when the bones in th e top of your feet hurt, you are sick--and i was yesterday.. between hot eyes and complaining joints, i spent most of the day lying around and never got to dig holes.

i did however clean my drawer --- the one where GOLDIE lives--(Ghost Of the Lefthand Drawer)-- there are soooo many new people who might not realize about Goldie...
fact--strange things do happen around here---it would be nice it someone made a list... but a few i remember..
one of the first--- teh pups demolished my sneakers one night and i sat at my desk wishing outloud i had a pair of sneakers to wear- a few munutes later a house guest came downstairs with a box of brand new sneakers she found in th ehall upstairs....-- my size-- not bought by me-- because i always bought new balance at the outlet store. no one could figure where they came from...
ok... not all that wierd...
somewhere along the line we got a new donkey -immediately i was concerned about kids fingers feeding a new donkey-- my solution was small frying pans... that day at mail call in box were 2 small frying pans.. in purple. !!! those pans had to be mailed before we even knew we were getting a donkey.

while we were trying to figure that out, a horrendous smell wafted from th e top left drawer of my desk.. i quickly did all the normal things--inspection of contents....various soaps, vinegars --to no avail..and then we started the abnormal things-- as all the camera people got in the project and sent stuff to try., sun ... rain... paint thinner, odor nullifiers, even down to soaking in annesette liquor. nothing erased it-- and it was a terrible smell which you didn't even notice unless you opened the drawer. i got resigned to the stench and suddenly-- it was gone. with no residual.
that is when we decided it was Goldie.

with my poor memory i can't remember the dozens of very strange "happenings"
but it has trained me not to question the arrival of anything out of the ordinary
invariably Goldie will explain the arrival.

i kind of put the 31 pups in that catagorie-- all those births took place before the george and bella
news... which has caused us to have a huge surge in applications...-
i am having faith that goldie will provide for a big grant or two and maybe some more talented help????..

neal is not improving as expected...his temp was still 104+ last night.
grace is giving him fluids and his meds... they took blood sample yesterday
for more testing...

there are alot of schools who are-- it seems-- giving kids exposure to service dogs...
we get requests regularly to go "talk"

TODAY LYDIA AND I WERE INVITED TO GO TO POWNAL ELEMENTARY SCHOOL IN POWNAL, VERMONT TO TALK WITH MR. ROBERTS 5TH GRADE CLASS AS THEY ARE STUDYING SERVICE DOGS.
I BROUGHT THE PAMPHLET'S WHICH LYNNE AND RENEE HAD CREATED TO USE AS A JUMPING OFF POINT.. (MANY THANKS TO THEM!) AND GAVE THEM EACH A COPY

LYDIA WAS VERY SUCCESSFUL AT ACHIEVING BOREDOM DURING THE PRESENTATION. :~) THE KIDS WERE VERY RESPECTFUL AND VERY INTERESTED IN THE SUBJECT. THEY WERE FASCINATED WITH LYDIA'S SIZE, AND ASKED MANY GREAT QUESTIONS. I SPENT AN HOUR IN THEIR CLASS. TALKING ABOUT THE DO'S AND DON'T S, AS WELL AS THE AMAZING PLACE LYDIA CAME FROM. I ALSO MENTIONED BELLA AND GEORGE, AND HOW GEORGE JUST WON THE AKC SERVICE DOG OF THE YEAR AWARD. :~)
ONE QUESTION WAS WHY DID I CHOOSE LYDIA? THEY WERE FASCINATED WHEN I TOLD THEM SERVICE DOG PROJECT LETS THE DOG CHOOSE THE PERSON. THEY ASKED ME HOW LONG SHE WOULD WORK BEFORE SHE RETIRES. I TOLD THEM THAT WAS HARD TO SAY, HOWEVER SDP HAS SOME DOGS STILL IN SERVICE AT THE AGE OF 10, SO WE NEVER KNOW.
THEY ASKED ME IF SHE SLEPT WITH ME, WHICH OF COURSE IS A BIG "YES". THEY ASKED ME IF I HAD TO BE TRAINED TO WORK WITH LYDIA, AND HOW LONG I STAYED AT SDP WHEN I WAS BEING MATCHED..ETC..
VERY WELL PREPARED GROUP OF KIDS.
