i wonder------ yesterday in what someone called a microburst ( don't you love an education... it used to be a "strong wind")-- so this microburst blew over the blue and red tent-- upside down and bent... that tent and i have been thru alot- over the years....it once covered "the bed with danes..." at chowderfest, harborfest, riverfest etc... in boston which helped pay my daughters college tuition....
it lately spent the summer covering the only really grassy bit in the puppy hill area .... ( over the septic leach field)
----now it was upside down an d bent ... definitely .. tired...
it was a sorry sight...and being rightside up but bent myself, i had to rely on tanner and bud to put it back together...all i couold do was sit in the golf cart and make suggestions-- all the while saying the poem "somebody said that it couldn't be done"...and poor tanner was my victim.
there is a lesson here for students of the kind not taught in school.... .
1. it is useless the way it is legs ponting skyward - ? it is a mess.. we can't save it...throw it away???
lets take it apart-- it had a self tapping screw at each junction... tanner did that- put screws in his pocket.
2. the pile of pipes and cross pieces was a jumbled mess. sure looked like trash.. ? in the dumpster???
i am sitting .. tanner is lugging.. "nice pipe... lets save the pieces"
3. a few had definite bends that were not planned. ? they are ruined we can't straighten them
"tanner... find a place on the tractor to stick the end and unbend it" a lesson in fulcrums and levers..
and the fact that perfectly straight is a figment of someone's imagination.
4. "now put it back together.".." i can't... i don't know how".... boy don't i hate the can't 's
5. "lets go with i haven't figured out how to do that ....yet.. why not sort them into like pieces"-
6. " it is not a jumbled mess of pipe....note there are 3 of each size/type --- organize your data "
and he did it ! we have our tent back in functionable condition once again...
poor tanner... i was not done.... he was ready to stop thinking about it when i came up with "how many screws are left in your pocket" and it was a few minutes before he saw that the number of screws in his pocket was related to the success of the job ... not enough screws would mean hole in pocket and possibley screws in tires or dogs feet... too many left would be he skipped a junction...
that type education is critical in 99% of future jobs - and i don't see how it can be taught in school-- which is why i think seriously about mike rowe and his trade school approach to advanced education... there is a hands on approach to future jobs which is missing big time... it was fun to watch tanner figure out the logic of screws in his pocket..... my question to me was.... if i was faced with the pile of pipe - not having seen it was a tent to begin with,-- would i have seen the fact that there were sets of 3 like objects- and been able to construct the tent.??.. i am not sure i would have-- maybe given time......
this explains why i collect all teh junk/ hardware i have all over the place... it is stuff i have not figured out it's purpose yet.
and that can be it's own problem...
****
meanwhile i am offering tanner $50 TO MEMORIZE THE poem by edgar guest
somebody said that it couldn't be done
but he with a chuckle replied
that maybe it couldn't but he would be one
who wouldn't say so til he tried..
it goes on... and on.... worth $50..

i am not convinced everyone needs a college degree-- but they need something to cause them to have to think.
i remember.....back when my "laptop' computer was the size of a small car, a guy came to fix teh ibm printer who's education was just that he had taken an old printer apart while he worked at a gas station, and somehow ibm found that out and he was one of the few who could deal with the logic of those massive printers ----his name was joe---...he was impressive-- and a basically remained a gas station attendent with tie and jacket--- a great salary and no grease under his fingernails. my business was dependent on his ability to fix printers.

i think it is showdown day at the building inspectors office.. i am told teh plumber and electrician will be here today and that "someone " will pick up the permits at the town hall at 7am... i am ready... but not holding my breath.

yesterday at sunday stew a woman was here who;s husband had been town manager..-- probably durnig my arena construction days.. somethign about my speaking to the daughters of something catholic....
i reminded them to remind me the day before, the day of, and the n come pick me up.... and i would do it...

seagram report--- in part...
My silly Dad is going to the golf course this afternoon. Not sure why hitting a ball around is fun for him. I'm so much happier snuggling with Mom while she helps me write this!! And if I were at the golf course, I would run some zoomies, then find a shady spot to dig a nice hole!! Maybe I could do part-time work there as a groundskeeper? I have skills...you CPs can vouch for me if I need a reference, right? But I think that right now I'll just focus on mastering how to be a Service Dog.
