September 24, 2012

writing this thing is getting more difficult as it is now posted on our web to be read by people who do not know me/us-- at least yet--

they have not heard my tiraide about how you can not peal a boiled egg if it is not 3 weeks old and are not used to the fact that there are frozen dead rats in the guest house freezer.

for people who have asked to be put on the daily doggie list, i try and send them an introduction which i will cut and paste at the bottom of this DD

that leaves me explaining how the rats got in the freezer ---
****************
it is a bit of a story---
if you have not thought about it... we use a lot of food.- and this is basically a farm.
we had a food storage room---- IN THE LAUNDRY BUILDING... so if we were fortunate enough to have someone donate a pallet of dog food--- we could handle it.

last fall - we were doing fine til mother nature saw fit to donate a nice young newlywed couple of healthy rats--- who were very prolific. they then invited some of their friends to join them in this bonanza of stored dog food buffet......- to the point that the bottom bag of a stack was empty-

we had to change our system and moved the food storage to an ambulance which was once our main transportation vehicle ( don't knock it-- i could find it in the parking lot at the mall)- so we loaded up the food-- and weekly would move the ambu-- - hopefully to keep the rats from finding it.

looking for new rodent apartments, they moved into the house-
giselle was the first rat tenant... and we could deal with one--- but when one of giselle's friends ran out of the file cabinet and across my lap- i realized we needed to send an eviction notice

great danes consider rat chasing beneath them-- they were   bred for wild boar -- they just watched these silly things

so we called in a specialist.. a jack russell named kelly from a rescue outfit in north carolina.
kelly was truly a specialist--the size of 1/2  a great dane  head.... she promptly terrified all the danes----, bit all the volunteers-- and caught rats.
these rats were very fat and healthy-- no garbage eating for them !!- getting the trophy rat from kelly was tricky--- but she was anxious for the next chase- so we bagged them -- froze them- and started
the frozen rodent delivery company..... delivering the fresh frozen critters to george--- our veternarian-- who rehabs owls and hawks -- he was delighted-- knowing we have no poisons on the property they were just what he needed.

and to take advantage of every possibility... george preferred that we did not waltz into his waiting room with a bag of dead rats--  we use the back door..    so now if we have a sick dog-- we use the back door.. or better yet .. get george to come out the back door to our van without having to go into his hospital..

so that is why the dead rats in the freezer

i said it was a long story.

p.s.  kell;y is now with a jack russel family and we borrow her back if needed on a daily basis...

yesterday----
the santa dress rehersal needs some work--
we need to work the dogs  more and  better.  most notably-- when you  are dealing with a dog who is balanced on something-- you must not push them sideways to try and balance them  you should not even touch them----- that makes matters worse and  they will really push sideways and knock  another dog off the ramp.- there are two dogs who may not be recoverable--- so we may have santa's hitch of 6 dogs and 2 photoshopped heads...

also they need collars to hold the harness forward-- having a harness slide off the dogs rear - tangling inhei feet was not conducive to standing still

by far the best dog was lulu--  who was thrilled to run up the ramp and pose for beef----- whether we needed her to or not...
we were using all black dogs--- bailey stood in the rear thinking "idiots i know what is needed."

santa is a great  santa--  all natural white hair and beard with jolly belly---  his car license is    ST NICK--  i wonder what explore thought of santa with the pups--- we got some good still shots...
***************
chaos was thrilled to have earlene  here cutting beef--- and paul- with h is broken arm took a nap with her in the sun -- she is devoted to them in spite of the fact that she lives here because they can not take her  where they live..... she is getting round...  we will place bets as to how many--

and   here we go  -- for the newcomers-- that is how many  nursing...  sometimes........

chaos is now living  in the house  --- in prep for whelping...  not that she needs it-- she has lived in the house before with the  last litter... she now gets the priority sofas...
*****
food wise  we had a lovely time--- but in respect for our general health-- people should be bringing more salad  or casserole  type stuff..   we had desert overload--- not that i minded... but......  sugar overload  big time.
*****
today schedule--

no polly and bob-- they are  away..

i will do the chaos waltz  in front of the camera after megan feeds the pups  - i am told their breakfast takes 18 seconds.

and i will go and mark th e  new deagle house for electrical install-- all the elect will be on one side  so we could go ahead and  insulate the far 6' x 30' which is where the kennel beds will go.

there will be a 12 x 12   "reading room"
why not. !

ginney the jenny from virginia is a new- spotted smaller donkey of unknown origin and temperament. ( rescued from the kill pens) seems agreeable but worried..
