 aug 8 2023

A Great Dane with an upset stomach and loose stool is a  monumental problem to deal with as soon as possible... and when I stopped in to visit my two friends at ira Toyota I heard that Mariah had indeed the kind oh bowel movement that you could hear... projectile.... I think it's called ---at any rate I suggested it might be Giardia---very common in this area because of the Canadian geese.. at which point Nick said that their development is loaded with Canadian geese.. so it would be a case for flagyl... however With the word projectile involved they decided to take her to see someone.. and get a prescription...
it was news to me to hear that there's now  a vet in a box---like there is a doc in a box---I had not heard of this before but it is a fact and they went to one in Burlington---

We went to PetMedic Urgent Care in Burlington and they just loved her.  Always a complement on how sweet and beautiful she is.  Isn't it funny how all these urgent care clinics for people started popping up and now they seem to be just as popular for pets?  Maybe it's helping to solve the problem with a shortage of vets and everywhere seems so busy that they're not taking new animals and can never book an appointment.

Boy ain't that the truth..  as I sat there describing to Nick that his dog probably needed some flagyl I honestly didn't know where to go or where to send him... if you call for an appointment it's like the people doctors you've got an appointment next November 29th that's an awful lot of projectile between now and then so I have to look into this pat mEDic urgent care bit--It sounds like one more "define a problem and solve it"....

Ropes. ---now for my moving ----that's what's going to happen today--- hopefully ---next to my clothing my next most sizable moving effort will be my ropes--  The most popular zipper pull monkey fists take up the least room with the small spool of #60 twine... from there we go to the spools of 5/8. and 3/4. Cotton Which get made into leashes and horse lead ropes and.......

now this is really a marketing pitch....

when I was doing animals in the movies and things I had to have some way of handling of great variety of animals and I devised a very handy rope and a ring... ( which I'm sure somehow is related to my year in Scotland .. there is a good book by Lillian Beckwith about a rope and a ring...)  at any rate. this universal animal handling device which I rigged up... is a 10 foot rope with a 2  inch ring spliced onto one end and the normal snap hook spliced on the other end.. that covers a multitude of sins because the ring end can be made into a dog collar and then into the Figure 8 which will hold a cat or pig.. or it could be an impromptu horse halter. which will work on cows and lamas..  Of all sizes-----and also be used in emergency  to tie a gate shut------    I gave one to Brian(DVM)  long ago--as an emergency halter that would fit everybody and he uses it so much that he eventually wore one out... so I took him a replacement..   It certainly is an ideal piece of equipment for anyone who might have to try and control a loose animal or whatever... probably the police in New York City would not need one but the police in Hamilton MA often have to deal with loose horses... or livestock in general.. I call it an animal handle... and I know that. Both here and At Meredith farm handling all these different horses ----These rope and a ring handle s are basically the tool of choice-----.so if any of you have teh occasion to be casing loose goats or the odd horse or two,or want to gift one to your vet..... I do sell them  for $35 (includes postage)

Lillian Beckwith has several books---The Sea for Breakfast---and ---The Hills is Lonely--A very amusing picture of life on the islands off the coast of Scotland... Where anything practical will take precedent over Anything else. I like that.
