boy do we have dogs who travel--- i think merle gets the prize at 55 flights in 2 years... but i hear it all the time...flying to florida - things like that...it is a shockeer... almost like this whole SDP to begin with... HERE YOU CAN JUST TAKE HOLD OF HIS HAERNESS nd walk to the tree and back--aND PEOPLE DO IT---I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY BELIEVE ME BUT THEY DO-- AND IT WORKS
... WITH A VERY STRAIGHT FACE I TELL PEOPLE... YOU SHOULD JUAST GET ON THE PLANE AND ASK THE DOG TO BACK IN AND LIE DOWN------THE WHOLE TIME I AM THINKING "HOLY COW- THAT COUDL BE AN AWFUL MESS"
- BUT THANKS TO MEGAN AND STEVE--- THE DOGS DO IT- THUS PROVING YOU CAN ACCOMPLISH SOME AMAZING IDEAS IF YOU GET SOME VERY GOOD PEOPLE TO DO IT FOR YOU.
AND THEN THEY FLY TO IRELAND AND LEAVE ME TO STRUGGEL FOR 10 DAYS..
I STARTED SDP MAINLY BECAUSE I HAD SO MANY GREAT DANE PUPS BY ACCIDENT- I DIDN'T KNOW WHAT ELSE TO DO WITH THEM
I WOULD SAY THINGS LIKE "YOU JUST HOLD THE HANDLE AQND WALK" WHEN I DIDN'T HAV A CLUE IF THAT WOULD WORK OR NOT.... AND IT DID/ AND DOES.... FIDO WAS MY DEMO DOG with kids AT THAT POINT... NICE BIG HAPPY DOG ... DID NOT CAre where he went - and would wander around the mall- a huge goal of some of these kids is to be able to go to the mall without thier [parents.. andd teh parents goal is not to have to worry about their vulernable kid in public. i tested one of my first kids by giving her a $10 bill in one hand, fido in th other and told ehr to go ( with her younger brother) to the other end of the mall and i would meet them at the icecream shop.. how nuts was thata???? fido got them both there... no problem.
LUCKILY THERE WERE NO "BUT WHAT IF" PEOPLE AROUND TO STOP THE FORWARD PROGRESS... IT WAS A PURE "GOLDIE " MOMENT...
THATH IS KIND OF HOW I GOT IN THE DONKEY BUSINESS-- THE STABLE I WORKED AT AT THE AGE OF 10 HAD A "DONKEY NAMED "APPLE JACK" HE WAS A LOVLEY FRIENDLY THING LOOSE IN THE YARD TYPE... SO WHEN I HAD A LARGE YARD/SMALL FARM AND SAW A MINI DONKEY FOR SALE, I BOUTGHT HIM-- AND HE NEEDED A WIFE... SO I DID THAT TOO... HE WAAS VERY KINDLY-- AND AND LOVING-- BECAUSE OF HIS LOVING NATURE I SOON HAD 2 DOZEN- WITHOUT A HUGE MARKET FOR THEM--- PEOPLE BEGAN TO ASK "WHAT ON EAQRTH REE YOU GOING TO DO WITH ALL THOSE DONKEYS" RIGHT OFF THE TOP OF MY HEAD ONE DAY, I SAID I WAS GOING TO DRIVE 8 OF THEM LIKE THE BUDWEISER HITCH.. MANY MANY STORIES LATER AND WE WERE IN THE FRIEGHT ELEVATOR WITH 8 DONKEYS, ANTLERS, AND SANTA- ABOUT TO DRIVE THE BUNCH INTO THE 4TH FLOOR BALL ROOM OF THE WESTON HOTEL IN BOSTON-- I SHUTTER TO THINK OF ALL THE "BUT WHAT IF'S" WE TOTALLY IGNORED-- I THINK WE WERE PAID OVER $4000 TO DO IT- THAT STUFF PAID SOME HUGE COLLEGE TUITION SO IF NEEDED, MY KIDS COUDL SUPPORT ME IN MY OLD AGE.

Hi Carlene,
Just wanted to give you an update on Merle on her 3rd birthday! It has been almost 2 years (coming up in May!) that we have been together and I cannot thank you and everyone at SDP enough. Because of you all Merle has been by my side since the day we met and I couldn't be more grateful for what you have given to me. With Merle I no longer worry about falling because I know she will keep me balanced and because of that have been able to continue to work and that includes all the traveling associated. We have all heard about the travel issues lately but that does not impact us one bit. We are more than happy to provide our paperwork and show everyone what a trained service dog means, can do and should act like. Merle has been on 55 flights, traveled to each timezone and is welcomed each time because of her manners and she shows them she is there for me and is working. I cannot tell you how many compliments we get and how many times we have heard "there was a dog on this flight" and "I cannot get over how well behaved she is". She is so well mannered that even Delta has thanked us. I think Merle is getting used to hanging out at the Delta Sky Lounge at the airports. As we travel we talk about her training and the incredible Carlene and staff at Service Dog Project in Ipswich Massachusetts and we now have new friends from places like Norfolk Virginia, Cody Wyoming, Las Vegas Nevada, California, Maine, Minnesota, Florida and many more. We smile when people tell us they have heard about SDP and are watching or the best is when they tell us about seeing things like a new litter on explore.org. We will be up to see you and everyone around our anniversary and will again be bringing the fundraising we have been doing over the last year. Thank you, the trainers, the volunteers and everyone who supports SDP. My family and I cannot thank you enough.
