FYI. Could be a life saver........ Since I've started the regular use of the wood stove which has operated perfectly for several hundred years or whatever ----everyone ---as in "people say"---- I should have fire extinguishers by it------ well if it's going to cause a fire I better have the fire extinguishers away from it but within range... And at service dog project we are supposed to have a fire extinguisher at every door so as you're about to run out the door... you can grab the fire extinguisher instead of running to where the fire is... so these fire extinguishers have been there a very long time.. but in the process of buying a new one for our new kitchen area.. I noticed the notice. the fire extinguishers ought to be replaced every 12 years.. and they are all dated on the bottom.. I would bet a nickel that every fire extinguisher on the property is more than 12 years old.. so now that's going to have to be somebody else's job the go check them all out
we do have people walk around and make sure the arrow is still in the green area... and date them on A tag... but there's 12 year lifespan ---was new to me... so the next person that comes up the driveway and says I would love to help but I'm afraid of dogs or something they can play with the fire extinguishers and I bet we're going to have to order them by the case.
Last time we had to use a fire extinguisher it worked very well... and I may have told this story before so I'll make it brief ------sort of. in the process of burning cardboard in the fireplace which you're really not supposed to do ----a spark had gone out and landed in the pine needles next to our skylight... I just happened to notice small fire up there... causing me to scream... which caused my husband to leave and go down the driveway looking for a call box... and got Janine out of the cabin.. clad in some of her very best Victoria's Secret clothing.. I grabbed the yellow wooden 8 foot ladder... which almost reached the 9 foot roof ledge. so I held that while Janine scrambled up and I handed her the fire extinguisher which was just inside the front door and she put the fire out---I should say fires out because there were several tiny little fires going in the pine needles. having put out the fires... she was left sliding around the roof in a brown foamy sort of stuff..... just as the fire department came up the driveway in answer to my husband's having pulled the fire alarm.
as I stood there with my 8 foot ladder try to get Janine off the. 9 foot roof.. four men dressed in monstrous black fireman's gear
offered to help... and one said. .” why can't we have more jobs like this”
so go check all your fire extinguishers--- and I am told they make little ones for carrying in your car... not a bad idea either.
