I sent the following text to Meg this morning but wanted to make sure you saw it too. Feel free to use it in the dd tomorrow if you want. 

We went to the Topsfield commons and then out to dinner last night. He did great at the Commons and even made it up the hill by the white church one time. When we were cruising down the street all by ourselves, I teared up. I haven't been able to do anything like that since Spot died since it takes so much energy. All I can say is thank you but that doesn't begin to express how grateful I am for you, Carlene, SDP, and especially Zep. 🐶❤️

I AM TOLD IT CAN BE RENTED FOR WEDDINGS FOR $40,000 FOR 4 HOURS JUST IN CASE ANY OF YOU ARE IN NEED OF THAT INFO....  THERE IS ALSO AN "INN AT CASTLE HILL" BASICALLY THE ULTIMATE B&B- WITH  10 ROOMS COSTING ABOUT $300-$500 PER NIGHT-- OR THE ENTIRE INN FOR $4000-- AND IT IS NOT KID FRIENDLY,,,   A FAR CRY FROM MOTEL 6.

 I HAVE PROVEN IT DOES NOT WORK LEAVING IT IN MY CAR  BECAUSE THAT INSIGNIFICANT  TINY BATTERY  WAS DRAINING MY LARGE CAR'S BATTERY OVERNIGHT. - AND MY CAR IS REALLY A TRUCK UNDERNEATH...  BIG.... 

SO THAT DIDN'T WORK.

I AM STRUGGLING   TO DEFEND MYSELF AGAINST THE INSANITY OF TECHNOLOGY.  I DO NOT SEEM TO BE ABLE TO KEEP IT CHARGED IN ENOUGH TO BE ABLE TO MAKE PHONE CALLS FROM MY CAR... WHICH IS WHERE I NEED IT.

FYI....

ON THE TOPIC OF CAR BATTERIES --- I SEE MY CAR AS A N EMERGENCY GENERATOR- FAR EASIER TO GET AROUND THAN DRAGGIING A 200 POUND GASOLINE THING THAT HAS A PULL ROPE START. 

IN MY CAR I HAVE AN " INVERTER"  -- NOT EXPENSIVE----WOULD NOT RUN MUCH... BUT ENOUGH TO BE USEFUL-- FLOODLIGHTS-- PA SYSTEMS-- OIL FURNACE...  ETC.....

  I HAVE    ALSO A GREAT WAD OF LEAD PAINTED YELLOW ... WITH CORDS TO HEFT ONTO THE ENGINE AND CAUSE TEH BATTERY NOT  TO BE DEAD...  WEIGHS A TON... SO HEAVY THAT IT IS NOT REALLY USEFUL  AND YOU TRIP OVER IT  ( NO TRUNK)

**THEN I FOUND.. I THINK IT WAS HAMMERCHER SCHLEMMER ---A COMPACT- LEATHER CASE - NOT ALOT BIGGER THAN THE PHONE  WHICH I CAN'T FIND--    I AM SHOCKED AND AMAZED--IT HAS  WORKED TWICE NOW  TO JUMP START MY CAR  WHEN  THE BATTERY IS DEAD FROM TRYING TO KEEP MY PHONE CHARGED.  FITS IN THE GLOVE COMPARTMENT.  DARN GOOD.

THAT OTHER YELLOW SUITCASE THING IS LIKE THE ADVERTZEMENTS  ON TV FOR A FLASHLIGHT YOU CAN BOIL IN WATER OR DROP FROM A HELICOPTER--   IF THAT IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO WITHA FLASHLIGHT.., THE THING IS SO CUMBERSOM  YOU WOULD NEVER BE CARRYING IT ON THE ODD CHANCE THAT YOU WOULD BE FALLING FROM A HELICOPTER.  IT IS SIMPLER JUST TO STAY OUT OF HELICOPERS...

WHICH BRINGS TO MIND CARRYING THINGS IN A POCKETBOOK.. OR GEROGE'S BACKPACKS THAT YOU MIGHT NEED.

THAT WHOLE CONCEPT CAN GET OUT OF HAND.  A REALLY IMAGINATIVE PERSON   CAN SEE REASON TO LOAD HIM DOWN WITH A CAR BATTERY CHARGER, HAMMER, DICTIONARY AND FIRST AID KIT.

PERSONALLY , I SUFFER FROM THIS PROBLEM-- WHICH IS WHY MY PHONE IS MISSING...  I HAVE PUT IT SOMEWHERE.

BUT  CLEANING OUT LOOKING FOR  HAS CAUSED ME TO QUESTION  WHAT EXACTLY IS NECESSARY IN AN EMERGENCY? 

I NEED TO STUDY THAT..

THE SCOTTISH  "ROPE WITH A RING" IS HIGH ON MY LIST ....EVEN WITHOUT USING  IT AS A LEASH.

MAYBE GE IS COMING TODAY ..M WITH A CREW TO CLEAN UP THE WALK THRU THE WOODS...  THERE IS A PLACE WHERE A SMALL STREAM MIGHT HAVE FLOWED IN THE GOOD OLD DAYS WE HAD RAIN ETC.. BUT I KNOW WTH T DONKEYS WILL NOT CROSS IT THE WAY IT IS.. AND   BIKERS  HAVE TRIED TO BUILD A BRIDGE OVER IT LEAVING BOARDS AND NAILS ALL OVER.. SO YESTRDAY I BOUGHT A COUPLE SHOVELS ( I CAN'T GET THE TRACTOR OUT THERE... WE TOO K OUT THE LARGE PIPE CULVERT THAT WAS IN THE V PEN AS A PUPPY TOY.. HOPEFULLY TODAY WE CAN COVER IT.... NO.... THEY CAN  COVER IT AND PICK UP ALL THE BOARDS AND NAILS..  WE WILL HAVE A GOOD "WALKABOUT"   TRAIL...

Team Hunter & Wendy added 3 photos and a video. TO FACEBOOK EPW SITE..

Today, 3 years ago, Hunter's life, our life, changed...Wendy became part of our family! Who knows where Hunter would be if Wendy hadn't chosen him....I would rather not think about it. It happened so quickly and was not always easy, but they have both worked really hard to get to where they are 

 today...an amazing team! Poor Wendy is getting gray already (hopefully taking some of mine), because of Hunter, but I don't think she would want it any other way!💜They have experienced many things in 3 years, from the good, bad, and ugly, but have always done it together. Wendy has allowed 

 Hunter to be stronger and more independent and it has been an amazing journey. And it all started at servicedogproject.org! Without Carlene, Megan & Steve, all the volunteers and, last but not least, the CPs, Team Hunter & Wendy would not be possible. Thank you, to each and every one of you, for 

 bringing up Wendy to be amazing service dog and allowing her to be part of Hunter's life. They are quickly growing up together and may they have many more adventures to come!❤

Just got back from the big VA hospital in Boston from my annual appointment.  I was amazed of how relaxed and calm Emmett was this time, being a year of working together. He went from a scared, shaking dog, who ran into a room to hide to one dog who was so relaxed he was snoring.

i got sidetracked trying to help  this person...  i have adopted the opinion that if someone can present me with a perfectly trained dane who can pass all the details of the assistance dog international public access test-- then i can certify them...  but be totally aware-- the dog must be perfect--- i am not about to risk accreditation on this idea...  i just can not see why  i should not....since so many of the adi trainers will not work with danes, when they can help so many tall  people - and small kids-  to walk  and have a more normal life.

once again sticking my neck out... but we have had  danes be attadked  by 2 service dogs of another training facility-- so   there is no such thing as 100%.  i probably would do a video of teh dog being tested .

(---- we all know  how effective video's are to prove  either good or unacceptable behavior....  ref:cnn---)

 I live in Central Florida, about an hour from Universal, Sea World, and the Mighty Mouse.  I have a fifteen month old Great Dane puppy, extremely calm, gentle, and listens well.  I have been diagnosed with multiple Sclerosis, and my balance has deteriorated to extremely poor.  When I applied to Service Dog Project about a year ago, you turned me down due to my not living in the Northeast.  So, I am now back again asking whether or not you might happen to have any retired trainers living in Florida who might want to pick up a bit of moon lighting in balance and stability training?  On the other hand do you have a trainer who, in addition to a lovely vacation, might want FREE board and limited funds to work with my dog and me for balance and stability training while in Central Florida?  I have a large, private guest room with full bath.  Please, oh Please don’t turn me down this time.

yikes... let me work on it...  but you can start yourself....

beware.....i have a problem with  someone hanging up a sign that says "dog trainer"  when their own dog is not perfectly behaved...

danes don't train like any other dogs...  they need to be educated. careful with alot of "obedience show " type dog trainers.                                             

i say many times - they are born trained, just don't wreck them with alot of "commands"

they must behave-- they are too big to do otherwise-- but  don' t expect the immediate reaction of an obedience  trained dog

concept -- if you  "command " an obedience dog  "down"  he should drop

to ask a service dog to lie down , means we are goin gto be here for a while, make yourself comfortable right near my foot.

it is a whole different attitude...  try not to use your muscles to make your dog behave...    carry treats in your left pocket. and very soon they will heel  with no leash..( assuming they have enough exercise so they ar not too bouncy...)

i would not even start trying to get them to retrieve--- they just have no natural instinct-- so most  golden trainers say they are stupid

they certainly are not stupid-- they watch you throw those yellow balls and think you are nuts !!

i have an article i wrote about training a dane for service.... it is how we do it.  ....it is attached...

you certainly should start yourself... with the spoon feeding  to get them into politely  paying attention..

what you might  look for is someone who has a nicely trained dog, many times a "farm dog"  that tags around after their owner is exactly what you need to find...then have that person  to take yours out in the real world  totally under control...   within 4 inches of your leg under all conditions... and doing alot of "one step"  at a time...in the malls.. and up and down stairs...

it is not complicated.... but no excuces "oh he is just a puppy"... or  "he does that all the time" no... when a harness is on, perfect attention  and behavior...  just their size will take care of the balance and stability.   after that ... whoa ( stop now)

and wait ( hesitate til i say ok)  will get you 78% of teh way- and talk to them all the time...

GOLDIE..... I DON'T KNOW WHY TEH CONSUMER PROTECTION OFFICE CALLED HERE- AND LEFT A MESSAGE FOR ME TO  CALL BACK....- I RETURNED THE CALL- AND WE COULD NOT FIGURE OUT WHY I HAD THAT NOTE ON MY DESK.. IN THE PROCESS I MENTIONED I WISH I HAD CALLED THEM ABOUT MY PROBLEMS WITH THE BUILDING INSPECTORS AND THE DOG HOUSE... AND WENT OVER THE  DETAILS WITH  THAT PERSON.  IT WAS NOT SOMETHING THEY COULD ADDRESS  BUT SHE HEAVILY SUGGESTED I CONTACT THE ATTORNEY GENERAL'S OFFICE...  SHE WAS NOT SURE THAT WOULD HELP EITHER  BUT MAYBE AS A CHARITY WE WOULD HAVE SOME  CASE...

I WOULD HAVE SOME HOMEWORK TO DO TO DIG OUT ALL TEH BILLS.  I FEEL TERRIBLE THAT  OUR CHARITY MONEY HAS TO GO TO  TEH DECISIONS MADE BY THE BUILDING INSPECTORS   A...B... and ...C

#1.   FIRST PROBLEM WAS TO REBUILD A COLLAPSED INDOOR ARENA DUE TO BLIZZARD.

#2.   I NEEDED A DOG HOUSE WITH ALL WASHABLE / CHLOROX'D WALLS/FLOORS TO BE ABLE TO ISOLATE ANY DOG  OR TWO WITH A RUNNY NOSE .. I DREW UP A 20 X 30 CONCRETE BLOCK  DOG HOUSE WITH STORAGE ROOM  ON GRAPH PAPER . 

***THE FIRST RUN IN ...WITH "A"  "WHY ARE YOU NOT USING OUR LOCAL CONTRACTOR TO REBUILD THE ARENA.?   YOU ARE OUT OF YOUR LEAGUE, YOU ARE ONLY A WOMAN".  --- SO  WHEN I DID NOT USE HIS CONTRACTOR,  I WAS ORDERED... " BEFORE YOU DO ANYTHING  GET SOIL COMPACTION STUDY DONE BY XXXX  APPROVED  ENGINEER" - AT A COST OF $27,000 FOR A "BALLOON BUILDING"   WHICH WOULD FLY UP BEFORE IT COMPACTED ANYTHING.  "A" IS GONE...?RETIRED?

***SECOND BASIC PROBLEM---  INSPECTOR "B" --  THE  "B"  INSPECTOR REFUSED TO GIVE US A PERMIT FOR THE DOG HOUSE- AND IN THE PROCESS  MIS- INFORMED THE NEIGHBORS  THAT I WAS BUILDING A VETERNARY HOSPITAL AND WOULD INCREASE THE TRAFFIC AND NUMBER OF DOGS"   SO THEY GOT ALL UPSET AND BEGAN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT  DOGS BARKING...----  AFTER MOVING IN NEXT  TO CRAZY ACRES 13 YEARS AGO, , WE HAD NO COMPLAINTS FROM PARTRIDGEBERRY DEVELOPEMENT NEXT DOOR...NOW, .WITH HIS NOTICES,  THEY STILL ARE STILL ALL FIRED UP .  THEIR ZONING COMPLAINT  WAS  OVERTURNED-- $8000 LATER.

."B" WAS ESCORTED OUT OF THE TOWN HALL-- GONE"    

***THE LATEST  "C"  BECAUSE THE BUILDING GOT LABELED  A COMMERCIAL BUILDING, THIS DOG HOUSE HAS  TO BE IN COMPLIANCE WITH COMMERCIAL BUILDING CODES----  THE LATEST BEING .. INSTEAD OF A $500 PLUMBING BILL FOR A FLOOR DRAIN SO WE COULD WASH THE FLOORS, HE  INSTRUCTED THE PLUMBER TO INSTALL A $19,000 FLOOR  DRAIN  SYSTEM OF P TRAPS AND  FRESH WATER PIPED INTO THE DRAINS   TO AUTOMATICALLY  FLUSH THE P TRAPS.  WHEN I TRIED TO ASK WHY IT WAS LABELED A COMMERCIAL BUILDING I WAS TOLD " BECAUSE  I SAID SO -  IT IS NOT A HOUSE."   THIS ARROGANT "PUBLIC SERVANT" WHICH GETS PAID WITH MY TAXES IS BEING A BULLY AND WRECKING OUR CHARITY FINANCES- WHAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN A $20,000 DOG HOUSE IS NOW APPROACHING $60,000 BECAUSE HE HAS DECIDED IT IS A COMMERCIAL BUILDING.. 

THIS  IS A FARM..  IT IS A DOG HOUSE

  I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO DEAL WITH THIS BULLY  JUST SO I CAN GET ON WITH  OUR PROJECT.... HOWEVER.... WITH ALL THIS POLITICAL   BUSINESS OF WOMEN SPEAKING UP , I AM NOW THINKING IT MAY BE MY RESPONSIBILITY TO   QUESTION WHY ALL THESE PEOPLE WHO COME TO INSPECT US  ARE ALL DRIVING BRAND NEW TRUCKS.   IF NOT ME... the scottish poem keeps coming to mind..

this happens almost every morning now....  i listen to the 4 am  news, and definitely get ideas about hte content.

i go thru "i can't say that"  many times-- but i can not help saying

the  way the debate  could have been worse is if they were chewing  gum.

picture taking yestersday-- i forgot why, but i ended up just telling the photographer to just go in the pen withthe donkeys and take pictures...he was not used to donkeys-- and pockets said "  hey !!! look at teh new guy- lets see if he carrries treats"   i wish i had a camera as he tried to escape pockets and friends attention... t hey were good...  they did not kick... but it was  a new experience for him...--- the time donkeys kick is when they are being silly and  run past you and  "cow kick"   which is a sideways swipe-- that is not in mean ness...it hurts just as much  but they are not being  vicious -- just cute !!  as for walking behind a donkey. i have handled  hundreds of donkeys in all kinds of situations,and have never been kicked-HOWEVER--- DONKEYS DO TALK-- AND IF THEY SAY   "STAY AWAY FROM MY REAR,"  I DO THAT.   \they have a way  of slightly raising their head and flicking their tail-  which says very clearly "I DON'T WANT TO WASTE MY ENERGY KICKING YOU , BUT I WILL IF I HAVE TO."

if you watch them in theri stall- all heads down chewing hay--- there is a tail flicking that is not  swatting flys, but telling other donkeys- or people --- sometihng--- usually---- move over or i will kick.

donkeys can kill dogs/wolves- and are used for that purpose in herds of sheep.  they don't do it  with their heels, but most often with ther teeth-- bite- hang on- and trample--  the problem with kicking at a wolf is  the wolf encourages the kick, then there is a split second where the back leg is on the ground and is time enough for the wolf to rush in and grab by teh Achilles tendon... somenow nature has all that figured out....

remember that story about  the greek guy   Achilles gettting dunked in the creek so he would be impenetrable and everything got dunked except his heel which  is where the arrow  hit and killed him?????  did i get that right???

the story survives in todays medicine--- a  "ruptured achilles" is pretty incapacitating

lesson of the day is all animals are dangerous in certain situations--   bentley could have easily  killed me when we got shocked with that electrified elevator.  -

 people animals are  extremely dangerous ever since they devised a way to kill more than one person at a time...

that would make  mr. gattling teh ultimate villan.

didn't he invent the gattling gun to kill a bunch at a time???

it only got worse from there...

fortunately  so far  lust is keeping up with the oversupply of people.

Clark has helped me walk so much faster than I did before!  This weekend, my mom and I went shoe shopping at the mall.  My mom is a very fast walker (she always has about 16,000 steps per day on her Fitbit), and she usually has to slow way down to walk at my pace.  But I was walking so fast with Clark, she was able to just walk normally, and we were walking together!

Also, today my boss commented that Clark has the best temperament, better than any of the candidates for president.  He said he would vote for Clark for president...ha!

BLESSED BE THE  RAINMAKERS !  WE ARE FINALLY DRENCHED...I AM NOT SURE WE CAN  GO BACK TO CONSTANT  FLUFFY WASH..RENEWAL-- TEH SHAKE AND FLUFF SEEMS TO BE AN ADEQUATE SOLUTION...-- AS IS TEH SCRUB AND RINSE IN THE OUTDOOR KENNELS  INSTEAD OF POWERWASHING-- IS A WATER SAVER TOO.

I AM ANXIOUS TO SEE  WHAT THE OFFECT IT HAS ON OUR $1000 A MONTH WATER BILL--  (?AFFECT?? EFFECT?? IF I MISTYPE IT AS OFFECT YOU GET TO TAKE YOUR CHOICE..)

DONKEYS

I TOTALLY FORGOT THE 10:30 SUNDAY DONKEY MARCH... WHICH A GROUP DID IN THE ARENA- AND IT WAS PRETTY FUNNY, AS TEH DONKEYS ARE NOT YET USED TO THE PERFORMANCE--

  WILL THEY LEARN?  DONKEYS ARE VERY BRIGHT- AND PRACTICAL... I USED TO DRIVE 8 LIKE THE BUDWEISERS IN PARADES FOR CHRISTMAS-- EVENTUALLY I DIDN'T EVEN BOTHER TO PUT ON  THE REINS, PUT A BIG STUFFED BEAR ON TEH DRIVERS SEAT AND    SAT ON THE BACK OF THE WAGON-- TEH DONKEYS KNEW THEY WERE TO WANDER UP THE MIDDLE OF THE  STREET--  IT WAS THE ONLY SAFE PLACE TO BE WITH ALL THOSE PEOPLE JUMPING UP AND DOWN WAVING THINGS AND YELLING ALONG EACH SIDE...

I REMEMBER THE FIRST PALM SUNDAY JOB WE DID WITH MARY--   WE MAY HAVE THOUGHT PALMS.... MARY SAW THEM AS WHIPS... ALONG WITH HAVING  NEVER BEEN RIDDEN BEFORE, SHE HAD TO CARRY SOME KID IN A WHITE BATHROBE.

MARY WAS WONDERFUL-- JUST KEEP THOSE CARROTS COMING....

ANOTHER GREAT PARADE WAS -- NOT BEING TRAINED  TO DRIVE- WE HAD ONE PRACTICE RUN WITH  EARLENE INTHE TILLER SEAT OF "THE HALF  FAST FIRE DEPARTMENT" 'S LADDER TRUCK.  AND WENT ON TO DO SEVERAL PARADESW WITH THAT RIG... IT WAS PRETTY FUNNY---  THE PIECES ARE STILL AROUND HERE... EXCEPT NONE OF THE DONKEYS HERE  ARE  AS FORGIVING AS MARY... YET...

i can tell you about being at a horse auction with lynn cashman ( bruins hockey husband wayne cashman)  she is a very accomplished quarter horse breeder..who has done it the hard way ( callosses on her hands from shoveling  stalls herself) -- this beautiful horse came in the sales ring...  a stallion --- really pretty--  but did not behave rearing and whinneying---  she turned to me and said "would make a nice gelding" .

oh--- how many times i have said repeated that concept. ( p.s.  for the new commers---  a gelding is a neutered male horse  more suitable to  steady work).

It was a Nana Day! Bella and George had a great day. They spent the day with Nana. Bella made an apple pie and it was delicious! They also played cards. One of Bella's favorites, then had some fun with play dough. They Had a great day of course. George was able to eat a new bone he got. Today when I 

got to work Bella and George had many gifts. Cookies, dog toys, coloring books, a window rainbow maker as Bella calls it, and wonderful cards letting Bella know people are thinking of her. I can't thank you all enough for your love you show. Some things she plans to keep and use during her hospital stay 

and the god toys are already being out to good use! Thank you all very much again. For the gifts, the cards, the warm up holding messages you leave Bella and family on this page. We truly appreciate all the support. Thank you so very much. Love Bella and George 👧🐶💕

I can't believe the Chuppies will be 4 soon. How is that possible? Oscar, Ivy, and Casper were my 3 Dogateers and we all went through a long and rough learning curve when they were put out in Kennel 10 for the first time. We panicked when Capt Jack Sparrow first appeared. We were afraid they were too cold when the weather dropped. "What if one get's sick and no one is there?" 

Carlene's first rule for the CP's were "If the barn ain't burning, don't call." I'm afraid my boy Oscar was the culprit of keeping them together for so long. While I loved his "I'll pee where I want to" attitude made me laugh, i'm sure it wasn't fun for the people and pups there. 

God Bless explore for the cameras, the staff and volunteers for the love and training (both for the dogs and us), the people who support SDP in any way they can, and especially the wit and wisdom of Carlene.
