LESSON #975 IN DOG MANAGEMENT FROM SERENA
flopper/ben/guinness had that anaplasmosis tick carried
disease and started having STRANGE nose bleeds i took him to the vet , they
had him on some major meds and he was fine after that, alive and happy for
another 2 years!
i was lucky that it presented first with nose
bleeds.
I ALMOST HAD THE PROBLEM WITH PURPLE - NOT DUE TO TICKS BUT SINCE SHE
WAS 10+ AND GETTTING ARTHRITIC.. I PUT HER ON ASPRIN-- WITHOUT GEORGE'S
ADVICE--- AND I NOTICED PINK DROOL AS SHE CHEWED A PIECE OF PVC PIPE-- IT WAS A
TINY LACERATION-- BUT IT WOULD NOT QUIT.. GEORGE HAD TO BAIL ME OUT... PURPLE
WAS MY "BAILEY" --- TRAINED TO DO NOTHING AND COULD DO MOST
ANYTHING.

AND THEN FROM PINK'S JOB---
Carlene,
Serious question about Pink - how does she know how to stop me from falling? And how does she know how to do it in exactly the right way? Last week while we were still in the hospital she stopped a fall in a way that was remarkable and has left me scratching my head.
We were outside and I was walking down a very slight hill on a sidewalk when I lost my balance and started stumbling downhill. This is absolutely the worst type of fall for me as I am picking up speed before I actually fall. I have broken my elbow in this type of fall before. As I was stumbling I dropped Pink's leash and just had my left hand lightly on her harness. Every person with a balance disorder knows this feeling - you know you're going down you're just wondering how bad it's going to be.
But I did not go down and it is because of Pink. At this point a human would have tried to stop my fall by grabbing my arm and stopping my forward motion. This usually results in a wrenched arm as well as broken bones. Pink, leashless and pretty much on her own began to lean gently against my left side, supporting me, while she moved with me. This slowly slowed me down while her support helped me to regain my balance. As we reached the bottom of the hill I was upright and totally balanced!
Here is the other cool thing. Pink knew just what she had done and what a very good girl she was. She immediately began wagging her tail and looking up at me with that drunk with happiness look dogs get - tongue hanging out pupils dialated as she leaned against me. As I hugged and patted her with many good girls and thank yous I don't think I've ever been so grateful to anyone as I was to her in that moment.
So, how in the world did she do this? And I must pass on my thank yous and good girls to all of you!
