large day today...

firstly ----clark and caroline are doing beautifully... clarke already sees that she is his path out of kennel living-and is devoted-- travel arraingements have been made for megan to travel with her on her first airplane ride--- if she had  had clark for 6 months , i would not think twice about her tackling the airline industry- but all things considered, i decided ( along with a few other board members who happened to be standing around here) that it would be an appropriate expense of teh fun fund to have megan fly out and back the same day... the description of the fun fund "for those things not necessary but  interesting" clearly fit having megan  fly to ohio and back in one day.  i could not see how caroline could  back clark  between the seats,lie down and then get herself inot the window seat...  was not going to happen...  so megan goes along.

 the second first  thing....  speaking of the  "fun fund"----- the SDP organization-- which includes all the camera people, does not exist for the purpose of anyone raising money for their own personal use...all night i have been  copied and pasted about one of our recipients trying to get people to send her -- or her vet- money for an operation on her dog to cure a  "problem" that she says is genetic yet i have not seen  the "problem" in the 331 dogs i have raised that are related to hers.

let me be very clear........ we have a fun fund which is our way of handling any unusual expences of ours or any of "our" dogs.... we have a board of directors who get to approve or disapprove of expendatures from that fund...  pregnancy ultra sounds-- sending megan somewhere  with a recipient-- or a dog-- ------

----transporting dogs from europe.... we were not made aware that this person was unable to provide for her own dog- which is one of the provisions of having a dog of ours.  if anyone can not care for thier dog , it is to come back here and we will  provide whatever is needed.

we have a very caring group---and  everybody wants to help if there is a  true  emergency..so to avoid any abuse of the system, or the rules of being a  501 C-3 charity---- i heavily suggest money be sent to the sdp fun fund... and if there is a true emergency there are 8 people on the board who can decide if our charity needs to be extended in some situation.  the opinion of the  board over rides any opinion of mine in this kind of situation- which is a protection  against any personal opinions i might have.

and in this case i have plenty.

next problem.... a far lighter one... you all know my extreme interest in trash --- both  books  garbalogy and the trail of trash..  should be mandatory reading for any high school kid... and how the man most important in the life of sdp is the guy who collects our trash-- not the president of the country.

i woke up distinctly remembering what i did with my hearing aids--- yesterday --i got up and  one needed new batteries- which were next to my computer so  i did not put them onn my head, i had them in my hand..  went to the kitchen for coffee- and decided on  one of those beautiful oranges someone sent..

i had to put the hearing aides someplace safe-- so i put them in a new coffee cup and set them aside.  with coffee in one hand and the plate of orange slices in teh other, i left the kitchen.. and all thoughts of my hearing aides  got left in the kitchen with the  new coffee cup-- it was late  afternoon before i realized i was not wearing them.... and by then someone cleaned the kitchen....

so i am afraid............my interest in picking trash got reved up a bit..

they are insured-- so i am willing to go thru yesterdays trash as long as it did not get to the dumpster..

trash in our dumpster is REALLY  trash--in which case teh insurance company  will be contacted.

the kitchen trash is in a clear plastic bag-- which could help this process--

I AM CONCERNED ABOUT CARROLINE'S FLIGHT BACK... WE MAY HAVE TO TAP THE FUN FUND AND SEND MEGAN WITH HER AS A LAST RESORT....  I AM SURE CLARK WOULD BACK IN BETWEEN THE SEATS, BUT I WAS UP ALL NIGHT TRYING TO FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET CAROLINE IN THE WINDOW SEAT IF HE IS ALREADY ON THE FLOOR...

SUCH PROBLEMS !!!

THEN... I WONDERED IF THIS WOULD QUALIFY FOR A "PUPPIES IN FLIGHT" CREW..  THAT IS HOW WE GOT WALTER AND SCARLOTT FROM DENMARK.. IT IS A PROGRAM WERE  AIRLINE EMPLOYEES  WILL GO MOST ANYWHERE, PICK UP A PUPPY AND GET IT TO WHEREVER IT NEEDS TO GO...  IT WORKED BEAUTIFULLY  FROM DENMARK TO BOSTON...

CLAMPED TO THE BUCKET OF THE TRACTOR, MAKING IT A FAKE  FORK LIFT-- IT JUST-- I MEAN JUST.. LIFTS THOSE PALLETS AND LOWERS THEM TO THE GROUND.  THEY STICK OUT SO FAR IN FRONT THAT THE LEVERAGE ON THE BUCKET IS SOMETHING FIERCE.  BU T SO FAR SO GOOD..

AND WE DID RESERECT ONE OF MARK'S ROLLING WHATEVER THEY ARE CALLED THAT WILL MOVE TEH FOOD DOWN TO THE BACK OF THE  20 ' STORAGE UNIT-- IF FOR SOME REASON THE TRACTOR SHOULD REFUSE TO UNLOAD THOSE THINGS WE WILL BE IN BAD TROUBLE... BECAUSE I THINK THIS KIND OF FREIGHT DELIVERY GIVES YOU 15 MINUTES TO UNLOAD..OR IT COST'S BIG TIME.

Hi Carlene! Harry and I were in walmart the other day and were stopped by someone asking about SDP. It happened to be the sister in law of a recipient! Their family happens to live 2 miles from where we are. It was so exciting to get in contact and today they had a play date and boy did they play! We are so lucky to have these new friends 2 legged and 4! They are such an amazing family. WELL... WE ARE SOLVENT-BILLS PAID.. DOGS WARM , FED,  VERY HAPPY, AND WELL STARTED TO A LIFE OF SERVICE DOGGING,

I HAVE TO ADMIT THESE TRAINERS ARE DOING A  JOB BEYOND FANTASTIC... AND I AM WELL AWARE THAT  "PRIDE GOETH BEFORE A FALL" .. CAROLINE WAS HERE LAST NIGHT WITH CLARK.

  CLARK CLEARLY SAID "FINALLY  I GET A REAL PERSON  WITH WHOM I CAN ENJOY LIFE"

SHE GOT UP WOBBLY AS USUAL, AND HE SWUNG INTO POSITION NICE AS COULD BE - WITHOUT A WORD.-- THIS IS AFTEER ?24 HOURS? OF ASSOCIATION AND 4 HRS OF OFFICIAL WORK WITH A TRAINER-- KATI.-  KATI WAS NOT THE OFFICIAL TRAINER OF CLARK... THE LIST IS LONG... MEGAN  STEVE  COLLEEN  SHARRON AND EVERYONE HERE WHO EDUCATED HIM TO  BE A VERY NICE DOG, ALONG WITH ALL THE PEOPLE WHO DONATED TO HIS SUPPORT.

WE HAVE A COUPLE MORE IN HIS LITTER   COMING ALONG NICELY-- AND THEN.... THE BIG BUNCH OF 31.. I HAD THOUGHT IN THAT 31 THERE WOULD BE 5 OR 6 WHO WOULD BE FF FOR SOME REASON... BUT SO FAR THEY ARE ALL SPECTACULAR-- WITH THE POSSIBLE EXCEPTION OF GRETCHEN.. THE ONE IN THE HOUSE .. WHO IS GETTING %^&*()  SPOILED. 

 THE EASIEST WAY I CAN EXPLAIN HOW OUR DOGS WORK.... IS... IF I WENT OUT ANS STARTED TO PICK UP A 50 POUND BAG OF HORSE FOOD... SOMEONE WOULD COME ALONG AND SAY  "MAY I HELP YOU?" -- AND THAT WAS EXACTLY WHAT CLARK DID LAST NIGHT AS CAROINE WENT OUT THE FRONT DOOR...  HE SWUNG RIGHT IN PLACE--EYES ON HER..

HE HAS   "IT"...

SO IF WE CAN DEFINE WHERE   "THERE" IS AND WHAT  "IT" IS. WE WOULD BE IN GREAT SHAPE.

SHE IS DOING  Very well. Actually well enough that I didn’t bothER  looking at my email all day. Ava is far more interesting than the computer.  She seems to be getting quite comfortable at her new home. Random, our cat has felt it his right to drink from Ava’s water and lay on Ava’s fluffies, but told Ava she should not sniff the cat’s bed. He’s taken a few swipes at her, but they are both happy to sleep side by side on the reclining love seat.

WHATEVER-- THERE SEEMS TO BE A CERTAIN PLACE/ OR CONDITIONS WHICH CAUSE THE SKIN TO SPLIT.. AND THEN IS IT FUN.. BRIGHT RED BLOOD SPRAYED IN EVERY DIRECTION..  THE HAPPIER, THE MORE SPRAY...

NOW IT IS POSSIBLE TO RUN TO THE VET WITH IT... AND IF YOU ARE NEW TO YOUR VET, HE/SHE WILL WITH GREAT AUTHORITY TELL YOU ABOUT THE SPECIAL BANDAGE HE CAN PUT ON TO CURE THE PROBLEM-- IF YOU HAVE BEEN AWHILE WITH THAT VET-- AS WE HAVE WITH DR.GEORGE.... HE WILL STAND THERE AND SAY  "WHAT DO YOU WANT  ME TO TRY THIS TIME?"  OR EVEN "WHAT  DO YOU EXPECT ME TO DO WITH IT?"

BECAUSE IN MY EXPERIENCE THERE IS NOT A BANDAGE THT WIL STAY ON FOR MORE THAT 24 HOURS.... AND  UNLESS YOU ACCIDENTLY HIT THE JACKPOT , THE ONLY REAL CURE IS TO CROP THE TAIL.... AND IF I HAD MY WAY   ALL GREAT DANE PUPS WOULD HAVE THIER TAILS CROPPED--  BUT IT WOULD BE DONE UNDER ANESTHESIA - AND NOT JUST CHOPPED OFF WHEN THEY ARE BORN.

NOT ONLY  DO THEY GET IN THE WAY, BUT WITH A DANE, THE SWING OF THE TAIL IS ABOUT 32" FROM THE FLOOR-- WHICH IS ABOUT THE AVERAGE  LENGTH OF A MAN'S INSEAM.

I MUST NOT HAVE SOUNDED LIKE A PROSPECT... BECAUSE THEY BOTH HUNG UP ON ME..

APPARENTLY THERE ARE EXTRA VITAMINS AND MINERALS  WHICH ARE  USUALLEY ADDED TO THE WET FOOD JUST IN CASE THAT IS ALL YOU ARE FEEDING.. IN OUR CASE WE WERE USING IT OT ADD FLAVOR TO THE DRY. SO ALTHO WE COULD HAVE ADDED A PET TAB AND COME OUT THE SAME, THEY HAVE CHANGED OUR SHIPMENT TO CANS INSTEAD OF TUBS.--

FACT... I BOUGHT A NEW LAPTOP AT COSTCO-- AND WAS STARTING TO FIGURE  IT OUT WHEN........

-- ALLOF A SUDDEN FLASHED A SCREEN AND VOICE "DON'T DO A THIHG UNTIL YOU CALL THIS NUMBER  YOU HAVE A VIRUS".. AND THE PHONE NUMBER  WAS SUPPOSED TO BE MICROSOFT...  I WAS LEARY---HOWEVER...

I DID NOT THINK CALLING THE NUMBER FROM MY HOUSE PHONE COULD MAKE ANY PROBLEM... SO I DID-- THEY ASKED  WHAT I CONSIDERED STRANGE QUESTIONS-- LIKE WHERE DID I BUY IT-- AND HOW MUCH DID I PAY--- AND THEN HUNG UP-- OR D/C ??..

STILL NOT SEEING HOW I COULD GET IN TROUBLE USING THE HOUSE PHONE... I CALLED BACK-- NICE SOUNDING MAN ASKED A COUPLE QUESTONS LIKE "WHEN DID YOU BUY IT?

AAGAIN NORMAL SOUNDING--- AND WE WERE D/C OR HE HUNG UP/

IT SEEMED THAT HE WAS TRYING TO KEEP ME ON THE PHONE FOR A SHORT TIME...AND THEN WE WERE D/C JUST AS THE FIRST PERSON. SO IS MY PHONE NOW SUBJECT TO HACKING?????

OR HAVE THEY LOOKED UP MY PHONE NUMBER AND ARE ABOUT TO ARRIVE UP THE DRIVEWAY TO TRY AND STEAL THE COMPUTER...

I CAN NOT IMAGINE WHY THAT HAPPENED LEGITIMATELY...

I KNOW  THAT IF I PLAY THE AUNTIE MAME MUSIC AT MY DESK COMPUTER , WHEN I GET IN MY CAR THE CAR STARTS PLAYING MAME MUSIC.... MAYBE WHERE WE LEFT OFF( NOT TOO SURE ON THAT ONE  BUT CERTAINLY THE SAME ALBUM).

THESE THINGS TALK TO EACH OTHER- SO ..?DID MY NEW ONE PICK UP SOME OF THE NASTY HABITS OF THE DESK ONE?  --

THE HOUSE PHONE IS ALSO VERIZON AND WAS THAT WIRELESS SYSTEM TALKING TO THESE MEN WHO WANTED TO KNOW ABOUT THE NEW LAPTOP?????

IF IT MEANS THEY ARE NOW GOING TO READ ALL MY EMAILS FROM MY PARKED CAR, HAVE AT IT GUYS !!  

THIS TECH BIT HAS GONE TOO FAR FOR ME..

THAT WAS A LESSON LONG AGO IN PROGRAMMING THE THINGS-- JUST BECAUSE YOU COULD DO SOMETHING WITH A COMPUTER DOES NOT MEAN IT IS THE WISEST THING TO DO.

IT IS THE DARN  "IF... THEN"  STATEMENT WHICH GIVES THE COMPUTER A CHOICE-- AND TOO MANY  "IF" S IN A ROW CAN REALLY SCREW THINGS  UP.

CARLENEI hope you made it through the day with the auditors. I’m sure it wasn’t easy.

Ava continues to be a star, except for some diarrhea today after two days of good poos. She managed to eat a hole in a plush toy and it was evident that she had ingested it. So, even though she is supposed to be okay with cloth toys, no more for this pup. Back to rice and kibbles tonight. She’s acting just fine.

Ava and I certainly don’t need the guest house to bond. Not only has she bonded with me, she and the cat have become best buddies.

Nother day , nother dollar ----trying to type this in  “word"   and paste it in the daily doggie…

My sleuthing had got me no where…

 maybe there is a cp somewhere  --- look at that line--- typical-- size of print changed  in the midddle of a word..  MAybe   and i did nothing to make that  happen...

I now have a very nice laptop which I opened myself and carefully entered my name.. email and password… it wasn’t long after that , that it wanted another email— and a pin--- which it said would be quicker at something.  I quit there…

 

Coming back to this computer… I find I have at least 4 email addresses…which is why it keeps telling me my name is not carlene

And unfortunately sometimes contained messages I wish I had received in a timely fashison..

I tried to call “mac” and they diddled and said I had 781 bugs— which they could fix for$350 ----I believe the bugs… in spite of the bug preventing stuff that is supposed to be on this….    so my next plan is to physical take this thing to the mac store … and stand there until they figure out how to make it better.  They have a genius counter—well I plan to stand in the middle like a dummy and say “ screw the details….just make it work”

I met with the wood clearing crew…  he thought a full crew for ½ day could clean up the mess.--- including pull stumps…we are going to have to do something about the footing..

It is to be a parking lot… and I have a feeling the topsoil is going to give us trouble--- it is forest floor  for hundred years… literally

TODAY US ANOTHER  "BIG CHUNK" DAY---BIG CHUNK MEANING I HAVE  TO MAKE A DECISION ABOUT  HIRING SOMEONE TO DO SOMETHING WHICH WILL SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECT US, PLUS COST A BIG CHUNK OF MONEY...

RYAN HAS CUT ALOT OF TH E SMALLER TREES BEHIND THE ARENA---WHICH MADE A BIG PILE OF "BRUSH" -- IMPOSSIBLE TO GO FURTHER WITHOUT MASSIIVE HELP.. LIKE A COMMERCIAL CHIPPER--AND WHILE THEY ARE HERE , IF THEY WOULD DROP TEH REMAINING TREESS ABOUT 6" DIAMETER... RYAN TRIED ONE YESTERDAY AND IT GRABBED THE SAW--- WITH FEAR... I CAREFULLY PUSHED IT OVER WITH THE TRACTOR..... THAT DID IT...THE PROFESSIONALS CAN DO THE REST...

IT WILL BECOME OUR PARKING LOT----ALSO TO BE RIDDEN ON BY JANINE.

AND  MORE DONKEYS HAVE ARRIVED-- ACTUALLY 2 DONKEYS AND A FAT PONY.... I DON'T THINK THE PONY IS A MINI HORSE... JUST A SMALL PONY... THE DONKEYS ARE PATHETICALLY THIN AND IN NEED OF SOME GROCERIES...  YOU HAVE TO GO PRETTY FAR TO STARVE A DONKEY----  THEY ARE SUCH   EASY KEEPERS... IT LOOKED LIKE ONE OF THOSE CASES  WHERE THEY HAVE TO BE HEALTHY TO HAVE SURVIVED IN THAT CONDITION.

I CAN REMEMBERWHEN A BG OF HORSE FOOD WAS $5.76 A BAG OF 50 POUNDS  --NOW IT IS $16.78 FOR 37 POUNDS.... NO WONDER HORSE PEOPLE HAVE TROUBLE...YET DONKEYS NEED SO LITTLE GRAIN..

AND SEE IF WE CAN GET SOME PRIVACY FOR OUR EXPECTANT MOTHER.  MY INSTINCT IS TO THROW THE NON PREGOS  OUT- LEAVING THEM IN THE PASTURE WITH HAY AND WATER-- THEY ARE WILD ANIMALS YOU KNOW... AND SPRING IS NEARLY HERE...  THEN MOM CAN HAVE THE STALL TIL TEH BABY CAN FOLLOW HER WELL -- LIKE A WEEK...

IT IS10 FEET  FROM KENNEL 10-- SOMETIMES IN STALLING WIRESS, HEY LEAVVE A LOOP.. MAYBE WE COULD GET TEH CAMERA OVER THERE?????  JOYCE???????

JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU AN UPDATE ON MY SWEET GIRL LYDIA. :~) 

SHE IS DOING VERY WELL. SHE HAD HER 3 YEAR CHECK UP WITH THE VET WHICH THE VET IS VERY HAPPY WITH HER AND GAVE HER A STELLAR REPORT! 

WE HAD A NOT SO ACTIVE WINTER, WITH SEVERAL NEW DOCTORS AND APPTS. AND OF COURSE, LYDIA IS AS AMAZING AS EVER! SHE HAS MANY NEW FANS! WE ARE NOW GETTING OUT AND ABOUT MORE WITH SPRING IN THE AIR, AND FEELS SO GOOD! 

KEEP YOUR EYE OUT FOR THE NY TIMES AS I WAS INTERVIEWED REGARDING THE WATER CRISIS INVOLVING PFOA SHOWING UP IN WELLS IN NORTH BENNINGTON VT. I USED TO WORK FOR THE COMPANY THEY ARE SAYING WAS RESPONSIBLE, SO I WAS INTERVIEWED OVER THE PHONE. THEY SENT A PHOTOGRAPHER  TO MY HOME TODAY TO TAKE PICTURES OF LYDIA AND I FOR THE ARTICLE. HE SAID IT WILL BE IN THE NY TIMES WITH IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS, MAYBE EVEN TOMORROW, SO JUST WANTED TO GIVE YOU A HEADS UP..

How are you and LARS doing? GREAT!

Is he/she fulfilling your needs? YES, HE'S PERFECT! HE GOES TO WORK WITH JOHN AND DOES GREAT.

How is  overall behaviour (following commands, interaction with people/animals, recall)? GOOD, HE KNOWS WHEN THE VEST IS ON ITS TIME TO WORK. 

BEHAVIOUR PROBLEMS ARE WITH PEOPLE, NOT WITH LARS. JOHN AND HIS FAMILY HAD A HARD TIME AT SALSBURY BEACH LAST SUMMER. THEY WERE QUITE THE SPECTACLE. 

Do you need to come back to the farm for additional training? NO.

When is the last time  was at the Vet? LAST WEEK AFTER SEIZURE. RAN BLOODWORK AND TOXICOLOGY AND ALL IS FINE INCLUDING GLANDS AND HIPS.

Any known health issues? Weight? NONE OTHER THEN THE ONE SEIZURE. JOHN SAID HE IS A GOOD WEIGHT AND GETS LOTS OF EXERCISE ON THEIR ONE ACRE OF LAND.

Do you know if LARS has been microchipped? YES.

Are you doing any community service? JOHN AND LARS HELP WITH THE CUB AND BOY SCOUTS.

Do you know when your certification expires? JUNE

When can we schedule you to come back to the farm? JOHN HOPES TO VISIT IN THE NEXT WEEK OR TWO ON A TUESDAY OR WEDNESDAY. HE WILL CALL AND GIVE MEGAN A HEADS UP.

THIS MACHINE DOES HAVE SOME BUG--I CAN SIT AND TYPE IDENTICAL THINGS IN  BOTH COMPUTERS AND GET A TOTALLY DIFFERENT REACTION.

GOOGLE MA[PS-- TRYING TO LOCATE AN ADDRESS, WOULD NOT LET ME ENTER THE ADDRESS.... JUST ZOOM ON ANYWHERE---  WHICH DID NOT HELP

WORST CASE IS  THE TOP PART OF AN EMAIL GOT SQUISHED OFF THE SCREEN- AND I ALMOST ANSWERED THAT EMAIL BASED ON THE BOTTOM  OF TEH EMAIL ONLY...WHICH WOULD HAVE AFFECTED A DOG BADLY... SO I CAME APART AND WENT TO COSTCO  AND BOUGHT A LAPTOP THING ..... ONTO WHICH I WILL DOWNLOAD NOTHING,

MOST ANNOYING IS I CAN NOT MAKE IT SCREW UP-- SO THEREFORE I CAN NOT FIGURE OUT WHY...   DRIVING ME NUTS..  WORSE...
