CRABS--HEY AFTER WRITING THIS FOR SO LONG, I AM GETTING SHORT OGF TOPICS---- AT MIDNIGHT I HAD OCASSION TO THINK OF HOURLY WAGES... WHICH MADE ME REMEMBER MY MOST PROFITABLE HOURly AS ANIMAL EPISODES-- PROVIDING ANIMALS FOR MOVIES AND COMEERCIALS..
A MOVIE ( I DUNNO WHICH ) NEEDED CRABS SO THAT TEH BIG ACTOR ( ALSO FORGOTTEN) COULD WALK DOWN TEH BEACH WITHA STRING BAG OF CRABS.. I AM NOT A MOVIE GOER--SO I NEVER KNEW WHO I WAS WORKING WITH...
I JUST NEEDED A BAG OF CRABS.
I KONW YOU ALL HAVE THIS GLAMOUOUS VERSION OF TEH MOVIES-- SO LET ME WRECK THAT RIGHT AWAY.-
the call came on monday---- 4:00 am thursday --A BAG OF CRABS---at a local beach.
THEY DID NOT WANT THE MORE ACCESSAble lobsters which would have been simple to get...i began asking around and was told teher was a group of lobstermen under the salem beverly bridge that kept a crate of crabs that got into the lobster pots by mistake.-- so i went-- one lone female going into a group of men asking if they had crabs was not the easiest thing i ever did.. however after tehy settile d down and found the projedt, they were most happy to cooperate-- and take tehe money i offered... i began to live with this big plastic tub of crabs-- like we now carry laundry in.... when you know alot about something, you know teh shortcduts you can take....i knew nothing about crabs- lobsters were kept in supermarkets in a bubbling tank was total sum of my knowledge- i had no bubbler( which i eventuaslly had to buy for teh fish in "blown away") - so i had to drive to the ocean twice a day to refreswh my ocean water in my big tub of crabs. - so it was up early mornign and run for seawater-- anywhere.. things like lowering a bucket off a bridge at one point made police nervous... they eventually relaxed because who could make up such a story?
-thursday 4am- i was there with my bucket-- also with umbrella snd all sorts of stuff-- becasue on a beach the tide goes in and out at a significant rate and i d could not just leave my crabs un attended- also you never knew when thery were going to call crabs!! and i was to be ready-- they were paying me- i charged $50 per hour - i spent teh next week 4am to sundown shuffling crabs into the incoming or receding tide for that magic moment when i could hand my crabs to the big guy-- why do movies cost so much?? i was on teh clock 16 hours a day at $50/hour keeping my precious crabs alive- when it was over, i dumped teh crabs off the small bridge in essex and wished them well.
it was not that i had any special tallent for this movie work-- but i was the only one in new engalnd to even attempt this nonsense.
i sang that song "seven and a half cents" the whole week-- because the whole hourly bit .. is not what someoen will pay you per hour-- but how many hours in a row would they pay you that??
fortunately for animal episodes, i had an "almost real" -- flexable job with a magazine.
that crab job was my most profitable week..
