in a struggle to keep our eye on our missions.....i want to make it clear-- we do like visitors and we do need volunteers to work and help us... so in the process... we would like to try keeping track of who is on the property  and  why -- it has got out of hand-  there are people wandering around  no one seems to know.-- either that or they don't come often enough for me to remember who  they are... whatever...  i am pretty good with staff names-- all 14 of them-- and janine's-- but  linda came up with the idea of-- sign in with name tags. my memory was a challangeable sort at the age of 20- and it has not got any better...when it is really bad is when  teh staff does not know who is here or why... either...

i hate to say to aNYONE  " HAVE YOU BEEN HERE BEFORE?" 

AND HAVE THEM SAY " I HAVE BEEN COMING EVERY THURSDAY FOR FIVE YEArs."

it is embRASSING......

we don't have a sign in sheet yet--- or name tags... but maybe by june first.( tomotrrow  i am working on it/

it would help in the writing of grants to be able to say 937 people come there every month---

LEAD HER OUT THE CAFE LE DONK GATE AND GO DIRECTLY TO THE BOX

 LET HER EAT TEH GRAIN.

PUT TEH FRY PAN IN THE TRACTOR BUCKET- WITH ANOTHER HANDFUL

GET HER LEFT FOOT ONTEH BOX 

AND ENCOURAGE HER TO LIFT AND GET THE GRAIN

BACK HER DOWN AND  CIRCLE AND DO teh foot lifting again....

PROBABLY 20 MINUTES And take her back

twice a day...  10 am and 3 pm  on puppy hill camera

about the third day you do this, i would expect you no longer have to take her  to the box

or lift a foot-- or have teh tractor there... so you end up with a donkey  running to the box and standing there saying "where's the oats?"

and hopefully-- what else do you want me to learn????

if that  happens we are off and running ...

we sholud now have 2 litters coming.... gabby abd sizzle..... it will be perfect if they ahve 6 pups each  -- if they each have 13, life will get lively---sizzle has been "covered"  by tigger--- what a nice looking dog he is. there was a slight problem returning his equipment to the  origional container- since megan was unavailable i did the honors.  we will test it again today. our usual schedule is  ---day 9 til out-- and missing a day is not a big deal because- at one point i have tested teh life span of teh "swimmers" by carrying a vial on my person... so to speak.... 48 hours seems to be teh survival time.

we have a nice microscope- which we have on ocassion been able to use-- we can use it only when a scope savvy cp is around to get it functioning-- as it has to be hooked to a computer..  need i say more???/

sizzle  is still "exposed" to bentley  but the likehood of success there is minimaal.. he has not sired pups since the electrical accident- i did ask kone elevators to replace his stud services, , but they ignored my request.

if bentely does connect, we would not know paternity-- it is possible to have some  in the litter from each dad.  i would not care -- the pups should all be good ones--- except ---- if we decided to use one for breeding we would need to be certain of the father--  in whinc case we coud do a dna test--- been there done  that...

accounting----since we became "A BIG OUTFIT"   WE NEEDED TO HAEV AN OFFICIAL ACCOUNTANT--     me with my excell spread sheet was no longer in vogue. so to keep our charity status, we inherited "tim'  from an actual accounting firm. -- and he came for a visit---   teh different accounting methods are annoying at best...plans  A and B

A----my spreadsheet method was simple-- someone gives us $100... it goes in the bank... and we spend it---and "the books' reflect that. your bank  statements will keep all that perfectly straight.

however----  B---- if someone says they are going to give us $100 over 2 year, teh entire $100 is income in year one even tho you got only $50-- this is not the bad part--- it is the second year when it looks like your income has dropped $100 and as you spend this $50 that was on last years books, it looks like you went $50 in the red.. -- it is a legitimate  

way to keep books- but exceedingly more complicated as you really need to keep not only acconts recievable-  and account payable. but an accounting firm to come and do their thing,.

tim was aggreable tho-- he said he can do the plan A for normal people to read. yet do teh irs type report in plan  B style.

UPDATE FROM HEIDI AND SERVICE DOG RIZZ:

WE HAD A TORNADO WATCH WHILE I WAS AT WORK YESTERDAY AFTERNOON IN DC AT THE DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE BUILDING. WHEN WE GET A TORNADO WATCH, WE EVACUATE TO THE SUB-BASEMENT OF THE BUILDING. AS IN ALL EMERGENCY SITUATIONS, I HAVE THE OPTION TO SHELTER IN PLACE UNTIL EMERGENCY PERSONNEL CAN EVACUATE ME. SEEING AS HOW MY OFFICE HAS WINDOWS AND IS ON THE TOP FLOOR OF THE BUILDING, I DECIDED IT WASN'T THE BEST PLACE TO BE WAITING WHILE WATCHING FOR A TORNADO....I DIDN'T WANT TO BE THE FIRST ONE TO SEE IT . SO RIZZ AND I HEADED DOWN THE 12 FLIGHTS OF STAIRS WITH THE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS MAKING THE SAME JOURNEY. THERE WERE PEOPLE CROWDED IN FRONT OF US AND BEHIND US, BUT RIZZ KEPT PACE WITH THE CROWD WITH, "STEP, BRACE, STEP BRACE, STEP BRACE...". WHEN WE GOT TO THE SUB-BASEMENT, THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION WITH EVERYONE WAS HOW CALM AND WELL BEHAVED RIZZ WAS. SINCE THIS WAS RIGHT AT THE TIME OF THE EVENING COMMUTE, WHEN THE TORNADO WATCH WAS OVER, WE HAD TO WALK TO THE TRAIN STATION IN A DELUGE OF RAIN AND STAND IN IT ON THE PLATFORM WHILE WAITING FOR THE DELAYED TRAIN. ALSO, SINCE THE TRAINS HAD BEEN DELAYED, THE PLATFORM WAS PACKED WITH PEOPLE AND AGAIN, THE TOPIC OF CONVERSATION AROUND US WAS HOW GOOD RIZZ WAS. WE ENDED THE DAY BY STOPPING AT THE STORE AND WHILE WE WERE CHECKING OUT, RIZZ LAY ON THE FLOOR AND RESTED HER HEAD ON THE BOTTOM OF THE SHOPPING CART AND SLEPT. IT STRUCK ME THEN THAT THIS WAS JUST A 19 MONTH OLD PUPPY THAT HAD A REALLY HARD WORK DAY! I KNOW SHE WILL CONTINUE TO MATURE INTO HER WORK, BUT YESTERDAY, SHE PERFORMED AS IF SHE HAD BEEN DOING THIS FOR YEARS - THANK YOU AND THE TRAINERS FOR SUCH A GREAT PARTNER!

is there a budding genius out there who can design a  childproof carrot chopper? i have visions of some kind of "chop saw"  arraingement  so people-- usually young ones--- can chop carrots for teh cafe le donk-- ther e must be some way of guarding the blade til it is impossible to get a finger under it.  have at it guys..

YESTERDAY WE TOOK OUR FINAL TRIP TO WONDERLAND WITH ACADEMY PLAYERS OF RHODE ISLAND! THEATRE IS SOMETHING THAT HAS BEEN A PART OF MY LIFE ON AND OFF FROM MY EARLY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL YEARS, AND I'M DELIGHTED THAT IT'S FOUND ME AGAIN EVEN AFTER COLLEGE AND DURING THE FRENZY OF LAW SCHOOL, LIKELY WHEN I NEEDED IT MOST. THIS TIME WAS DIFFERENT THOUGH, BECAUSE I SHARED MY FAVORITE HOBBY WITH MY BEST FRIEND WHO GOT TO GRACE THE STAGE RIGHT ALONG WITH ME! ASHER'S SUCH A HIT WITH EVERYONE HE MEETS AND I'VE BEEN SO HAPPY TO SHARE HIM AND HIS MANY TALENTS (I GUESS WE CAN ADD ACTOR TO THE LIST NOW!) WITH OUR FRIENDS AT ACADEMY OVER THE PAST FEW MONTHS, BUT WE'RE ALSO SO THANKFUL TO HAVE BEEN SO WELL RECEIVED AND ACCOMMODATED BY THE WHOLE CAST. ASHER DESERVES LOTS OF CREDIT TOO FOR NOT ONLY ALWAYS BEING ON HIS BEST BEHAVIOR, BUT DOING THAT WHILE PUTTING UP WITH LOUD TAP DANCERS AND MUSIC, BRIGHT LIGHTS, DIFFERENT AUDIENCE MEMBERS EACH NIGHT, AND PLANNED CHAOS ON STAGE IN ACT TWO WHEN EVERYONE SCATTERS TO AN EXIT. ASHER'S ALWAYS BEEN SO STEADY FOR ME, BUT HAS PROVEN WITH OUR LATEST ENDEAVOR THAT HE'LL TAKE VIRTUALLY ANYTHING IN STRIDE!

JODY WANTS TO GO ON A XXXX RUN FIRST THIG THIS MORNING---  TRailer is all loaded...   BRICK ENDS FARM IN HAMILTON...AN INTERESTING COMPOSTING PLACE  WHERE YOU MAY DROP OFF YOUR  HORSE MANURE   for free AND 2 YEARS LATER BUY IT BACK  AS PERFECT GROWING MEDIUM....LAST TIME I WAS THER THE PILE WAS AT LEAST TWICE THE HEIGHT OF OUR ARENA... IT GOOGLES-- it is also a lesson in taking useless and turning it into valyable by using what you have available-- in this case  brains and time.;  it is well run.

i enjoy trying to get the younger kids here to use their "education " in a practical setting.  usually geometry- so many kids see absolutely no reason  to study geometry- totally missing out on the logic it is supposed to develope- but even so-- there is a practical use.. especially around here.. i have spent time proving  that boards nailed  in very lopsided will stabalize a rectangular wall-- or hold up a mailbox... 

the other day-- while working on the cafe  le donk----  we ---  keagan , anotehr volunteer xxxx and i -- were trying to get the posts lined up and even  in prep for puttin on some kind of roof to support a tarp.  lined up was out of the question  since  teh concrete guy came before i acttually lined up the holes dug by the corp exec's on their community service day-- these were 15 people with desk jobs- who -- were hysterical.-- bright , intelligent people, totally out of their element...  in the fresh air...

eager to help, they lined up as i explained we needed about 24 holes -- 3 lines of 8---  about 6 inches deep   --- into which i would put pvc pipe and then pour the concrete floor.  a guy said "give me a post hole digger" and a woman said "we need a level" -- i gave the guy one of the many pos hole digging devices we own.. and also handed him a screw driver and soup spoon- which in this case was-- in my opinion the way to go.   teh woman and i  chuckled at the level and concept of up and down -- i had stretched strings, but those were in the way and got taken down....  as these people sat down on the ground with their soop spoons.-- conversation was lively- and teh concept of "straight line"  got lost-- but i figured i would cope somehow-- i was only trying to put up a tent...

teh concrete guy had a pretty good eye--  and straightened up  the 24 pieces of pvc pipe  as he poured teh concrete.

2 days later we were set to continue  using heavier pipe -- due to  ---   we had to span longer distance because 2 points determine a line-- and there were no 3   of our holes in an kind of straight line..skipping the middle  holes, it was necessary to get theswe end posts level--  it was not immediate because all these holes were of different depth.

that is where we were when keagan ,xxxxx,,, and i were putting teh 10 ' long pipe in teh pvc. i measured 4 pipes for teh "ridge" top line..

now you have to pay attention.... they were   107  109  108 116 inches tall... -- i decided teh easiest height to go for was 109-- so keagan put a few handfulls of stone dust back in teh holes so we had  3 at 109  and the 116... which we were going to have to cut.

how much??? - it was a simple 7 inches too tall??? cut off 7 inches- but i thought i would  challange the thinking and stuck my tape  in teh hole- and said  "the hole is 4 inches deep"   that confused  both keagan and the other guy xxxx-  -- i said don't cut it til you can prove to me you are right- and i left. --they spent teh next 1/2 hour trying to figure out how much to cut-  when i came back , i could see too much information had clouded ther thinking.  they were getting no where- so i told them to forget it- and next time they were here i expected them to  be able to explain to me where  and why to cut the pipe-- simple 109 inches tall and 4 inches in the hole=113 inches from a 120" pipe... is teh same 7 inches  that it was too tall...  -  

i honestly do not know what i said...  these were 2 at least high school graduates- i might have got into my "mental exercise" speech- which i often get into-- keagan has been around here a while and is used to my  chalanges to  his thinking...  what i did not know-- was teh opther guy xxxx-- was offended-- and went home and wrote a terrible letter  explaining how awful l rude i had been to him... he was getting the same treatment as keagan--  "why do you want me to cut 4"??...  prove it !!   that makes no sense !!   is teh kind of thing i am sure i said..  

keagan was back teh next day-- with his solution-- the other guy sent teh letter... which i will share with teh board.

this could mean another sign on the gate --" hard hats and heads required."

eve and finn....

First the fun news then the not so fun.... 

On Saturday Eve got to participate in a Ballroom dancing class alongside some of her fashion show friends at Fred Astaire Dance Studios of Brookfield. She did a great job and had a great time! I’m sure we will go again! It was a great workout for her arms and her hips. Finn was quite happy to be a spectator at this event!! 

Unfortunately over several days - beginning last week - Eve kept hurting her right arm. I first thought she just tweaked the wrist joint a little. Apparently it first hurt mid week during dance class when she shot her hand up in the air, then she hurt it lifting math books onto her desk,  she’s trying to tell me it’s all math’s fault she broke her arm so therefore no more math - she’s a funny one! (apparently it was fine during ballroom dancing but - 🤔) then we came home and outside a bug startled her and that was the last straw, she was in quite a bit of pain. So Sunday we were in the ER for - I don’t know 3-4 hours. Apparently ERs are busy on holiday weekends 🤣. None the less she has 3 small fractures in her lower right arm and she is really out growing the pins in those bones that give them stability and keep them straight.  Even still, they did their job and kept them from being big fractures. So we will be sending those xrays to her surgeon and since we will be considering surgery anyway we will get new xrays of her femur and see if he’s ready to fix that as well.  Its been almost 2 years without a surgery- that’s the longest she’s ever gone without needing one. She’s a little bored with a still weak leg and now her dominant is out of commission. These are the days I love her tablet! We have 3 days of school left so that will keep her occupied until things become a little more comfortable when she can use her arm more even while immobilized.

63 DAYS  GESTATION -- SO WE ARE-- HOPEFULLY-- AT IT AGAIN... MOMMY NATURE HAS BEEN HARD ON US THIS SPRING--- OUR GIRLS DID NOT SEEM TO BE CYCLING AS EXPECTED-- MAYBE IT WAS THE WEATHER????  MOMMY Nture has strange ways...

THAT COULD SOUND STRANGE... EXCEPT--- THERE IS/was  A RUMOR THAT I TOOK SERIOUSLY YEARS AGO WHICH CAUSED ME TO TRY AND GROW QUANTITIES OF GRASS  NOT ONLY ON  ON MY KITCHEN COUNTR--  BUT IN AN OLD REFRIGERATOR.. WITH ONE EYE ON PROGRESSING TO A SHIPPING CONTAINER ( LIKE THE ONE THAT HOLDS OUR DOG FOOD NOW.

the registration of horses dictated they would all age one year  on january 1st.- in the racing world thaT MEANS THAT A FOAL BORN ON CHRISTMAS WOULD BE RACING AGAINST HORSES A YEAR OLDER-- SO THE GAME IS TO GET MARES BRED  IN FEB AND MARCH- TEHIR GESTATON IS 11 MONTHS AND THEY DON'T COME IN HEAT IN TEH WINTER.. RUMOR HAS IT-- THAT  SOME GREEN GRASS WOULD START THIER BREEDING CYCLE-- THAT WAS MOMMY NATURE'S WAY OF MAKING FOALS BE BORN IN THE SPRING. WE HAD A THOROBED MARE WE WANTED TO BREED--- HENCE THE GRASS PROJECT.

SO BACK TO DOGS.... I DON'T KNOW HOW/WHY MOMMY NATURE DECIDES ALOT OF THIGNS.. BUT NOW BOTH GABBY  AND 3 DAYS BEHIND HER IS SIZZLE- ARE  FLIRTING WITH THE BOYZ( GABBY/WATSON  SUCCESSFULLY  25  MINUTES)

I AM READY--- LORD KNOWS  THIS MEANS IT IS TIME FOR THE  INTERNEGATIVES TO ATTACK ME FOR WHATEVER DECISIONS I HAVE MADE REGARDING  OUR PUPPIES.

LET US REMEMBER THE BUNCH  THAT GAVE ME  GRIEF OVER LETTING PEOPLE USE THIER CELL PHONES IN THE BIRTHING ROOM ---- I WAS FOOLISH  BECAUSE I DIDN'T KNOW CELL PHONES ARE WHAT CAUSED STILLBORNS.?

SO LET ME SAY UP FRONT--- I DON'T THINK WE HAVE EVER HAD AS NICE A BUNCH OF PUPS AS WE NOW HAVE... TO THE PUP, THEY ARE SPECTACULAR---  I WOULD LOVE TO TAKE THE CREDIT FOR THAT- EXCEPT IF I DID MOMMY NATURE WOULD RISE UP AND  MAKE A FOOL OF ME FOR BELIEVING THA FOR ONE MINUTE.

AT ANY MOMENT  MOMMY COULD CHOOSE TO PRODUCE AN  ENTIRE LITTER OF PUPS WITH 2 HEADS. BELIEVE ME-- I KNOW THAT...  ALL I CAN DO IS MAKE A RESPONSIBEL ATTEMPT TO PRODUCE PERFECT PUPS.  as for breeding both females--- if there is anyone "out there" who is willing to say   out loud--- with name attached--- and maybe  a large wager( which - if possible -- i will match-- just to keep it interesting-)- that it will be too many pups-- speak up now-- we have had both 1 pup and 13 pups in litters- so if we go for the avg of 6 per litter , that owuld be fine. to breed only one female and have her produce only  1 or 2 pups woudl be terrible for the people waiting for dogs. - 

 so it is a gamble-- i know--  we will deal--  if they have 13 pups each it may get lively- but as long as our volunteers want a dane-- and megan has lots of friends who want danes,... we will be ok...

 we may have problems-- i know the vast majority of  our cp's won't throw SDP under the bus -but you all have to realize we could have 2 headed pups...

SO... BACK TO A COMMENT ABOUT HORSES... I AM OPPOSED TO RACING HORSES-- FOR MANY REASONS.  THEY LEAD A MISERABLE LIFE SOMETIMES STANDING FOR HOURS IN HUGE TUBS OF ICE WATER BEFOR A RACE SO THEY  CAN'T FEEL THE PAIN IN THEIR FRONT LEGS.  "BEING  ICED" IS A NORMAL EXPRESSION AROUND  TEH BACKSTRETCH.

 LETS FACE IT--- A GAMBLER WILL BET ON ANYTHING--- SO WHY NOT RACE COCKROACHES.  ALL WE NEED IS FOR ADVERTISING TO PURSUADE PEOPLE COCKROACHING IS  TEH  'NEW THING__"

DON'T LAUGH--- THE WHOLE  INDUSTRY OF MANIPULATING  TEH MINDS OF THE  MASSES HAS MADE INDIVIDUAL THOUGHT NEARLY  IMPOSSIBLE.

"CAFE LE DONK" IS LOOKING BETTER ALL THE TIME...--- I MOVED THE TABLE TO WHERE YOU CAN SEE IT FROM THE PUPPY HILL CAMERA-- AND JANINE'S BUNCH OF LILACS REALLY SET IT OFF NICELY-- THAT TABLE AND CHAIRS ARE VERY COMFORTAQBEL, EXPENSIVE AND MADE OF PEPSI BOTTLES ( RECYCLED PLASTIC) SO THEY SHOUDL ENDURE..

HAVING POCKETS BACK AND TH E HORSES GONE  - TEH ATMOSPHERE IS ONE OF PEACE AND SERENITY..

 THAT ONE SPOTTED HORSE WAS A GOOD ONE... AN HONEST BEAST WHO WHEN ANYONE ( MIKE) GOT ON HER  SHE CAREFULLY MINCED HER WAY AROUND BEING VERY CAREFUL- I KNOW JANINE WILL FIND HER A GOOD FOREVER HOME--- SHE IS EXACTLY WHAT THE SUMMER CAMPS WOULD LIKE  BUT IN THE FALL THAT WOULD PUT HER BACK IN THE KILL PEN CIRCULATION AGAIN, AS IT IS EX[PENSIVE TO KEEP HORSES YEAR ROUND---

 I REMEMBER--- THE SUMMER CAMP I WENT TO IN VERMONT- OFFERED "RIDING"  AND HAD A SHED WITH10 STRAIGHT STALLS- WITH 10 VERY THIN- VERY QUIET HORSES- AND TEH NEXT YEAR 10 DIFFERENT  VERY THIN VERY QUIET,...... NOW THAT I AM MORE FAMILIAR WITH JANINE'S OPERATION, I CAN SEE THE PROGRESSION...   SO THAT "PAINT"  MARE IS LUCKY-- JANINE WILL FIND HER A HOME OR KEEP HER.

I CAN SAY.....SEEING AS TEH HORSE/DONKEY  FINANCIAL OPERATION IS SEPARATE FROM SDP, I WILL KEEP ENOUGH FUNDS AVAILABLE TO JANINE FOR HER HAY/VET  BILL UNTIL SHE IS "CLEANED UP"  AND  SETTLED.   

I CAN HEAR  SOME OF THE CP'S NOW--- "WE WANT YOU TO KEEP HER" -  I AM SURE YOU ALL DO--- EXCEPT SHE JUST DOES NOT FIT--  SHE HAS ENTIRELY DIFFERENT  SKILLS AND LIMITATIONS.... I DON'T KNOW AS I WOLULD EVER WALK AROUND BEHIND HER WITH THE CONFIDENCE I HAVE WITH THE DONKEYS OR MULES.- LET ME TRY --- AGAIN.... IF YOU ANNOY  A DONKEY TO THE POINT OF "REALLY MAD"   THEY WILL SWAT AT YOU WITH  ONE BACK FOOT - HOWEVER....   IF YOU SNEEZE IN TEH WRONG DIRCTION  AZND STARTLE  A HORSE- TEHY WOULD... WITHOUT THOUGHT . LET FLY WITH BOTH BACK FEET.-- THINKING BACK 40 YEARS OF DONKEYDOM,  OTHER THAN A FEMALE DONKEY TELLING A MALE TO GET LOST, I DON'T THINK I HAVE EVER SEEN A 2 FOOTED KICK FROM A DONKEY--  IN THE FEW DAYS THOSE 3 HORSE TYPES WERE HERE WE HAD A HALFDOZEN EPISODES WHERE ... IF A PERSON WERE IN RANGE THEY WOULD HAVE BEEN SERIOIUSLY HURT.  THERE ARE PLACES HORSES BELONG- IN STALLS- UNDER SERIOUS CONDITIONS...DONKEYS ON TEH OTHER HAND, ARE MUCH LESS LABOR INTENSIVE- TO PUT HER BACK IN WITH OUR DONKEYS WOULD MEAN NO ONE  SHOULD CONSIDER GO IN WITH THE DONKS TO  BRUSH THEM.

SHE WAS ...IN THAT SITUATION  DANGEROUS--- SO IT ALWAYS DOES EXIST...  

YOU CAN WATCH FOR THEM- LIKE A SMALL BIRD !!

cafe le donk made huge progress----3/4 DONE... chip's plan B is doing beautifully. --he is fun to watch-- he plans ahead- which is somewhat unknown around here...  there was none of teh usual "do you have any xxxx???" thAT IS SO OFTEN THE CASE WITH  SDP PROJECTS... IF HE NEEDED 4"  BOLTS  HE HAD 10 OF TEHM IN A LITTLE BOX... WITH THE APPROPRIATE KNUTT --- IT WAS --AMAZING.. ALSO FUN WAS HIS CRANK UP  PIPE LIFTING DEVICE I HAVE NEVER SEEN BEFORE  HE COULD LIFT THOSE OVERHEAD PIPES 10 FEET IN THE AIR WITH VERY LITTLE CONFUSION...-- ALTHO I DID BACK OUT OF THE WAY...

MY ONL PROVBLEM IS--- THE HORSES-- WHETHER PONIES OR BIG DRAFTIES... HORSES ARE NOT DONKEYS CONFRONTED WITH ANY CRO9WDING AQT TEH FEEDER. A POLITE DONKEY SWISHES A TAI.. AHN JERKS THEIR HEAD AOBUT 3 INCHES OUT OF CHEWING RANGE.. WHERE IF 2 HORSES.....ONE  HORSE- BAcks up STARTS KICKING, SCREAMS AND TURNS AROUND TO BITE IF TEH KICK DIDN'T CHASE THE OTHER AWAY..- IN THE PROCESS LOOSES THIER PLACE AT TEH FEEDER- WHICH IN THE ANGER OF TEH CHASE- THEY DON'T SEEM TO NOTICE.-- WHERE THE  MORE THOUGHTFUL DONKEY NEVER MISSES A MOUTHFUL.

SOUNDS RIDICOULOUS - AND IT IS-- 

WHAT IT ALSO MEANS IS TO HAVE  ANYONE WANDER IN THE DONKEY PEN TO PAT DONKEYS HAS REDUCED THE SAFETY FACTOR FROM 98.4%  TO 1.3%. because of the horses and thier entirely different approach to life. 

MO IS HUGE---STILL NOT THE 1800 POUNDS SHE SHOULD BE... BUT  BIG... I HAVA ABSOLUTELY NO QUALMS ABOUT   GOING IN THE :"FEEDER" WITH HER....PUTTING MY HAND ON HER RUMP -- SAYING "MO PLEASE DO  NOT KICK ME" AND WALKING PAST  WITHIN INCHES OF HER REAR.-- ALL OF THAT TAKE S YEARS OF EXP[ERIENCE--- I PUT MY HAND ON HER RUMP TO SAY "HEY.. IN CASE YOU WERE NOT NOTICING... . I AM BACK HERE "  TEHN  IN CONVERSATIONAL TONES I  ASK HER NOT TO KICK ME- ADN .... SO FAR... SHE HAS NOT.  HER ATTITUDE HAS BEEN- PROBABLY-- IT IS NOT WORTH THE INTERUPTION OF MY HAY CHEWING PROJECT.

WHEN SHE FIRST ARRIVED, IF YOu GOT NEAR HER REAR END SHE WOULD KICK-- WITH GREAT ACCURACY--- IT WAS MY ASSUMPTION HTAT SHE WAS  "PUT IN STOCKS" TO  GET SHOES ON HER--  PROBAbly... teh blacksmith - in an effort to get the shoes on as quickly and accurately as possible, would  put her in an amazingly storng wood frame affair and tie her foot up in position for him to trijm adn nail on the shoe- this is never popular with horses  altho it is very common-- you hardly ever--- -- no make that -- i have never seen an older, and  tall blacksmith... by the time a young man gets enough experience to be good, his back is gone.... so he hires  an assistant--- ( i.i a young guy who's back isstill functioninig)   i  have mentioned before the 3 generations of kriz family that fly around the country and deal with the budweiser horses - all teh men are very short- now that i think about it..... i met one of them on a flight to california once--  the only baggage he had was teh usuall soft sidded leather  carry on -- with his hammers, knives  rasps...  and nippers--- --that would be hard to explain to security now.

back to mo---- it took 2? weeks of just touching her befor she relaxed...the other interesting part is, she was...  during this time....  totally safe to handle to harness- drive-- and un harness-- because she understood what was going on- and being an inteligent animal-  if there was no reason to kick... she didn't.

ALL OF THIS IS TOTALLY RELATED TO MUZZLES AND VETERNARIANS AND OUR DANES,,,,.

where you could now get in trouble with mo is to shut the  stalll door in her face when she thinks she ought to be allowe to go thru that door...  she might flip it with her nose and fling you across teh alleyway...

she needs to have someone hold her  while she grazes on my grassy patch-- and she wou ld stand tehre-- left alone, she wantes to run up and down boxford road... and i don't seem to be able to get her to understnad-- my rule there is an unrelenting one

I know I just wrote you with Rizz’s two month update, but I am so proud of her remarkable performance yesterday, that I want to share it with you.

We had a tornado watch while I was at work yesterday afternoon in DC at the Department of Agriculture building.  When we get a tornado watch, we evacuate to the sub-basement of the building.  As in all emergency situations, I have the option to shelter in place until emergency personnel can evacuate me.  Seeing as how my office has windows and is on the top floor of the building, I decided it wasn’t the best place to be waiting while watching for a tornado....I didn’t want to be the first one to see it 😊.  So Rizz and I headed down the 12 flights of stairs with the hundreds of others making the same journey. There were people crowded in front of us and behind us, but Rizz kept pace with the crowd with, “step, brace, step brace, step brace...”.  When we got to the sub basement, the topic of conversation with everyone was how calm and well behaved Rizz was.  Since this was right at the time of the evening commute, when the tornado watch was over, we had to walk to the train station in a deluge of rain and stand in it on the platform while waiting for the delayed train.  Also, since the trains had been delayed, the platform was packed with people and again, the topic of conversation around us was how good Rizz was.  We ended the day by stopping at the store and while we were checking out, Rizz lay on the floor and rested her head on the bottom of the shopping cart and slept.  It struck me then that this was just a 19 month old puppy that had a really hard work day!  I know she will continue to mature into her work, but yesterday, she performed as if she had been doing this for years - thank you and the trainers for such a great partner!

FOR TODAYS AMUSEMENT...... CAFE DONK---  IS ON THE MENU -  A CP " CHIP" IS COMING HERE EARLY (7AM)  WITH A COLLECTION OF PIPE TO TRY AND GET THEE TARP OVER THE FEEDER-  TEH EFFORT ON THE BACK HALF WILL BE VISABLE FROM THE DONKEY CAMERA... PER USUAL  IT WILL BE A BIT OF A COLLETION OF ODD BITS---  I MADE AN ASSUMPTION THAT  TEH 4 INCH PIECE OF 1/4 INCH PIPE  AT HOME DEPOT MEANT THAT THERE WOULD BE 10 SECTIONS OF 1/4 INCH EASILY AVAILABLE... WHEN IN FACT IT AS BEEN DETERMINED THER IS ONLY 63 FEET OF 1/4  AVAILABLE IN NEW ENGLAND.

YESTERDAY'S SOJOURN AT TEH EMERGENCY ROOM  PROVED THAT  TEH BIG SPIKE IN MY BLOOD PRESSURE WAS PROBABLY DUE TO... THIS COMPUTER-- BERCAUSE THE REST OF MEE SEEMS TO BE WORKING FINE.-  IN TEH ER.... I WAS POKED AND PRODED -- AND  STRESSED WITH NO ALARMING RESULTS..  I MADE 9 MONKEY FISTS FOR EVERYONE IN TEH ER.. AQND THEN CAME HOME.. TO A FREEZER FULLOF ICE CREAM "POPS" -- THIS WAS A GREAT THIIGN.

LET US DISCUSS MICROPHONES.... EXPLORE HAS CHANGED SOMETHIGN TECHNOCILOCALLY--  WHICH HAD CAUSED THERE TO BA ABOUT A 2 MINUTE LAG TIME-- INSTEAD OF TEH 45 SECONDS..  DOESNT MAKE A BIG DIFFERENCE  EXCEPT..

NOW HERE IS THE TRICKY PART...  AT 5 PM MAIL CALL.... CP'S HAVE BEEN TRAINED BY ME TO CALL AND TELL ME I HAVE FORGOTTEN TO SWITCH ON THE MIKE... HAPPENED ALL TEH TIME...  SO NOW... WITH THE EXTENDED DELAY IN TRANSMISSION, PEOPLE AE ASSUMIONG   "SHE FORGOT AGAIN"  -- WHEN IT IS ACTUALLY TEH 2 MINUTE DELAY- CAUSING 4 PEOPLE TO CALL AND THINK THER  WAS NO SOUND..-- WHAT I DON'T UNDERSTAND IS  IF THE PICTIURE AND SOUND ARE TRANMITTEED TOGETEHRE.. , UNLESS THEY HAVE ME ON THE PHONE - WHY SO MUCH CONFUSION??  I CAN SEE WHERE THT TYPED COMMENTS 2 MIN COMING AND GOING  MIGHT ALTER TEH GAME

I brought Rizz home two months ago and I am proud to say that I have lost three pounds.  I am not announcing this to be congratulated for my excellent diet....I still eat as usual, but rather to acknowledge the impact Rizz has had on my activity level.  When Max ( my prior SD) got sick, I had quit walking outside, because balancing on canes was too much of a challenge.  Now that I have Rizz, I am back to enjoying being outdoors and feeling healthier because of it.  She has made such a difference in my life!  Thank you for taking a chance on us....she has given me freedom again!

Tina, please share this news with the CPS & SDP . Don passed away this morning. I think it was a heart attack, but dont know for sure yet. We just got back from Hawaii on Monday night. He had been feeling a little off the last couple days & had contacted his cardiologist before we came home. He had an appointment for this afternoon, but didn't make it that long.  The kids are coming tomorrow. My neighbors are good & helpful. I will be watching SDP when I can. I will keep in touch. (He was 74) Marlys

AND BRYAN--- (YOU KNOW-- VETERNARIAN   WHO HAS BEEN HERE-- LONG TIME FRIEND- NEARLY RELATIVE---)CAME TO PUT TH E HORSE TO SLEEP- AND LOOKED HIM OVER-- HE IS ONLY 10 AND DESEARVES A CHANCE............... SO HE IS STILL  AROUND--AND FROM THE VIDEO ON HER WEB, HE IS LOOKING PRETTY SOUND.

THE REST OF THAT STORY IS... IT LOOKS LIKE THIS IS TEH HORSE THAT WAS IN AN ACCIDENT IN AMISH COUNTRY WHERE A BUGGY WAS HIT AND THE HORSE HURT. WELL HE NOW IS ON SOME OF THE FINEST PASTURE IN TEH WORLD AT MY FRIEND ANN'S.

WHY DO I SAY "FINEST PASTURE?  BECASUE SOME 30 YEARS AGO I HAD OCASION TO DIG A POST HOLE ON THAT LAND-- AND TEH TOP SOIL GOES DOWN 3 FEET !!

during teh last cleanup[-- when "?ge?" people were here and we cleaned teh   g tent (giraffe garrage) i was all organized to use teh 4 feet next to the wall-- as storage-- as we do in t he arean---  the arch of the  trusses makes for perfect storage...  until it grows inward- til you caN'T REALLY GET IN THE PLACE AT ALL.-- THE PLACE I HAD PLANNED TO PUT THIGS LIKE THE WOOD SPLITTER-- OUT BEHIND TEH SHIPPING CONTAINER  IS NOW FULL OF GUINNEA HENS LIVING QUARTERS-- WHICH THEY WILL GO  INOT EVERY NIGHT AS LONGA AS YIOU HAVE A BAG OF DRIED WORMS.

BUT.... THINGS...... I HAVE A PAIR OF THE BIG SPRINGS THAT ARE FROM SOME CAR- JUNK YARD-- SOMEONE ALMOST THREW THEM OUT...  THEY ARE ONE OF THOSWE WHEN I GET AROUND TO IT...PROJECTS..

  WHEN THE KIDS WERE SMALL I CUT PLYWOOD IN 2 CIRCLES ABOUT 36" DIAMETER AND BOLTED ONE OF THOSE SPRINGS IN TEH CENTER.. GWEN AND JANINE SPENT HOURS TRYING TO STAND ON IT WITH OUT FALLING OFF.. FINALLY STARTING WITH IT UNDER TEH SWING SET  SO THEY COUD GET STARTED-- IT WAS A GREAT - ALL BE IT SOMEWHAT DANGEROUS TOY.

WELL HAVING  NOKIDS OF THAT AGE- I THOUGHT  MAYBE A SHORTENED SPRING AND PUT IT  IN THE PUPPY HILL  WITH  A PIECE OF HARD RUBBER ON THE TOP WOULD BE AN INTERESTING TOY FOR THE PUPS.... BEING SHORTENED IT WOULD NT WOBBLE TOO MUCH...

’m so blessed to have Pixie to walk by my side each and every day. We walk as one. I couldn’t do all the things I do without her. My legs are week they are angry and she keeps me going. Thank you SDP for giving me the ability to keep moving forward and living life to the fullest.

yesterday may be teh last day pre-bug of teh season.. most people talke about seeing the first robin of the season.. well.... i saw my first wasp---and  all those birds i worried about  are back and building nests in all the bird houses around

wasps--- in teh ground-- probaBLY HAVE A special name...   but around here... if youo see a wasp it will really help if you stop for 10 seconds and see if you see a second wasp in the same area-- if you do .. make note of where... and i wlll go on  wasp watch-- or get someone who  says "how can i help with my sore finger?" or whatever....   you can watch for and locate that 1/4 inch hole in the ground where you can see them coming and going- which indicates a huge nest underground which must be eradicated- 

thehre are many different approaches i have had-- setting a big rock squarely on to p has always seemed simple--  or filling it with commercial squirted foam....blowing it up is much more exciting- and keroscene does not blow but it interesting.

whatever you do... you will still need to address teh returning family mjembers-- we use a butterfly net to scoop them as they return and lionger where the entry hole used to be. tehn step on the net.

teh big rock and butterfly net are teh safesgt-- but i  should address teh chemical solution...squirted foam is probably the next safest-

EXPERIENCE COMES FROM BAD EXPERIENCES...

DO NOT USE GASOLINE.--  BETWEEN GETTING A TABLESPOON OF GAS IN THE HOLE,GETTING TEH REST OF TEH GAS OUT OF THE WAY AND TOSSING A MATCH -IT IS A COMBINATION FOR DISASTER...

 FYI--- THAT BIG EXPLOSION IN THE MOVIE  "BLOWN AWAY" OF TEH SHIP IN BOSTON HARBOR-- HUGGE EXPLOSION,, I AM TOLD  BY THE CREW... WAS DONE WITH ONLY 3 GALLONS OF GAS.--- AND 3 WEEKS L;ATER TEH FILM "PEOPLE" -- I SAW-- STILL WRITING CHECKS  AT THE LOCAL MCDONALDS....FOR BLOWN OUT WINDOWS AND CRACKED CHIMNEYS ALL OVER REVERE.

THE OTEHR FYI... I AM NO EXPERT, BUT KEROSCENE WILL BLOW IF SPRAYED--  A PUDDLE OF KERO WILL BURN VERY POLITELY, BUT IF YOU SPRAY-- OR TOSS IT INTO LITTLE DROPLETS, IT TOO WILL BLOW  AND IT WILL NOT SAY "MAY I?"

THE DIFFRERENCE  BETWEEN KERO AND DIESAL IS AN ARGUEMENT FOR TEH EXPERTS... IT HAS TO DO WITH DYING ONE SO  FOR TAX PURPOSES  ---  IT CAN OR CAN NOT BE USED   ON OVER TEH ROAD VEHICLES..

JUAT ANOTHER  "USE" OF CRAZY ACRES.... I HAve come to realize this place is a destination  of fathers and children-- mostly boy children-- they come with the full knowledge that plenty of things will need physicL ATTENTION..  A FATHER SON COMBINATION GOT ONE OF TEH CENTER HORIZONATALS PUT UP- LOOKS PERFECT... THAt happened after  

a coulle colege age kids and i measured teh height   OF TEH 4 "POSTS" THAT WILL HOLD TEH TOP OF THE TENT.

110-- 109-- 107.5--  116 INCHES FROM GROUND TO TOP OF POLE

 I MADE TEH EXECUTIVE DECISION  109 WOULD BE A GOOD NUMBER  110 ACCEPTABLE---- 

ALL THESE POSTS WERE 120 INCHES LONG-- TEH DIFFERENCE BEING THE HOLES IN THE GROUND BEFORE TEH CEMENT POUR. I ALSO MADE TEH EXECUTIVE DECISION THAT NO PIPE WOULD BE CUT WITHOUT MY AGREEING ON THE AMT CUT.  A CUP OF DIRT MADE TEH 107.5 EQUAL 109- AND WE STARTED....

IT WAS FASCINATING TO WATCH -- FOR VARIOUS REASONS- THE YOUNGER KIDS ( COLLEGE AGE) ALLOWED THEMSELVES TO BE CONFUSED WITH "ADDITIOHNAL FACTS" 

 I STUCK MY MEASUREING TAPE DOWN TEH HOLE OF TEH 116 PIPI AND FOUND  THE HOLE UNDER TEH CEMEMT WAS ONLY 4" DEEP- ONCE THAT 4" WAS IN THEIR HEADS  THEY COULD NOT FIGURE OUT ANY "CUT" 

  ( FOR THOSE OF YOU  NOTICING 116 + 4 = TEH 120" OR 10 FOOT PIPE I STARTED WITH..) THEY COUlD NOT FIGURE OUT HOW TO MAKE THAT EQUATe TEH 109" WE WANTED ABOVE GROUND. and every time i asked why tehy said  cut off "XX"   tehy could not give me a reason-- but the things tehy said were said with great conviction. by giving them too much information they got all confused ( as often happens- particularly in..  --- well never mind--)  they could no longer see if the pipe was 116 and we needed 109 that we should cut off 7 inches. 

all i had to do was say  "what about the 4" in the ground?" and confusion set in..

these are college kids--i am not picking on them specifically,  what i am picking on is the lack of "experiences" that teach things you could never learn in school- or from a COMPUTER/CELL PHONE EXPERIENCE.

SO BECAUSE OF SOME "KID"( BY MY STANDARDS)  AT THE LAST NURSING  HOME-- SHE SAID ALL I NEEDED WAS A FIRESTICK-  SHE SAID THEY WERE CHEAP---SO I WENT TO BEST BUY WITH A STRAIGHT FACE AND ASKED FOR A FIRESTICK- WHICH BY PRESENTING MY CHARGE CARD, I NOW OWN...

THE PATHETIC PART IS ... I AM VERY TIRED OF FAILING- AND AM TERRIFIED TO EVEN PLUG IT  IN--FURTHEREMORE-- TEH  INSTRUCKTONS- FORTUNATELY ONLY IN ENGLISH AND CHINESE-- SEEM SIMPL;E ENOUGH TO LOOK AT..

CUTTING AND PASTING... I CAN DO THAT

Today,  after spending 30 years in the South Pacific, and then spending 20 years in  the southwest desert  for the first  time I found a snake in my yard. No snakes in Hawaii, never a concern. Not so in the southwest desert. Rattlers abound.

 While reading on my lanai, birds began to raise a ruckus chirping loudly.  Zoey, my dog, ran to that area of the yard where birds were raising the  ruckus, and she began to bark loudly while backing away. Went to see  and there was a 6 FOOT SNAKE LYING AGAINST THE STUCCO WALL. Walking  over there to quickly get Zoey's attention to get her in the house before any harm could be done to her.

 Needless to say I was a mess to maneuver her back into the house. I did,  with the promise of a Greenie, her favorite snack.

 Then called the fire department, who in the desert remove snakes from people's homes, most often Rattlesnakes.  Fortunately they came and the snake was a Bullsnake, not a rattler.  They retrieved it, put it in a bucket to take out in the desert and release it. 

Needless to say it is a good thing that I am on blood pressure medicine!    S.

 teh rest of teh time 1:45 to 6:30  i made monkey fists  for all teh nurses and doctors   and  planned  the sequence of how to put the donkey feeder together.

i bet people don't know....  instead of screwing 2 pioeces of pipe togeter---  tehre is a new gismo which involved rubber washer and compression-- which  teh guy in ipsewich- tried to put togetehr...  it apparently works when packed in soil-- but had a slight wobble  which he saw as a failure in mid air...-- i heard goldie in my ear-- who said "broomstick"""  which -- shoved down teh center.  firmed up the whole thing... and the wobble--- turns out ---may be critical in getting the pipes lined up in the first place...  wobble is sometimes good with my  kind of tape meaqsuring--- i have been too long on the idiot end...

so to heck withit all-- i will go listen to my  books on cd's in my car--- comfortaqble seaT   ADJUSTABLE HEAT AND A/C ---- WHY NOT?.

I HEAR TELL A FATHER TYPE AND 2 SONS ARE COMING TOMORROW - SO BETWEEN THE FATHER LIFTER AND SON TO CUT 50 PIECES OF HAY STRINGS-- I HOPE PROGRESS WILL BE MADE ON TEH FEED-- THIS IS GOING TO TAKE A WHILE--- ESPECIALLY AS  IT MAY TAke 4 people to set it on it's feet...
