annie’s car....
for For you newcomers----- Annie was also called awesome Annie she apparently had had a stroke or two in her youth and moved very slowly but got more done faster than anybody else here .. and she was always there to help out always cheerful and we all loved her dearly ..
one of her more momentis episodes was ---a group of volunteers were in the tea tent on a Sunday and my phone Rang -- The phone call was from a camera person in Finland ---saying that someone had fallen in the donkey stall and was not getting up .. of course we all ran and it was Annie who apparently had had some TiA or stroke sort of thing so we made her comfortable while we called 911.-- Since there was nothing more I could do with any I ran for the gate to get the electric gate open so the ambulance could come straight through ...they drove on down by the flagpole ... and parked it got out in a great rush at which point the volunteers in the barn came running out and said “she's down here in the barn “-------what the ambulance people had thought was Dolores who is our resident mannequin who often is minus the top half of her--- Dolores was half under the tractor so when they came in they assumed someone had gotten run over by the tractor .. however ran for the barn and got annie all comfortable and carried off ..
well she had driven here so her car was here --- that all happened a year or two ago in her car is still here and we have tried and tried figure out what to do about it .especially since this winter is coming and pushing snow around the parking lot can get a little dicey .. so we again have attempted to get it out of here I even tried calling kars for kids but they won't take it without the registration .. so linda again tried to contact And his brother in may be North Carolina to see whether we could get some sort of paperwork ..
I offered this car to a family of volunteers here couple boys teenagers I figured they could take it apart and learn about cars.. I am sure the rats have eaten all the wires and hoses that ever were ... but it was a reliable car for annie ...
In the meantime grandson Colby had a small car -- a standard shift small car --which he was using at the University of New Hampshire .. Janine began to worry .. even though it passed inspection and had four new tires she began to worry about him driving on route 95 between New Hampshire and Maine and Massachusetts --- so Colby has a “ new old car “ -- and they wouldn't give him enough trade in to make that worthwhile Janine figured we could do something else with it .. ok..... Back to the family of volunteers who are delighted at the prospect of having an operational vehicle ... so I made a deal with them they could have colbys car if they also figured out how to get annie's car out of here also even if it meant taking it apart and putting it in my dump trailer and I deliver the parts all through them ..so Linda again trying to get ahold of Annies brother who apparently does have paperwork for it .. and if he gets it to us then this family would have one car that hopefully ran worked and one car to practice on
and SDP is promised the help of all these kids--- I think 5 of them--- to come shovel when we have a snowstorm the clogs up our kennels .. this will be a good deal because these five kids are homeschooled ...(although everybody is right now )
I remember when Janine bought that for Colby -- she was adamant That he learned to drive a standard shift -- which I had insisted my children learn to do so they could hop on things like motorcycles that have clutch is and not have to worry about it ..
I was also appalled to have an ex marine working here who did not know how to jumpstart a car .. in my day that's how you started any car And children of any driving age could be seen along the highway with the hood up the wheels off somehow dealing with a less than perfect car .. it was a good learning experience .. nowadays everything is expected it has to work .. how dull ..
I put in this daily doggy the story of Tommy Nugent and his little green car and the collection of shoe strings he had across in front of him when he drove which is how he made the windshield wipers work .. this kind of thought is what contributed toward his becoming rather accomplished medical doctor ... there is much to be learned by studying what does not function correctly... we should be cultivating more people who can address mechanical imperfection. ----

Going back even further to my father who was born in 1900 talked of going out for a ride in one of these newfangled automobiles with three or four extra tires tied on to the back .. and even with extra tires ...in an emergency they would just stuff them with hay...
Going back even further on his education I have a photo of my father with two other siblings in a pony cart .. and that's how they got to school where my Gran father had built a little shack where the pony stayed until they harnessed him up to drive home again .. and now we have school buses who must pick up each child at the end of their driveway unless the parents can take them to a corner and wait with him till the bus comes my how we've made progress ..
and I am sitting at a desk that he made in high school wood shop .... This thing is solid and weighs a ton .. Now kids make birdhouses in wood shop if they even have woodshop at all .
long live mike rowe..... Topsfield has a handyman who charges $85 per hour. And he is busy !!
To further swipe at education -- I now notice more and more colleges are advertising on television----- tremendous bargains to start your education at their place with all kinds of scholarships ... I don't wanna be 100% negative but it does seem they're begging for students to become involved at which time they will have to take out a loan to finish their education .. and spend the next 20 years paying it off ..
There was a day ? last year? When on a Friday “THEY” LITERALLY CLOSED many small colleges and left kids mid course with no course credits to be transferred.. college became a business.
