tanner got the roof on the donkey "quarantine " building -- working on the building has been an educational experience for all of us.. and yesterday tanner learned the physics of "evaporation is a cooling process" as it rained hard enough to get him drenched and cold enough so he had to quit for a few minutes to find a dry shirt... at the age of 13 he has become an expert on other important things like gravity... triangles... mass in motion... fluid management... and most important if another teen comes here to do community service for doing something stupid , their stupidity often shows because they don't understand basic things like gravity...
we had a kid here who needed to put in 20 hours for doing "something stupid" -- as opposed to a national honor society requirement ---- i must admit when that is the case, they don't get the fun jobs like puppy patting or even water bucket filling.. so i gave him teh job of putting a bunch of trash in the old dump trailer. the result would be comical if we didn't have to take out most of it because there is no way it couold be tied down for travel.. i had told him to put it in the trailer.. and he did.... it was my fault that i didn't tell him what was to happen next.. like travel over the roads...
He also smoked-- giving me the opportunity to think of the similarity between trash trailer packing and smoking-- just doing something withoiut thinking could have disasterous results... he also came here with girlfriend-- who is a nice kid-- and i wanted to suggest to her that maybe there must be other less complicated males around... my experience in the animal breeding business is sometimes painfully obvious...

there are so many screwy details about that "shed" that there could be something officially written about "construction - experimental style..."
it would be a big lesson in high school physics and geometry- by a bunch of people just learning which end the hammer to pound with.
firstly------ don't believe everything you read.... why on earth would youj think that a 2 x 4 measures 2 inches x 4 inches? when it is actually 1.5 x 3.5 because the "finished " lumber looses 1/4 inch on each side in the "smoothing " process of planing--
it gets worse... beccause one would think if you nailed a 2 x 4 to a 2 x 4, you would get a square 4 x 4 when in fcrt if you nail the 2, you get a 3" x 3.5 inch-- and if you need it square, you need a 1/2 inch piece of plywood between the 2... ( and technically teh 1/2 inch plywood is not longer 1/2 inch, but 15/32 by home depot measurement.--)
and so it goes.....
lastly being--- howard---- a guy who came out of the blue and was capable of putting on the corrugated roofing -- his qualifications ? .. he worked for ringling brothers-- but in the food department???? at any rate he -- and tanner figured it out-- which wasn't easy due to the fact that the walls were not absolutely paralell-- due to the fact that we did not have any string- or a line level the day that a bunch of nurses dug all the holes and put the supporting posts in them... they were nearly paralell...
"nearly"--- gets complicated when it comes to building roofs.. thankfully howard was up to the task....

i still need a bull dozer to deal with water running down hill--- there is no way it will run up hill unless you alter the shape of the hill...

ingrid sent me this
There is what appears to be wonderful programming on PBS Friday evenings the next 2 months (Broadway shows). If you'd like, I can send a reminder with specific show info for each one...Friday mornings? I can include a channel reminder if that would help. It looks like PBS may be channel 2 in Ipswich, but that may be different based on your provider (Verizon?) and whether you view in HD or not.
got to look into that hopefully she will remind me....
