how can i be so stupid?  let me count the ways....

actually  i don't have time-- there are soooooo many....

having  missed 4 nights sleep, i just slept 11.5 hours soo
my head is alive  with the sound of music
and i'll type one more.... DD

but it will be a short daily dogggie... i have work to do.

bentley just left with lynn for his  surgery...  he met with  the surgeon yesterday..
i know vets are very careful to say teh nicest cute things about the  most scruffy  dogs
but the most complimentary thing she could say about bentley is "what??????"

when they asked for his medical record... all i have is rabies shots...
the dr could not believe a 9-10 year old dane with no problems...
and then another compliment. she would love one of our pet pups..

so ... there i am sitting in th eeye dr's chair with my chin on  that thing...
and she is complaining about the $250 she just paid for a  physical exam
before she cou d get her dogs  rabies shot. i bolted upright and said what is the matter with the fire department $2 ?
then the worst part...  "how do i know my dog is helathy?"  .. and i started my spheile
"and you are a medical doctor dealing with my eyes?????"
observe.... eats.. drinks.. pees...poops .. runs around on all 4 legs..doesnt smell bad...
if you have any  other questions take their temp. and you will cover 99%

they are going to die----- probably before you
give themn a happy life and when it is over  let them sleep.

why did i get into that  as benny is on the way out th e door for anesthesia..
he should do fine
welllll... i did say ... while he is out. if you could do his teeth and anal glands i would appreciate it.
one end or the other does have a fuuny smell
of all the fancy hospital that is... they could not do open surg and germy teeth..
but they did want to do xrays and altrasounds of all parts to see if they could find any problems./

which brings me to ... he is happy helathy.. don't go looking for problems to make me miserable...
ignorance is bliss
it is also ... in some cases.. expensive

MAR 30 2021

mail call and tipi's-- last night at mail call with cindy , a discussion developed about puppies and how they will need an outdoor running place.. with shade
and toys... in the "collecting place in my head, i had stored a hard pipe.. or plastic tube for "under training"
ustabeeeeee. we had the "V" pen next to the "T" tent ( once known as the "ice tea tent" )--- but that area has become the "yolk house" for the chickens.. we had in front of the "T" tent the "grandchilds " playpen. 10 x 20 where janine would put her child.. colby... so he would not get knocked over by the dogs... colby is now 6'2" football player at univ of nh... where getting knocked over is considered less dangerous than being knocked over by a dog...  however.. the grandchild's playpen could be enlarged to maybe 20 x 20.. but it leaves the question of. shade....

chasing shady places around here is a touchy matter. so putting up a"market umbrella" which i have done still leaves teh problem of trying to leep a puppy shaded when the shade moves as teh sun goes east to west.... usually. so how to define a shaded area for the pups to understand??? - ?? a tipi" !!!  where the sides are climbunderable, yet the area would be defineable.

i have had many tipi's in my career around here... there is a tipi bible. by gladys laubin. ( or something like that.) a proper tipi os a magnificent study in function and organization -- built to stand the blizzards and sandstorms of  the state of .... wherever they have blizzards and sandstorms.

2021 3 30

You enter and circle to the right around the firepit in the middle... on th right a- is the kitchen paraphernalia  AND THE FIRWOOD IS KEPT TO THE LEFT....There are two pieces of Indian etiquette I've always enjoyed ----one is ---always assume that your guest is tired cold and hungry ----the other one is basically the TP is a woman's thing which she could put up ---what is a permanent residence --- in about an hour supposedly by herself
then..... if she wants to divorce her husband all she has to do is throw him out the door--- case closed ... so back to putting up a TP for the dogs.... there is one way an only one way to get the first three poles up correctly if you do it right the tripod becomes tremendously stable if you do it wrong you could never make adjustments to make it correct .. with that in mind I once asked my twin nephews who are very bright to put up my. 27 foot TP ....these are the twin nephews who were famous for running around mailcall with various feminine parts to a mannequin as they tried to put doloris together .. they finally got the huge tipi up---- I think it was three days and they now have a lot more appreciation for Indian women .

I haven't put mine up alone. ...in an hour....  certainly not in a contiguous hour but carefully done it doesn't take much longer ..  my TP polls are 27 feet long it  was a big teepee
you take your heaviest pole put it in the middle of the canvas semicircle and roll it all together and tie it on and that becomes your lift pole which explains why it only takes an hour to finish ... you then take three polls for your initial tripod ---lay the rest of the poles maybe 10 or 12 of them against the tripod .. then take your lift pole and put it in the very center of the back untie it and wrap the canvas and you're pretty much have a  permanent house to live in --the front gets laced together with number 2 pencils whatever .. you have two more poles to hold the chimney flaps open.. and you're ready to let people in or out of your teepee .. officially there is also a curtain or drape which hangs on the inside of all your poles about 6 foot high.   and that causes the draft to circulate air /smoke or anything else -------the whole thing is very efficient and can be warm and cozy .
So back to our dog pen --- the one problem with having a TP for the dogs is they are inclined to chew on it and eat it but we'll have to deal with that ---I proposed to have  a much shorter TV this time and have it be 7 to 8 feet tall ..  now it would be possible to buy the TP canvas or painted with galloping horses and rising Suns and moons and that's how it gets into thousands of dollars or buy a tarp for about $32 ..resurrect my collection of golf balls and hey string to use to hold it down ...and sitting there with Cindy and the hundred people are so that we're watching Mail call it was decided that the $32 tarp with golf balls holding it down was far more appropriate for crazy acres than. the official absolutely beautiful TP canvas which the dogs would eat anyway

...it was also requested that Cindy and I be the ones to put that TP  together .. because we are somewhat famous for getting all screwed up assembling various things people send us aT email .. so we have golf balls..  we have hey string   I have ordered a canvas that is 8 by 20   for $32 .. and I don't know exactly what I want to use to the polls ..the polls are critical and they certainly could be bought online I'm sure Amazon has them but there that is something like PVC pipe but that might actually have a bend that would not be good so I WILLresearch the poll problem----- what an Indian would do is go out into the Woods and that awful lot of small absolutely perfectly straight beginner trees which is what the Indians would do but I'm beyond stripping the bark off trees hopefully----- the polls make the TP more interesting an 8 foot tall TP would need 10 at least 10 foot poles ..the cheap the cheapest way out would be a package of strapping I would really make it a jerryrig TP but that would be very quick and very easily done--- I hVE  plenty of rope ..
I also darn well better get the topsoil spread in the seed down so that we have a nice grassy place for RTP because right at the moment it's full of stone dust from being ploughed up .
I have a special request of everyone if they could please give me 10 days of not suggesting any doors be open  OR shUt----- lights on  or off  --cameras turned and twisted or anything like that as I have some details to take care of and I'm not going to have time to explain why we don't have time to change a lightbulb in kennel 10 or something like that I do appreciate the help in running the joint but right at the moment .. I need a little time
today is bentley's day to go I don't know whether they're planning on doing surgery today or not but his masculine appendages I've just played gotten out of control I have known for two years that there's some kind of problem they don't seem to bother him at all except they are so large now that his appearance in public is sometimes questionable and he certainly he's 10 or 11 years old .. surgery is not to be taken lightly but he seems to be in excellent health and that's what's happening today  ..
he is npo from midnight. And not happy about that.
I hope I get some help with this.  Cov. You sit outside the vet office  and wait.  Lotsa tiem to get organized..

Boy do I love these reporters notebooks  with squares instead of lines—sort of external memory devices... as oi sit/nap in my car..
And  yes.. the  unidentified phone number rand again last night  at 2:00...2:03... 2:06.  Etc.   caller block did not work... so I am 4 nights now   with little sleep.   between prego donkeys and that phone which is registered to a storage unit in Haverhill....

COPY PASTING...

I don't remember how I started my days before DD's. I wait for it to hit my inbox before I lift a finger. There's usually a chuckle and something to provoke thought that makes a good starting place in the morning so I thank you for that.
My MS treatment is an immune system depressant so social distancing has been quite a serious thing for Ned & I. We go to the beach and hiking trails at the parks and head off to the underused areas to avoid people. I actually worried a bit about how Ned would react when we began being around other people again. We have gone to a few stores in early morning hours to avoid crowds and even went to an outdoor restaurant for the first time in well over a year.  I don't know why I worried, Ned hasn't forgotten a thing. He behaves perfectly in public.
Ned is quite the celebrity at the State Parks where we do volunteer clean up on Wednesdays. At one of the parks we work way off the beaten path near the water where Hurricane Sally deposited a lot of debris from destroyed homes To reach those areas we are assigned the parks 4 wheelers which only have a small bench seat.

It's quite a feat for both that long, tall boy and me to squeeze in. We get so many waves and laughs as we pass park visitors with Ned trying to sit like a human with those jowls flapping in the breeze. We go in the middle of nowhere. Ned explores nearby while I pick up debris. He's always keeping a watchful eye and comes running if I call his name or if he sees me down in the sand. Sometimes I need to get down to dig something out of the sand and sometimes the sand just gets the better of my poor balance and down I go.  I could have never helped with this type of activity before Ned. Sand was my kryptonite. Without him to hold on to I'd fall within a few steps on the loose beach sand. Now we go several times a week. I know you hear this all the time but it's 100% true, he changed the whole course of my life. I often think of what a fluke that you thought of training service dogs when you found yourself with Dane puppies. I'm just one of the many who are so thankful you had the insight and perseverance to make it happen. Thanks to SDP and the incredible CP's who make it happen.

MAR 29 2021

WE ARE ALL PRE Arthritic...I HAVE TOLD THIS BEFORE... SOORRY....  WHEN I WAS TRYING TO BUY AN EVENT HORSE FOR JANINE.... I HEARD OF A QUARTERHORSE... LOOKED GOOD... AND I WAS HAVING COFFEE THAT MORNING WITH CONNIE THIBEAULT-- DVM--- SO OLD, THAT PART OF HIS FAME WAS HAVING AN ALCHOHOL PERMIT WHEN PROHIBITION. WAS IN FORCE... CONNIE WAS A CHARACTER.. IN MY CaREER I HAD SO MANY HORSES "VETTED" AND EVERY TIME  FOR LACK OF ANYTHING BETTER , THE VET WOULD ALWaysS LEAVE HIMSELF AN OUT BY SAYING " THIS HORSE IS PRE NAVICULIAR.." --AND THEN YOU WOULD ASK FOR AN XRAy of the. navicular  bones in the foot.   then one day another horse friend suggested i just throw some item on the film on the ground... just to be sure it was  your xrray.... which i did... and my heavens wasn't that the xray film that did not develope correctly so he could not give it to me... which is why i gave up having a horse "vetted" and asked connie to go with me to look at this quarterhorse...  AS I STOOD THERE WITH CONNIE WATCHING THE. HORSE MOVE, CONNIE SAID " IF YOU DON'T BUY HIM, I WILL.. OF COURSE YOU KNOW HE IS PRE ARTHRITIC..... WE ALL ARE"

WHICH BRINGS UP CHAOS... GETTING UP THERE.. BUT A GAME OLD GAL....  LAST NIGHT SHE SLID BACK AGAINST THE BACK OF THE SOFA SO HER LEGS WERE SLIGHTLY HIGHER THAN THER BACKBONE....  IN A HORSE YOU WOULD HAVE SAID SHE WAS "CAST" .. AND COULD NOT GET HER LEGS UNDER HERSELF .. SO IN AN EFFORT TO GT HER STRAIGHTENED OUT.. AND ALSO IN MY PJ'S  I GOT HER FRONT FEET ON THE FLOOOR AND BACK LEGS UNTANGLED FROMT EH FLUFFIES... AT WHICH TIME SHE WALKED OFF AND GOT A DRINK AND WENT TO THE LOWER BED IN THE OFFICE...(AND DO MAKE NOTE.... SHE HAD NOT WET THE BED)

I AM TOLD THERE ARE CP'S WHO ARE SUGGESTING MEDICATION AND LINDA WANTING TO BE A GOOD DOGGIE MOM... ASKED ABOUT THEM..BOTH DRUGS I HAVE HEARD OF BUT NEEDED INFO... ONE A  SIEZURE/ PAN MED OFTEN CAUSES DROWSY... THE  OTHER  SUPPOSED TO BE A JOINT THING WHICH FOR A START MIGHT CAUSE DIARRHEA  FOR A WEEK TIL SHE GETS USED TO .

I SUGGESTED NO... WE HAVE AT THE MOMENT A HEALTHY  OLD GAL WHO HAD ALOT OF PUPPIES WHO MAY HAVE WEAKENED A FEW CRITICAL MUSCLES ON OCCASION ... ( BUT NOT ALWAYS) ------ TO TREAT WHAT SHE MIGHT DEVELPE.    WE STAND A CHANCE OF ADDING  DIARRHEA TO THE MESS AND MAKEING A DOG WHO SLEEPS 23 HOURS A DAY.. BECOME DROWSY.?????   ..... WE WOULD TEHN HAVE TO GIVE HER SOMETHING  TO MAKE HER MORE THIRSTY BECAUSE BEING DROWSY SHE WAS NOT DRINKING ENOUF\GH....  MAYBE CAFFEEN TO WAKE HER UP,  A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS TO STOP UP HER EXCITED BOWELS. ...
WE WOULD TEHN HAVE TO DO BLOOD STUDIES TO GET A BASE LINE ON SOMETHING -- AND THEN CHECK THEM EVERY 6 MONTHS.... THERE WOULD BE NO END.

WELL.. THERE IS AN END... AND SHE IS NOT THERE YET.... PLEASE.....  YOU GIVE A DOG A HAPPY LIFE AND WHEN IT IS OVER ,AND SLEEP WOULD BE PREFERRED, THEY WILL TELL YOU.

WHAT YOU REALLY DON'T  WANT  TO  DO IS LET WHAT MIGHT HAPPEN RUIN YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THE DOG..  WHICH I HAVE SEEN FAR TOO OFTEN.

CHAOS IS FULL OF LUMPS. - I SEE NO REASON TO HAVE THEM BIOPSIED-- BECAUSE AT HER AGE I DON'T WANT TO RISK TEH ANESTHESIA...
WHICH THEN BRINGS US TO BENTLEY..... PERFECTLY HEALTHY EXCEPT FOR HIS MASCULINE APPENDAGES... WHICH I HAVE BEEN "WATCHING "FOR  THE PAST 2 YEARS...  HOWEVER... THESE HAVE  GOT SOOOO BIG THAT HE SOON MIGHT TRIP OVER THEM--- AND HE IS PERFECTLY HEALTH OTHERWISE...  SO WE ARE GOING  FOR EITHER SURGERY OR PRE OP  TOMORROW... AND I KNOW THE VET WILL TAKE ONE  LOOK AND SAY "WHATY ON EARTH WERE YOU THINKING???"
AND I WAS THINKING... WITH  THAT AILMENT HE MIGHT NOT LAST LONG... AND HE WAS/IS COMFORTABLE.....  HOWEVER... THE PURE SIZE IS FORCING THE ISSUE.
STAY TUNED....

Hi Carlene,

Your recent DD made me think about leashes, and an encounter during our quick trip to NYC this week...

I essentially never use Seagram’s leash because there is no need. I am constantly talking to her and that communication works so well! And she knows right from left better than I do, so it’s rather funny when I accidentally say “turn right, please” but my body begins heading left, so of course she heads left, too — and sometimes when this occurs, she will break her typical vigilant surveillance of the path forward to look up at me with this “silly human” look ever-so-briefly, to remind me that she knows better than I do :)
...so because she is much smarter than I am, and we communicate well, I can leave the leash threaded through a loop on her harness. The only time we use the leash is when there is a “hand off” — like when my husband handles her while I do an MRI. I take the leash out of its’ loop and hand it to my husband, to signal that she should go with him as I ask her to do so. She looks at me, concerned, so I promise to be extra careful without her, and she reluctantly turns to go with my husband. However, as we say goodbye, I always ask her to “watch over Daddy,” since I know she is the smarter of the pair ;)

On to the little story:
Seagram and I were in NYC, walking back from Radiology. I stopped off to the side on the sidewalk because I had to contact my doctors office, so they could enter an order for a procedure that I had to urgently schedule. It was nearly closing time there, and this could not wait until the next day because we were in the city so briefly. Seagram was less than a foot away from me, as is usual.

An elderly woman approached, leaning heavily on her stroller (and with no child in there, I think it was a stroller for her dog, a little ball of white fluffy fury straining at the leash, as though the dog was propelling this woman down the street with its’ energy because the elderly owner had so little of her own). She glared at me from about 10’ away, but I pretended not to notice as I messaged the doctor’s office...

“Is your dog on a leash?” she questioned in a nasty tone, when it was obvious that Seagram had a leash, but that I was not holding onto it at the moment because both hands were on my phone as I typed — all the while the white fluffy dog was sputtering as it strained on its’ leash from now about 8’ away. It was actually quite funny to compare stately Seagram, standing perfectly peacefully next to me, with this angry dog the size of her head, that the owner could barely control.

“She is wearing a leash,” I stated matter-of-factory, as I briefly looked up, trying not to engage.

“Well, you know, your dog has to be on a leash...” and she went on, and on, while I was still typing.

So I walked Seagram to the other side of the sidewalk, which was quite wide, wide enough to get out of the path of the woman and the nasty little dog, mostly out of concern that Seagram might get nipped at the heels — and of course I walked using the handle on the harness, not the leash. I placed Seagram on the other side of me, so if the dog acted out, I could hopefully intervene, although I wasn’t sure how.

As we were walking, I said, “Don’t lecture me about leash laws, when my dog is perfectly under control, while you can barely manage yours on a leash.” And after briefly noting the shock on her face, I looked down to finish the last sentence of my message to the doctor’s office.

They walked by us in the other direction, and when they were several feet past us, the little fury turned around and started snarling with all the force its’ little body could muster. “Well there you go, there’s going to be trouble,” the woman said ominously...

I just wanted to laugh, and I think Seagram did too, as though she was thinking, “See that dog? I guess we’re kinda related — just like that obnoxious distant, distant cousin that you have to invite over occasionally for holidays, even though you have nothing in common.” Ok, maybe I embellished there, but Seagram clearly thought that dog’s behavior was inappropriate.

“There is no trouble, my dog is perfectly behaved,” I replied, holding back what I really wanted to say because as a service dog handler, I am on good behavior — or at least, I really try to represent SD handlers well. Finally I hit “send” to the doctor’s office and we walked on, still hearing that nasty dog in the background for a little while.

I was incredibly proud of Seagram, as I told her while we walked, and thanked her for being such a professional — and I am always so proud of her!

PEOPLE !   I WOKE UP THIS MORNING TO HEAR PEOPLE ARE FLOCKING TO ICELAND TO  SEE THE MOUNTAINS EXPLODE--- SEEMS MORE SENSABLE TO ME THAT  ANYONE  WITH ANY SENSE WOULD AVOID ICELAND FOR JUST THAT REASON...

HOW ABOUT..... "HISTORY REPEATS ITSELF"
PEOPLE  REFUSE TO BELIEVE SCIENCE.....AND BEHAVE LIKE SHEEP RUSHING OFF A CLIFF..

WHAT I WANTED TO WATCH ON TV IS THE CONTAINER SHIP WEDGED IN THE SUEZ CANAL.. NOT ONLY ALL THE GYRATIONS TRYING TO GET IT UNSTUCK... BUT WHO/ HOW MANY ARE DECIDEING TO GO AROUND AFRICA AS CHEAPER  AND POSSIBLY QUICKER THAN WAITING.

WHAT A GREAT OPPORTUNITY FOR A STUDY IN A LOT OF THINGS.. TEHY STARTED SAYING IT WAS A SAND STORM BUT NOW THEY ARE INTRODUCING "HUMAN ERROR".  I DON'T KNOW HOW MANY PEOPLE Are on  AND DRIVING those monstrer SHIPS... BUT  SOMEWHERE I HAVE HEARD. IT IS NOT MANY... SO I GOOGLED...WHICH SAID  A CREW OF 25 EARNING ABOUT $20 AN HOUR....   IT HAS TO HAVE BEEN SOMEONE'S IDEA TO HAVE 25  PEOPLE INSTEAD OF 26..

2021 3 28--DICTATED PART

I AM AT IT AGAIN   I am sorely afraid we are being taught a bbbbbiiiiggggg lesson.    ”. FOR WANT OF A NAIL THE SHOE WAS LOST.. THEN THE HORSE THEN THE GENERAL, THE War, and the kingdom ---all for want of a nail ” – what we may find out is that the guy driving the ship had to go to  the rest room... and there were only 25 people on board... being minus a 26th  person at $20 an hour---  to hold. that wheel steady, the entire world economy  has been forced to a standstill --- -in my small world, for want of a responsible trash m\collector my world could quickly be in big trouble. ------ Or for want of a truck driver MY supply of roumaine lettuce  would  not make it across the Mississippi river....  OR  OnTO the supermarket shelf by a guy making less than $10.00 an hour .

 ----

There are an awful lot of businessman in suits and ties making decisions that are just too far removed on the real world of science .. there's an awful of  any problem    we should have believed but we didn't want to believe it .. plus we just didn't have the facts and one of the reasons we didn't have facts is   as a whole nation we don't have scientists  nor do we have enough respect for the logic  taught BY SCIENCE at a young age... and that's the cause (-------all this is a good one specially when I was young ----).  all the grade school teachers we're women who said. " oh I never I never liked arithmetic and science. "    back then a science  education was virtually unheard of .So we. humans as a group  have an awful lot of ideas stuck in our heads that are absolutely not true .. but it certainly is very comfortable not to even  think about it . so we don't . granted there are times ------like pertaining to vaccines----we have to apply the percentages .. and  ? are vaccines 100% ?  no   ----however if a vaccine is 99% effective and 1% ineffective .. why on earth would anyone refuse to be vaccinated because --- I am so special I must be the 1% ---  I am not going to fall off my motorcycle so I don't need to wear a helmet ---I can cope with texting while driving so I'll do it no one's going to stop me .........except maybe a great big tree ..

I think we are due for A TIME OF  A CREATIVITY AND REALITY. CHECK......WE --should pay attention does some of the things being taught to us----  like commuting is not necessary .. I don't know what everybody's gonna do with all those great big buildings in the center of every town ??____---so maybe make them homeless shelters .??

bringing to mind another favorite expression of mind you cannot accelerate at the rate with which you can decelerate ...I devised that expression when I had a 6 horse trailer  and. 3 tthree of the horses rode backwards and three forwards .. so in my mind I always put my most expensive horses were there rear toward the front ..in case we had a quick stop .

DOES THAT APPLY TO POPULATION????The accelaration of population has finally reached the point of deceleration ? ACCELLERATION ONE PERSON EVERY 9 MONTHS AND ONE LESS IN 2 HOURS.???

--

I AM VERY COMFORTABLE NOT WORRYING ABOUT  ONE MORE $20 PER HOUR TO KEEP THAT SHIP STRaight.
SO I WON'T WORRY --I will  go eat ice cream ...  UNTIL I REALIZE TEH  WIDGET WHICH MAKES MY CAR RUN IS STUCK OVER BY INDIA SOMEWHERE.

BENTLEY COMES HOME TODAY   FOR MORE FOOTPRINTS.

I THINK I Have noticed. .....A DONKEY IN LABOR DOES NOT EAT

hay STEADILY... OR FLICK HER EARS... OR SCRATCH HER SIDE.... she concentrates. ... in my opinion...
i'e been wrong before... but i have also been in labor..... you don't do anything but push/
----
speaking of being stuck... i am fascinated by the suez canal- and the cargo ship stuck sideways-- there is an almost comical photo of that huge ship and a tiny back how digging next to it.
hingsthe worldwide confusion this is causing is astronomical.... not just the ships on either side. but the 8 lanes of trucks lined up in france .. and somehow you don't think it would affect any normal life.... but camera mark was here photographing things and saying he had been notified of the delay in supplies for his pokerchip business...
-------
which brings to mind "mr moon"-- china has a darn good process for finding manufacturing capabilities for just about anything you need-- i know of a slight resource inamish country... who have specialities... but mr moon. can locate anything, the deal is... you send him a copy of what you want... within a week or so he will send you a sample.. which if yo approve-- and order.... maybe 300. you will have them on your door within a month. i did that with the fuzzy harness we use for balance on our danes...
and tehn i got 300 of teh tote bag/horse nosebag feeder. tina... calif.. was/is... my connection to manage him...--- here is his info. just in case you are needing 50 widgits.

so back to donkeys--- r finally rode around "A" field yesterday--- it is a lovely loop for running dogs.. but it does need a clean up
the fallen twigs and pine cones are out of control.... and tehn i thought of... donkeys. with pack saddles and tote bags could tote alot of pine cones....
we had pack saddles once for all 8... some got given away ... but they might be some in the hay loft. which will need a clean out if we end up getting 20 tons of hay.
i have some homework to do on that...
--
it is wonderful to be out on the golf cars again...
paula has gone home... so we are 63 days from puppy litter #2. hopefully..

how good are our dogs???? the last 2 dogs we had at the emergency vet... scarlott and sizzle....
both doctors who saw those dogs asked to be put on our list of available pups... what better recommendation ???

have teeth--- the dentist was almost a comidy of coverings.. between waiting in the car til called for temp taken to cover after cover.. i have teeth where once i had holes of fillings long gone. i was afraid to go til 2 shots and 2 weeks..

a guy named paul called... connected to kuranda.  we have alot of his kuranda dog beds... and they are great--- dogs do not like to lay on th e floor any more than i do. i dunno why... but these do work well.. are handy / stashable and cleanupable --- at about 6 inches off the floor... they are a baby dog's first "under" experience and eventually they are outside lollygag in the sun type beds.. you can see quite a few on the puppy hill camera. with unreasonable use... like a 178 pound dog with a 200 pound person sitting on the bed... the cloth will sometimes tear..... but with just the dogs ...perfect... well almost..... we do use many of them outside and they will collect rain... you can get ones made of net which drain.. but with solid ones we do have to make a neat tiny slit dead center to let teh rain out.

speaking of lettting the rain out... then there is teh donkey cafe tarp. .. now it is lovely to buy tarps with neat little grommets along the edges for tie downs... i think they put those in for the photographs.. because in the real world of any breeze at all.. them grommets ain't worth a damn-- altho if you are psycologically addicted to grommets they can be replace with a $2.29 grommet repair kit at home depot.... so they will break again... let me suggest... there is no duplication for a golf ball and hay string---- that will hold. for those of you not familiar with the technique... put a golf ball... or small rock.. under teh tarp..tighten a loop around it... and that will hold... if anything does.-- and while you are at it, run a hose on thtarp, and any place that even suggests water will collect, needs to have a slit. for drainage...  that will increase the useful life of the tarp by years !
i remember the first time i saw gallon water jugs hanging from a tarp -- holding it down--yet allowing lift if it got tooo windy... i was shocked to think? .. how come i never thought of that before..

dripping rain.... i am not a great fan of teh barrels to collect rainwater.. some have a very unique tip off deal .. so teh first part of the rain off the roof gets tipped on the ground... thus washing off whatever the birds did on the roof. at least that is the theory.

so horses... and water... i have watched sooo many horses drink out of all kinds of water collection devices... and. they are good at it. they sink thir lips about 1/2 inch.. which avoids anything floating and draws the middle part without involving the sunken stuff... and most everything either sinks or floats. they can get water out of a fairly shallow puddle.

I like rain it kind of cleans everything up how else  do you wash a mattress that somepup has inadvertently peed on except to put it leaning up against the fence and collecting it about two weeks later-- we have the need for that kind of thing now that chaos is just getting older somehow having a lot of children means that in later life they're going to have to deal with an overflow situation .. which properly managed is not a problem .. this is one thing we use all those puppy pads for ..  and any monstrous use of them can be reduced to minor problem by putting them out on the fence in the rain ..the monstrous use of them now is getting to be if chaos drips three drips then larky who is very enthusiastic but not sure what he's supposed to do about anything comes in and pees on top of it .. this increases the amount of laundry we have to do considerably and it's not just the dryer electricity .. the use of water is horrendous around here .. so the fence is in the rain it is lovely ..

This bit about urine being a communication device is not often studied by normal people but if sizzles goes out and makes a puddle Bentley will end up standing behind her waiting for her to finish so he can drip a little bit on top of it and after him Germany will come rushing in from the sideways to drip on top of whatever Bentley did with a bunch of dogs particularly young ones that aren't too sure about things you get quite a lineup before sizzle has to back be on top of everybody else  and I've always wondered as I watched male dogs lift their legs higher and higher whether that's some sort of bragging other height or capability ..
I better quit there .

I've also spent hours studying barking of dogs and there are sequences and I've tried barking back at the dog to see whether I could get any sort of recognition ---in the hundreds of pages of nighttime barking notes that Lynn did  there is definitely a sequence where a puppy will come out of the barn move their bowels bark once and go back in the barn and be quiet -then there is the sequence where they bark once and wait a split second and then bark again that seems to be to see whether anybody has answered them  at a normal dog or normal grest dane any rate have the conversation of the combinations of 1 two or three barks rarely anymore .
dogs in general have a terrible reputation for barking because most dogs are put in a cage or kennel and are frustrated and that's when you get the constant constant barking we work overtime to never have that ..and one way is our dogs have never been in a crate they have never been tide up to a tree or anything else if we want them to go away from us and stop bothering us they are often told to go lie down somewhere and they do and that leaves no barrier between the dog and the person which is what causes the frustration of so many dogs .. if I hear a dog on our property go at it for more than one minute and somebody's gotta go figure out what's the matter because that dog is just alerting us to something which is what as a service dog they're going to be responsible for doing .. I should have made a list long ago of some of the things our dogs have done most notably at the moment is the service dog that went and collected the post man back to the guys house because he had fallen and couldn't get up ...or the dog who went and got someone out of the garden because someone's electric wheelchair had rammed the patient under the bathroom sink ..these are not things I've taught but these are things that our dogs do on a very regular basis and I think it comes from allowing the dogs to think without restraining them behind chain link fence too much or tying them to a rope we're having a leash that's tight that's another thing that we don't allow around here is you don't restrict a dog with a leash .. you talk to them and explain to them what supposed to happen leash is there because people think it's supposed to be and it would be an emergency break if it if needed but if you watch Bella come down the stairs in that famous video she's dropped the leash and don't even have all of it .. so I make all of our leashes for recipients about 24 inches long because so many of the kids just playing drop him and I don't want them walking on them .. plus the fact there's no reason for a dog on a leash to be anymore than 6 inches from you anyway ..
so there you have it .. if you let the dog get 6 feet in front of you they're going to pull keep them by your side and they'll be well behaved even Caesar says that . he must have learned it from me. I'm older .
