WHO KNEW???
--AND IT IT BEGINNING TO FEEL LIKE FALL-- EXCEPT WHEN IT IS 90 DEGREES...  BUT THERE AE LEAVES TURNING IN PLACES...
MY MOTHER-- OF PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE FAME-- SAID THE TREES THAT TURN EARLY ARE NOT HEALTHY.

WE HAVE A LEAF CAMERA YOU REALIZE.... THERE IS A CAMERA ON THE END OF THE T TENT LOOKING UP AT THE TREES--- I HAVE NOT CHECKED LATELY-- BUT THE CAMERA IS STILL PHYSICALLY THERE...  AND  THE LITTLE PHOTO IN THE EXPLORE GROUP IS "LEAF FALL"  WHICH I JUST CHECKED- AND IT IS OFF CAMERA NOW..

THE BLURB ALONG SIDE THE  CURRENTLY BLACK SCREEN DESCRIBES THE CHANGE OF COLORS IN ONE SPECIFIC TREE....   NEVER NOTICED....NOW I WILL HAVE TO WATCH THAT...

LEARN SOMETHING NEW EVERY DAY....
****************
I WAS VERY PLEASED TO SEE THAT MARALYN ( WHO WAS HERE YESTERDAY) HAD TRIED TO WRAP HER SANDWICH IN A PIECE OF WRAP THAT SHE HAD TORN OFF TOO SHORT.... AND SHE REMEMBERED THE NUTTY IDEA  THAT  I DID LAST FRIDAY OF TURNING IT MORE DIAGONALLY  AND  IT WORKED...
**************
THAT HAS "GONE AROUND" --- AS HAS THE REACTION TIME OF DROPPING A YARDSTICK BETWEEN SOMEONE'S FINGERS AS A TEST OF REACTION TIME-- THEN RYA DN DO IT WHILE TYPING ON THE PHONE WITH YOUR OTHER HAND..... REALLY DEMO'S WHY NOT TO TEXT IN A MOVING CAR AND I GET REPORTS ON IT'S USE.
***************

WE NEED TO STOCK UP ON FROZEN PEAS---ASIDE FROM THROWING THEM IN THE STEWS... THEY ARE VERY HANDY TO APPLY TO INJURIES...OF WHICH WE HAD ONE YESTERDAY
STEVE WAS WEED WHIPPING ON THE ISLAND AND STRUCK A G ROUND WASP NEST--- THEY ARE REALLLLLLLY BAD  AND HE RAN OFF THE ISLAND BATTING AWAY -- BUT STILL GOT STUNG 4 TIMES-- THE ONE ON HIS EAR WAS PARTICUARLY PAINFUL.. I MUST DON A TYVEK SUIT AND GO HAVE A LOOK AT IT TODAY... IT WOULD BE FUN... IF I WAS YOUNGER AND MORE AGILE  TO THROW A NET OVER THIER EXIT HOLE, THE SCOOP THEM ALL UP AND THROW THEM IN THE POND.  I HAVE HAD VERY LITTLE LUCK WITH  THOSE AND  CHEMICALS... EXCEPT MAYBE  KEROSENE AND A MATCH

WHICH BRINGS TO MIND THE STORY......OF MOSQUITOS AND THE  OLD DEAGLE HOUSE
TO KEEP DEAGLE COMFORTABLE I PUT A FAN  BLOWING OUT THE DOOR-- TO WHICH I ADDED A  CLOTH NETTING  LIKE A BIG BUTTERFLY NET... SO I COULD CATCH WHATEVER I WAS BLOWING OUT...  AND I DID CATCH THINGS-- FAR MORE THAN THE MOSQUITO MAGNET ON WHICH I HAD SPENT CONSIDERABLE MONEY...
THE GAME WAS TO GRAB AND TWIST THE NET AND SPRAY RAID ON THE CAPTURED  MILLIONS.

THE PROBLEM WAS--- THE CAN OF RAID DID NOT KILL THE BUGS AT ALL--- SO I STEPPED ON TH E TWISTED NET...  THAT WORKED..NEVER AGAIN TO SPEND MONEY ON THE RAID TYPE PRODUCTS..
SO MY MILLLION DOLLAR INVENTION THAT I WISH SOMEONE WOULD TRY ----IS TO  RIG A LAWN MOWER   INTO A FAN  ABOUT 6 INCHES OFF THE GROUND....WITH AND EXIT NET-- AND TRY "VACUMMING"  THE YARD BEFORE COOKOUTS INSTEAD OF SPRAYING-- WHICH I FOUND A USELESS EXPENSE.. THE ADS KEEP TELLING YOU THOSE CHEMICALS WORK-- SO MOST PEOPLE BELIEVE THE ADS-- I NO LONGER BELIEVE A WORD....WITH MY METHOD-- YOU GET TO SEE WHAT YOU HAVE CAUGHT..

DOW CHEMICAL WOULD BE REALLLLY MAD IF IT WORKED...  BUT YOUR DOG WOULD NOT BE LICKING DEET OFF HIS PAWS EITHER...

GRASS CUTTING IN SHORTS ( IN MY YOUTH) ALSWAY GOT ME MANY MOSQUITO BITES ON MY ANKLE\S... SO I HAVE ASSUMED-- IF THEY ARE RESTING IN THE GRASS   I COULD  BEST CAPTURE THEM AS THEY START TO ATTACK,   YOU MIGHT HAVE TO EXPIRIMENT WITH  THE ANGLE OF THE FAN...

DON'T LAUGH-----REMEMBER THEY ALL LAUGHED WHEN I TRIED TO INVENT THE SHEE WEE WITH MY FEET POINTED THE WRONG WAY IN THE LADIES ROOM STALLS... NOW IT IS SOLD TO WOMEN ON POLICE DEPARTMENTS..

SO THERE.
*********
TO WORK---   I MUST WORK ON THE DOGFEST IDEAS... I BOUGHT ALOT OF PAINT FOR COLORS...  IF ANY OF YOU HAVE TINY QUANTITIES OF BRIGHT COLORS     YOU MIGHT .....  JUST TRY AND EXPLAIN THAT TO THE SECURITY AT AIRPORTS...  WE HAVE PLENTY--- AND THEN THERE IS ALWAYS MIXING THOSE...

I HOPE EARLENE WILL BE HERE TODAY-- SHE HAD SAID SHE WOULD WORK TIL SEPT 1 WHEN SHE STARTED BABY SITTING HER GREAT GRANDCHILD.

SOLD OUT CELEBRATION  TODAY  -- THE BOARD  MUST BE SOLD OUT-- LAST NIGHT THERE WERE ONLY 16 BRICKS LEFT.

I WAS SHOCKED TO HAVE SOMEONE COME HERE APPLYING FOR A DOG-- NEVER HEARD OF THE CHICKEN BRICKS AND THE $10 DONATIONS THAT KEEP US AFLOAT  -- KEEP THE WORD CIRCULATING--  IT TAKES MANY THOUSANDS OF $$ TO RUN THIS OPERATION-- BUT THERE ARE SOOOOO MANY OF YOU , THAT  THE $10  BRICKS DO WORK....   CRAZY ACRES IS  SOMEWHAT  OF A COOP...  BB'S ( BRICK BUYERS) ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

DOGFEST APPROACHETH....

i need to get supplies for  some of the jobs... like painting--

and get some squares of plywood prepared  for  painting numbers on them to label all the doors around here.... the chicken coop used to be door 40  because i found a big sign with  a 40 on it... and we had another-- long gon  number 29=

i would like just random--- 2 digit  numbers--- painted on the plywood squares..   in prep we should get a base coat of a solid color--- and use up some of the odd paint we have.  numbers to be chosen at random...

if we get going,, proper numbers of the kennels would be good--- 1-10 on one side and   a b c d   on the other...  then the deagle and nutt house need labels too.  ( smaller  plywood...)-- and the gates to pastures.  the "v" pen is the only one labeled ...

and then the tidy types can have a picnic with what was a nice tidy wood shed--- it needs to be emptied and re-loaded

and if it rains-- the wall storage of the arena could stand some help-- along with  hanging bush clinton and perot...

so we should  have fun--

project of the day-- get the bees out of th e teepee- apparently some have moved in...
and go to home depot for supplies-- 2x4's for the laundry bathroom-- jack said he might be able to frame it tomorrow...

grace is moving to boxford sunday---to tracy's apt...  she is going to need help... she will  not be in to work today---

so if anyone has the time.... come on down...

***********
last night's nutty prof was a last minute deal i had forgotten about...  in scotland, we ate kit-kats in the math dept meetings.. because..
this will be difficult to descrobe--- but if you sat a  rectangular kit kat  on it's foil wrapper squarely, there was not enough foil to cover it...  but if you sat it  almost diagionally there was enough-- so they were saving foil by their clever wrapping... it does work-- try it.

Hi, Carlene!

I did some research and it looks like McDonald's does do employee matching funds.  The link below has details about how who they support, and how the employees can request matches.

Thanks for everything you do!

Sorry I won't be at Dog Fest, but I hope I can make it up there for a visit in the fall.

Warmest Regards,

Alicia De Sena

CARLENE,
I LOOKED UP ON THE INTERNET ABOUT THE HUM IN THE CAMERA AND IT SAID THAT WITH THE PANASONIC GH4 CAMERA, THE HUM IS EVER PRESENT EVEN WITH THE MIC TURNED OFF. IT COULD HOLD TRUE WITH OTHER CAMERAS AS WELL, SO IT IS NOT FROM ANYTHING IN THE HOUSE. IT WILL ALWAYS BE THERE AND NOTHING YOU CAN DO ABOUT IT. WE'LL JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH IT. IT IS NOT A BIG DEAL FOR ME.............JOHN

wow-- that is the best news in ages...  i am really tired of  "to hum or not to hum-- that is the question..."  conversations.  we all lived for a very long time with no sound.... if it is as earth shattering as some find it-- shut the sound off---

you are  listening to  just us--- a cacophony -- not a symphony..

HI, CARLENE,

I SAW IN TODAY'S DOGGIE DAILY THAT YOU TALKED ABOUT PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE.  I AM A VOLUNTEER WITH A CONSERVATION GROUP IN THE MIDWEST.  YOUR MOTHER WAS RIGHT; THE NON-NATIVE PURPLE LOOSESTRIFE (WHICH IS LIKELY WHAT YOU HAVE) IS NOT EASY TO GET RID OF  (SEEhttp://www.invasiveplants.net/plants/purpleloosestrife.htm).  YOUR COMMUNITY SHOULD HAVE ACTED WHEN SHE SOUNDED THE ALARM (BUT WE DIDN'T KNOW AS MUCH BACK THEN ABOUT INVASIVE PLANTS).

IT WON'T WORK TO PULL OUT THE PLANTS AND SOW A FEW WILDFLOWER SEEDS.  IF YOU HAVE A FIELD OF IT, THEY WILL OUTCOMPETE ANY WILDFLOWERS IN NO TIME FLAT.  SAVE YOUR TIME AND BACK.  RESIGN YOURSELF TO ENJOYING A FIELD OF LOOSESTRIFE. . .IT IS YOUR COLOR, AFTER ALL.

KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK WITH THE DANES.

DONNA (AKA BOBOLINK-IL)
******
FROM THE WEB
  • The plant was introduced both as a contaminant of European ship ballast and as medicinal herb for treatment of diarrhea, dysentery, bleeding, wounds, ulcers and sores.
oh really??  i thought it was no good for anything--- there certainly are fields of it
*****
yesterdays discussion ith anne resulted in our building a shade shelter in the puppy pen.. apparently the reason there are no dogs on camera there is the heat/sun... they are in the shade of the hill on the other side... so we are trying to put up a shade "umbrella" mostly out of available materials--- like 3 good posts and one very bent one.

people carrying levels and right angles are not welcome near it.

keep in mind-- one of the biggest concerns is that it not be eatable... otherwise i would put up a rendition of th e old teepee.

so that is the project of the day
along with bank statements... yuck

WONDERFUL DAY... LOTSA CUT AND PASTE SO MY BRAIN CAN DEAL WITH THE NORMAL STRESSES OF DAILY LIFE...
LIKE THE PRINTER AND IT'S %*&^(*((*& INK..
I HAVE AN INSTINCTUAL HATRED OF PRINTERS BECAUSE THEY SELL THESE MARVELOUSLY COMPLICATED MACHINES THAT SCAN AND FAX AND COPY   FOR SUCH A BARGAIN  $9.99  AND THEN THE INK CARTRIDGES ARE $432.00 EACH.. THAT LAST 4 DAYS.

BESIDES THAT ... I AM SO BUSY TRYING TO GET IT TO PRINT AND COPY -- ON PAPER-- WITH INK---THAT I NEVER HAVE LEARNED TO FAX...  A HUMILIATING SITUATION AS I HAVE TO LISTEN DAILY TO  SOME PERSON ON THE OTHER END OF THE  PHONE SAY  INCREDULOUSLY    "YOU DON'T HAVE A FAX?" AND I HAVE TO ADMIT I DON'T KNOW HOUS TO USE THE  ^^&*()*)(& THING-- AND THEN PUT A DOLLAR IN THE SWEAR BEAR.

SCANNING IS MARGINAL-- IT WILL SCAN... BUT THEN IT HIDES THE FILE SOMEWHERE TAKING ME HOURS TO FIND IT.
I HATE PRINTERS--- PERIOD.
THANK HEAVEN S FOR THE CUT AND PASTE TODAY.. I DO NOT HAVE A CLUE WHY THIS  HAS DECIDED TO PRINT IN BLUE...  JUST MORE OF THE SAME....A VERY WILLFUL COMPUTER....
**
AND EXPLORE'S TECH GUY IS DUE HERE TO SEE IF THE MIC IS AFFECTED BY THE UPSTAIRS TOILET ...

I HAVE HEARD OF SINGING INTHE SHOWER-- WE ARE ONE BETTER -- WE HAVE A TOILET THAT SINGS ON I'S OWN....
THERESA MAY HAVE FIXED IT... SHE STUCK SOME GUM IN IT'S BLOW HOLE..  I HAVE NOT CLIMBED THE STAIRS TO ATTACK THAT PROBLEM-- BESIDES-- I CAN'T HEAR IT.

Ellen & Bruce Pittluck WIN THE BRASS RING OF THE DAY-- I BOUGHT A BENCH FOR GRACE ON EBAY  -- A SADDLERS BENCH THAT YOU SIT ON AND IT GRABS WHATEVER YOU ARE WORKING ON TRYING TO SEW... I HAVE WATCHED HER STRUGGLE WITH THAT--- SO I BOUGHT ONE ON EBAY AND DID NOT BELIEVE WHEN EBAY SAID THE POSTAGE WAS $300... SO I ASKED FOR HELP FROM THE CP NETWORK AND ELLEN REPLIED, PICKED IT UP --- BRUCE SPENT THE DAY DEALING WITH IT- TAKING IT APART TO REDUCE THE  SIZE/SHIPPING COST -- AND UPS'ING IT.
IT USED TO BE THE POWER OF THE PEN... NOW IT IS THE POWER OF THE FINGERTIP....
******

TINA ---  ASKED WHAT CHORES NEED TO BE DONE...
YARD WORK -- HAND PULLING SOME OF THESE HUGE WEEDS/ WE CAN NOT GET TO WITH THE TRACTOR-- LIEK THE CHICKNES OR DONKEY PASTURE

THEREBY LAYS A TALE---
WE ARE GETTIN G MORE OF THE  PURPLE LOOSTRIFE (?SP?)-- THAT BEAUTFUL PURPLE WILDFLOWER---- THAT MY MOTHER IN 1945 VIOLENTLY OPPOSED LETTING IT BE IMPPROTED BECAUSE IT WOULD TAKE OVER ALL THE MEADOWS AN WIPE OUT THE BLUE AND YELLOW TYPE WILD FLOWERS.---  SHE WAS A GARDEN PARTY TYPE-- BUT WROTE LETTERS TO THE --- HERALD TRIBUNE (  OLD NEW YORK PAPER) TRYING TO BAN THE IMPORTATION...
SHE LOST THE ARGUEMENT -- AND NOW WE HAVE MEADOWS WITH ACRES AND ACRES OF PURPLE...

SO I NOW-- HERE--- PULL IT UP AND SPRINKLE WILDFLOWER SEEDS...  -- THERE ARE PROBABLY 10 PLANTS I SEE HERE TODAY... GOTTA GO.

PAIINT   THE CHALANGE WOULD BE-- THE LAUNDRY--SO WE ARE NOW ARGUING WHAT COLOR??   AND WE WILL NEE SOME LONG HANDLES--- BUT WITH ENOUGH PEOPLE......
THE SHOP--- NOW RED--- NEEDS TO BE CHANGED...TO SOMETHING...

AND THE FUN ONE....I REALLY NEED TO HAVE  BUDS WOODSHED CLEANED OUT AND REPACKED-- THERE IS AN AMAZING COLLECTION OF  STUFF  FROM OLD PARADES-- I KNOW THERE ARE 4 TRAILERS WHICH I BUILT TO FOLLOW INTHE TRACKS OF THE TOWING VEHICLE--   BOTH FRONT AND BACK WHEELS ANGLE ON TURNS SO WE DID NOT WIPE OUT THE CROWD WHEN WE TOWED   3X6 CARRACTURES OF BUSH - CLINTON - AND  PEROT  WITH THE 8 DONKEYS.  THERE WAS A 4TH SMALL TRAILER WITH BUCKET AND SHOVEL AND A SIGN THAT SAID "THEY ARE ALL FULL OF IT"

AND HANG THOSE  PICTURES OF BUSH CLINTON AND  PEROT  IN THE ARENA...  THE CHALLENGE THERE??? LEVELING THEM.

HI CARLENE,

AS THE HUSBAND OF A RECIPIENT, BETTY, I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE SOMETHING THAT I WITNESSED ON TUESDAY MORNING THAT ABSOLUTELY BLEW MY MIND.  I WOKE BETTY UP AT 5:30 A.M., LIKE I DO EVERY MORNING, SO WE CAN FEED THE ANIMALS BEFORE I LEAVE FOR WORK.

AS USUAL, BETTY NEEDED IVY TO GIVE HER A BRACE TO HELP HER OUT OF BED.  UNFORTUNATELY, BETTY WAS EXTREMELY SORE AND THE BRACE WAS NOR WORKING FOR HER.  WHAT I SAW NEXT, WAS NOTHING SHORT OF AMAZING.

IVY, SENSING THAT THE BRACE WOULD NOT WORK, PUT HER TWO FRONT PAWS ON THE BED SO THAT BETTY COULD WRAP HER ARMS AROUND HER SHOULDERS TO GET HERSELF UP.   I COULD NOT BELIEVE WHAT I HAD JUST SEEN.  IF I HAD NOT SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES, I WOULD NOT HAVE BELIEVED IT.

WHAT YOU HAVE DONE FOR BETTY IS AMAZING.  SHE IS SMILING ALL THE TIME, DOING THINGS SHE HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO DO AND GOING OUT.

THE LOVE, DEVOTION AND DEDICATION IVY HAS FOR BETTY AND VICE VERSA IS IMMESUABLE.

WHEN I SEE THEM TOGETHER, MY HEART IS FILLED WITH SUCH EMOTIONS IT IS HARD TO EXPLAIN.  SEEING THEM WORK TOGETHER IS PRICELESS.

THANK YOU AGAIN FOR THE TRAINING THAT IVY WAS GIVEN TO HELP BETTY.

HOLE DIGGING  FOR THE SIGN WAS DONE YESTERDAY-- THE SOIL IS SOOOOO ROCKY THAT THE HOLES GOT BIGGER THAN I LIKE... WE HAD BEEN TOLD 6"SONNA TUBE DOWN 30"  -- WE HAD 8" TUBES-- WHICH WOLD BE FINE IF THERE WAS NOT A RECTANGLE AT THE BOTTOM OF THE POSTS WHICH IS 11" DIAGIONAL...  SO WE QUIT--- EITHER HE HAS TO CUT OFF THAT RECTANGLE OR HE IS ON HIS OWN GETTING IT LEVEL AND SQUARE--- BUT THE HOLES ARE DONE.

I WISH I HAD MY CAMERA, AS THE WALL COLLAPSED AND SHEILA WENT INTO TH E HOLE...

WE SAT , HOT TIRED AND DIRTY WONDERING WHAT WE COULD  DO FOR MAIL CALL WHEN LARRY AND NANCY ARRIVED WITH RUKUS-- THEY AE FLYING ACROSS COUNTRY AND THOUGHT IS A BIT EARLY INTHE PARTNERSHIP[  TO TRY FLYING SO WE GET RUKUS...... THEY BECAME OUR DISTRACTION  FOR LACK OF ANY  OTHER BRILLIANT IDEAS....--
IT IS TOUGH TO BE BRILLIANT WHEN YOU ARE TIRED.

SOMETIMES IT IS TOUGH TO BE BRILLIANT  UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES..

********************
AS I TRY AND PUT TOGETHER A FEW WORDS FOR THIS VETERNARIAN THING IN OCTOBER. I DECIDED ANY TIME YOU HAVE A TIGHT LEASH YOU ARE NOT TRAINING---- YOU ARE BULLYING.
A QUICK SNAP TO REMIND THEM TO THINK SHOULD BE ALL THAT IS REQUIRED.

THE  TIGHT "HANG ON " THEORY OF DANE MANAGEMENT  MOST FREQUENTLY SEEN IN THE REAL WORLD...- IS AN INSULT TO THIER IQ-- AND THE HANDLERS TOO.  I HAVE A FEELING THAT IS WHY  THERE IS NOT ANOTHER DANE SERVICE DOG FACILITY ---  THEY JUST DON'T KNOW-- OR WON'T BELIEVE-- DANES ARE MUCH EASIER TO HANDLE THAN MOST ANY LAB I KNOW---  ALOT OF LABS HAVE A "RUN DEAD AHEAD RIGHT THRU THE PRICKER BUSH" MENTALITY  BRED INTO THEM THAT IS HARD TO OVERCOME .
I THINK THEY CALL THEM FIELD LABS...  WHATEVER... THEY ARE TOUGH.

THERE IS ALSO AN ELEMENT OF MICROMANAGEMENT  IN MOST TRAINING PROGRAMS--   SNAPPING TO ATTENTION WHEN YOU ARE ON CALL 24 HOURS A DAY IS A BIT MUCH--

AND SOMEONE WHO HAS BEEN HERE LATELLY COMMENTED ON HOW OUR  VOLUNTEER OPERATION JUST SWINGS INTO MOTION WITHOUT ALOT OF  MICROMANAGEMENT...
I WISH I KNEW WHO  THAT WAS-- BECAUSE WHEN THIS ACCREDITATION BUNCH ARRIVE--- THEY ARE STUCK ON LISTS, DIRECTIONS , JOB DESCRIPTIONS ETC...  BECAUSE  JUST "GOING WITH THE FLOW"  IS NOT SOMETHING THEY  ARE USED TO.

IF I HAD TO MAKE A LIST OF JOB DESCRIPTIONS I WONDER UNDER WHICH COLUMN I WOULD HAVE TO PUT "SPERM WARMER"

I KNOW THIS ACCREDITATION BUNCH HAVE A DIFFICULT JOB---  BUT..... EVEN LISTING ALL THE
HAZARDS HERE WOULD TAKE YEARS.

**************
I THINK TODAY A NEW TECH GUY WILL APPEAR---TO TRY AND DEAL WITH OUR MIC NOISE.. I HAVE HEARD SOMETHING ABOUT " BETTER PLACING THE CAMERA"... AS THEY MAY FEEL OUR COLLECTION OF DOUBLE ENDED SNAPS AND DOG CHAINS IS NOT SUITABLE...  I HOPE HE IS PREPARED TO DEAL WITH THE COMPLICATIONS OF  DOORS... GATES... AND OTHER BARRIERS THAT WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH BECAUSE OF THE DOGS..... AND PEOPLE...

IT CAN NOT BE THAT THE NOISE IS ACTUALLY THE WHISTLING TOILET UPSTAIRS THAT I HAVE YET TO INVESTIGATE
*******

THANK HEAVENS WE HAVE CUT AND PASTE TODAY

Roo and I have been going about non stop.  We went up to Maine for a few days last week and he did wonderful.  We did uncover a new quirk , he was extremely uncomfortable around any live music. On our second night we found a venue with some outdoor music and a grassy patch a ways away and sat for a while he got comfortable enough after a bit.

He has lots of fun playing with my other dog when we are at home. We will be up for Saturday of dog fest at the very least...  BUD 2

Hi Carlene just wanted to share more about my amazing girl..

Lydia CONQUERS the Moose!! :~)

As Lydia settles in with Me, her new Mom, and new town, she has met some unusual challenges.. Service Dog Project does and incredible job exposing these amazing service dogs to many every day scenarios, and even some not so everyday stuff..
So now she is with me, in Vermont. Vermont is known for their Moose, My town has Life size Moose statues in various locations as well as Catamount statues..It just so happens at the end of my street, there is a Moose that is painted the color of a real moose.
My dear Lydia wanted Nothing to do with that huge beast living at the end of her street, so she really would really push me away from that beast toward the road..I had been chatting with Kati Sarosy Whitney about this moose issue, and she told to keep exposing her to the moose until she gets over it.
Well Today we did it!! She Conquered her fear of that beast! I took the time to get a pic with her laying next to it. Not such a good pic but I was so proud of her! I will get a better picture another day..
We also visited an art gallery this morning as well as a corner convenience store to stop and visit. She was wonderful!!
It feels so good to feel confident to walk around town without fear of falling, and feeling like an old woman with a cane. She is doing so wonderfully helping me up and down the stairs to get to my apartment, she has learned my speed and stride going up and down..I don't have to give her commands anymore! SUCH a SMART girl!
Today we have a physical therapy appt. to go to. I will let you know how that goes...
Oh, and I took her to a vet yesterday to get established and she weighed in at 118 lbs.. :~)

Annette :~)

i never should have started--- but --- i need a house phone in the t tent-  and i got to reading about  this wireless home phone number--

i have outgrown my ability to understand tech things... i have asked veriazon to get my house phone in the t tent and it has not happened--- so i read this ad.. got on live chat-- and the first thing he/she/it asked  was why can't verizon do it??  how on earth do i know?   but they dont.
********

so to add to that ........it is about our upstairs toilet---- i had no idea it was the problem that  i am now told it is...  apparently ... it  whistles-- constantly  like a fire alarm...... is this the problem tim is having with the microphone???... but being more than slightly deaf... who knew???

since sheila was here for the discussiion, it became a study in logic... she says the flap.....-- i do not see how  it can be the lower flap thing  because that is underwater, and to make a whistle sound, air has to be involved..  that w/c is the highest plumbing on the property, so my assumption is any air in the line is tooting out that little pipe...... my solution is to change the shape of the  end of that pipe-- and it should at least change the pitch of the noise...  hand a paperclip over the end... something...

if sheila thinks she can make a noise underwater,, it is going to be an interesting day with buckets of water.......

the rest of the story is that i have thought for years i have tintinitis-- now i find it maybe only a plumbing problem outside my head????

Today's message from Dana:
I will have the sign ready for installation the end of the week. The two 6" wide holes need to be 58” apart center to center and 30 inches deep.

I WENT OUT TO LOOK, BECAUSE  I REMEMBER THE NIGHT WE LOST POWER- AND I HAD NOTHING TO DO -- SO I CALLED MY PARENTS IN NEW YORK ONLY TO FIND THEY HAD NO POWER EITHER..  IT WAS THE BIG NORTH EAST BLACKOUT.....
SO WHEN POWER STAYS OFF FOR MORE THAN 1/2 HOUR  I TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHAT IS GOING ON.. BE PREPARED...

This mornings adventure with Lydia took me to my favorite place. Beautiful "Vermont" fields and views..She seemed to really enjoy all the new smells. We practiced our down stays and she tolerated my stopping to get some pics along the way.
I took her out of her vest and put her on a longer lead to see if she had to potty, but she didn't, so back in to her vest and back to work she went..
As we were headed back out, we encountered 4 other people in a group with 4 dogs OFF LEASH! I told Lydia she was such a good girl, and once the people seen Lydia and I from a distance, they began calling their dogs..3 of them were able to get their dogs back on leashes..As we stayed where we were and waited..I just kept telling her how good she was.
The 4th persons dog kept running toward us, then turning around toward them as they were really trying to catch the dog. The owner finally said, "OH, He's harmless"...I said "She is a SERVICE DOG", they all then started calling the dog and finally after probably 5 minutes they caught him and had him on leash.
Lydia stood tall and proud, and so good! As we walked by them I thanked them for doing that. They kept apologizing, I told them we were a new "partnership" and I wasn't sure how she would react, and I appreciated them gathering their dogs..They of course were amazed at how beautiful and well behaved she was..
Once a gain a testament to just how AMAZING Service Dog Project is, and how well trained their service dogs are!

**
I was bored Friday night and wrote this and some suggested i send it to you.

HOW DID I GET HERE???  The story of gussie (that’s me on the left)
Do you remember when you were in your mom’s belly?  I sorta do. I think it was real dark and crowded cause I had three brothers with me in there.  We couldn’t see or hear anything cause our little eyes weren’t open yet and we couldn’t hear but we could smell and oh boy. .

Well anyway the next thing we knew we were outside lying on a real soft blanket and our mom was feeding us.  We still couldn’t see or hear but we could smell, especially our mom and each other so for the next two weeks, we just mostly laid around and ate and slept.

Pretty cool except we started getting kinda bored. Then one day the funniest thing happened. At first we started to see just a little bit of light and could hear some things. As we started to see better I noticed certain things. For one, my mom was huge. It took me awhile just to get from one end of her to the other. Of course I was still having trouble walking but still.  For another, my three brothers’ aren’t as good looking as I am.  Their cute, but I’m beautiful, I think.

Beside my mom being there all the time, there was a human person too and it was real nice to curl up in their lap and go to sleep. One day I was lying on the person’s lap cause she liked me the best and my brother Ziggy waddled over and started biting my ear.  So I crawled over and started biting his tail. Then pretty soon our other brother’s were biting each other. Not hard cause we really didn’t have any teeth but just playing.

Life went on like this for the next couple of weeks.  We explored where we were living and played with each other and mostly ate and slept without a care in the world

. Then one day, I was picked-up and put on this little table. There was a person holding me to make sure I didn’t fall off and a bowl of something in front of me so I tried it.  At first, I didn’t like it but pretty soon after that we were eating all of it. We kinda lost interest in our mom feeding us after that, and she was spending more and more time away from us anyhow.  It’s really funny.  I thought I would really miss my mom but we were growing and playing with each other so much I didn’t.

Soon they brought in these metal bowls with this crunchy food in it and that was real good. Now we were playing more and trying to escape from this kinda pen they had us in. My brother, Hugo actually got out one day but was soon caught and returned. Life was good and fun.

One day this girl we came to know as Megan came and put us in a buggy thingy and took us outside. Boy what a difference.  She put us down on this stuff called grass next. My brother Emmitt took a few steps and then started running so we all did.  Wow. What a new world with all the new smells and things to see.

So time passed and we started getting bigger and bigger. Soon we were eating outside at the tables with holes in them.  Megan was being mean and wouldn’t let us eat until we all learned this new word WAIT. Boy I hate that word.  We were now eating twice a day and loved our meal time.  We moved to this new house and were able to go outside anytime we wanted through a little hole in the wall.  Not outside, outside but a little pen. A whole bunch of other dogs were living there too.

Sometimes when we were let out to play, the big dogs would come and play with us.  They were always very nice.

Speaking of big dogs let me tell you about Bailey. She lives in the house with her mom Carlene and after we got bigger we moved from the puppy room to the kitchen.  It was real neat there. There were persons all around and a big bed. We got on the bed by climbing on this thing the persons called a taco bed.

Sometimes they let us into this other room where bailey and his mom live.  They open boxes and stuff in there and it’s a lot of fun.  One day this man person was there and picked me up and asked how little Gus was doing.  Everyone started laughing, even my brothers and I didn’t know why. Gus is a boys name and I’m a girl so why would he call me Gus??  I got real mad and stopped wagging my tail.

This person named Tracy told me that because my mom couldn’t have us the regular way (whatever that is) the doctor had to help us come out.  When he came to me he told Megan that I was a little boy so she named me Gus. Well when Megan took a closer look and saw that I had much longer eye lashes and was so much prettier than the others they realized I was a girl and became Gussie.

Anyway Bailey who is a giant would go and get this basket in his mouth and take it to his mom.  I sure hope I can learn tricks like that someday.
Anyway, on some days when there were allot of people there and they would put us in a pen where the kids could come see us and talk to us.  I wish we could have played with them but some were to rough and they were afraid one of my brother’s might get hurt.

The first time (I think) we were down there and all the people had left this person named Katie walked us back to the house. We got to go on our own and it was allot of fun.  She even took a movie of us and of course I was the star.  Hugo thinks he was but it was me.

Well we kept growing and eating and playing together the four of us, kinda like the four musketeers and then one day they put us in separate pens.  I was very sad.  I didn’t understand why until I was out one day playing and this giant dog with a shirt on his back sat me down and asked me why I was so sad.  I told him I missed being with my brothers and he explained that someday I was going to grow up to be a service dog.

Well I had no idea what he was taking about so he explained it to me.  He said that when puppies are born they grow up travelling many different paths. Some are fierce guard dogs some sniff out bombs or bad things. Some puppies grow up to find people and some just to keep a person company. He told me that some pups are what they call trained to help people who can’t see and others to help those who can’t hear.  I said that I just wanted to grow up and play with my brother’s all my life and he said that was very selfish of me.  He said I was selected to be a very special doggy who was going to be trained to help someone to walk and stand. He said that the person I was going to help would love me very much and I would grow to love him or her. I still didn’t understand but then Megan and Katie did start to train my brothers and I.

I’m a little older now and my training is going well. I’m proud of what I’ve learned and am looking forward to meeting my forever person. I realize now that service to others, dedicating your life to that is the most satisfying thing in the world. I still see my brothers but also know that someday we’ll part.  They’ll go on to be wonderful helpers to their forever humans.  They say that we four had the wiggliest tails ever at this place.  Knowing the life I’m about to embark on will keep my tail wagging forever.  Well bye for now. Maybe someday I’ll have my own puppies (I am a Gussie and not a Gus) and I can tell you all about them.

THE REPORT WAS 60%SWIMMERS.
WHICH IS GREAT...
NOW BECAUSE WE HAVE ANOTHER 7 STRAWS ( 7 PER USED ) THAT I REALLY AM NOT THRILLED TO TRY AND KEEP, WE ARE GOING BACK THIS MORNING-- BUD 1 OFFERED TO DRIVE- AND DR T  WILL DO AN CERVICAL IMPLANT JUST FOR GOOD LUCK..
  SHE IS FINE...

NOW I HAVE AN INTELLECTUAL QUESTION OF A DELICATE NATURE-
DOES TH E NORMAL PROCESS OF BREEDING DOGS STRETCH THE FEMALE ANATOMY TO PREPARE FOR DELIVERY--- IT IS A MOST PEQUILIAR PROCESS...  BUT I WILL KEEP THAT IN MIND AND IF IT LOOKS LIKE A C SECTON IS  POSSIBLE , I WILL GO THAT ROAD MAYBE QUICKER THAN I USUALLY WOULD.
************
SHIELA WAS SUFFERING FROM A NASTY FIGHT WITH SOME ELDERLY SHRIMP-  BUT WE MADE IT
EVEN GOT SOME WORK DONE-- SITTING IN HER CAR---TOSSING IDEAS AROUND...
********
WHEN WE WENT IN  TO GET OPAL, A WOMAN CAME IN THE DOOR WITH A 2 YEAR OLD DANE - BROWN-  AND SAID LOUDLY "CARLENE!"
I WAS SHOCKED---BUT IT HAPPENS.    SHE EVEN READS THE DAILY DOGGIE--
 FRIGHTENING THAT IS !

I THEN COMMENTED ON HOW WELL FED HER DANE WAS ONE SECOND BEFORE OUR WELL FED OPAL APPEARED...

WELL FED ( AKA  CURVEY/FAT...)  IS NOT A GOOD THING WITH DANES...  OR PEOPLE MY HUSBAND USED TO SAY..

HIS CONSTANT "IF YOU 'D LOOSE 20 POUNDS YOU WOULDN'T HAVE THAT PROBLEM" REGARDLESS OF WHAT MY PROBLEM OF THE MOMENT WAS-- LIKE ATHLETES FOOT !!

LAST NIGHT HERE WAS BUSY
DORRY WAS IN THE KITCHEN  ICU FROM BEING SPAYED YESTERDAY
LADYA STILL HERE RESTING QUIETLY WITH HER SPAY/TUMMY TUCK...
OPAL WITH A MAJOR  INCISION-- IN FRONT OF THE FIREPLACE
PLUS MOM AND THE 4 BABIES.  IT REALLY TOOK TWO PEOPLE-- TRACY AS ON --- GWEN STAYED FOR A LONG TIME ( THEY APPARENTLY PUT ON MIDNIGHT MAILCALL) AND KATI CAME IN EARLY AND WILL STAY FOR A WHILE..

THANK HEAVENS FOR THE  2 CUT AND PASTE-- I STARTED LATE AND HAVE FISH TO FRY

Subject: Staying in the cottage

Hi Carlene,
The cards keep coming and Oh what a difference they are making.  It's amazing to see the beautiful cards and colorful envelopes from all over the country.  We've gone from feeling vulnerable and sort of outcast, to being protected by this huge community of good-hearted people.  Thanks to everyone for reaching out to us and for advocating on behalf of all who have different needs.  Larry gets emotional each day reading them, but is so gratified!

We planned a trip to Seattle since long before Larry got Ruckus to visit our son for the first time since he moved out there last year. Larry feels his work with Ruckus is too new and unfamiliar for such a long trip to be his first travel experience so he's decided to take Kati up on her offer to take Ruckus to her house.  She had offered last week when we were up there and Larry expressed his concern.  Is there any possibility that we could stay in the cottage next Tuesday evening if it is available before we fly out on Wednesday AM?  You mentioned we should always contact you before we assume.

Again, thanks for mounting this campaign on our behalf.  It is truly amazing.

Good morning Carlene Just wanted to share about our ride home last night with Lydia..

"What a LONG ride home we had..ugh..Traffic, rain on and off, took over 4 hours..should have been a little over 3, but Lydia did fantastic.

She did get a bit panicked at one point, so I thought she needed to go out..It was dark and raining, miserable..I only had the short lead with the choke collar, but we had to try..So we pulled over and I took her out..SHe had diareeah!! She was so good..went potty, and back in the car, and was fantastic the rest of the ride home..
"
We got home and who would think almost 10pm at night the damn neighbors who have the dog (live down stairs) were OUTSIDE..that little ankle biter barking like and SOB..Lydia was so nervous..we had JUST gotten here...but she stood by me and I walked away from the idiot hanging on to the ankle biter.. Lydia did so good..The guy who ws holding her is BRAIN DEAD..stood out side saying Oh he just needs to get it out of his system..
I wanted Lydia to eat it..but..LOL Anyway..we came upstairs..she was a little standoffish to the boys..but I gave them treats to give her..
"She took them..we did that again..and all was good..
She slept on the couch(I sleep in the recliner end of the couch anyway) with me all night..She got up stretched this morning.all good..She is so AWESOME!!

Thanks Again so very much!! :~)

we lost power earlier-- so i am way behind--- and having to leave with opal---  and may not be back til mail call or later

thank heaven s for some cut and paste

I'm overdue for an update regarding awesome Wicked! We survived our first two semesters of graduate school, with top-notch grades, thanks to Wicked supervision and support through classes and papers. unfortunately, Wicked didn't decide she could go potty on campus until the end of the semester, and the poor girl ended up with a UTI. First vet trip! She was great of course, and we figured out some favorite treats to get the medicine into her. Wrapping the pills in sliced ham did the trick. Of course, we were going full speed for awhile, and the second I was out of school I got sick. Wicked stayed close through all my coughs and sneezes (who says you can't get a cold in August??). Feeling better, and decided to take a trip to the local ice cream place, located on a dairy farm. Wicked thought the chickens were pretty entertaining, but was very confused about spotted animals bigger than her!
We have another week and a half off, and then we start our internship. More excitement ahead for this team!
Thinking of SDP often, your very happy team,
Bethany and Wicked.

BLUE GWEN AND GREG WERE HERE ALL YESTERDAY AFTERNOON AND EVENING WITH THEIR DOG WHO'S NEW NAME I CANT REMEMBER...  SHE HAS BEEN SPAYED AND TUMMY TUCKED

GASTROPLEXY--- WHICH STOPS THE STOMACH FROM TWISTING WHICH IS A COMMON CAUSE OF BLOAT...  YOU HAVE TO REEMBER THERE ARE STILL OTHER CAUSES OF BLOAT-- BUT GASTROPLEXY GETS RID OF ONE OF THEM.

OPAL'S NUMBERS...   MONDAY ABOUT 5PM IT WAS 3.6-- THEN WE DREW BLOOD AGAIN ON TUESDAY ABOUT 5PM AND IT WAS 6.6, SO SHE IS BOOKED FOR SURGERY AT NOON ON FRIDAY  --THAT IS THE 3 DAYS AFTER THE RISE...SHEILA AND I WILL DO THE HONORS.. IN SEEBROOK.  ?PROVIDENCE RI AREA.

THE CELLAR IS NEARLY  EMPTY.... NEARLY...-- ONE OVERFLOWING GREEN TRAILER IS COVERED AND READY FOR THE TRANSFER STATION...--  AS SOON AS DAVID OR WAYNE GETS HERE TO DO THE HEFTING IN CASE THE LIFT DOES   NOT....DUMP.

IT IS A PLACE WHRE YOU DRIVE IN OVER SCALES, DUMP IN A HUGE PILE AND DRIVE OUT OVER SCALES  PAYING BY THE WEIGHT.  THEN THEY HAVE A HUGE BUCKET TRACTOR WHICH SCOOPS IT ALL INTO A BIG 18 WHEELER AND IT GOES AWAY...   I THINK AWAY IS IN MAINE

I HOPE IT IS NOT NEAR POLAND SPRINGS WATER SUPPLY OR WE ARE ALL IN TROUBLE.
****
LEARNING IS ALWAYS A GOOD THING... APPARENTLY HOME DEPOT HAS A PRODUCT YOU CAN MIX WITH OLD PAINT THAT TURNS IT ROCK HARD IN A FEW HOURS SO YOU CAN PUT IT IN THE TRASH.( AS LONG AS IT IS NOT LEAD... AND OURS IS NOT.)

NOW ABOUT THE PAINT COLLECTION IN THE CELLAR--- THERE MUST BE 50 CANS-- AT LEAST HALF OF WHICH  CONTIAN COLORS NEFVER SEEN ON THIS PROPERTY.. SO WHO HAS BEEN ADDING THEIR  OLD PAINT  TO MY CELLAR JUST TO GET RID OF IT????

HAVING BEEN PRESENTED WITH A VERY STRANGE COLLECTION,,,, THANK HEAVENS WE GOT TH E BARN PAINTED WITH ONE COLOR BEFORE I FOUND ALL THIS "FREE PAINT"

I WORRIED ABOUT IT HAVING BEEN FROZEN-- BUT ONLINE I AM TOLD IF YOU STIRR IT UP AND IT LOOKS NORMAL, IT IS OK.. IF IT LOOKS LIKE COTTAGE CHEESE IT IS NOT GOOD.

WE COULD PUT IT ALL IN ONE BIG POT AND PAINT THE LAUNDRY WITH THE RESULTING COLOR...  SOMEHOW I THINK MEGAN WOULD  OBJECT... SHE GETS FUSSY...
*******
SPEAKING OF MEGAN-- HER CAR--- NOT OUR VAN--- BROKE DOWN ON RT 95 LAST NIGHT ABOUT 6PM-- JUST AFTER MAIL CALL-- AND GREG AND DAVID RESCUED HER -- WITH HER COLLECTION OF DOGS..  THAT IS THE KIND OF THING--- IF IT WAS IN JULY HEAT-- WHICH COULD BE DEADLY FOR THE DOGS--- AND WHY YOU SHOULD CARRY LEASHES AND WATER IN THE CAR WITH YOU...

SHE TOOK OUR WHITE VAN HOME--- AND  THE HEROS RETURNED   WITH THE NEWS THAT HER TRANSMISSION WAS GUARENTEED FOR 54700 MILES  AND SHE IS AT  54300--- WOULD YOU BELIEVE IT... !!!

IF YOU GET A CHOICE BETWEEN SMART AND LUCKY--- TAKE LUCKY.
**********
I AM TOLD IT IS TIME TO START  TO WORRY ABOUT CLOSING IN THE NEW KENNELS-- MEGAN REPORTS HAVING TO STACK UP DOGS IN THE HEATED PART EVEN IF IT IS AUGUST--- IT IS CHILLY IN THE MORNING...

THAT CAN BE A GOOD PROJECT FOR THE DAY

WE HAVE A FEW  LALLY COLUMNS LEFT OVER FROM THE EFFORT TO SUPPORT THIS FLOOR WITH ALL THE FOOT TRAFFIC ON SUNDAYS.. THE CAMERA PEOPLE SENT  10 OF THEM-- AND WE ONLY NEEDED 4 - SO I CAN USE SOME OF THE REST TO DEFINE THE DOORS IN THE ALLEY-- AND PROTECT THE CAMERA ANGLE DOWN THERE.
******
AS OF YET , I HAVE NOT RECIEVED THE PROMISED LETTER FROM THE MANAGER OF THE YANKEE CLIPPER INN...  I WILL OPEN AND READ IT AT MAIL CALL WHEN I GET IT.

LYNNE HAD A GRAND OLD TIME WITH THE ROCKPORT POLICE....AND SHE GOT SOME WORK DONE TOO...

Hi Carlene,

Here is the synopsis of the meeting with the Rockport PD. I was was bit late getting it out as dad ended up in the hospital last night so it's been a bit crazy...

A tremendously loud and positive Woof! For the Rockport Police Department in Rockport, Ma!!

Wil's and I went up yesterday and met with Lt. Mark Schmink who was simply outstanding. Also, a former Marine. Do I hear a group "Thank you for serving"? As a side note you could really tell he was a marine. He walked in, big, tall, handsome and not one thing on that uniform out of place or askew. And I swear, everything, perfectly polished. Yes, definitely, a Marine :)

Our meeting could not have gone better. I related the recent incident at the Yankee Clipper as well as the one in which the PD was called and the reason for my visit. He was extremely disheartened to hear about the incident at the Inn as was more distressed to hear that his force had the incorrect information regarding the ADA regulations. I provided him with the information he needed.

We also discussed other scenarios as they pertain to service dogs and handlers. Such as not separating a dog and a handler should they respond to a motor vehicle accident and why that's so critical. As well as a number of other things.

He is going to present the ADA regulations as role call training and ensure that they are read, reviewed and understood by all members of the force. We are also going to provide him with a PowerPoint presentation he can use for additional training.

There are a couple of other things that he and I are going to follow up on and so we will be staying in touch.

Oh, did I mention he was a K9 handler in the Marines? Yes! He's not just a dog guy, he's a DOG GUY! Wil's verified it. After lying absolutely silently through the entire meeting, when I asked her to get up she raised, stretched, oh so relaxed and sauntered over to him and leaned in to be scratched. Yup, he's a dog guy. :)

Thank You Lt. Schmink!

i have a thing to write which is going to take me a while... so a short doggie..

i am supposed to "say a few words" at the mass vet conference about hte human/animal bond...and i have realized they are expecting dogs and cats  when my real teachers have been lucy the pig and mary the donkey... so to keep that to a few words is going to be difficult
but try i must.

i had this email from nancy  re  the cards and letters--- so keep them coming....

Larry seems better.  Is loving the cards!  We took Ruckus to a snack bar at the beach for dinner tonight and then watched the sunset.  Larry and she worked so well together - I think the training has really helped so much.  he is talking to her so much more, and not getting as anxious even when she is quite puppy-ish with the seagulls and beach people.

aug 19 2014

happy 19th to all who need a happy day for whatever reason...

our big concern of the day---

we need to  have a group of  sunday sandy's  who can cope with  the special care for a dog who has more happy life ahead with some nursing care.
probably our best example is bailey--- once quite paralalized- and pretty incontinent, with care- and lots of shampoo and laundry, she is doing fine.  is she perfect?  of course she is .... it is the rest of the world's opinion of what she should look like that is imperfect.... she is in no pain- and moves more carefully and slower than she used to
so do i.
so there.

back to the special care department.
is there anyone - anywhere near us who could take on  a geriatric case?

and as we go along  with over 70 dogs out working-- we are going to have one of these cases  on occasion  when the owner just can not cope.

and we have one now.  the owner is sounding like she can not cope.
**************

i had a call from that mike-- mgr of yankee clipper inn --- he is sending me a  letter he wants me to read at mail call.  he strongly suggests he should have been warned---and did not seem  to get the picture- that it should not be necessary... i asked him if he had to be notified if someone was bringing a wheelchair---

meanwhile renee and lynne are doing battle ... very sweetly... but battle none the less...

get those envelopes in the mail today and tomorrow-- i have a feeling they will be extremely helpful  just in numbers alone...
*****
earlene's  birthday party was a surprise and good fun...

spinelli's delivered ( never knew they did)  and costco made a sinful cake

earlene is such a relic around here... it is painful to think she will be babysitting startting sept 1st.
chaos will keep looking for her i know.  she said she will try and get here to walk with her.--- just sitting around with her would be good too....
******
the other thing i learned about yesterday was   shrink wrap--- sheila had some and wrapped a big bunch of candy etc on a huge plate. for earlene ..  used my hair dryer... perfect ---  got to try it -- first find it...

************
re  mia---- she needs her teeth picked..---- vets used to do it with a screwdriver sort of thing--- then they invented this power washer for teeth necessitatioing anesthesia and lots of money.. i still revert to the screw driver-- and they tell me i am terrible for not havign them power washed..

Hi, I need to get Mia's teeth cleaned and her nails done. Also want to have her stomach done so she wont get bloat. The trouble I'm having is no vet will let me be with her till she's out and sit with her till she wakes up. The only one I trust her with is Megan. Should I call SDPs vet George? and if I can't be with her can Megan. Thanks Michelle aka Shelly and Mia

nancy said the few emails and lletters she has  received have helped them tremendously... so please... get a letter off to larry and  show him  the virtual army  behind him.  i figure if you all get a note in the mail  today and tomorrow, he ought to feel better along about wednesday and thursday  larry  peterson  83 nautical lane  s. yarmouth  ma  02664 .

as for the yankee clipper inn--- apparently some people have called there - and while their intentions are good, it does not do any good to  be angry with the person who answers the phone..  it wasn't their fault... it was the manager--- who according to the posts  before all this, he was not alway the most gracious host.

lynn has him apparently willing to learn---- a few hundred- letters might make him anxious to learn-- i am sure he will not read them-- but the number of envelopes should make a definite statement.
and hopefully attract a little  more media attention.

we have 2 more applicants working their way into our "system"
a woman from vermont is in the guest house  trying the bonding bit  and   a couple are camped out in the training room

*******
somebody counted the dogs placed  this year-- 10 service dogs 2 fabulous failures and 5 companion dogs.

the longer we are in business, the more replacement dogs we will have to produce...

bud 2 and maroon are on their way together-- so far so good

Roo and I have been settling in back at home. It's been busy with all the folks that knew and miss Indy wanting to meet Roo coupled with Conner having just gotten home from his vacation. We all went out to eat the other night and dealt with the usual crowd issues.... " don't mind us we just had to come over and stare at you and your dog while you eat".. etc... well I added the last bit.... Roo did great. stood up a few times but could mostly be excused by the interruptions of the nosy folk...
He and our golden have taken to each other very well. they are becoming fast friends. All in all integration at home is a huge success.
Roo continues to be a complete clown at times which is wonderful. He is a great fit and we will make an outstanding team.

Thank you all ... again ....  bud 2

nice dog that roo...

we had some nice new "stewers" yesterday--- it is always nice to have them park and come over to introduce themselves before wandering  around...   however  there was one bunch  mom and 4 kids- park the car- 4 doors open and 4 kids scattered in all directions... i had to chase them down...
and then the family with 2 kids in those heavy duty wheelchairs--  nice people...they  made thier way into the puppy pen and enjoyed the 11 pups who were not toooooo bad--- certainly lively--- and i warned them.

i was very pleased to have the pups worn out by the time visitors began to go in there with them.. that is a good plan.

*****
we got the box of kongs going- ready for distribution to bored dogs in kennels-  it will be easier and more interesting when we have a walkin freezer  and can preload them with meat and goodies that hae to be refrigerated.  in the meantime  lets concentrate on gathering up all kongs you see out and around--  to the t tent... for "processing"

that freezer--- i am told-- will be shipped in 4 days---  there will then be a huge effort to get it put together....  and get that whole area tidy again..

it may have to be painted... here we go again...
***********
we are getting dressed up-- not only the potholes, but renee took on the cemetary
I expect to have the grave markers later next week (engraver was on vaca). I've
used local businesses and they have been marvelous). To confirm, I've had 6 made
up;
Mary
Luna
Annie
Abigail
Thumper
Donald
I also have extra stones in case there are other markers needed on the future.
Enjoy your day,
