there is a very fine line between a pickey old lady and a wealth of knowledge.
to all of you watching yesterdays mailcall.... and are very alert to disasters... yes... the yellow rope deserves better attention---- in an effort to get the hay on the conveyer quickly for the camera-----the yellow tie down rope was on the ground ... very close to everyone's feet..-- we did finally get it under the trailer, but that is the kind of thing from which disasters are made.
however----- the second mail call was another huge success--- mainly because ... it was real life happenings--the 90 bales of had to get in the barn.. and it was a good opportunity for the camera people to get a feel for other things going on around a normal farm....
did i say normal??? a normal farm is extremely well organized- and very rigid in expectations.... believe me... there are times when that rigid adherence to scheduled performances is mandatory..... however ... there are many working parts if CAF ( crazy acres farm) that are geared to a more relaxing, welcoming atmosphere-- for people to enjoy--- one of the big things is that the loose animals were donkeys and goats.... both of which have an historic good nature-- you-- or certainly "I" would never on purpose let a bunch of horses loose like that-- even if there is an official law that says if you are around horses you are on your own. the huge difference is a frightened horse will bolt and run-- a frightened donkey stands still... a donkey being silly may run around but that is not in any way like a frightened horse.
These are the donkeys we need to get better leash trained before September.. so they can be in the “pack burro race” which is not a race.... but a walking wondering of person and donkey—usually pretty funny for both. We /janine’s ERN has a few more over at the other farm which will come here – hopefully volunteers will try and get them going “once around our pond”. Perfect job for veterans who would like fresh air with a purpose. Volunteers with the donkeys must have sense of humor.
