IF THE BROADWAY SHOWS DRAW ME TO THE BIG CITY,  TEH STORY OF #601 LEXINGTON AVE CANCEL ALL THAT OUT.

HOW TO GET THIS INTO ONE PARAGRAPH????  "THEY" ( A BOSTON COMPANY) BUILT A 59 STORY SKY SCRAPER ON PILLARS BECAUSE OF A CHURCH- TO MAKE MATTERS WORSE THE PILLARS THEY BUILT ON WERE NOT IN THE USUAL CORNERS, BUT  IN TEH MIDDLE OF EACH SIDE- WHICH WAS FINE IN GOOD WEATHER.. BUT IF THE WIND BLEW ON A DIAGIONAL  THERE WAS A LARGE  CHANCE OF IT TOPPLING OVER.  THIS WAS DISCOVERED BY AN UNDERGRADUATE  ENGINEERING STUDENT WRITING SOME THESIS... THE PUBLIC  WAS NOT NOTIFIED, BUT RED CROSS HAD 2500 PEOPLE  PUT ON ALERT  AS THEY DECIDED 220,000 PEOPLE IN THE VICINTY OF 601  WERE  IN DANGER - AS A STORM ?ELSA?  RACED UP THE EAST COAST.  THE DANGER WAS KEPT SECRET AS THEY HAD CREWs COME IN AT NIGHT TO WELD THE BUILDING TOGETHER  BETTER--- AND BE GONE BEFORE 7AM..  THIS  WELDING WENT ON FOR A MONTH. 

 "THEY"  CALCULATED THERE WAS "ONLY" A 1 IN  16 CHANCE TEH WIND WOULD  BLOW THAT  DIRECTION.. SO IT WAS NOT MADE PUBLIC,  ISN'T THAT WONDERFUL?  GO AHEAD AND GOOGLE ... IT IS A REAL STORY.

ACTUALLY THE 1 IN 16 WAS FROM TEH STATEMENT THAT NEW YORK CITY ONLY GETS A STORM LIKE THAT ONE YEAR OUT OF 16- so that means if it falls in year 4, then it probably would not have fallen again til year 20??  and you  want me to walk around new york city when i can sit at home and watch all that on tv? 

tonight... they say they will be flying drones  in times square also- ?soaking wet drones???   mentally .. a flashback to  the   mythbisters who  tested the effect of one  postage stamp on one of the helicopter  rotor blades.. will the raindrops just fling away?  i can't believe this will go smoothly.. i may set my alarm to watch...

WE TRY TO WATCH THOSE THINGS HERE...AND .you GUYS ARE A BIG HELP...

MY SPECIAL WAY OF FENCE INSTALLING  IS TO TIE IT IN PLACE WITH  A  SAFETY KNOT OF HAY STRING.  THAT WAS MY JOB- ONE 18 INCH PIECE OF STRING WILL HOLE THE FENCE VERTICAL-- TIL WE CAN GO BACK AND ADD 2 MORE STRINGS PRE POST.  THAT WILL WORK WELL TIL NEXT SPRING WHEN WE CAN  JUST PULL THE SLIP KNOT ON THE 3 AND THE FENCE WILLSIMPLY  GET ROLLED TIL WINTER OF 2019.

ACTUALLY-- TEHRE IS SOME STRIONG IN PLACE HERE THAT  IS "THE ORIGIONAL" PINK HAY STRING... WORKING WELLL AFTER 30 YEARS.

    I thought that I would let you know that I picked up my calendar today from our Main Post Office as my Postman failed to deliver it to me yesterday.

  I love it and just in time. I was however horrified to see how much postage you paid which means the 5 dollars you charged was not enough. I will make a donation online to pay the difference with some extra for the Fun Fund.

   I have been a silent CP since the birth of the Buckeyes. I think you are all marvelous and do such a wonderful job. 

  I live in the seaside town of Bridlington in East Riding Of Yorkshire in England. Your web cams bridge the miles between us which I watch many times a day.

   Could you please tell Carlene, staff and all volunteers what a fantastic job they are doing and wish them a very Happy New Year. I also send hugs to all dogs, donkeys, mules and pony.

newtons law-- an object in motion tends to stay in motion , and an object at rest tends to stay at rest,..

 mr newton ain't just talking about apples falling out of trees-- all his laws --- supposedly of physics are equally as applicable to sdp. ... with both animate and inanamate objects..

 my desk is a perfect example of objects at rest-- stuff that lands there tends to stay there... like a small blow torch once used to  cook lamb on a spinning "thing" .  there is also one of those stamp things that  notary would use on official papers... i bought it for $3 at a garage sale -100 years ago when i  was into  registering  animals ( horses) .  i have always had an amazing disregard for paperwork.--'ustabe'-- everyone needed a coggins test for horses and donkeys ----the usda  came round to check- and were very particular-- each dog and donkey had to have a number-- not a name... but a number.  i thought they were here to check on the  welfare of the animals that   i was using in my  " animal episode "  business.  i had a terribly disrespectful argument  with the usda  "inspector"  which ended with me screaming  "his name is "seven"  "  and she would not certify us as  "in compliance" til i changed it to "7". sounds reeeeeeely stupid except  i am sure it had to do with computer input which had to be a numeric field.

SO BAck to the laws of physics  there is a carlene one.  you can not accelerate at the rate at which you can decelerate.

example....   0 to 60 in 4.2 seconds  or 60 to 0 hitting a tree.  those people who so proudly say  "my car has 4 wheel drive"  need to remember 4 w/d is not the same as 4 wheel stop.  as we await our first significant snow storm...

first 2019 resolution.---move the #$%^&*& COUNTER OF CANDY away from my bedroom door.-- JELLY BEANS--M & M-- AND CANDY CORN WITH THEIR DEVIOUS ---"ONLY ONE "--- MENTALITY..HAVE NOT BEEN CONDUCIVE TO QUALITY CALORIE CONTROL. SDP IS BLESSED WITH SOME TERRIFIC COOKIE COOKERS WHICH DOES NOT HELP EITHER. I BUILT THAT SMOKING HUT A GOOD 100 FEET FROM TEH COFFEE POT IN THE KITCHEN SO SMOKERS HAD TO GO OUT IN TH COLD/HEAT  AND PUFF AWAY DOWN THERE--  I PUT IT RIGHT BEHIND TEH PURPLE DOG HOUSE WHICH IS TEH RECEPTICLE FOR UPS, FEDEX AND USPS PACKAGE DELIVERY-  WHICH MEANT THEY COULD CARRY PACKAGES UP THE HILL FOR MAIL CALL.. ALL WAS WELL-- THEN ENTER THE MAD RUSSIAN WHO --THANKFULLY AND HYPNOTICALLY --- REMOVED PAM'S DESIRE TO SMOKE. NOW THE BIGGEST  SDP ADDICTION WE HAVE  IS SUGAR--- AND I AM THE WORSTLY AFFECTED... IF WORSTLY IS NOT A WORD, IT CERTAINLY IS A CONCEPT/ THE COUNTER OF CANDY WILL HAVE TO GO  THERE-- LETS SEE HOW MANY WILL BRAVE TEH ELEMENTS FOR A CHOCOLATE CHIP... As has been reported, she is unable to speak, and can not move any part of her body except for her left hand - slightly. She was able to wiggle her fingers a bit, and when we were leaving, she managed to wiggle them enough to make it clear that it was her best attempt at waving goodbye. The nurse was impressed she was able to manage that. It’s clear that any communication needs to be able to be responded to by a yes or no answer. She can give thumb up for yes - or agree, and wiggle her fingers for no or not sure. She does understand what is being said, but processes very slowly. This is similar to how she was able to respond following her last stroke. She can also move her head slightly, side to side to look at people. We met Vanessa there, and she is so nice to be visiting so often. She had brought some calendars and pictures that we taped up on the walls around her bed, and I brought a few more that we gave to the nurses. When we were leaving, the nurses at the floor station were watching the puppies on their phones!   Shortly after we left, Vanessa texted me that Annie’s brother had just arrived. I replied and asked if she could ask Annie’s brother if he would approve of us getting information about her, and about her condition. Hopefully he will be in touch with you. There is very limited space where she is, so I (and the nurses) would not recommend have anything more sent to the hospital. As for cards, Annie could not read them following her last stroke. If people want to send cards, or anything for that matter, they should send them to SDP as we did last time. Then, someone may have to spend time with her down the road reading them to her. Since we don’t know here she will end up, it’s best that people don’t send flowers, anything edible, or anything other than cards. Maybe when she gets to a rehab situation, we could forward some things then.  Thanks and I’ll be in touch. meatcutter Steve

whoops... late again...

biggest sdp news is  steve is moving on to phase #47 of his career... as of jan 1st.---    he writes well and  i have heard rumors of a book.. heaven knows he has plenty of material from  sdp... the whole place will stagger for a  step or two, and hopefully he will not be too far away- just in case he needs to collect more material for "the  book." . also he can bring tanner down from the wilds of maine.

now for a report on that funny little gadget you plug into you r car  which is supposed to tell you how  teh car is feeling.... well i bought 2 (you know"wait... for just teh cost of shipping and handling we can double.....)   so i have 2 little white  plugins- "FIXD" and with pam's help we did get my toyota hooked to  that smart phone that i never use because it is smarter than i...however... the one thing i can do now is  push the  "FIXD"  app  and it very quickly tells me i am driving a toyota sequoia and it  has nothing wrong at the moment.----- well it is dealer mjaintained- so it should be ok...   however we have 3 othere vehicles which might be is a varied state of disrepair...toyota highlander pushing 300,000--- a ford big long thing  90,000   and a ford 150 truck 100,000 and most of it pulling something heavy  like  horse trailers? 

the ad made me believe i could hook up to any number of vehicles...

well not easily....7

problem now is -- how does this work ? one phone , one fixd one car at least seems to work... how about.... one phone , 2 fixd, 2 cars, --- or do you need  2 phones 2 fixds 2 cars---  they advertise possible  one phone 1 fixd, 4 cars, --i  am sure you can see teh permutationa and combinations of this..  however we have not been able get my phone to talk to the ford-

the word bluetooth comes into this hookup...

Regarding HIPAA, there is no restriction for visitors. I was in the hospital for 2.5 months earlier this year, and my friends came to see me and then emailed all my friends about my status. No HIPAA issues.  So, anyone can go visit her, get an update, and then update us all. It is just the hospital that cannot do that. Friends, etc. no problem. Gosh, my friends passed on all the gory details of my condition to each other via emails. So, anyone can go see Annie and tell us all about what she wants to share.

TODAY WAS A LONG DAY FOR MISS BELLA. SHE HAD HER CORTISONE SHOT TODAY. WE ARRIVED AT THE DOCTOR AT 10 AND DIDN'T LEAVE UNTIL 1:15. THERE WAS A LOT OF WAITING AROUND. BUT WHAT DO YOU D WHEN THE DOCTOR IS TAKING FOREVER? YOU PLAY MONOPOLY DEAL! THE DOCTOR WANTED TO LOOK AT HER HIP THROUGH ULTRASOUND AND WHEN HE ASKED HER IF IT HURT AT A CERTAIN SPOT AND BELLA SAID YES HE LOOKS AT THE ULTRASOUND AND SAYS "I CAN WARRANT THAT PAIN". SO APPARENTLY EVEN IN THE ULTRASOUND YOU CAN TELL HER HIP ISN'T IN SUCH GOOD SHAPE. HE INJECTED IT WITH LIDOCAINE AND THEN CORTISONE. SO THE FLUID SHOULD CAUSE SOME DISCOMFORT TODAY BUT SHE SHOULD BE STARTING TO FEEL BETTER IN A FEW DAYS. HE DID SAY IT LOOKS LIKE PART OF HER FEMUR BONE IS LONGER THAN IT SHOULD AND THAT IS WHAT IS CAUSING THE PAIN AND IT HITS RIGHT INTO THE HIP SOCKET SINCE THERE IS NO CARTILAGE IN THERE. SO HOPEFULLY THE CORTISONE SHOT DOES IT'S JOB FOR A WHILE. WE WOULD LOVE TO PUT OFF SURGERY IF POSSIBLE. BUT NOW AT LEAST SHE IS ON VACATION UNTIL JAN 2ND. YEAR END CONCEPTS...I AM A LIVING GARAGE SALE-- I HAVE MORE "STUFF"  A GREAT DEAL HAS SURVED IT'S PURPOSE- BUT HAVING ONCE BEEN USEFUL OR DESIREABLE IS NOW OF QUESTIONABLE INTEREST. PERFECT EXAmple--  i once thought a paymaster checkwriter would be a better, more reliable way to write checks. it did enable me to find  "an old guy" in ohio who had worked for checkwriter , and knew all about it so he could help me get it running perfectly..  he was a character-- but now he is nearly forgotten and teh checkwriter sits with it's plastic cover in a "way back area"

from coffee pot to the front door, there is a surveying "chain" which was used by a great grandfather  in westchester county ny. who would want that with it's strange links and tabs...?

the shift to the current contraptions spans a lifetime.  i understand the chain- and it's use. however.....there was a small beeeeep  so i turned on my cell phone-which for the last 10 minutes has shown a hand moving in a figure 8. telling me to move away from any electronic device so it can tell which way is north.

this is progress?  isn't there green stuff on the north side of trees...?  why do we need this miracle of modern engineering to tell us which way is north.  why in  modern life do we give a rip which way north is anyway?

kids  have maybe seen a globe, but hardly anyone has seen a map-- remember those things you got from the gas station for 10 cents that unfolded into about 9 square feet of colored description of 4 states??? if siri gets laryngitis these kids would never find rhode island- or the way out of texas...

having watched workmen all my life,  i noticed that if i had the right tools , i could do 90% of what i was hiring someone else to do.-- ultimately it was cheaper to buy some tools and do it myself even if i lost   or  never used them again- at least i didn't have to wait for  a repair person to arrive.

that concept explains alot around here.  i can not tell you how many crow bars and fence mending tools i have bought since i moved to this property in 1979-- crow bars and fence menders- along with hammers, pliers and the  like... are immediately invisable in even 3 inches of grass... and yes   i do have metal detectors-  now i am minus the legs to make them work.

i have not heard any more about annie-- her brother and 2 friends have been alerted...and teh hospital will tell me no more.. how bad is this hyppa stuff??  i sent in a piece of  paper with big print  ANNIE TELL THE HOSPITAL IT IS OK TO TALK TO THE DOG PEOPLE- 

 AND THE DOCTOR TOLD VANESSA THEY WOULD NOT DO THAT TIL THEY WERE SURE SHE WAS 100% SURE SHE COULD SAFELY MAKE THTAT DECISION.

COMING IN THE HOUSE LAST NIGHT..- AND AFTER  A REST ON A DOG BED IT WAS OBVIOUS WE WERE OUT OF OUR MEDICAL ABILITIES TO COPE-- AS INDEPENDENT AS ANNIE IS, WE HAD TO CALL 911-  SHE STArted at anna JACQUES IN NEWBURY- AND WAS TRANSFERRRED TO BETH ISREAL  IN BOSTON...  WHERE SHE DID NOT PUT DOWN OUR NAME- SO HYPPA BEING HYPPA, WE CAN'T FIND OUT ANYTHING ABOUT HER.

 WE ARE SENDING IN CALENDARS, POKER CHIPS    AND  THOSE PHOTOS FROM LAST YEARS  TO GIVE HER SOMETHING TO MAYBE GET SOME EXTRA ATTENTION FROM TH E NURSES..   VANESSA WAS OVERNIGHT AND SHE IS GOING TO BOSTON...  TAKING OUR "CARE PACKAGE"

A Poem for Opal

'Twas the week before puppies, at Carlene White's farm

and the CPs were answering her call 'to arm'.

The fluffies were folded and stacked on a shelf

by Grace, our quite tall and compassionate elf.

.

The futons were made up by Donna, sweet dear,

in colors to compliment each coat and ear.

And Megan, 'though poorly and sick with some strep,

was putting each dog through its step-wait-wait-step.

.

With Smiley and Laura and Connor to help,

when Opal decided the time's come to whelp.

And Shannon maintaining control in the barn,

as Noel and Big Walter sang out one more yarn.

.

Theresa on keyboard and checkbook in hand,

was busily caring for SDP-Land,

Then what to my wondering eyes did appear,

but a car with two white and one very black deer!!

..

No, wait! That's the nanny! The nanny named Pam!

The Dots and their Martha, appearing on cam.

And doggies all over the fields came to see

their overnight “mommie” who filled them with glee.

.

“Hey, Andrew! Sarge! Voo-doo! Big Magnus and Neal!!

I've just had some notes from Miss Willow and Teal.

And George, Boo, and Tizzy wrote Queen Bailey, dear

to remind us for each brand new puppy to cheer!

.

And Sir Thomas wrote also, to tell us, no doubt,

that waiting for babies can wear CPs out.”

So up the steep driveway, the herd of Danes flew

with small plastic bags and some poo-pickers, too!

.

To add to the nursery supplies for the wait

of new tiny Danes, freshly out of the gate.

“Miss Opal, we're here for you!' chorused the pack.

“We've brought lots of laundry – it's all in a stack.

.

We all know you'll handle this birth with aplomb

since you've waited so long to become a new mom.

Your babies will love you as much as we do

and they'll learn to love visitors at Sunday Stew.”

.

And Opal, so sleepy and too big to move

just smiled at her friends to show she approved

of their sweet and warm wishes they said with affection

to a soon-to-be mommie in the nursery direction.

.

Then Carlene appeared with a white monkey fist

and reminded them all that to serve was the gist.

“Now back to work, doggies! You've lessons to learn

to serve your new partners – a priv'lege you'll earn.”

.

So each little Starlet, each pup, and each dog

and even the turtles, the rats and the frog,

the chickens, the donkeys, the horses, the hens

turned quickly around and returned to their pens

.

to wait for these babies they longed to appear

and smiled at the CPs who saw and could hear:

“Be patient, dear people, who watch on the screen.

You'll all know it's time when you see sweet Earlene.

.

We'll soon have more babies then you all can name

and spoon-feeding lessons for the humans to train.

So, please save your pennies, your nickels and dimes

and help us all out, in these sweet puppy times.”

.

And Opal, she smiled. And rested her head

on her soft giraffe pillow and her freshly-made bed.

“I'm happy I'm helping some folks who need care.

So, please, CPs, help us – I hope you can share.”

.

And I know I heard Neal as he snuggled close by,

in his sweet baby whisper say, “Thank you! Good-bye!”

crowd here this morning..  glad we have so many beds and sofas...--  nova scotia to georgia to california   thems all here...-- and tehy know teh rules... this is not a spa... by 7am  they need to be  up and ready to  volunteer.

i took bumble to costco yesterday   joyce shopped-- i sat---- in the food area while masses of people went by    teh only comment i have seen about him is  "shaking" so  i thought i would try taking him with sizzle- who can relax anywhere,,  he is a very well trained dog- who shakes.  well bentley shakes at times too, i dunno. we will figure out something...

up tp 99% of germs are killed....-- we have gone that roaD... 1% IS in that range of "up to" -- so there is this advert about so clean for cpap machines-- simple just put the mask in  blah blah b;ah.. so - short history    i have been coughing-  i have also not been "sanatizing" my cpcp very often either... so 2 days ago i  choloroxed and rinsed and hung the thing up

and sat dowm to enjoy the ad tha said you simply put your mask in the thing .... and that little "up to" was not there.... thy said 99% point blank. - well then i thought about  petri dishes and light bulbs  which i have used to   incubate chicken eggs and how that all your money returned might be worth testing.

 especially since fri and sat i did not cough as much...   

i read how they "so clean"  tested-- and my first problem was they started with sterile petri dishes-

how do you make a petri dish sterile so you can have a startting place...glass maybe you coudl bake---

so that is as far as i have got with that idea... 

but i am thinking... i bet some cp's have some idea... and deb is here- she works with the  national sneezing department-- you know theh one that  is a center for thinking about  disease passing...

when i take a pup into someplace like costco-- and it is not behaving as perfectly as it should- costco-- or anywhere- has teh perfect right to throw me out.-- i was thrown out of walmart for having a puppy that would not stop barking at and electronic witch in teh entry-- i had to leave...that was a little unusAL - BUT WITH A NEW PUPPY THER EIS A BIT OF DRIFTING SIDEWASY , BUMPING INTO,   PULLING AND  SNIFFING WHICH WOULD BE MORE EASILY UNDERSTOOD IF WE HAD ON SOME "LABEL" THAT EXPLAINED WE WERE WORKING WITH A  DOG IN TRAINING.-- SO I HAVE ORDERED A VEST -- FOR PEOPLE( AND ME)  TO WEAR AND SEE WHAT THE RESPONSE IS.

SERV DOGS -- OR DOGS IN TRAINIGN, HAve all the same rights and privlidgesw as long as tey behave. teh purpose in wandering around is to train the dogs... for sure-- but it is also an opportunity to hand out pokerchips--

i am hopeing we will aquire 2 more volunteers which i spoke to a costco..

goldie was in on one of them

she is a newly retired  corporate  xxxx  who told me she had prayed just that morning.. for some where to volunteeer her time because she was going nuts with nothing to do.. 

i did not explain aobu t goldie to her-- for fear she would think we were all crazy... before se realized how being crazy is not all bad....

even the dogs breakfast smells  good today.. thank heavens meat cutter steve has arrived with left overs from his school  which usuall involves diced ham-- tastes wonderful, but leaves me wondeering how  do they dice it??

thinking further about the kids, i wondered if judy and i could do a better job.with  tryin g to explain how you teach a dog... so i ran this by some of our schooll teachers ...

how do you think this would work???-- i sent this to judy... any additions or corrections?? 

what we shoud have  done yesterday is to demonstrate how conversation works with a dog-- or anyone...

if i say to the kids-- i have not had any converation with judy about this , but lets see if she can learn what i mean... 

and i point to the ground and you look st me like i am nuts... and i point and  you bend over..i point more and youslowly sit down  on teh ground...  i smile and clapi hand you a cookie and say ok.....   and you get up

then i say  we can see if she learned...  i point.. and yo bend over very slowly and continue to the eground when yo get a cookie  ok and get up

then much later "lets see if she remembers"    and we do it again.. faster.. 

would have been instructive.. no??

THEN WE WOULD PRACTICE.  INVARIABLY, ONE OF MY KIDS WOULD BE CALLED ON AND WOULD SAY, "WE HAD A DOG NAMED FREDDY.  HE WAS BROWN.  HE DIED BEFORE I WAS BORNED."  DROVE ME CRAZY.  

YOU WERE VERY PATIENT.  SO GLAD SIZZLE WAS GOOD.  THEY MUST HAVE LIKED HER DRY SHAMPOO SMELL.

LOVED HOW YOU HANDLED THE "HOW DO YOU TELL BOYS FROM GIRLS QUESTION."  YOU HAD A PERFECT SPECIMEN IN BENTLEY.  DID ANYONE LOOK AT HIM FROM THE REAR?

 i get a kick out of adi thinking i could begin to write a job description for everyone.. how could i possibly anticipate havng to chase guinea hens out of pupp[y hill because some hinge broke on the guinea hen door?? or 2 people are sick-- or 16 people from ge arrive to help... or the wrong dog gets in with a female in heat- and he is not neutered yet... or  a busload of seniors arrive on a "mystery trip ".. or  somebody says teh front end teh tractor is not feeling well, 

again "please don't eat the daisy's" comes to mind...

oh but we must write these things  so we can keep our accreditation...  there is a fear of not having it

YESTERDAY COULD FILL A  BOOK--- A TO Z ON A BUNCH OF TOPICS

ON A POSITIVE NOTE.. WE --- JUDY AND I --- WENT TO NEWTON TO "RECIEVE A DONATION" FROM A BUNCH OF KIDS IN A SCHOOL- (PIERCE ) MAYBE GRADES K THRU 3??? SITTING ON THE GYM FLOOR. WE WERE NOT PREPARED FOR THE 

 QUESTIONS-  I DON'T THINK ANY WERE THE TOM AND MARY/ DICK AND JANE TYPE-- THEASE WERE NOT PRE-PROGRAQMMED QUESTIONS   THEY THOUGHT ABOUT THESE.... TEHY WOULD SIT AND THINK AND THEN RAISE THIER HAND...  WOW !!!

IF YOU GIVE A DOG TO SOMEONE in europe how does the dog get there?.    this from some kid not 3 feet tall-

JUDY AND I WERE FLABBERGASTED... AND AT TIMES STUMPTED 

 POLITE????  THEY  WOULD ALL SIT AND PATIENTLY WAIT WHILE ANOTHER KID STUTTERS THRU A COMPLICATED THOUGHT.. ABSOLUTELY NONE OF THE JUMPING AROUND WITH A ME  ME  ME   HAND IN THE AIR.

I COULD NOT GET OVER IT.. NOR COULD JUDY

WHEN THE TEACHERS LET THEM  GET UP "IF THEY WaNTED TO PAT THE DOGS"  THEY SWARMED  AND ALL I COULD DO WAS TALK TO BENTLEY WITH MY HAND UNDER HIS MUZZLE, AND  my MOUTH IN HIS EAR "GOOD BOY BENTLEY"   I DID NOT EVEN KNOW WHERE SIZZLE WAS-- SHE WAS NOT WITH JUDY- BUT  SHE TOO WAS SO  SURROUNDED , I COULDNT EVEN SEE HER.

 i sure don't want to tempt fate..... but..... ONE KEY TO DOING THIS KIND OF THING IS ... THESE DOGS ARE "SCHOOLED....EDUCATED... BUT THEY ARE STILL DOGS And are allowed theiri opinion of situations... this  goes long with the puppy   puppy  puppy  discussion of yesterday-- bentley stays with me mostly  because he is terrified to go any where else. he'll  take my word for it... if i say everything is fine, he will accept that..  also critical is not having a collar on these dogs.. because people grab at collars and yank...that would not be a good thing..... bent and siz  can run away from a situation they find overwhelming.  where it could get complicated if there was pushing and shoving and someone stepped on a paw-- but there was not-- these kids were polite...

i tried to have this  "dane discussion"   with george yesterday-- he got on my case about reading somethign 157 times..

it is frustrating to have a decient arguement with geroge when he is surrounded by all his staff-- so i bite my tongue as he continues to tell me what nervous wrecks these danes are... 

with that he bends at teh waist stares bentley in the eye and moves very slowly toward bentley's head.  that is the most aggtressive thing you can do with a dog-  most dogs see it as an aggressive move and get either scared and run or scared and  bite...   george knows this--   but he does not realize when he actually precipitates the  reaction himself.. it is pointless to try and explain  a dane to him - he is thinking "i have to  shine this light in  this dane's eye and figure out what's wrong"  and i am thinking   "you better explain it to him ahead of time" - it is a useless conversation- so i chew on my tongue.

i hate to try and explain why i do things... sometimes i have no clue myself.. but  we need to have a meeting of the trainers this morning- so i can  try explain why i needed 60 seconds of information on a piece of paper so i  could make an informed decision on whether to pave the upper driveway.

the barn looks great-- thanks to haley- it really  was impressive yesterday when all those people from tufts came.. details... like if anyone needed something she knew where it was...  i was very  impressed. 'we did get 8 donkeys neutered..-- in a mass production--the students all hung in there in the cold... and eventually came to the guest house for soup and chicken pie.. the DONKS  are all moving around and eating hay-- should be fine...there is a nice one that matches pockets, we mak keep-- rumor has it he drives---  that would give us a pair... i am not sure why we would need a pair.. but.... *** we must remember to get people  into the arena to check for donkey hooves... because janine trimmed feet while they were underr-- dog love hooves-- like chewing gum- which woudl be fine if they didn't swallow it-- seems to me i remembr having to go get a hoof out of some dog's tummy at one point in my career. ****  jane sent me an article on fedex---- now that is one place i would like to go. they land planed every 90 seconds..all night !!  I MADE ONE FOR BRYAN-- HE SWEARS HE LOVES IT ND I CAN'T TELL IF HE IS JUST BEING POLITE... BUT WHEN HE COMES HERE... IT IS IN HIS TRUCK AND HE USES IT.

YESTERDAUY  I HAD TO GO TO SALSBURY AND PICK UP GABBIE WHO IS IN HEAT-- SO AS I GOT READY, I SAID  "NO CAR"  

THEY RAN TO THE DOOR IN THEIR USUAL FASHION.. SO I REPEATED NO CAR SEVERAL TIMES- I DON'T THINK THEY EVER GOT IT.  THEY WANTED TO HEAR CAR..

THAT BECOMES SIGNIFICANT WITH THE  WORDING OF PROPAGANDA TYPE NEWS.

I HAVE MENTIONED BEFORE... I THINK... THE DAY I TRIED TO  TELL SOMEONE THAT 

"THE RATE OF INCREASE IN NEW JOBS  IS GOING DOWN" 

STILL MEANS THERE IS AN INCREASE IN NEW JOBS..   BUT SOMEONE SOMEWHERE WANTS YOU TO BELIEVE DIFFERENTLY AND IF YOU AREN'T CAREFUL.....ALL YOU HEAR IS THE JOBS AND DOWN.

GOLDIE-- OUR GHOST OF THE LEFT HAND DRAWER IS  THE  BIG STORY OF THE DAY- YOU ALL THINK I MAKE THESE THINGS UP.. PERFECT EXAMPLE. JUDY  and husband GOING HOME DECIDED TO GO DOWN RT 97 FOR A CHANGE- 3 MILES DOWN  SHE CAME TO A BUNCH OF PArked cars and people yelling trying to catch a dane running loose.. tHey were grABBING AT IT TRYING TO GET A SMALL ROPE AROUND IT'S NECK...  IT WAS TERRIFIED... JUDY THOUGHT  IT LOOKED LIKE ONE OF OURS AND GOT OUT WITH A ....PUPPY.. PUPPY .. PUPPY.. AND IT RAN TO HER AND GLUED HIMSELF TO HER LEG - EVEN WRAPPING HIS  FRONT LEG AROUND HERS WHILE SHE JUST TALKED TO HIM. IT TOOK A FEW MINUTES TO FIGURE  OUT WHERE HE HAD COME FROM. TURNS OUT IT WAS  ONE OF OURS..  PRINCE..  WHO'S FAMILY HAD A VISITING RELATIVE WHE DID NOT REALIZE YOU DON'T JUST PUT A DANE OUT ALONE , OR THEY PANIC AND GO LOOKING FOR SOMEONE TO MAKE THEIR WORLD SANE AGAIN... THUS ENDETH MY LESSON IN WHY WE SPOON FEED, AND DO ALOT OF OUR DOG "TRAINING"  WITHOUT LEASH  AND COLLAR.-- THE DANES ARE TIMID TO BEGIN WITH -- SO INSTEAD OF ASSUMING  TIMID LEADS TO DANGEROUS FEAR  AND BITING, USE THAT TIMID TO TELL THEM....  "STAY WITH ME... I UNDERSTAND ALL THIS" AND PRESTO CHANGO -- YOU HAVE A PERFECTLY  CIVILIZED DOG.  instintively they are the worlds greatest followers-- just tell them what is expected so they can relax. THAT IS TEH ESSENCE OF  OUR TRAINING METHOD--  STAY RIGHT HERE BY ME AND I CAN MAKE ALL THESE STRAnge people stay away, i can make the car  move to go places, and i know which places are nice and warm-- or cool.  your dane has to trust you- or you are in trouble with a 175 pound flying object. you don't train a dane... you explain things to them.  you  educate them. (GEORGE , DVM GEORGE... NOW READ THAT 157 TIMES)  **  a really wierd observation-- in handling  A young beginner  dane, just to demo how they have no instinct to retreive... i have many times thrown a ball- in the split second the dane wonders what to do.. they run  to me.--  and turn to look at  me and ask why the ball RAN  away... this is a whole new mindset to a person used to golden retrievers... who will willingly bound after any thrown object. danes can be taught to chase a yellow tennis ball...  but first you have to get over "why should i do that?"  which brings me to  "why should i ask my dane  to do that"  *** I AM VERY GLAD TO HAVE THAT CONVERSATION TODAY  JUST TO KEEP ME FROM TEH OTHER "NEWS"   MANY PEOPLE HAVE OBJECTED TO TURNING THE CAMERA AWAY FROM THE 7 OPERATIONS  ON WEDNESDAY-- WHERE A CLASS OF SENIOR SURGICAL STUDENTS FROM TUFTS / CUMMINGS VET SCHOOL- WILL BE HERE WITH BRYAN- OUR VET- AND 2 PROFESSORS TO  CASTRATE A BUNCH OF RESCUE DONKEYS.. SO THEY CAN BE PLACED IN  "FOREVER " HOMES WITH OUT THE COMPLICATIONS  OF AGGRESSIVE BEHAVIOR THAT  ENTACT MALE ANIMALS TEND TO HAVE. ** I WILL AVOID ANY  REFERENCE TO A PHOTOGRAPH OF ALL THE MEN ON THE STEPS OF CONGRESS.... OR SUGGESTING THAT AN ADJUSTMENT IN NATIONAL POLICY MIGHT  BE  ATTAINED IN 2 WAYS... ONE OF THEM  BY ELECTING MORE WOMEN TO THAT CONGRESS.

how is a dane different from the normal obediece trained GERMAN SHEPHARD?  ? let me count the ways....

 if i say  "bentley go lie down"  and he doesn't  i might say  next "bentley !"  

 and the next command would be  SHARPLY   "bentley what did you not understand?"  and he would lie down 

BECAUSE HE HEARD ME IN THE FIRST PLACE.

with an obedience trained dog , it would  be "bentley down"."bentley down"."bentley down".

IF YOU TEACH A GOLDEN RETIERVER TO GET A BEER OUT OF THE  REFRIGERATOR, HE WILL DO IT WHEN YOU ASK.   IF YOU TEACH A DANE TO DO IT... YOU BETTER NOT LEAVE HIM HOME ALONE. THEY SEEM TO USE THIER KNOWLEDGE DIFFERENTLY,

I REMEMBER... BROWNIE-- A HUGE MERLE- LOVELY DOG-- ONE DAY SITTING SOMEWHERE WAITING FOR SOMETHING I TAUGHT HIM TO OPEN THE CAR DOOR- NOT LONG AFTER I WAS IN A STAR MARKET AND I HEARD "WILL SHOPPERS ALL COME TO THE FRONT OF THE STORE IMMEDIATELY"  I  DID AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS A WILD ANIMAL IN THE STORE---  BROWNIE--  HAPPILY  RUNNING THE AISLES LOOKING FOR ME....TEH STORE HAD AN AUTOMATIC DOOR OPENER... I WAS VERY EMBARASED... ALSO LUCKY  BECAUSE HE HAD CROSSED THRU TRAFFIC TO GET THERE.

I THINK WE NEED TO REVISIT HOW AND WHY ANY RECORDS ARE KEPT-- MEGAN'S DAILYS ARE A WEALTH OF INFORMATION- BUT THEY ARE KEPT  IN  A MANNER NOT CONDUCIVE TO USING TEHM FOR ANY PURPOSE-- I AM TOLD GWEN HAS FOUND AN "APP" FOR KEEPING RECORDS THAT CAN BE DROPPED TO A COMPUTER FOR "USE"SOMEHOW THAT SOUNDS BETTER.  I THINK A FEW WORDS  WITH A LOCATION AND DATE WOULD BE FAR MORE USEFUL THAN THE 18 OR SO _______'GRADES" ON CHORES.- BECAUSE YOU NEVER COULD LIST ALL THE POSSIBLE "CHORES" 

I AM REMINDED OF THE BOOK "PLEASE DON'T EAT THE DAISYS"   A WOMAN LEAVES DIRECTIONS FOR HER CHILD NEVER THINKING THE KID WOULD EAT HER FLOWERS...  THAT IS SORT OF WHERE DOG TRAINING IS AT.

I HAD 3 SPECTACULAR PROBLEMS- MEGAN RESCUED ME ONCE FROM A SITUATION WHERE A YOUNG  DOG DROPPED TO THE FLOOR WHEN HE SAW HIS IMAGE IN THE ANGLED MIRROR OVER THE MEAT COUNTER AND JUST WOULD NOT STAND UP-- I SENT A SHOPER LOOKING FOR "THE WOMAN WITH ANOTHER DOG..."

AND THEN- BALLOONS... I WENT INTO A SHAWS- NO PROBLEM-- NOT NOTICING THE BALLOONS OVER EACH REGISTER-  I BET IT TOOK ME AN HOUR TO GET THAT PUP OUT THE DOOR.

AND THEN BOBBIE--- BENTLEY'S GRANDFATHER - WENT SPREAD EAGLE  IN THE DOOR TO THE LAHEY HOSPITAL CAFETERIA- SLIPPERY FLOOR-- AND JUST WOULD NOT EVEN TRY TO GET UP..  MUCH TO THE AMUSEMENT OF THE CROWD.... IT LEFT ME ON MY HANDS AND KNEES TRYING TO GET THE 175 POUND DOG  ON HIS FEET...

LAURA HAS A VERY WELL TRAINED DOG... MY DEFINITION OF A TRAINER IS "WHAT IS THEIR DOG LIKE?"
