yesterdays peak efficiency-- (closely related to dumb luck) or never miss a chance to make a crowd laugh....
the equine rescue horses at meridith farm ate their last available bale of hay for breakfast on monday morning... just as you daily doggers donated enough $10 bales of hay for me to go get 2 loads..... 10:00am-----mark got judy and i hooked to the big dump trailer and we started up the highway to the hay delivery depot in salisbury. a truck is usually there early monday morn... as we drove we called to be sure....
well..... it should be there at noon ... ok time to kill?? not us... judy called a large nursing home between us and the hay.. the activities director was so delighted to hear from us.. she had 33 people circled in wheelchairs and was hard pressed for entertainment... we swooped in with the 3 dogs and quickly went into "anybody want to give the dogs a cookie?" routine.. that car comes equipped with fry pan and cookies... so judy was in. high gear...couple cookies each and the 3 dogs “worked the crowd for a few minutes then fell asleep flat on the floor while everyone asked a multitude of questions...40 minutes later we all ran for the front door to watch judy try and drive that trailer around obstacles in the parking area while i sat with the staff and had a good laugh.. she did not hit a thing --- but it was entertaining. it is a wide trailer. and she is a straight ahead trailer driver.
10 minutes later i backed it up to the hay truck for 87 bales in the first load....( i am the backer upper) -- to meridith....
dumped it and left elizabeth dealing with the pile... the second load was 95 bales ( different stacker) and back to meridith-- where elizabeth had been joined by the 3 stone wall builders who threw hay for her on their break... what a nice bunch.... as we were dumping the second load a man rushed over to save me from driving on the jumper cable,,, found out it was wallaces father... i told him what a nice son he had.... not sure but maybe he has a second son too... there was a great younger guy who helped with the arena somebody said was related....
i had to notice a small piece of paper.. probably 2 inch x 2 inch lying about 10 feet from the dumped hay-- and without a word elizabeth snatched it up and put it in the trash.. she is well trained !! the place is not manicured. But It sure is tidy........ I have noticed one small piece of plastic stuck in a tree..... we do have a long handled something.. so that is my next assignement. We are soo lucky to have access to that property.. we could never pay enough for the privlidge.. polite, hard working and cheerful goes a long way.
Rushing back mark put the plow back on my poor overworked forerunner—which by now is full ½ way up the windows with #$%^&* which includes 3 years worth of accounting for a guy named Fred,
The only part not totally first class is the tie down ropes-- they deserve special attention as every time they are screwed up... todays blizzard ( a rainy blizzard????) may give us a chance.
The dogs spent most of the day in the car—they seem to like it there...but every once in a while sizzle wants out--- she will get her head between the seats when coming up our driveway. Which seems to be...let me off duty...
Between that poor car and “my project room” we have a weeks worth of problems to solve... bless the blizzard warning???
many thanks again to all for the buy a bale for $10 there underneath my signature.. this money is exclusively for hay/grain... horse food !! so i put the latest expenses on the welcome board. just to keep you all updated..
have at it !
