JULY  7,2014
ZEROS KEEP GETTING ADDED TO MY EXPECTATIONS---
LONG AGO-- VERY LONG AGO  20 CENTS WAS ALOT--- IT BOUGHT   A PACK OF CIGARETTES FROM A VENDING MACHINE ( FOR  OLDER MY SISTER)  AND THAT PACK HAD 2 PENNIES INSIDE THE WRAPPING  WHICH I WOULD RUN OFF WITH

THEN IN COLLEGE IF YOU HAD   $2.00   YOU WERE  WEALTHY.. IT WOULD DO 2 WEEKS  LAUNDRY IN THE 25 CENT MACHINES.

THEN WHEN MY KIDS WERE YOUNG  THE ATM MACHINES MADE $20.00 THE CURRENCY OF THE DAY... AND YOUNG CHILDREN OFTEN HAD A $20 BILL FROM JUST SUCH MACHINES.

.AS THEY WENT TO COLLEGE, I REMEMBER A REQUEST FOR $200.00 FOR  THINGS LIKE A BUNCH OF BOOKS,
THEY GRADUATE AND TALK ABOUT MORTGAGES IN THE $2000.00 RANGE.
AND HERE WE ARE WITH RUNNING THIS PLACE WHERE ANOTHER  ZERO HAS BEEN ADDED TO MY FRAME OF REFERENCE...DRY WELLS -- TRACTORS-- VET BILLS--- FEED.

AND I STILL REMEMBER  TAKING THOSE 2 PENNIES FROM HER CIGGIE PACKS.
*****************
THERE  WAS A COMMENT FROM A VET IN UTAH...  NEEDING A DOG...  I WISH WE COULD HELP EVERYONE-- BUT WE CAN NOT.  SO I ANSWERED HIM WITH THIS..
****

HMMMMMMM.. YOU CERTAINLY HAVE A BUNCH OF PROBLEMS... THE WORST AS FAR AS WE ARE CONCERNED IS UTAH...THE ONLY  SOLUTION I CAN THINK OF IS TO FIND SOME FRIEND WHO HAS A WELL TRAINED DOG-- (THAT PREFERABLY THEY TRAINED THEMSELVES)--  AND WITH THEM GET IN TOUCH WITH SOME DANE RESCUE GROUP AND TRY AND FIND A DANE 2 OR 3 YEARS OLD-- OVER THE PUPPY STAGE...80% OF WHAT WE "TEACH " A DANE , THEY DO INSTINCTIVELY... SOUNDS LIKE YOU DON'T NEED THE FANCY TRAINING WE DO FOR THINGS LIKE AIRLINE TRAVEL--- AS LONG AS IT IS WELL BEHAVED, TELL EVERYONE IT IS A SERVICE DOG- AND BEING A VET THEY WOULD PROBABLY NOT ARGUE WITH YOU..  IF THAT BECOMES A PROBLEM I WOULD GO SO FAR AS TO TELL YOU TO MAKE A VIDEO OF THE DOG DOING THE ADI PUBLIC ACCESS TEST.  AND  I MIGHT BE ABLE TO GO TO BATTLE FOR YOU...
IT CERTAINLY IS BETTER THAN NOTHING...

IF HE CAN FIND A DOG,---THANKS TO THE FUN FUND. ---WE COULD EVEN SHIP MEGAN OUT TO UTAH  TO RUN THE ADI TEST ... BUT WE ONLY HAVE A BUNCH OF GOOFY YOUNGER DOGS RIGHT NOW THAT  IF WE PAIR THEM NOW,  WE NEED TO KEEP LOCAL
*********
MEGAN IS VERY PORTABLE-- SHE LOVES TO FLY....
****
PUPS ARE OUT OF THE HOUSE-- SO CAMERA ACTION WILL BE THE ARENA  PUPPY HILL AND ROOM.

WE ARE TESTING THE SHAPES OF THE "STALLS"  ON THE ARENA CAM--  SO FAR IT LOOKS LIKE  4 X 12' KENNELS WITH A 4X4 "SLEEPING LOFT"   AND A DOOR TO THE OUTSIDE.4 X 8 .THE INSIDE WILL BE IN THE HEATED AND A/C AREA..

AND SO IT GOES....

JULY 6 2014
WOW --- JOANNA STAYED up Last night til 3 putting together some short videos-- DID A WONDERFUL JOB..  A FEW PROBLEMS TO RESOLVE BUT A FAR MORE INCLUSIVE  , BIGGER JOB THAN I HAVE SEEN BEFORE

SO SHE SAID SHE WOULD SLEEP LATE
I SUPPOSE AN ALLOWANCE COULD BE MADE.....

THERE HAS BEEN A RULE AROUND HERE-- ESPECIALLY AS MY KIDS - AND FRIENDS FOUND A TEMP HOME IN THE GUEST HOUSE... THAT WE WERE TO BE UP AT 7 AM-- I DIDN'T CARE WHO DRANK WHAT THE NIGHT BEFORE... AND EVEN IF  YOU COULD ONLY LEAN ON THE NEAREST TREE IN THE POURING RAIN... Y0U WERE TO BE UP ON YOUR FEET.  7 AM.

MARIE IS DOING WONDERFULLY WITH HER NEW DOG.. SHE EVEN DID THE SUPERMARKET BY HERSELF YESTERDAY... ..

THIS SUNDAY WILL BE SHATUPON.. WE EVEN HAVE THE NUMBERS READY--  THE T TENT IS IN DIRE NEED OF AN UP-FIXING... EARLENE IS DUE HERE SOON..  HER SPECIALITY  ALONG WITH PUPPY SITTING.

ARTHUR CERTAINLY DID A JOB ON THE 4TH OF JULY CELEBRATIONS
IT POURED HERE... I AM REMINDED OF THE STANLEY HALLOWAY POEM ABOUT NOAH ARGUING WITH A LUMBER PERSON ABOUT  THE PRICE OF "SOME NICE BIRDSEYE MAPLE TO PANNEL THE SIDE OF HIS BUNK"   THEY ARE STILL ARGUING ABOUT A HA'PENNY TOO MUCH AS THEY ARE STANDING IN WATER UP TO THEIR NECKS. HE HAD SOME GOOD MONOLOGUES.. "ALBERT AND THE LION"   BEING ONE OF HIS BEST...

I THINK THIS IS THE FIRST YEAR OF VERY MANY I HAVE NOT HAD A 4TH OF JULY PARADE TO DO..  HISTORICALLY-- WITH THE 8 DONKEY HITCH-- THEN THE DOG BED-- AND MARY...   OFTEN WITH REX TRAILER-- HE RODE A HORSE OF MINE IN PARADES FOR YEARS...
MANY A COLLEGE TUITION WAS PAID FOR THAT WAY.
THE PASSING OF AN ERA,

SO ON WITH THE NEXT---

IT WOULD BE NICE IF WE GET BUDDY OUT TO GRAZE TODAY ON A LEAD..  I THINK WE SHOULD START HIM IN A ROUTINE OF WANDERING WITH A DONKEY SITTER  AND SEE IF HE CAN DEVELOPE HIS OWN PERSONALITY AS MARY DID.

SPEAKING OF PASSING ERAS....
WE HAVE AN APPLICANT WHO SENT IN HIS NEUROLOGICAL REPORT... IT IS LONG... 2 PAGES---I AM HAVING A REAL PROBLEM WITH THE CONCEPT... 3/4 OF IT IS LISTING  EVERYTHING THAT IS NORMAL--- AND HE HAS A NUMB FOOT.
EXCEPT IN TODAY'S LINGO ... HE HAS XHIHKASJDBQIOFH;   OF THE KDKWRQLEMJBWS  AND THEREFORE CAN NOT WORK AND GETS 100% SSI...
SO HIS HEAD IS STUCK ON THIS NUMB FOOT AND HE IS DEPRIVED OF THE PRIVILEGE OF WORKING FOR A LIVING  AND THEREFORE IS DEPRESSED.

SOMEHOW OUR SYSTEM IS NOT SET UP TO MOVE ON AND GET SOME OTHER IDEA..

IF SOMEONE CAN DRIVE-- AND DOES THEIR OWN SHOPPING, HOW ABOUT SHOPPING FOR THAT LITTLE OLD LADY NEXT DOOR.... OR BETTER YET...  TAKE HER WITH YOU...

AS I BECOME THAT LITTLE OLD LADY  IT BECOMES A BETTER AND BETTER IDEA.

PUPS ARE OUT
WALTER IS NOT HERE
I BETTER GET BENTLEY OUT

AND IF I DRIVE THE GOLF CART FAST ENOUGH, I WILL NOT NEED A HAIR DRYER.

JULY 5 2014
we survived the rain.. it came down  the easy way..

funny story of the day..joann is here - a potential recipient-  and since marie was int he guest house with  her dog, she ended up here int he house... she said she wanted to sleep with opal-- who could not go up the spsiral stairs-- and that is the last i knew about it untili got up at midnight -- there was an interesting lump next to  opal -- i did not see how a person could be folded into that shape- but what do i know.. so i made myself some coffee .. at which time  joanne  appeared  from upstairs ready to bed down on the big barker bed with opal--   i was certainly Glad she did not sleep in that peculiar lump shape.

now on the topic of insuation---

now that we have heat in the kennels-- and duct work going thru the loft.... i am thinking i should do something about the  hay loft  ceiling and get it cleaned up... it is july
haveing regular insulation is just not going to work-- too difficult to put up -- hiring a crew wold take months-- there is an agricultural insulation   sort of bubble wrap in tinfoil  which is  not the same as the r19 fiberglass- but better than nothing and comes in 150 foot rolls  the hay loft is 75 x 35 so the roof is probably 75 x 20 x 2  use that and add tyvek ( with the plain white side showing.....)  couple staple guns and we could be done in 4 hours...  then do real insulation over the kennels downstairs.

if anyone can  come up with a logical reason of why not.. squeeek up.... or  i will order it monday from farmtek..   http://www.farmtek.com/farm/supplies/prod1;;pg101382_101382A.html

annie organized   excell to get a few donors to send chips to.. with hopes they share them....  marc said he could make us more-- i guess it is barbara that actually makes them--- ( on some machine that costs  millions of dollars...)

ready to take another great leap forward.... with the floor on the nutt house..
( and get these pups on their way---  i think we have a litter due  first week of august...  we have not had a chance to do an ultrasound because she lives up in new hampshire.. so we  HOPE  we have a litter due...)

i have been challenged-- at mail call tonight... colleen and tracy-- who are both word search experts want me -- because of my creative spelling abiities..---to do one on camera-- it seems only fitting that they do a sudoko at the same time....

i am no suduko expert, but i use the rated sudoko puzzles to judge if those allergy pills are affecting my ability to think logically..

i will be coughing today because  i don't dare take a pill
****
that does not explain why i had so much trouble trying to take a bath this morning...

i have a big bath tub--- remember the episode of my old friend shiela taking me around to bathtub stores and having me get in them to try them...
with difficulty someone installed it,......i was too cheap to do the proper plumbing - so i have one of those hand held shower things-- but when the spray is shut off it does not gush out the  bathtub inlet.
so i fill the tub one teaspoon at a time..
used to be  you put a stopper in the outlet and simply filled the tub.
no simple stopper any more-- this tub has a gasket sort of deal where one click empties the tub and 2 clicks fills it... in theory-- and it empties the tub v e r y   slowly-- so there are times  when i am not sure if i am on a one click or two... because it does get stuck at 1.5 and you have to listen for the noise in the overflow hole..          so i left it filling... very slowly.

and got the stuff i bought at costco yesterday  a spray vasoline- recommended by the dermotologist.
3 to a pack--- well i tried to figure out how to get the stuff out of the bottle--to no avail-- so i gave earlene a bottle and we both tried to figure out how to open it. probalby 15 minutes of both of  us...  i started to call their 800 number when earlene pushed something and got sprayed with it...

that is not the end of my proiblem with the moisturing spray...
while my tub was dribbling in, i read the directions-- "lightly spray the rub into the creases"
not too difficult.

out of the tub-- quick dry off and spray once and rub.... now there is no way  i can depress the spray button again with this vasoline goop all over the hand that rubbed.

the person who designed this spray probably makes $200,000 per year--  they need to hire me to see if i can work these things   with all of my preconceived notions of how things ought to work.

having been challanged by both the bathtub and spray bottle, the  IQ test with colleen and tracy is not looking good.
******
but the camera and sound are working pretty well...  i think i am waiting for a piece of "stuff"  to replace the thing in the t tent.and we did have over 500 people watching last night...  it was pretty funny

tracy knew that these packing peanuts were some kind of corn-- and proceeded to eat them-- which shocked me-- she also knew you could spit on them and stick them together....  where she gets her info i do not know...  but it worked...
*********
it was hot--   the barn is now a/c  i was told it was working fine..  the mister was working too .

*****
we need the rain  and you can not clip a wet donkey--- so that project is on hold...
******
i hope a bunch of people show even if the rest of the country considers it a holiday... the dogs need the usual...
**********
i may get a bunch of wood and start the new kennels ... if i can whack together a prototype maybe someone else could take over...
it would be cooler than any outdoor project-- and it is supposed to pour..

it could be on the arena camera if they spin it around...

( i have a new mouse----i had a preconceived notion about the computer... when it was just the mouse..)

july 3 2014
camera is nearly working---i am not 100% sure  -- but i think  it was equipment failure getting from t tent to the house. tim jerry rigged it from barn to th ehouse which i believe is not perfect because when they first installed it...puppy hill is in the way.  i think there is new equipment for the t tent on the way-- those people watching the puppy hill camera might see steve on the roof replacing it ... if we get it today...

enjoy the cut and paste--- i will now clean my desk--

ONE OF KARMA’S BEST FEATURES IS HER SMILE POWER.
SHE BRINGS JOY TO JIM & OTHERS WITH HER QUIRKY “DANE” WAYS, & THAT LOOK OF “SO, WHAT’S YOUR PROBLEM?”
HERE SHE IS TONIGHT, RIDING OUT A NH THUNDERSTORM AT OUR FISHING CAMP.
NOTICE THAT SHE DOESN’T FIT IN THE BATHROOM.
SHE’S ALSO WEARING HER THUNDERSHIRT, WHICH SHE LOVES.
ONE TIME I FOUND HER IN THE SHOWER STALL, PEAKING OUT.
SHE SURE DOES BRING A SMILE TO OUR FACES; SHE’S A FUNNY GIRL!

IF I THINK OF ANY MORE I'LL SEND THEM IN!
CHOP SHOP!!!
We've been here about a month and things are going great! Lola has met 4 new puppy friends down the street and plays with them often. They run run run and Lola is the fastest of them all. She is so spoiled there that when she is done with playtime, our friends open the door and lay a dog bed down so Lola can come and go as she pleases in and out of the cool AC. Lola still hasn't learned that it's OK for us to be in the pool. She runs from side to side and tries to paw us out of the pool. But as soon as I go near the stairs she is right there to help me out. The sidewalks here are so much wider and easier for us to navigate. Lola still loves to stop and smell the flowers, often, which is a nice break for me. Her newfound love is lizards, they fascinate her. She loves to watch them scurry around. She will turn and look at me as if to say "did you just see that"! We've noticed not many people are aware of a balance dog, even my doctors. Several have asked me what I use to get around. When I tell them Lola is my 2nd set of legs they're really impressed and amazed! We recently visited an outdoor, dog friendly pub and Lola was doing wonderful with all the dogs roaming about....until another Great Dane came in. She was so excited to see what she considered a "familiar face"! It took her a few corrections to remind her we were not at the farm and she was still "working". She let out a big huff and went back to her down/stay position. The house has so much more room than our last one but Lola still makes sure she's no longer than an arm length from me, even when relaxing and watching tv!
We hope all is well with you and all of the staff and volunteers! Can't wait to
see everyone is September!

Love Michelle, Melanie and Lola

july 2 2014
it is too soon in the day for  this fool machine to tell me my name is not what i have thought  it was for 76 years..
all i wanted to do was to sign up for some fancy ups service which would email me when a package was delivered...  sounded simple-- but it did not like the fact that i was born in 1937--  and then it just crashed and said  it could not tell who i was...

i was taken back by the   "which of these 4 people have lived at your address?"  (janine was one)  that question speaks volumes
***********************************************
the camera.... apparently  it has the attention of everyone at explore-- and they swear it will be fixed by mail call today..  i plan to be available all afternoon to push buttons, connect wires, and pray..
i do have a dr. apt this morning... but they are pacific time-- i think... unless they are in africa somewhere.
**********
i have  one stedman in the house ... and he will not be put with the rest unless someone babysits him... the other 3 ganged up on him... a nasty thing dogs sometimes do--- particularly as teen agers

i think it is related to teenage  people types bullying--  there is a natural animal instinct-- in the animal world it is survival- most often cured by spay/neuter --- now do you really want to know how i would cure it in the people world????

that and wars over religion- there is little long term hope for humanity.

count up how many people have been killed over arguing how many angels would fit  on  the head of a pin... and tell me i am wrong.
**************
now that i have alienated just about everyone...
************
i didn't start copying all the suggestions  until yesterday... but there have been some beauts..  keep the ideas coming..
************

My suggestion for naming the house is “The Chippery”.
RoseDoggy "Meat House"
"BENTLEY'S MEAT HOUSE"

Debbie Randolph Hansen The Chippery

Cynthia Mayeaux the motto could be..."No Bones About It"

Cynthia Mayeaux Or how about something big city and high falutin'"The Chop House"

Susan Frith Woods I still like the tanning bed idea.....IRS is accusing them of having one, why not really confuse them.

Cynthia Mayeaux "The Shred Shed"

Ila Steutermann  the Butcher Shop.

Karen Paquet Hmmm the Batt House
HI CARLENE..ME AGAIN. HOW ABOUT NAMING THE BUILDING AFTER THE RESTAURANT THAT IS
KIND ENOUGH TO DONATE ALL THE MEAT. THE WHATEVER ANNEX. YOU COULD HAVE AN
UNVEILING OF THE PLAQUE AND A RIBBON CUTTING CEREMONY. SOUND LIKE A GOOD EXCUSE
FOR A PARTY.
***********
love the party idea-- any excuse is better than none.
today i will do all the things i said i would do yesterday.... like clean my desk...  maybe
]and if we ever get the camera straightened out, you will all be able to tell.....

i think if they still have problems we can do mail call in the puppy room-- that will be fun-- no sound-- but the picture is good

july 1,2014
new years resolution... why are they for january alone...i was going to keep a clean desk to celebrate june--- and we all see how that went.... not even the pixalating can hide thie mess...

however.... one of the cp's "wondered" about any fluctuating of the current in the house causing the problem...  so today i checked  our magic numbers are 32 and 12  as opposed to yesterday  1.1 and 2.3  and the picture is lovely.. just for educational purposes i will test the mic with puppy noises  ..

molly reports noises  so it must be a "go".

i was all set to try plugging the camera into the generator and see if that cleared the problem... but right now.. it ain't broke.

i remember the guy who wired this house drank heavily-- consequently the switch for the porch is in the upstairs bathroom ....that was a minor problem----   the exciting part was----we burned up a dishwasher and a garbage disposal because he had 220  into 110 kind of circuit..
being new in town i was unaware of the politics of "inspectors"  and reported the  problem to the building inspector... who said he could not do anything about it....
this is the man who 25 years later refused to give me a building permit for the arena  because "you are out of your league, you are only a woman" causing me to spend $27,000 having soil compression tests before putting up a building which would be more  inclined to lift UP in a stiff wind.

so not expect me to forget that one...  i have been busy, but i wonder how many building permits involved  soil compression testing in the last 25 years.

and i think the entire building arrived in 3 tractor trailers.... and the roadway did not buckle..1
one of my neighbors bailed me out of that one by buying an easement over about an acre of my property.

********
the new stalls are coming along... david seems to be doing whatever .. and  we went to the the rental guy at home depot so he would not think we stole his floor cleaner.-- and we have one more floor to do.  the nutt house.
*****
it is nice to have a goal of the day... today i will try and clip buddy's face and trim up the rest of him----i did buy some powder just in case--- but i have seen no  evidence of lice.

other  than that... try and figure out a very strange entry in the quicken accounting program....  ( a deposit.. entered as split-- then added the total amt   balance  also to the income figure-- well to be technically correct... it added almost the total of the split items  -- which makes it even harder to figure out.... raises he// with reconciling with the bank tho)  colleen is due here tonight to  work on numbers and i thought it would be nice to present her with a starting point.

by the looks of things....that ain't gonna happen-
