WELL I GOT A COUPLE RESPONSES

FROM LAUREN--- (TEENAGER-- OFTEN REFERRED TO AS NEW YORKER)

Hello Carlene,

Boris is a pro at school! He lays down and sleeps through almost every class and my classmates forget he is there! In addition, we have had eight fire drills since the start of school and he is an expert at that as well! He's excited to put his saddle bags on each morning! His schedule at school is so rigid that he knows exactly where we are going and when. It is so funny to watch him try to turn for the exit at the end of the day! School is going amazingly well with him and I haven't fallen yet (knock on wood!) Now if only he could whisper the answers to that History test in my ear! haha!

At home, he is a playful puppy that loves to prance around the yard like a cheetah on the loose! He is funny when he sits on the sofa (yes sits) with only his butt! He just sits with his back legs off the ground, watching TV with the family! When he's not sitting, he's watching the fish in our 55 gallon fish tank, bumping his snout against the glass every time a little fish passes by. Why is he so cute?!

Last night, my family and I went out to a really fine dining restaurant with Boris and he couldn't have been better! I mean this place was so tiny and the tables were one on top of the other, but somehow we managed to comfortably wedge Boris in between my mother and I, out of the way of the other diners. The carpet happened to be black, so he blended right in and many people didn't even notice him until his head popped up occasionally! The only close call was when we were being seated and there was a tray of food about his height! I truly thought that steak was going to disappear into his mouth, but miraculously he didn't touch it, though I knew it was tempting for him!

I think the happiest moment for me, however, was the day I decided to go walk around in the yard. I hadn't physically been able to get around the uneven terrain of our property. I decided to go outside with the assistance of Boris and I felt safe with him. I wasn't afraid anymore. I just kept walking and walking, even up and down some small hills which I would have never attempted before. I eventually sat down on my rarely used tire swing which I love so much. Boris laid down a few feet away while I spun around, letting the sun beat down on my face and the breeze in my hair. It had been so long since I was brave enough to go outside alone and that moment on the swing reminded me of how beautiful Boris has made my life. The autumn leaves were all so bright and colorful that day and I just absorbed their radiance with Boris right beside me in the grass. I couldn't stop smiling, thinking of all the things I would no longer be afraid to do thanks to this amazing dog. I am no longer fearful. This epiphany also reminded me of how grateful I am to everyone at the Service Dog Project. At first glance, most people think he's just a service dog, but they don't realize how much more he does for me! He's not my service dog...he is my liberator!

Wholehearted Gratitude,
Boris and Lauren

Hi Ladies,

I just wanted to let you both know how well Logan is doing Dan, Megan, and I all went to a Nine Inch Nails concert this past Friday (this is something that Dan does with the kids and/or I at least 4x per year) and I could not be happier with the results. Dan and I were a little worried, which is why we had Megan join. We worried for nothing as Logan was beyond perfect, once he was situated on his yoga mat and fluffies he remained in his down stay the entire concert. Logan also enjoyed the hotel room immensely (he loved the beds!!) We got the opportunity to learn that big noisy ambulances and/or garbage trucks are not a reason to break form nor do they need to be watched just in case??? This was comical to watch and such a moment of pride when he "got it". I still have a hard time believing he is only 7 months old but I totally contribute it to the fact that his bond with Dan is so strong he would literally walk through fire to get to him. Dan, the kids and I also fly about 4x per year so that will be Logan’s next BIG adventure (after the holidays of course!!!) Dan has been having a lot of test done lately but we plan to be back up this week on our Tuesday schedule we miss you all and can't thank everyone enough for all the great work you do.

Hi Carlene!
Harry and I wanted to say hi and tell you about our weekend. We went to a rather large fall street festival and Harry did great! We were greeted by a great dane rescue who had 100 questions so we told them all about Sdp! They warned us that the police were asking other people for id's for their "service dogs". We walked by probably 30 and no one even mentioned anything. It goes to show a well and under control working dog shows that they are meant to be there! With all the people and noise and action I rather expected that he would have some nervous moments but alas he did great and stood by me just like he owned the place! Per recommendation of caspers mom  we got mushers secret a balm for the pads of Harrys feet and he is now crashes out on the bed enjoying his freshly massages feet :-) We are terribly home sick for Sdp and can't wait to get back soon! We started a new job so that is occupying a lot of time but I guess that is life.  Great moments for us are when people who are in the building for 30 min will leave and catch a glimpse and say on my I did not even notice him! He is a great boy and lays on his blanket and chews on his toys. We miss you all and hope the fall is going well on the farm!  See you soon!

WONDERFUL-- NOW IF WE CAN JUST KEEP IT GOING I WON'T BE HARD PRESSED TO ENTERTZAIN YOU'ALL EVERY MORNING.-  I AM SURE THEY MEAN TO WRITE-- BUT JUST DON'T GET ROUND TO IT...

SEE... I HAVE A PHD IN MURPHY'S LAW-- MY THESES WAS ON "WHAT CAN GO WRONG OFTEN DOES"

WE HAVE ALL THESE DOGS OUT WORKING-- MAYBE 50 OR SO OF THEM-- AND PEOPLE OFTEN CONTACT US IF THERE IS A PROBLEM-

SO IT IS WONDERFUL  TO HAVE SOME STORIES ABOUT WHEN THINGS GO RIGHT  JUST TO BLANCE
*************
THE LAST PROBLEM I HEARD WAS  "SHE IS REFUSING TO GET IN THE CAR.."
MY IMMEDIATE REACTION WAS  "HOW DO YOU DRIVE?" -- QUICK STARTS AND STOPS, SWINGING AROUND CORNERS TOO FAST... THINGS LIKE THATIS USUALLY THE CAUSE... PUT A FULL GLASS OF WATER ON THE DASHBOARD AND IF YOU SPILL IT, YOU ARE NOT DRIVING CORRECTLY AS FAR AS THE DOG IS CONCERNED.

I HAVE OFTEN SAID YOU SHOULD ONLY DO  ONE THING AT A TIME  GAS--- BRAKE-- STEERING-- TO STEER WHILE PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL MAKES FOR A LURCHING SWINGING MOMENT IN THE DOG'S AREA.
AND FILL THE AREA BEHIND THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER WITH BOUND STACKS OF NEWSPAPERS- AND COVER WITH  FLUFFY-- IF YOU HAVE TO CARRY A PASSENGER- JUST THROW OUT THE NEWSPAPERS-- IN THE MEANTIME THE DOG IS MORE COMFORTABLE.

ND THEN THERE IS  DRIVING WITH 2 DOGS IN THE CAR..  YOU HAVE TO LOAD THE BOSSY ALPHA DOG LAST.. BECUSE NO TIMID DOG WILL READILY  JUMP TOWARD A DOMINANT ONE ... AS WHEN THEY JUMP INTO THE CAR.. IN DOG LANGUAGE THAT IS HOW YOU START A FIGHT...

I HAVE SEEN THAT HAPPEN SOOOO MANY TIMES-- AND  I GET A KICK OUT OF THE REASONS PEOPLE GIVE FOR THAT

IT USED TO HAPPEN ALL THE TIME WHEN I LOADED MY 8 DRIVING DONKEYS INTO THE FRONT DOOR OF THE TRAILER--  THERE WS A SPECIFIC ORDER- ND THEY WOULD LEAP IN JUST AS NICE AS CAN BE... IF SOMEONE GOT IT WRONG AND THEY
COULD BE STUCK  FOR A WHILE.
