my list to do!
My heart continues to fill with warmth, laughter, and love when I look into the eyes of my greatest supporter for the reflection I see in him is...SDP.

Marsha/Khaki.

i do not know what this computer is doing with thi s email-- spacing is crazy-- sorry

i wish i had bella's mom's email address to suggest bella have a hand towel strapped to george's harness..apparently yesterday in the hospital he had a diarrhea which was no real problem in the hosp[ital but if he did that in school they might pull a fire alarm or something... if she had
a towel she could cover it up which always helps immensely. gives you a chance to get out the cardboards.

it does not hqappen often, but it does happen. my personal preference is .. in a costco situation is to move my shopping cart over the mess .. and then clean it up. for the newcommers.... megan and i have both found out that if a male is peeing, it does not help to grab the thing-- it just squirts out anyway.. megan's episode of that was costco-- mine was sam's when i was working a dog from an electric scooter-- so it was eye level-- and it seemed a good idea just to grab it and plug it up.. did not work.....
hey-- this is supplsed to be an educational episode.
*****
shiela has arrived home-- ( thankfully she still referrs to this area as home) after sliding
arounf north carolina for hours- they made it...
probably needs some sleep.. but i /we need to get on the container problem.
.
since i heard from purina that they are donating a 2 month supply which will be 7 pallets
of dry and 1 pallet of canned.- from their emaiol it sounded like next week--

7 pallets-- is a whole new ballgame-- they will fit in a 20 foot cantAINEWR but i had considered a 40 foot.
. ti li realized to unload a 40 foor you need 100 foot for the truck to unload--
with this snow, we ain't got no 100 feet nohow...in any direction...
so don't bother offering suggestion s as to where to put it-- the onnly place is next to the ambulance-
-- probably crooked so tehy can get a clearance up the driveway to unload...
there is a $100 delivery fee-- so my guess .. if we find no toher way, we can get them to come back for $100
in the spring and move it...
because this purina project will save us thousands of $$ i think we shojuld go for the best container
we can afford... that is where sheila comes in... she knows the owner "don"
and because we will have to stack them side by side, we may need one of those pallet slider things...
and the pallet of cans will have to go in the heated barn area for the moment so the cans don't freeze???

luckily the tractor can handle pallets.
and i like the proplan anyway... i used to feed it -- back in the days of animal episodes.. --- i fed so much that i got 5 bose radios from clipping weight circles...
****************
today -- a meeting about the 2016 calendar.... i remember last year at this time -- thinking we were nuts to start so soon, but we just made it in th elong run... there is alot of details.. and creativity and inspiration does not appear on schedule.. we have some good ideas... someone sent us 4 pages -- some are workable aand we wil talk to william about it... one is comical; " have bentley and walter hold a banner...." and who would mop up all the blood from the fight?? ..to even pull off a photoshop would involve them being closer than practical.. the hatred is great !
*********

had an email from my daughter who moved to n.c. to get away from the winter weather-- she is 100% snowed in for the second day.... i hope tha tis not another storm moving north to us...
some has melted but you still can not see around corners when driving-- even in a higher than normal truck...
**********
the only other large news is pam was up alot last night worrying about footsteps crunching in the snow... whatever it is , it left semi large footprints very close to the house..
like our friendly hawk.... who can no lo9nger "shop" foir varmits in the forest , and is living on about one chicken per day--- --our collection of guinnea hens is down to 2..

making me wonder about ordering chickens -- if you are snowed in and have nothing else to do-- try stromberg's chickens-- great catalog -- it is how you order 25 baby chickens which arrive at your post office-- and if anyone want s to do that and give us the adult birds after you go thru the 90 degrees for baby chicks episode.. we will take them.. we are going to need them-- matt... our friendly animal control officer reminded me hawks are federally protected..wonder if i can get a grant to feed them??

Hi All at SDP,
This is Ruckus!!! My birthday was yesterday & I want to wish my brothers & sisters (Pimentos) Happy Birthday! Also, Happy Birthday Megan!! For our birthday gift I ask (if you can)please buy a Chicken Brick in our names. Thank you! Ok now for an update. Today, I went to school with Mom & played with 3 kindergarten students. Mom introduced me & explained what a service dog does. I was very interested in these little people but I looked around from my down stay position. The students were calm & respectful. Mom was very proud of them for following a couple of rules. Mom said I was Terrific!! Mom & I have a special "thank you" time when we get home. I get treats, lots of praise & love. Friday I will be going to Middle School. Mom seems very excited about that. Attached are some pictures from today's outing & notice a picture of SDP. I'm lovin my new home but miss all my SDP friends. Im learning my Mom's motto "life is good". Love you all Ruckus & Carolyn

today we must clear out of the house all the opinionated females and get ready for scarlott's arrival ... wanda has got to go somewhere..
we can try kennel 10 with riot... today-- the other option is the back deck-- but htat is not on camera.  maybe a crate in the house  for when scarlott wants to move around....-- otherwise teh tv room is scarlotts and she must feel secure there.  -- and she must have her family come to visit every day as they travel around... stop i n-- quick pat and a cookie... here is a photo ( maybe if it works)   we saved money on the ultrasound.... if she is not pregnant she has a huge problem...- and remember an ultrasound has never been correct for the numbers.. paula can play with our ultrasound ( if george says ok).

so in the main house we will have bailey  and probably ethyl---  then the deck bentley, chaos ( unless earlene can take her) opal( sheila will be around to  entertain her) &mariah---

THIS IS THE LATEST PHOTO THAT BETSY POSTED
SHE'S DEFINITELY BIGGER THAN LATE LAST WEEK!  bulging scarlott  ?i t did n't copy????

  1 Attached Images???????
slow day.. compared to some of the last couple  we could use it.
i keep saying i will clean this place up in the winter..

well it is winter and the mess still accumulates-- the overflow is flowing--
it is the kind of problem where i need a herd of scouts to perform the "carlene cleanout"
where i stand and take stuff item by item and hand it to a kid "here this goes in the shop"
and kid #2" this goes in the guest house"  kid #3 ... this to the ttent"....ad infinitum..
because just sitting here at my desk, there are more fetch and carry problems
than i could possibloy handle in a week. -  i have tried teh bucket routine-- with those great white buckets
and leave fill them with stuff that has wandered into the house and needs to "go back there"  wherever there is..

i hope everyone is praying for  purina to come thru-- do  not any one contact them--
but it means we must get a container here in prep...  for 2 months of food--

in prep i have you tubed " how do they make theose containers"
and  there are 2 films on "how to go buy a container"
sheila is enroute to climb around containers in the deep snow along about friday.. last known  location she was sliding around in the carolinas with people who had never drivern on ice..
general consensus is that  spending a few extra bucks makes sense to get a good one..
i have some feel for that becuase it could end up a big rusting hulk that costs $7000 to get rid of.

the caboose was nearly that... until some guy came along who collected them
and there are not many caboose collectors in the whole usa.
i bet there are not any who collect leaking containers...
 ...
 i will clean house
i will clean house
i will clean house

and i am told the camera is out-- so you can not watch me
and i am told... by tim.. we have another portable camera s\alreadyt shipped to be ready fot teh birth

i can remkember how nervouse i was about filming the first  whelping.. i
was so afraid the first pup  would be stillborn--- those things can happen...
but the entire camera bunch has become educated viewers..
i expect you all to keep newcommers informed...
it is real time
whatever happens -- happens

remember the person who told us we had one stillborn because we were using cell phones in the room.
Tim( explore tech) came back with "that is because you did not wash them first"

so get everyone prepared....
earlene has washed her birthing sweater...

best news of the day?  the water is not frozen-- but i don't think i have ever had such cold water out of the faucets...-- it is more like italian ice...
***
...i have read up on why the hot water freezes first, and did not understand a word.-i feel very sorry for people who have to work 8 hours in this temp for minimum wage-- i would set congress out in it in a heartbeat...- bet they'd raise the minimum wage then.. i have always known i am dependent on the man who collects our trash-- i feel like today i should  run along behind the truck and give him some hot coffee... immagine jumping up on the truck-- holding on with one hand while the truck moves to the next house creating a worse wind chill in the breeze.  awful !!
********
and then there is the sidewalk problem-- some kid just got hit trying to get home from school...   there are no sidewalks in alot of places... i heard some mayor say they tried to clear sidewalks of the places where  kids walked home from  school-- apparently they missed one
what is the big hang up about 180 school days anyway..  time to decide a few computer  days would be better...  as a matter of fact... didn't some harvard student prepare an entire curriculum on disks?kindergarden  thru 12th grade..
time to make use of that...

i think sheila is driving north  - 5 dogs in her RV- eithre starting or arriving tomorrow.  that is a worry - when a simple flat tire could be life threatening.
they say it will warm up tomorrow-- to 17 degrees...  whoopie....

and   traci adams is arriving tomorrow night- she will be a great help to  gracie
who is doing overtime-- big time--  being a nurse , grace sleeps whenever possible for however long-  you learn that when you go to med school- i swear my husband  could sleep leaning against a wall.,  and if he had an early plane to catch he would guarentee to be up at 3am  without an alarm--it took me years to figure out how he did it...he adjusted his waking by the time and amount of water he drank before going to bed... it worked.
********
so back to the water topic.... i heard on the news how someone in Britain has discovered the fluoridation of water may help tooth decay but also contributes to obesity..  I KNEW THERE WAS A REASON !!!---- for you  newcommers, i am from newburgh new york which was teh test case for flouride in the water-- i spent my grade school years chewing on wax and spitting in little bottles-- when kingston new york was the control city...i had too much  spitting and not enough spelling --  and now i eat too much... 70 years later they tell me !!  it is not the cereal and whipped cream... it is the flouride in the water...
*******
yesterday with great effort  anne got my  annenberg year end report cleaned up and we sent it. -----in one paper alone i had spelled bentley 6 different ways...anne fixed that    ---.so it went...3 documents attached to an email...   with hopes...

then  with mark's camera help, she and i sent off a quick email to  the purina person with the photo of wanda and purple balloon with bentley.. let me try and past it here...

did it work??  are we entering a new phase of my  tech capabilities-- a photo i the daily doggie???

the purple balloon served 2 purposes.. finding her in the deep snow-- and deflecting the hawk-- which has been eating one chicken a day...--

my tech capabilities are not of my own making... i got 2  text messages yesterday on my phone-- one from megan- sent yesterday and one from earlene saying she was coming to pick up chaos-- and that was 3 days ago.
and this is the phone i carefully carry with me when plowing so i can call for help if i get stuck?????
i know it has stopped talking to my car...
megan thinks i should buy another -- simpler one-- maybe with a rotary dial...

the chickens - by the way-- are starting to lay-- big time-- so spring is here-
it is amazing-- mother nature gets them fired up for spring .. they're layin' eggs now just like they used to-- it has to do with teh legnth of day-- i don't know how that is working when the snow is so high around their coop that they can's see the light of day
but mommy nature wins over jack frost...

HI CARLENE,

BEFORE ARRIVING HOME YESTERDAY WITH CHAOS, WE TOOK HER FOR A 30 MINUTE WALK OUTSIDE OUR LOCAL MALL.  WE WERE STOPPED BY TWO PEOPLE IN CARS; ONE ASKED IF HE COULD TAKE HER PICTURE BECAUSE SHE IS SO BEAUTIFUL (OF COURSE, I ALREADY KNEW THAT).  THE OTHER CAR WANTED THEIR 3 YEAR OLD SON SEE A DALMATION UP CLOSE.  WHEN I TOLD HIM SHE WAS A GREAT DANE, HE SAID HE KNEW THAT BUT DIDN'T WANT TO DISAPPOINT HIS SON WHO LOVES DALMATIONS.

WE TOOK HER FOR A GOOD 30 MINUTE TROT AROUND THE MALL AGAIN THIS MORNING.  AT THIS TIME, SHE IS VERY CONTENTED SLEEPING ON THE SOFA.

feb 23 2015
i have had several notices about the "new" tick disease-- i think it was kansas... however... i count on george (dvm)  to know about things like that--  that way i can avoid the panic "sky is falling" type rumors that are more fad than fact.. that is his job...  and everyone keeps telling me to deligate... well i have-- that stuff is his problem...  if he thinks i need to know, i am sure he will tell me.  he is on the board of directors- and i see or talk to him  many times weekly.. so i told him about the emails  i have had... and got this.....

"Heard about the tick disease. Very rare here right now but seen in Africa"

ok- george, i don't want to tempt fate-- but if you think  our dog has that.. then do something...

the entire concept of "fashionable  illnesses and cures"  is fodder for the internet .  i had an email about jp  yousha( a really big  respectable dane show breeder)  about an eye test to prevent breeding a dog where all the pups go blind.   i have no idea why there was then some reference to harl danes from europe.
maybe i will find out, but i have had alot of euro danes and blindness has never been an issue.. maybe i will get caught...  but there comes a point where if you worry about every known ailment of dogs, you would never own one.
teh only eye issue i can remember is one dog with lowered tear production- which we treated for a whlile - then forgot about it...  she died at 11 from bone cancer with perfect vision...
maybe that eye issue is recessive and not breeding related dogs eliminates that  problem...
breeding animals is a crap shoot anyway- and anyone who says otherwise has not had enough experience.   We deal with the hand we are given...
so far so good....  fate is the hunter...
********
and then janine came in--- with tales of 2 friends of her's that now go to new york every 2 weeks for "treatment " by some lyme clinic  where they are injected with saline solution to prevent lyme  disease. $300 cash per treatment--not covered by insurance...  the dr. there is a phd.. not md...

grace and i immediately jumped on that one-- we have a carton of saline solution -- and she is a "injectable" type nurse -- janine a phd--- we are all set  to charge them $299...cash  and save them the trip to nyc...

which brings to mind--- my husband ( md-- family practice)  who used to give out B12 shots to little old ladies monthly--- because it did no harm, he had to do something, and they felt better after the shot.

same thing with  scott ( a vet at georges) ---said if he told us to give pepto to a dog he would be treating us, not the dog...
***********
to change the topic-- ann getchell -- who reads this occasionally gets on my case about extra words... i have had comments from her about my grammer which lord knows is in a sad state of repair... but .....
that sentence ----I HAVE HAD  --- is a perfect example-- you con't need the   HAVE. -- she tells me..
sorry...

sheila comes north on 2/25--- it is supposed to snow that day...

feb 21,2015
so much going on-- i forgot to get steve's lamb chops for breakfast...-- i am going to get out  of here today-- in my car...  if no more than  to the mail box...maybe even make it round the block.

actually i did make it out yesterday, i drove the tractor about 5 miles to janine's house-- where the roof had relinquished alot of her snow and she could not get  out the normal door..and the oil pipe was hidden behind a 20' mound...
i had not driven the tractor on the road for any significant distance..  it was a learning experience...
when the tractor was new, i sent the tires off to be filled with something beside air-- at a cost of $750 -- so i never would have a flat tire...it is a simple matter to  take the tires off , you just put the bucket down down and then teh backhoe wings down and it  is possibel to lift the entiree tractor off the ground and just leave it ( hopefully out of the way- or looking extremely foolish in the middle of the  parking area- as was this case.) til you get the tires back again.. i was told it took 2 weeks-- because they had to let the stuff sit to harden- or whatever... well they must have set them vertically, because -they have hardened,  but  they are not round.--- and if that was not bad enough.. i was unaware that topsfield had managed to have  "town water" installed -- as every house we passed had a 2'patch in the hot top which did not quite aproximate the rest of the street. if ypu are counting-- that is 4 "shakes" every 10 feet from the tires and a jolt every 100' over the water main patches.  we made it-- with jainine following behind with flashers.

the tractor is not registered,
we /i could have been arrested- but i was ready in topsfield- because they have my number at the police department as someone who can catch loose animals-- like horses-- last time  at 4am about 2 years ago..
everybody has to be good at something-- and after many years with a bunch of 4h kids and their horses... i have had experience at horse catching.  so the police called  4am -- they had been chasing a horse for 4 hours only about a mile from my house on rt 97  and tehy were afraid the commuter traffic would start... --it just happened that the trailer was hooked up and only had one sofa in it-- so i slid that onto the groujnd-- grabbed a bucket of grain and ropes and drove  to the rescue...  the horse came right up to  the bucket of grain and teh police were very impressed-- helped me make an illegal u turn with blue lights and i trailered it home.
it was a good looking horse-- big time--  i just left it on the trailer figuring when someone got up to feed breakfast tehy would notice..  turns out Bonnie...with whom we have become  pals-- had left the horse with extra hay and water so she could be gone overnigth- ( horses will live very nicely on hay and water-- too much grain will kill them )so all the following day i kept calling the police saying " don't forget i have someone's horse"  bonnie finally called the police to ask - so i just drove it home for her.

Bonnie has become  an asset around here-- i think she is a phd and a veternarian- retired-- i don't know where i heard this-- but i theink her claim to fame is taking 500,000 baby chicks into indonesia??? or something like that.at any rate she is an"intellectual veternarian"-- and  the one - along with george- who said teh dogs needed tums with all the beef.

back to janine's snow- she shoveled  her roof while i pushed snow-- then she slid off the roof into a snowbank up to her neck-- and i lifted her out with the tractor... i told her she could drive the tractor home-- she said "i don't know how to drive that tractor" - however by the time she had gone 100 feet she knew all she needed to know to bounce homeward... and i followed in the nice truck.

one other fyi   bonnie said getting hte phd degree was much more difficult than the dmv degree.  interesting.

one other fyi----i decided people tend to prefer to be in herds too.. because everytime i passed another  front end loader-- we would wave at each other-- like motorcyclists do.   sort of a kindred soul out dealing with a massive snow problem.

and it is massive.--  and tomorrow it is going to rain.

i think i will back up[ this computer and sit in my car and see if the roof collapses.   the hunters dad, steve, ryan and david have got alot off the roof's but an inch of water might do amazing things..  bud -in the meantime-- is dealing with the fact that i opened the electric gate the easy way in the blizzard...  it tried to oepn normally and got stuch-- so i pushed it with the tractor..  he tells me i should not have done that...
he was not sitting in a nice warm tractor cab ..... in a blizzard... when the decision was made.

feb 19 2015
happy 19th.... !!  i think annie has picked up a cake for us... it is not just any cake it is from
KONDITOR MEISTOR
there was one in purple  and there was one with bentley written on it... so between the two . we had to have one. and i got a strange message from annie yesterday... and since today is the 19th  what better need to celebrate.. etc...  these are cakes you make an appointment to pick up...

i think megan said it was her birthday next week..  but she says that alot... and we don't argue-- we just eat cake alot....
*************
aol is giving me a hard time today-- but that is hardly news...
********
yesterday's discovery-- thanks to megan.. was  teh senior center in amesbury... somebody with a creative mind thought that one up... so i have to share...
they are right off  route 95 so they have a bus to boston commuter style-- they put up a very nice building  2 story-- first floor a few offices and a coffee counter kind of thing-- it is jam packed at 6 to 9 am-- after that it becomes the senior center- and the upstairs is a senior day care center.   what perfect use-- time wise for a heated a/c room with tables and coffee..and parking  and bus connections...
they knew we were coming-- with bentley and victoria- at this  old folks whatever... she did very well--  all danes start slowly  but after about 10 minutes we had the collar off   and she just wandered around   "go say  hi"  and then fell asleep...so she is doing well.l

the crowd loved the dog visit... and we met some interesting people there....  they gave me a cup of coffee in a mug from the bank in town-- that bank made noises about having  us on their charity list-- and we never got anything.... at least yet...
maybe if i made more noises about stopping in there  more often that bank might come thru.... that building  and bus connections were darn well done...- and we were met by the newbvury pt news photographer and "guy with tape recorder"... i don't know what he recorded before i realized i was on sound.. so heaven knows.. he guarentee'd it would be "above the fold"  today as long as there was no huge car crash on rt 95...
ah  that the usa would get over the 1 person 1 car syndrome..
and most of the time----that car is cap[able of carrying at least 4 people--the bus and trains in europe were soooo punctual it was spectacular  and so easy to use.
why do they have such a bad reputation here???  maybe because of the traffic jams caused by all the one person cars??
isn't that a catch 22?      it had to be congress' fault i am sure.

***********
ethyl  is doing better---george-- the vet-- is the worlds worst pessimist--- he told me yesterday he suspected rocky mt(and  his gut feels are usually right)  and that meant she might take a very long time on meds--- he was not willing to say either yes or no as to her abilities as a service dog...
she is the healthiest sick dog i have ever seen...  but her platelets are up and blood work generally better.  so we go on...

in the meantime-- bentley was called on to donate blood to a dog in surgery.. the office called and i said i would be right along-- with bentley and moriah as a back up-- he was no problem and tehy got their bag full-- and he a can of dog food..  we should hae a list on the file cabinet--- of accessable dogs for donating...  tasha-- george's dane is getting too old..  and heaven knows we have alot of donors here.  so i will put up a list on the file cabinet so if they call anyone will know who is available for donating.. and just run out the door... and will know when they donated last...
**********
also bentley's tail..is bleeding again... for all of you who said  "oh it is all healed"  well it is not... again..

 FROM SOMEONE
I SAW A POSTING ON FACEBOOK FROM AN ORGANIZATION IN ARIZONA WHO HAS SAID THAT THEY ARE GOING  TO BE GOING INTO PROVIDING  SERVICE DOGS FROM THEIR ORGANIZATION.  IT WAS HINTED AT IN THE COMMENTS THAT THEY ARE GOING TO BE AFFILIATED WITH YOU...JUST WONDERING IF THIS IS TRUE AN IF THERE IS ANYTHING THAT YOU ARE WILLING TO SHARE...

I DON'T KNOW WHO THAT IS.. BUT I HAVE OFFERED TO HELP ANYONE WANTING TO START  SERIOUSLY TRAINING DANES..  AND I DO SUGGEST THEY BE PART OF THIS ADI (WHICH IS DRIVING ME NUTS WITH THE ACCREDITATION  "PACKETS"...)
SO MY ANSWER IS .. I CAN'T REMEMBER.. BUT THERE IS NO "AFFILIATION" OTHER THAN THEY SHOULD BELONG TO ADI.. AND NOT USE OUR NAME TOO LIBERALLY...
**************
LIVELY NIGHT LAST NIGHT---WE..PAM... HAD GROMMET AND HIS 2 SISTERS IN THE HOUSE...WITH ALL THE REST...  PAM IS GOOOOOOD.
WE HAVE A HEATER PROBLEM IN THE LAUNDRY---
*************
I AM SURE YOU NEED ALL THE DETAILS-- IT REALLY IS AN EDUCATIONAL PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY...... SO ....

...2 WEEKS AGO MEGAN DETECTED A STRONG ODOR-- WE EVENTUALLY GOT GALOWAY TO COME-- THEY  ( THE OLD MAN GALOWAY) HAVE SERVICED OUR MONOTORS FOR YEARS- AND HE RETIRED SO THE "YOUNG GUY" ARRIVED AND SAID THE MONOTOR WAS USELESS JUNK  AND I BETTER BUY ANOITHER ( FROM HIM) SO I SAID NO.. WE HAD AN EXRA  MONITOR IN THE FEED ROOM SINCE WE PUT IN THE PROPER FURNACE- SO JUST SWAP THEM... WHCH HE DID- THROWING THE OLD ONE IN THE DUMPSTER-- OK.. NEXT DAY --SAME SMELL  --TURNS OUT IT IS PROBABLY-- ACCORDING TO  THE MONOTOR DESTRIBUTOR -- IN MAINE...---THE  VENTING PIPE THAT GOES THRU THE WALL  HAS BLOWN IT'S O RINGS PER THE AGE...-- AND THE TRASH MAN HAS ALREADY PICKED UP THE DUMPSTER...

THE YOUNG GUY HAD NO IDEA HOW TO FIGURE OUT WHY THE SMELL SO  HIS SOLUTION ...JUST PUT IN A NEW ONE...

BOY IF THAT DOES NOT DEMONSTRATE A HUGE EDUCATIONAL  PROBLEM IN THIS COUNTRY--
I AM THRILLED TO HAVE US BEFRIENDING CUBA-- WE DESPARATELY NEED THEIR INPUT... WHEN I SEE  ON TV...THE AGE OF AMERICAN CARS THAT THEY STILL HAVE RUNNING, THEY HAVE TO BE MECHANICAL GENIUSES --   SOMETHING WE ARE IN DESPARATE NEED OF...
SO I HAVE BEEN BEATEN INTO SUBMISSION-- WE NEED HEAT THAT CAN BE SERVICED BY SOME ORGANIZED COMPANY-- NOT TRACY WITH A COAT HANGER- UNDER MY DIRECTION FROM THE WARM HOUSE...--  SO THE CRANNEY COMPANY IS DUE HERE TODAY TO TRY AND FIGURE OUT A PROPER FURNACE FOR THAT BUILDING...  MY TREAT...

I VALUE WARMTH GREATLY... AND IF WE GO WITH GAS??? NOT MY FAVORITE --- BUT IT IS WORKING IN THE BARN...

THIS WOULD  GIVE US ... YET ANOTHER FULL  500 GALLON TANK OF KEROSENE-
SO THE NEXT QUESTION... HOW CLOSE IS DIESAL TO KEROSENE?? BECAUSE OUR 55 GAL DRUM OF DIESEL IS OUT...

ANY   OIL   EXPERTS OUT THERE???
********
CRANNEY CO JUST CALLED-- PLEASENT WOMAN-- CAN MICHAEL BE HERE IN 1/2 HOUR--
CERTAINLY !!!~.. I AM NOT GOING TO MAKE FUN OF SHEILA ( CRANNEY) FOR ESCAPING TO  FLORIDA ANY MORE... WELL NOT TOO MUCH.... WELL JUST A LITTLE..
************
I WILL GO DOWN TO THE LAUNDYR WHEN HE COMES... IN MY NEW SWEATSHIRT FROM YESTERDAY'S MAILCALL....
*********
AND I HAVE ALREADY DONE TH EPUBLISHER'S CLEARING HOUSE SEARCH FOR THE DAY... THEY SAID THEY WOULD GIVE ME $5000 A WEEK FOR LIFE IF I KEEP SEARCHING FOR THINGS... LIKE CALORIES THAT DO NOT FATTEN ME.....
*****
ALONG THOSE LINES  I HAVE PUT THE NUTROSYSTEM INCIDENTALS ON THE COUNTER FOR ALL TO "ENJOY"  -- GOT TO FINISH THEM UP SO THE NICE LADY  ON THE PHONE...DOESN'T GIVE ME H3LL FOR NOT EATING  WHAT IS REQUIRED...SO THEY CAN SEND ME MORE.
AT LEAST IT IS SOMETHING  ON HAND TO EAT WHEN IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM TO GO GET CHINESE FOOD  OR A PIZZA..-- LIKE THE MILITARY MRE'S  ( MEALS READY TO EAT").
***

TODAY I WILL BE LOOSING WEIGHT ANYWAY-- TRACY GAVE ME SOME BEAUTIFUL BOOTS TRACI ADAMS SENT THAT DID NOT FIT HER-- THEY FEEL REALLY GOOD... EXCEPT EACH BOOT WEIGHS 47 POUNDS -- SO I WILL GET MY EXERCISE..... IF I MOVE..

feb 17 2015
todays mental exercise... concerns the door to my bedroom.  it is square  ( i.e. 4 right angles)  so why does the living room light shine thru between it and the door frame?? and the light is not rectangular -- the top definitely has a tendency to be triangular-- a long one, but triangular..
i never noticed it before...  could it have anything to do withthe snow on the roof???
i have known for years the house is not "square"  -- it isn't really bad, but if the puppies piddle in the hall, the flood tends to pool on that sidee of the hall-- that is why when they put this floor down, i insisted they curve it up the wall an inch-- the man in charge of the floor job   asked "why would you want to do that?  when i told him "to keep the urine out of my bedroom"  he  had no further questons....... if i had my way-- and was building another house... i would tip it on purpose so i could hose it down and out some drain...

this house  a boyne falls log home  came in 3 tractor trailers with 3 guys who assembled it on the spot. i love the fact i can put nails anyewwhere and change nailholes with no concern...  the only bad thing is all the wood was depressing  dark brown---  until we put on the tv room with all the  windows..
now it really is very livable -- and forgiving...  unless it falls over with the snow...  believe me i am going to watch that triangel over my bedroom door

so if you see me up on a ladder in the hall with caliper in hand and i say i am trying to figure out  if the house is going to collapse-- remember  there is a logical reason.  there is alot of that stuff around here...
since mary got on the porch, it is so lopsided,  the porch pulled 3" away from the roof. and you get used to it...
that  along with the light switch in the upstairs  hall that controls the garbage disposal ( the electrician was a drinker)  these things make the place unique..
( actually there are switches up there i have never found out what they control).
 *************
my overnight light is the weather channel without sound.... so sonw is a big topic around here-  i tried building a push plow  out of wood for the tractor-- and it does work.. with snow that is pushable-- we are beyond that now...
but i got to thinking about plowing-- and how it is very annoying to push it arouynd with  teh bucket  which is then not the width of the tractor... if i  only had another foot  of snow tossed aside...

then bud suggested taking the back hoe off in the winter because the front wheels hardly touch the ground-- we can't do that because that is how i get myself unstuck-- which happens often...
so i was thinking back hoe... and how i can swing tht to the side at an angle and kick the snow  that falls off the bucket another foot-- clamp a  short piece of oak on that and i am really in business... a back hoe is pretty adjustable position wise...
i can hardl;y wait to try that...  and we have 3 inches due... fine for playing with  strange plows...
-****
my other discovery of the day is that  croutons made of texas toast with parm and garlec are nearly as good as chocolate for a people treat.  we hafe too much chocolate around here--- no more for a while ..please....
******
and i wonder what is holding up the re-accreditation  on 3/11//2014 i sent them $1000--  seems like they should  be able to respond somehow....  all i have had is "your dogs are wonderful- that is not the problem  it is the paperwork...." - well we are not in the business of producing perfect paperwork..
************
no vomit report-- ethyl is eating well-- even eating pills withthe spoon bit... more blood sample today...

DEAR CARLENE,
I WAS JUST LOOKING AT THE MOST RECENT PICTURE THAT TINA SHONK POSTED ON SDP EPW FACEBOOK OF THE HARL PUPPY YOU ARE GETTING. SHE'S BEAUTIFUL. HER FOREHEAD HAS THE LOOK OF A LIGHT BURST ALMOST LIKE A FLASHLIGHT BEAM SHINING IN THE MIDST OF HER SPOTS.

I THOUGHT OF THE NAME LUMINOSITY (FOR HER RADIANT LIGHT FEATURE)  . YOU COULD CALL HER MINNIE FOR SHORT :) (ed: i like lumie --- her litter could be osities... as in curi )
BE WELL, STAY WARM AND COZY.
AS ALWAYS WE APPRECIATE ALL THAT YOU SELFLESSLY DO TO HELP OTHERS.

SINCERELY,

Just checking in to let you know that Pandora is doing great.  Buffalo is doing better than your area for inches of snow but it's -26 degrees wind chill.  Pandora goes outside, dances around and comes running right back in.  Our 13 year old chocolate lab, Mocha, is like a tank and just plows through the 3 feet of snow and cold.  Labs are so funny that way.
When we let the dogs out they run out the door and have three steps before they are on the ground.  Now it's the pattern that Pandora jumps over Mocha LENGTH wise, its amazing.
OK for the wonderful work Pandora is doing being a fabulous failure.  I will start taking her to the classrooms at the elementary level in March.  I have a couple of teachers very interested in helping me get her use to the little ones. She still isn't comfortable with their height and rapid movements.  So the one teacher has a small special education class, so that's where we will start.  Those children deserve to be the first anyway considering they deal with life so much better than most of us who are not considered "special".   Pandora is getting better around other dogs.  My son has a lab puppy that has been coming around the last 7 months and playing with Pandora.  Now they actually roll around and run together.  In the beginning Pandora didn't really know what play was, and she would just sit and watch the puppy.  Mocha is just too old to play anymore.  My husband Mike thinks Pandora need another fabulous failure to play with her!!!!
Pandora is still going to the district office with me almost everyday.  My new superintendent is not very friendly toward her so I make sure they don't come in contact very often.  He is very tall and a very big man, so of course Pandora grumbled at him the first time they met.  Life is funny that way.  I have people come in and out of my office all day just to pet Pandora, give her a treat and let her work her magic.  They leave relaxed and smiling so she is doing a fantastic job.  She also likes to visit nursing homes, and being so tall no one in wheel chairs have to bend down to pet her.  I have to admit we haven't been going because of the weather, it's just so cold!  We will get back soon.  When we picked up Pandora she was about 100 lbs, now she goes 110 lbs and the vet likes that weight.  She turns 3 on March 20th and believe or not she is getting a little white on her face.
Shelley and Giddy stopped by the office the other day and they are doing just fantastic.  I cried when I say them come out of the elevator, both doing terrific together.  I haven't seen Shelley and her husband that happy in awhile.  You are a miracle worker, pairing these wonderful dogs with their perfect match.  Shelley had funny stories about the farm and I felt so proud of SDP.  Thank you again for everything you and everyone at the farm do for the rest of us.  It's amazing.  You look at a dog such as Pandora, knowing she won't be a service dog and find a way to make her into an angel that makes a difference everyday.  See you soon,
Debbie, Mike and Pandora from Buffalo

i sent her the story of tiffany and the one little girl she hated out of 100,000  and she could pick her out of the crowd 1 year later...
