dog food is a religion to some-  perfectly well meaning people will suddenly believe some very convincing person ---
who has found the perfect food for dogs-- this person  often  has the distribution rights to some wierd combination of ingredients.- or just bouight stock in the company...  and just finished a course in how to    market "guilt and fear"

i have 1000's of stories about feeding dogs- here's a few
long ago-- before advertising took such hold- i stayed away from the advertyised and bought the "farmer 's friend"  type dog food.
50 pound bags-- tipped it into a wash tub in the door of the barn  free feed... the dogs ate it..
so did the  cats, chickens, rooster,  rats  and raccoons- and everyone was fine.-
except for the pig who tended to eat to much so we had to put it up on a table.

general health was the issue the exact shine on teh coat was not my main concern.
i had a dane or two then--  and one of my heathiest dogs-- a ridgeback dane cross--- perfect health for 15 years
'never even had his teeth cleaned - went 20 miles per day  following janine on  her pony.
that stuff had everything in it... corn wheAT CHICKEN  FEATHERS - LORD KNOWS...  BUT EVERYONE ATE IT.
I NEVER KEPT TRACK OF WHAT THEIR STOOLS WERE LIKE- THAT CAME LATER IN MY DOG EXPERIENCE...
IT WAS A VERY RESPECTABLE company - WHICH DID HAVE "  HIGHER END"  LABELS-
I FIGURED IF THEY WERE WILING TO PUT THIER NAME ON IT IT MUST BE RESPECTABLE..  SO  WE FED IT
***
then i became friendly with a dane breeder who sold a specific dog food made in  new york-
it was  a granuloar substance that smeiled like rotting fish to which she added a bushell of veggies which she boiled daily
i saw it happen-- she had  dozens of people convinved that their dogs would not get hip displasia if they fed only this ground up fish mixture.
and they believed her! to the point of b uying a puppy from her-- then moving to california- and
paying her not only a huge price for the food.. but the postage to ship 50 pounds to california was no small matter.
and if the pup got dysplasia she would ask what they fed the dog  when they ran out of her fish stuff.. and that would be the reason THEY GOT DYSPLASIA..
she had guilt and fear down pat--
it might be noted her sales pitch fell on my deaf ears.

meanwhile my dogs were eating teh farmers friendly food--- which was i am sure mixed with  THE BROWN RICE LOOKING rat poopies at the bottom..
and everyone was healthy.-- ok so i wormed them couple times a year...
we lived a little loose- so i wormed my kids and me every so oftern too.
*
POINT HERE BEING---
IF A PUPPY--- JUST FOR AN EXAMPLE---AT TEH AGE OF 3 WEEKS,
GETS A BROKEN TOE- FOR WHATEVER REASON...
THAT PUPPY WILL THEN NOT USE THAT LEG TEH SAME AS THE OTHER LEG--
AND THUS THERE WILL BE ENTIRELY DIFFERNT MUCSLE DEVELPOPEMENTT-
AND  IF BAD ENOUGH and the toe not set properly, , THE BONE GROWTH  WILL NOT BEHAVE NORMALLY-
DOWN TEH ROAD-- TEHRE IS NO AMMOUNT OF FEEDING THAT WILL CORRECT THAT PROBLEM.

LET ME PHRASE IT MORE UNDERSTANDABLY--- IF a change of diet would cure  any bone growth  problems
PLEASE GET THE DETAILS IMMEDIATELY TO CHILDRENS HOSPITAL SO THEY STOP TRYING TO FIX
MALFORMED BONES WITH SURGERY...

I CAN GIvE YOU A list of kids across the country who need
to be told about this fantasic new bone  treatment-
of a "big mac a day to keep the surgeon away."

makes about as much sense.
