Consider the following subtraction problem, which I will put up here: 342 -173
Now remember how we used to do that. three from two is nine; carry the one, and
if you're under 35 or went to a private school you say seven from three is six,
but if you're over 35 and went to a public school you say eight from four is
six; carry the one so we have 169, but in the new approach, as you know, the
important thing is to understand what you're doing rather than to get the right
answer. Here's how they do it now.
You can't take three from two,
Two is less than three,
So you look at the four in the tens place.
Now that's really four tens,
So you make it three tens,
Regroup, and you change a ten to ten ones,
And you add them to the two and get twelve,
And you take away three, that's nine.
Is that clear?

FINN
The school that held the competition had many things going on that day so the halls were very busy. At one point Eve and Finn (along with a few cheerleaders from Erin’s squad) got separated from me and there were many cheerleaders between me and them. I knew approximately where they were and that they were with someone so was sure they would get to the right place BUT my eyes were not physically on her! I just realized this morning that in the past that would have sent me in to total panic mode! That is a scenario she could have very easily been knocked over and broken a bone or 2! She just isn’t easily seen and she is not stable enough to stay on her feet alone if bumped. BUT she had Finn and I didn’t panic at all. How can anyone miss Finn? And she has him to hold onto if bumped! What amazing freedom, independence, stability and safety the Service Dog Project and Finn has given to Eve but also to ME!!
These 2 are always reminding me of my gratitude to the Service Dog Project! What an amazing gift!

SEAGRAM
LATELY, WE HAVE BEEN WORKING ON OUR FINAL FALL GARDENING TASKS TOGETHER. SHE DELIGHTS IN THE SUNLIGHT ON THE CRISP FALL DAYS AND ROMPS IN THE LEAVES WHILE I DO THE TASK AT HAND.
WELL, ONE DAY I WAS PLANTING A FEW FALL BULBS. SHE AIDED ME TO MY LITTLE GARDENING STOOL (IN VEST). AS USUAL, I THEN REMOVED HER VEST AND LET HER “GO FREE.” ALSO AS USUAL, SHE CAME BACK TO CHECK ON ME A FEW TIMES AND I REASSURED HER THAT I WAS OK, SO SHE HAPPILY TROTTED OFF AGAIN. THEN I SLIPPED OFF MY GARDEN STOOL, FALLING BACKWARD SO THAT I WAS LYING FLAT ON MY BACK. I INSTINCTIVELY CRIED OUT AS I FELL, BECAUSE OF THE SURPRISE. FORTUNATELY, THE STOOL IS LOW TO THE GROUND, SO I DIDN'T FALL FAR AND WAS NOT HURT. ANYWAY, SEAGRAM IMMEDIATELY CAME BACK TO ME WHEN SHE HEARD THIS. SHE LOOKED ME OVER QUICKLY AND GAVE ME A COUPLE KISSES, WHICH IS VERY RARE, TO REASSURE ME. THEN SHE POSITIONED HERSELF TO HELP ME UP OFF THE GROUND WITHOUT ANY INSTRUCTION — ALL OF THIS WHILE SHE WAS OUT OF VEST. I GRASPED HER HARNESS AND WAS SOON UPRIGHT AGAIN.
WE ARE A TEAM, AND IT DOESN'T MATTER WHETHER OR NOT SHE IS FORMALLY “DRESSED” IN HER VEST — SINCE SHE IS ALWAYS READY TO HELP ME. SOMETIMES THE LITTLE THINGS REALLY ARE THE BIG THINGS. I AM SO GRATEFUL THAT SHE IS ALWAYS THERE TO WATCH OVER ME AND HELP ME. THIS HAS GIVEN ME THE FREEDOM TO RETURN TO SOME OF THE ACTIVITIES THAT I LOVE, WITH MORE CONFIDENCE. AND MY HUSBAND IS ALSO SO GRATEFUL, SINCE HE WORRIES ABOUT ME FAR LESS WITH SEAGRAM AT MY SIDE. THIS IS JUST ANOTHER EXAMPLE AS TO HOW SHE IS MY SUPER SEAGRAM. THANK YOU FOR THIS WONDERFUL GIFT.
