BEEN A TOUGH COUPLE OF DAYS-EVERYONE HAS BEEN FANTASTIC WITH STACY AND PIXIE SUPPORT- THAT WAS AN EXPENSIVE VET HOSPITAL, BUT A VERY GOOD ONE- WHEN SHE WENT THERE I QUICKLY CHECKED TEH TRAINIGN OF THE PRINCIPAL DOCTORS- AND TEHY WERE GRADUATES OFWELL KNOWN SCHOOLS-- REMEMBER VET SCHOOLS ARE WONDERFUL FOR CATS AND DOGS, BUT THE MILK IN OUR COFFEE OR SCRAMBLED EGGS ARE DEPENDENT ON VETERINARIANS TOO.and those schools are more inclined to be in agricultural states ...
GOLDIE (Ghost Of the Lefthand Drawer) was on board--- she orgainzed to have george vacationing abot 10 miles away- so he could talk to their vets( with stacy approvaop)- and impress on them this was a SD... super dog. that extra umph would mean that pixie got an extra fluffy. i am sure it made a difference..
SHE HAS A PROBLEM- TEH CAUSE AS YET UNDETERMINED- AND MAY ALWYAS BE-- BUT TEH "FIX" IS APPARENTLY KNOWN... i wish i knew how ethyl was doing.......pixie has gone home wiht stacy-- will stay in florida until stabalized,
TEH ONLY OTHER DOG I KNOW OF IS JULIA'S DOG WHO HAD A CLOTTING DISORDER JUST BEFORE WE WERE GOING TO DONATE HER- AND WE CONSIDERED NOT PUTTING HER OUT AS A SERVICE DOG FOR THAT REASON, BUT GEORGE- WHO IS OUR RESIDENT PESSIMIST- SUGGESTED IT COULD BECOME CONTROLLABLE -SO WE TOOK THE CHANC AND THE DOG HAS WORKED WONDERES FOR julia... APPARENTLY........
I WISH I COULD GIVE YOU DETAILS OF JULIA AND ETHYL, BUT APPARENTLY JULIE DOES FACEBOOK AND DOES NOT SEND ME EMAILS--
SOMEHOW ....... I FIGURE.... IF YOU GET A DOG FROM SDP AND ALL THESE CAMERA PEOPLE HAVE DONATED TEH $20,000 IT TOOK TO RAISE AND TRAIN YOUR DOG, I REAlly appreciate those who send me an email once a month - progress notes.. so i can pass along tidbits of information... in julia's case teh various reports would have been helpful to stacy... maybe she just needs reminding..... julia.....????
our other disaster of teh day 6:20am PL really went into labor and by 7:00 we had a cute foal-- we asked bryan to come do an internal- ND TEHRE WAS NO SECOND FOAL and all looked good-- for a while-- but baby did not nurse-- one of the comppolicatons was eithere neurological ... or that huge belly was deflecting the foal's aim-- and at 2 hours she was still gtrying to nurse of PL's jugglar vein.-- so we ( Janine) milked and syringed colostrium into teh foal-- which we did twice-- and noticed a slight, but steady drip of teh umbilical cord...-- we called bryan-- bleeding is bad... doesnt matter what you feed them if tehy are bleeding- so he arrived promptly and withteh help of bud and tom got it stitched up-- we progressed to feeding-- janine had arrived by tehm and is a very proficient donkey milker... bryan got anotehr 60 cc's intot he baby.. who was " stressed but standing.. and her rear end was wet from having all teh blood washed off her underside.... tehr is a heat lamp... but....
after much discussion abotu what to do.. alot of which was heard on the donkey cam mic, all our options were not great...tufts vet school 2-3 hours away... a neonatal vet tech an 1.5 hurs away in maine- janine's houes , stay where they were and have someone come in every 2 hours... or move them to the warmer ICU building where whoever was going to feed every 2 hous could be comfortable watching in the meantime on FF ( fugan's futon sent us long ago.)
so we filled one kennel 5' x 10' with straw/hay/water and moved the two... they looked very comfortable tehre- janine has her own "support group" and we sent down food/ snaciks/ janoine was to come back 8 to 11 when another "horse person" was due to come 11 to 7-- at which time i am on til we figure out somethign else... bryan is due back to do a blood test to see if she got enough colostrum to liven antibodies... this morning.
now teh rest of teh story is....... janine has to work for a living--- and has a job where she is supposed to think on her feet....-- like at a meeting today-- i begin to panic that too many wierd phone calls and late nights milking donkeys will threaten her job in which case she can not do any donkey any good. and i have so many age related limitations yesterday was the first time i since i stopped eating chocolate baRS, THAT I TOOK ONE OF THOSE PILLS FOR TAchycardia..
what needs to be said---everybody means well-- we need to have all you pursuade "teh few" to stop the facebook negative agitation comments, emails and phone calls- i am going to have to block a few who.... mean well but have no idea--- and janine had far too many phonecalls at work from facebook people with ridiculous ideas- or sometimes perfectly good observations about things we have no ability to alter... standing mother on a pile of pallets was not something that would work... calling saying "she is just lying there bleeding to death... was #1 not true megan and i had tied off the cord with mint flavored dental floss--- and #2 what on earth were we supposed to do about it if it was true..?
htese cameras are supposed to be an education -- and sometimes you may not find that education "fun" ...
please be assured this is not janine's or my first rodeo... and with teh help of our support staff.. our solutions to problems usually come from those people standing around in the situation.. because you can not... on camera.. know all the details
like last night- having squared away dogs, donkeys etc someone called told me the donkey door was open and holliday might get out... welllll maybe she will -- but it is not raining/muddy out there at teh momment-- other gates are shut and if she has a baby out on the hill... so be it... we are all stretched thin at the moment.. some things have priority over others.
