service dog..
I absolutely love what you guys do. When I was looking for a breed of dog for my mobility service dog, it was your program that led me to great danes. Since I didn't live in your required area, we found a private trainer and a breeder return of 2 and a half years old. A year later, Franklin and I couldn't be happier. He's calm and helpful during everything, even my medical emergencies. I can live my life out of bed because of this great dane.
I tell you this not only because you guys pointed my mom and I towards the right breed, but also because one of your amazing staff talked to us on the phone and assured us of the breed for mobility work. We had had a failed attempt with a different breed that wasn't fit for my specific needs so talking to your staff sealed the deal. i can not ever see my life without a Dane service dog...
staff?? has to be megan or me.
i will continue to declare-- danes are born for this job... just don't wreck them..
let's think of the logic for the moment.... we have a rule around here to try very hard to use your muscles to control a dane only in an emergency...
try this... you sit on the floor......... you pick up a puppy and put it in your lap because you want to hold a puppy in your lap....--- the reason you have to use your muscles is the puppy doesn't want to be in your lap... or he would be there... so you are starting the negative...".i don't want to do that and they forced me."
it is a tiny start but goes on to you picking up a dog and putting it in a crate-- or in our case a kennel...."it's quicker and i was in a hurry" dead wrong.... it take s some "plan ahead" you have to make them want to do what you want them to do....
best example around here--- and it is the result of many tiny footsteps to get there..... watch the dogs after they have been fed.... they can not wait to run back to their kennels, they turn around and a cookie is right in their faces... if i ever see a trainer ... or handler not have that cookie readty you will hear me stop the entire operation and have a serious discussion...-- to say "i didn't think" will put that person in charge of poo picking in the flat field.......just think the chaos of trying to get 40 dogs back in their kennels if they didn't want to go there... --right now.... at the moment.... getting all 12 pups in or out the door by shaking a cookie container... you must distribute cookies every time- it is the start of greater things to come.
that along with-- ONLY ONE PERSON CALL THE PUPPIES AT A TIME--- THE SECOND PERSON TRYING TO CALL TEH LAST PUPPY IN THE DOOR IS ACTUALLY CALLING THE OTHER 11 BACK OUT THE DOOR... DEFINITELY SCREWING THEM UP AT A N EARLY AGE.
THEY ARE BORN TRAINED DON'T WRECK THEM.

SO BACK TO WHEN TO RETIRE A SERVICE DOG..? I ASSUME THIS PERSON MEANS WHEN TO HAVE THEM OFF DUTY-- BECAUSE HAVING BEEN A SERVICE DOG FOR YEARS MEANS THAT DOG IS ATTACHED... AND WILL NOT UNDERSTNAD " RETIREMENT" TO A RETIREMENT HOME... IT SHOULD IF AT ALL POSSIBLE STAY WITH THE FAMILY- AND JUST NOT BE WORKING IN HARNESS.
I DID HAVE A THEORY GET A DANE EVERY 4 YEARS AND IF YOU DO HAVE 3, ONE WILL BE HAPPY TO SLEEP ON THE COUCH A LOT.
BAILEY'S LAST YEAR ( 13) WAS A SLEEPY ONE...

I AM HAPPY TO REPORT I GOT 5 PIECES OF FUGENS FUTON TOGETHER YESTERDAY... I STARTED BY BEING PLEASED WITH LINING UP THE HARDWARE-- 8 1.5" BOLTS 4 3/4 " BOLTS 12 WASHERS AND AN ALLEN WRENCH KIND OF THING--- AS I SAT THERE ALL PLEASED WITH MY PILE OF HARDWARE, I DECIDED I HAD NOT DISCINTERGRATED TO HARDWARE PILING YET... AND GOT TO PUTTING THE HEAVY STEEL MEMBERS OF THIS FUTON TOGETHER... I DID QUIT AT 5... AND RESTED...WITH 3 PIECES TO GO.....
IT WAS LOVELY AND COOL IN TEH ICE HOUWS...

NEXT PROBLEM....
FOR THE PAST 4 YEARS? WE HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO OPERATE THE OVEN AND MICROWAVE AT THE SAME TIME.... NOT A BIG THING IN THE TURN OF THE WHEEL, BUT 3 WEEKS AGO I FOUND A SHORT HEAVY EXTENSION CORD IN THE SHOP... AND TOUGHT IT WOULD BE PERFECT TO GET THAT MICORWAVE PLUGGED INTO A DIFFERENT CIRCUIT.. I GOT IT AS FAR AS MY DESK... WHERE IT SAT FOR A COUPLE WEEKS.
I FINALLY SAW SOME YOUNG INTERN SITTING ONTHE COUCH WITHIUT TOO MYCH TO DO-- INTERNS CAN BEND AND CRAWL AROUND IN SMALL SPACES... SO I WENT TO REACH FOR THE CORD... AND IT HAS ESCAPED TO THE WILDERNESS OF THE OVERFLOW ROOM.
WHEN YOU HAVE TO BUY ANOTHER BECAUSE YOU CAN NOT FIND THE FIRST.. YOU HAVE A SELF PERPETUATING PROBLEM
