i don't know who to thank for the super anonymous  donation -- i had already  gone ahead with several "improvements" we really need--   knowing we could squeek thru with careful planning... but this donation makes me alot less worried about finances...

to be exact--- here is the budget of late....

 the major construction which with all the foundations and dry wells will be 40k

chain link-- materials only 6k  

-beef project freezer/cutting room  10k  

fence repair --materials only  $4k

hay loft without home depot... materials only  --$4k

if we can get all that done by  the retreat camera people-- we will really look super.

we can start all those things-- and can peg along... but i hope if/when the cp's come they can finish up whatever

plug in a $4k  weekly payroll

about $6k expected vet bills for spay and neuter.

on the topic of  camera people coming to visit/stay/help...  we di d just have a request-- i wish i could say "yes"  but it involved having to go pick someone up at the airport etc-- and  we just can not.  we are a very busy place-- and to try and schedule a "quick trip" to the airport is out of the question...  there are times we might be able to do that--- but generic answer is no... you must be self sufficient.

and please read the comments of folk who have been here--- this is a lively place-- at times stressed--- and we certainly appreciate all the help we can get... and if you get here to help and break a leg ( as did happen with ginger)  we can certainly deal--- but let there be no mistake  you are here to participate-- and that means work.

i would like everyong to be reminded-- these maill calls are all done cold sober...in spite of what they look like.

i had a very enjoyable mall call last night---  for all the times sheila has dolled me up in some outrageous outfit---- i got paid back yesterday as we wedged her into a barrel--- to point out that she is still without a proper house---- it got even better as she tried to sit on a stool and the stool got wedged between her and the barrell... we don't practice these things ahead of time... we are too busy-- but we are getting very good at dealing with the unexpected  live/online.... as tracy crawled around on her hands and knees trying to dislodge the stool.

i am left with one more thing to hang from the rafters.... the barrell.

thus illustrating why we need to clean upp the hay loft and get the craft's department  storage properly set up.   that is a nice barrell-- 

i actually had one like it before-- maybe i still have it-- it was from some movie set i was on-- can't rememeber which one--  some actor wore it-- with leather straps over his shoulders--- but they were going to throw it out-- so i grabbed it---- i think it got crushed when teh arena fell in the blizzard... 

at any rate i now have another-- and i am sure you will see it again...

ON WITH THE LEARNING EVERY DAY--- 

APPARENTLY THERE IS A KAYAKING CLUB FOR VETERANS.. AND TEHY DO TAKE THIER SERVICE DOGS BUT LEAVE THEM ON SHORE...

 CP --KATIJ -- LOVADOG  IS HERE FOR A FEW DAYS ... SO THAT IS WHO YOU ARE SEEING ONLINE.  LOVE THAT SOUTHERN ACCENT...

WE .... EXPECT.. 2 TEENAGERS TO BE HERE TODAY FOR 5 HOURS/DAY .. 25 HOURS A WEEK AS PART OF THEIR  SENIOR  IN HIGHSCHOOL..

 I  NEVER GOT  OUT OF SCHOOL FOR 5 DAYS A WEEK TO GO PLAY WITH DOGS...I HAD TOSIT IN SCHOOL AND TRY AND LEARN LATIN--   I TOOK THAT  BECAUSE MY MOTHER TOLD ME IT WOULD HLEP WITH VOCABULARY AND SPELLING....

AND YOU ALL KNOW ABOUT MY SPELLING LIFE.  -- THE VOCABULARY WAS REALLY  A DEAD END TOO.  THAT THEORY ASSUMES YOU LEARN SOME LATIN IN THE FIRST PLACE.

I NEVER GOT TO THE POINT THAT EDUCATION WAS EXCITING AND FUN-- AND SITTING STILL FOR 45 MINUTES OUT OF EVERY HOUR WAS PAINFUL ENOUGH.... SO HOW THESE 2 GIRLS MANAGED TO GET OUT OF SCHOOL FOR AN ENTIRE MONTH IS BEYOND ME. !!

I ALSO THINK THEY HAVE YET TO DISCOVER THAT BIG THINGS ARE MADE OF TINY DETAILS-- SOME OF WHICH ARE BORING, DISTASTEFUL OR.. FRIGHTENING.  .

THAT IS WHAT I DID FOR THE RETREAT-- I HAVE 2  COMPETENT CHILDREN-- GWEN IS NOT AS OFTEN ON CAMERA---BUT SHE IS 100% RELIABLE - I CAN CALL GWEN ANY HOUR OF THE DAY OR NIGHT AND ASK HER TO COME EAT LOBSTER WHILE SERVIING ANOTHER 99 PEOPLE. -- AND GWEN WILL BE HERE.----THAT IS NOT JANINIE'S SPECALITY-  CHAISING A LOOSE HORSE DOWN RT 97  AT 4AM IS MORE HER EXPERTISE,

WE HAD AN APPLICANT- ONE OF HER QUESTIONS-- AND IT SEEMED TO BE A SERIOUS ONE-- WAS -- WOULD ONE OF OUR SERVICE DOGS RIDE IN HER KAYAK.-- ?

THAT IS A QUESTION I WOULD HAVE EXPECTED FROM BILL HUBER( CALENDAR PHOTOGRAPHER) ABOUT .....COULD WE SET UP???---- AND POSSIBLY WE COULD--  WE ARE THINKING OF A CANOE--- AT THE FAIRGROUNDS WHERE THERE IS ABOUT A 4 ACRE PUDDLE ABOUT 6" DEEP...  BUT FOR An applicant???? it is a different story.

 we have some serious work to do today---  THE SPOON FEEDING OF THE 4 PUPS HAS GOT TO GET ORGANIZED...  THAT DERBY RACE WAS CUTE--- BUT WE SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE HOMEWORK LIKE HAVING THEM CONCENTRATE ON THE NOISE OF THE SPOON AND CAN...  THEY GOT A LITTLE MORE  SCARED THAN I LIKE TO SEE...  SO NEW ROUTINE FOR THEM IS TO PLOP THEM IN THE OFFICE AND SIT AT MY DESK WITH THE CAN AND SPOON... IT WILL PROBABLY AKE 20 MINUTES--  THEY ARE CERTAINLY FOOD ORIENTED.

AND GET READY FOR BULLDOZER TYPE STUFF TOMORROW...

YOU KNOW YOU ARE GETTING OLD WHEN YOUR CHILDREN GET ADS FOR AARP(  FOR THE FOREIGN FOLK....THE "RP" PART IS RETIRED PEOPLE) .... AND THEY BEGIN TO COMPLAIN ABOUT BENDING OVER...MY OLDEST DAUGHTER NOTICED/ ADMIRED  OUR COUNTER HIGH RESTAURANT TYPE OVEN--- WHICH I  CAN ACTUALLY USE...-- AND COMPLAINED ABOUT GETTING STUFF OUT OF HER BROILER ON HER HANDS AND KNEES...-- SHE CAN STILL USE IT--- ANOTHE R  COUPLE YEARS SHE WILL DECIDE BROILING IS A BAD WAY TO COOK THINGS  THUS ELIMINATING THE BENDING PART OF COOKING.

STARTED ME THINKING......IF I WAS TO DESIGN A KITCHEN----- WHAT APPLIANCES COULD I HAVE KNEE HIGH UNDER THE COUNTER...--- I DECIDED A STOVE WITH OVEN UNDERNEATH IS A TERRIBLE IDEA...  BUT MAYBE YOU COULD PUT A DISHWASHER UNDER  A STOVE TOP -- OR OVEN... THE " UNDER COUNTER"  SPACE IS TOTALLY WASTED ON ANYONE  OF AARP AGE.

SO THE WAY TO MAKE A MILLION DOLLARS IS TO INVEST IN THAT SPRING LOADED CANTILEVERED CONTRAPTION WHICH TAKES  A MIXER- OR SOMETHING FROM UNDEER THE COUNTER  AND SNAPS IT INTO PLACE COUNTER HIGH.

I NEED ABOUT 4 OF THOSE-- MAYBE THEN I COULD FIND A  SIMPLE PAN TO BOIL AN EGG..

I OWN SEVERAL WHICH RESIDE UNDER MY COOKTOP

UNFORTUNATELY-- AND THIS IS THE DIFFICULT PART.... MY 5 QUART SPAGETTI BOILING TYPE  PANS ARE SECRETLY REPRODUCING DOWN THERE... MAYBE IT IS THAT SOME OF OUR VOLUNTEERS HAVE DECIDED TO CLEAN OUT THIER KITCHEN AND HAVE STUFFED 937 OF TEH  THINGS UNDER MY STOVE.

I CAN GET NOTHING OUT  OF THAT AREA.

HOW SECLUDED IS IT???

IT IS SO SECLUDED THAT GIZELLE ONCE DECIDED IT WAS THE PERFECT PLACE  FOR HER AND HER FRIENDS TO LIVE-- THEY ESTABLISHED A COMMUTER LINE BY CHEWING THRU THE FLOOR SO THEY COULD GO THRU  A HOLE IN THE CELLAR AND MAKE A MAD DASH FOR THE WOODS WHICH ARE ABOUT 10 FEET FROM THIER  WINTER HOME UNDER MY STOVE

 IT IS TOO SMALL A HOLE FOR PANS TO FALL THRU IT-- BUT THE DRAFT BLOWS UP REMINDING ME TO STERILIZE ANY PAN I AM USING FROM THAT AREA.

IT IS LITTLE FACTS LIKE THAT , THAT MAKE RUNNING THIS PLACE SO DIFFICULT.

SIMPLE LIGHT OUT-- OR CAMERA OFF--- BECAUSE OF A BLOWN FUSE.  THE FUSE FOR ONE OF THE PARKING LOT POLES IS IN THE SHOP( THE RED BUILDING)  THE OTHER ONE IS WIRED OFF THE LAUNDRY ( THRU THE T TENT.) I KNOW THAT--- BUT IT IS ONE OF THOSE DETAILS...

MY PROBLEM TOMORROW-- AND THIS IS NOT FOR THE FAINT AT HEART-- JEFF PLANS TO REDO THE DRAINAGE BEHIND THE BARN BY DIGGING OUT THE TOPSOIL, CHANGING TEH PITCH... DOESN'T SOUND LIKE MUCH-- BUT... THAT WILL INVOLVE THE AREA BY THE MANURE PILE.......... WHEN YOU HAVE A BIG ANIMAL DIE IN THE  "DEAD OF WINTER"  AND YOU HAVE TO  GET THEM BURIED....  THE ONLY PLACE YOU CAN DIG  IS UNDER A MANURE PILE.  .. THE OTHER FACT I KNOW IS   10 YEARS IS NOT ENOUGH FOR THE VARIOUS WORMS WHATEVER TO  DISPOSE OF A 1000 POUND HUNK OF MEAT.  I WILL H OLD MY BREATH-- BECAUSE IF THEY HIT THAT 1000 POUND LUNCH COUNTER I WILL NEED MORE THAN BREATH HOLDING...

YOU CAN SEE APROXIMATELY THAT AREA IF THE PUPPY HILL CAMERA SWINGS AROUND 179 DEGREES.

BUT I HOPE OUR NORMAL CONTINGENT OF PUPPY MANAGERS WILL BE BACK ON DUTY AFTER VACATIONS ETC..  EARLENE HAS FINISHED TENDING TO HER SISTER'S CATS, MEGAN IS BACK FROM  THE WILDS OF THE CARIBBEAN- AND SHEILA'S TURTLE  ( HER HOME AWAY FROM HOME, ... AN RV) IS PARKED DOWN BY THE T TENT  AND MARIA GOT ONE CHILD COMMUNED YESTERDAY---  

ALL THE SUBS WORKED BEAUTIFULLY -- BUT  THE OPERATION NEEDS  TO BE BACK IN FULL SWING... ESPECIALLY WITH THE  CONSTRUCTION COMING   WHICH WILL UPSET THE ENTIRE APPLECART.

STEVE--- AS IN CHARLIE STEVE-- FINISHED  THE BABY CHICKS ACCOMODATION-- NOW IF I ORDER THEM ON THURSDAY OF THIS WEEK, WE SHOULD HAVE THEM BY WEDNESDAY OF THE FOLLOWING WEEK.  WE NEED A HEAT LAMP YET...( FOR THOSE OF YOU WANTING TO START YOUR OWN EGG FARM.... THE HEAT LAMP HAS TO BE OFF TO ONE SIDE OF THIER PEN SO THEY HAVE THE OPTION OF BEING UNDER IT  OR NOT...)  AND THEY ARE MESSY...  I START MINE ON "CHICK STARTER"  WHICH IS A MEDICATED FEED- FOR THE FIRST WEEK...   I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS WHAT THEY REFER TO WITH "RAISED ON ANTIBIOTICS"   -- I TRIED GOING STRAIGHT TO NON MEDICATED FOOD ONCE AND THEY ALL DIED..--I HAVE NO IDEA  WHAT THEY DIED OF-- SO  MINE GET STARTED ON  THE MEDICATED  BEFORE THEY GO TO NORMAL CHICKEN FOOD.(PLUS OF COURSE  KITCHEN SCRAPS)

CHICKENS WILL EAT ABOUT ANYYTHING--  I HAVE NO QUALMS ABOUT FEEDING THEM LEFT OVER BBQ CHICKEN----THEY WILL EAT EACH OTHER AT TIMES ANYWAY ....NASTY BUNCH...

it looks like 11  beautiful nursing pups don't know the sex of each.... it was a long day for tracy (horse tracy --- not costco tracy who is around here)   i kept hearing male harl-- so i know there are a bunch of those...

--the 12th   doa-- it happens --- as you all know by now-----you all have come such a long way in being involved in this process-- to loose one out of 12 is not unusual..

 2 years ago i would have  had 2 days worth of "what if... " and "why didn't...."  i remember the person who read the riot act to us and blamed a stillborn on the fact we used our cell phones in the room-- causing someone else to comment "that is because you didn't wash the phones first"..

so life is alot different now... no more calls at 2am about a bird in the barn. 

i don't mean to be unkind  but now if  you all question something and discuss it between a bunch of you-- and decide to call,  i pay attention and get up---(and send someone else to the barn to check)

speaking of the barn

as of tuesday a massive mess will start happening...

 you may only be able to see the process-- but the goal is to turn 2 horse stalls into 6  more dog "stalls"  which does not sound like much except in the process because of the massive run-off of water from the arena roof, we have to change the  flow so the water will then go in the direction of the flat field and not toward the t tent.

the camera in the arena may be able to see a piece of equipment  dealing with  the level of the floor--  the various trucks etc will (probably ) be labeled 

JMasterson-

you will be able to see the pad being poured for the freezer and meat cutting department... that will be down by the  laundry  building where we usually park the horse trailer...

and then there is the hay loft-- being redone --  into another  semi warm- play area/ craft shop for grace to store delores outfits...

2 sides of the barn have been power washed in prep for the purple.... but need to dry out

we are getting dressed up -- and about time too--- 

i have located the necessary rails for the fencing  as soon as i get a count on the number we need, i will get a stack delivered...

there will be plenty to do...--rail replacement is really a 2 person  per rail job...  they aint light.

and if that is not enough-- i had an email from janine-- she is bringing lincoln( her big black horse) home-- and somehow there is another horse i never heard of before who will be arriving also.. probably a rescue-- that she swears is  a quiet horse ayone can ride- so we would have a "guest horse"

what she means is she might be able to loan it to someone who wants to hunt with myopia hunt club-- but does not ride very well.  this is what crosby was---  A loaner.

sheila is down to plan C  since her husband fell and broke his knee..  i have offered her the guest house-- we have an ability  to keep  quite a number of "guests"  warm --dry-- and fed..

my only other news is-- i bought a new back brace---  in the form of too tight blue jeans...-- i know this to be true...it works better than  any other i have had...

SHE STILL IS IN BETTER SHAPE THAN THE PERSON I CALLED LAST N IGHT AT MAIL CALL-- SHE LOST 1/3 HER HOUSE - BLOWING AWAY IN THE WIND... I TOLD HER TO STAY IN TOUCH---  SHE SEEMED TO HAVE EVERYTHING UNDER CONTROL AND WAS TALKING TO CONTRACTORS

I REALLY DO NOT UNDERSTAND THIS WHOLE FEMA BIT... I WOULD LOVE TO "FOLLOW THE BUCK"-- WHO WRITES WHAT CHECK AND WHO CASHES  IT...

in an effort to look lke earlene -- i bought some strange hair things at walmart... language new to me-- hair spray i knew-- but i needed the glue stuff to glue in the curlers.  i bought something with the words lift and bounce-- after being totally confused by the  container, i pushed something and ended up  with mounds of whipped cream stuff all over my head,shoulders  and the wall. it then said blow dry-- so i did that.-- it said nothing about needing a sawzall to get the curlers out of my hair...

what was really amazing-- was that  the 3 cans of this misc  goo cost less than $10. even with mass production i do not understand how it got on walmart's shelf for that price-- whether it came from china or ohio---  2 pressurized cans and a tube of something...

i am told bob-- bubbles husband - who has thhaki- washed the front of the barn with the power washer-- now if we could dry that out-- we might get a purple front---  this will be a long project.

the other one-- i saw grace and bubb;les out counting fence sections----- i found a place who will deliver bundles for $10 each---  at 3 rails each and ? aprox-- uncounted total 150 sections it is the best part of $5000-- even if we do use old ones for the bottom rail-- plus/minus   we get a  $1,000 pile of firewood !!!

it is a perfect job for  the bank  volunteers-- i can see them now wandering all over the property carrying 11 foot rails.

IF YOU WANTED TO CALL ME,  THERE WAS NO DIAL WITH NUMBERS-- OR A PaD OF NUMBERS TO POKE AT....IN NEWBURGH NY,  YOU  JUST TOLD 1009  TO SOME NICE LADY ON  THE OTHER END OF THE "WIRE" AND SHE WOULD PULL UP A CABLE AND PLUG IT INTO THE WALL IN FRONT OF HER  AT WHICH TIME MY PHONE IN THE HOUSE WOULD RING.

IT WAS ON THE WALL-- EXACTLY WHERE IT WAS  KNOWN TO BE FOR YEARS-- AND YOU ANSWERED IT BY OUT -RACING YOUR SIBLINGS TO BE THE FIRST TO GET YOUR HANDS ON THE HANDLE..   SINCE IT WAS ON THE WALL BY THE STAIRS- ACCESS WAS FROM 2 ANGLES  -- IN THE HALL-- NORMAL LIKE  OR SIT ON THE STAIRS AND REACH THRU THE RAILINGS AND SNATCH...

PROGRESS HAS BEEN WONDERFUL-- 

NOW THE HOUSE PHONE RINGS AND THERE IS A MAD SCRAMBLE TO FIND UNDER WHILCH PILE OF PAPERS IT IS HIDING---- AND IT WILL CAREFULLY TELL YOU IF THE BATTERY IS DEAD... OR  IT IS IN USE BECAUSE SOME DOG HAS  PUSHED A BUTTON AS THEY CARRIED IT INTO THE YARD.... AT WHICH POINT YOU MUST FIND THE EXACT HANDSET CAUSING THAT PROBLEM BEFORE YOU CAN USE THE PHONE AT ALL.

AS FOR THE CELL-----I NOW HAVE ONE OF THE MOST MODERN...  

I JUST HAPPENED TO NOTICE THAT SINCE I GOT IT 3 WEEKS AGO, I HAVE ONLY HAD PHONE CALLS WHILE SITTING IN MY CAR.  IT TOOK A WHILE TO FIGURE THAT OUT..   ACTUALLY  ANN DID--  TURNS OUT THAT THIS MOST MODERN PHONE -- ENCASED WITH THE MOST MODERN PROTECTIVE CASE - MADE ESPECIALLY FOR THIS DEVICE, ...MADE THE VIBRATE/RING SELECTION  BUTTON INACCESSIBLE---- SINCE I RARELY HAVE  THE KIND OF CLOTHING  TO WEAR THIS PHONE,  I WAS UNABLE TO ANSWER ANY CELL CALLS TO ME FOR THE PAST 3 WEEKS.

AND GOING FORWARD IT DOES NOT LOOK PROMISING EITHER...

 FOR AN INSOMNIA PROJECT I STARTED TALKING TO SIRI-- WHO VERY NICELY READ ME  ABOUT 1/2 OF EACH EMAIL...  AND THEN SAID  "NO" AND QUIT.

I TRIED TO BUY THE ALBUM -- PHANTOM OF THE OPERA-- IT WOULD NOT LET ME...

 

THERE WAS A RED DOT SOMEWHERE - TELLING ME OF AN UPDATE-- 

I HAve seen megan push that update button  WITH  NO FEAR IN HER MIND..  

SO I DID THAT

NOW I HAVE A PHONE WITH A PICTURE OF AN APPLE IN THE MIDDLE-- NOTHING ELSE-

AND SIRI WON'T TALK TO ME EITHER...

I CAN NOT EVEN TURN IT OFF-- WITH EITHER BUTTON

SHORT OF TAKING THE BATTERY OUT -- I AM DONE.

HAVIG BEEN UP AT 2 AM COMPLAINING ABOUT THE PHONE, I HAVE  OVERSLEPT.

WITH A LONG LIST OF THINGS TO DO TODAY.. 

HOME DEPOT FOR MORE PAINT IS ONE OF THEM.
