Piet-----i am to the point of saying no news is not good. news.... they are finding nothing... as of last night... there are a few studies yet toi come in-- but it is sounding a little familiar with the  "big foot "  disease i have encountered many times before with george..... little difference --- it is one back foot instead of one front which was the usual...  but the very high temp was part of it.--   i will post on the comment column if we get any  news.

2 big pushes of he day....

try and get teh  bonding room set for human and dog...it is the back of the laundry building-- which was once janine's bedroom-- and lynns office...now we want to set it up with queen size bed... and big sofa available somehow... i think we can come up with a tv( out of lynns office) couple tables... maybe a chair if w3e are lucky--- and of course... a coffee maker...  we will have to remove all other dogs-- and there should be plenty of room ,,, now that the nutt a d deagle houses have fencing repaired,

and sec ond Push is to have a look at teh 17 pups-- and how they are growing and moving,  we still 

have not picked the usual 2 breeders.

speaking of that

yesterday wandering around looking for breakfast-- i was on a back/ narrow  road beyond georgetown. which did have one yellow line in teh middle.....--- not a car in sight front or back,,,, it is my habit to ride in the middle of such a  road..... however..... this new car ( toyota roadrunner) did not think it was aappropriate and started with the bells and whistles and a sign on the dash that said ...."don't you think you should take a coffee break?"

now really !!!!

we have kitchen. counters----   wet do not touch counters, but.. they are there.....

 going on no news is good news from piet-- he was not here overnight... probably home today..

we have great news from our 2 kids  with daisy and melvin -- summer camp is going well so far....

problem #468 of the day..  yesterday riding around  in my car,,,,,just looking... after any rainstorm there is the usual collection of puddles.. but i happened to notice a different pattern in front of the laundry building--- thinking "oh no. -- not something overflowing..." i went to look---- and it was the hot water hose--- left running... now the last time i remember anyone using that hose would have been before the. rainstorm... which would be saturday or sunday.  and it was tuesday morning.  

wasting water --- and electricity at the same time.!!

it's the kind of thing that drives me nuts.....  noticing...between sunday and tuesday an awful lot of people stepped over that hose on their way to the rest room..

so how do we fix it?   well if we have to put a sign "please shut off the water" we have a huge problem...

i did see that kind of thing coming with the hose to the donkey water-- and i fixed the hose so  the water had to drop 3 feet into the tub- and make a noise so anyone going by would see it got left on ...  someone else decided that was  a strange way to run water---   and took it down-  now instead of driving by and checking the water in the donkey area, i have to get out of the car and go look.  - which does not happen that often-- so today  i could go and hang all hoses so we can see if they  are running.... but i will have to put signs on them explaining--- 

and then a sign on the gate "please read signs"??????

there are soooooooo many things around here to make the care of dogs and horses much easier than the "usual" . until.......

piet report... he has made it so far...temp has gone from 106 to 103. still no reason what is going on...  he is in the  24 hour hosp.  

please----when we have a \DOG GET SICK OR HURT--- AND WE WILL.  ......it is  not acceptable to  tell us what to do-- we are under vet survalience most of the time anyway and  all the clutter about  " i think you should try more string beans because my second uncle had a PUP 43 YERARS AGO WHO GOT OVER THAT WITH STRING BEANS"  IS VERY DISRUPTIVE,AND DETRIMENTAL TO OUR CLEAR THINKING.------BECAUSE IMMEDIATELY  THE INTERNET WILL GET INVOLVED WITH "WELL THEY SHOULD LISTEN TO ME"... AND EVEN WORSE. "I AM GOING TO REPORT THEM TO THE SPCA IF THEY DON'T DO XXXXXXXXX". AND WE ... BEING THE MOST VISABLE DOG OUTFIT ON THE EAST COAST.....CAN GO THRU MIND BOGGLING VISITS AND INVESTIGATIONS  WHICH GO NO WHERE... EVER SINCE I DID COMMERCIALS IN FULL VIEW OF SPCA AND ANIMAL RIGHTS GROUPS.  BOTH GROUPS WERE ON THE SET TO BE SURE THEY COULD GIVE THE MOVIE THAT CERTIFICATE "NO ANIMALS  WERE HURT OR INJURED  IN THE MAKING OF THIS MOVIE". AND WITH  THE EXCEPTION OF THE COCKROACHES- THEY WEREN'T..

? COCKROACHES?  YES-- FOR THE MOVIE THE NEXT KARATE KID---M MY SON IN LAW GOT A SHOEBOX FULL IN SOME LOCAL RESTAURANT-- AND AFTER THE FILMING. I SET FIRE TO THE BOX IN THE PARKING LOT.--- I WAS AFRAID I WOULD GET THEM IN MY CAR.

ok...--- now remember that darling sweet baby horse everyone thought was teh sweetest in the world????? and he was...... well , he has discovered he can chase people and bite them-- not only that but it was reported to me he kicked elizabeth in teh neck,,,,,, that puts 2 of his feet over 5 feet off teh ground... and they are attached to a very beautiful muscular horse all headed at  being strong to pull a plow-- but first he has to learn not to kick people in the head. 

let me make it very  clear.... all those books about how sweet and lovely a horse can be.. there is alot of editing that goes on behind the sceenes.

she put a "thing" on my desk so she can call me at 4am ( we are both early risers) she says this thing is "just like my phone"  which is enough to set me off the edge right there. since "my phone" is not what you would call  a helpful tool for me.....as it is to sooooo many folk.

"well lets  start at that beginning and straighten that out"( says gwen. ) "where's  your phone?"

bingo... she  hit that first problem right on the nose. "i dunno" 

so we start--- it is not on either desk, or my bed- or in  the laundry..

"well- that is no problem lets just call it"  " what's your number?"  " i dunno"

"well- we can just look it up on your computer".   which gave us teh choice of 2- i didn't recognise either....

but she eliminated the dead phone number and was ready to call the live one....she was making progress..

and her logic was perfect... of course...

she dialed.... we listened... and we determined it was either not in the house... or had a dead battery..

only other place my phone goes is  in my car... "well let me just  go look in your car.  where's your car?" 

it is not parked by the house were the rats ate my  sequoia so it must be down by he barn...

"i'll just hop on your golf cart and run down".  

... returning... "your car is not there....  it must be at meridith.  for towing the trailer which matt was to use to get the mare and naughty foal back here."

i will just look when i get to meredith because i am to meet janine  because she is having  "her cowboy" ?walt? ride a mule in the  myopia hunt this morning at 7am... i should. be back about 7:30...."

and that is where it rests,,, 

meanwhile--- i got all the parts to "blacken" the. beautiful wood stove  which is in our kitchen....sanding block,  a can of denatured whatever--and 2 tubes of "stove blackening". -  i was to do this while janine and gwen chased the mule --- with a formally. dressed cowboy riding  it. ....all over hamilton/ myopia

AND...  some helpful person cleared off the stove so i could work on it.... not realizing they had cleaned off all the materials i needed to start the  job-- probably moving them to. the cellar to be  carefully catagorized in one of the   784 plastic boxes which  contain all. the "stuff" from the "overflow room" 

so i now have 30 minutes to kill til gwen and janine get back from chasing the mule....

so when at 5pm mail call you ask me... "what did i do today.?".. i may havee to resort to.    ===.   "i dunno"

I REMEMBER.... BROWNIE... AN ABSOLUTELY PERFECT DOG--- HUGE... MERLE... WELL EDUCATED.. I SENT HIM TO PENNA AS A SERVICE DOG TO SOMEONE TRYING TO START UP  DANE SERVICE TRAINING.  IN THE PROCESS HE GOT A HAPPY TAIL AND SINCE IT COULD NOT BE CONTROLLED THEY DECIDED TO CROP HIS TAIL TO ABOUT 6 INCHES...  NO PROBLEM THERE... EXCEPT ......

AS IS TRUE WITH MOST VET OFFICES THEY WERE NOT PREPARED FOR A DOG HIS SIZE SO TO HAVE HIM COME OUT OF ANESTHESIA THEY STUFFED HIM IN  THE BIGGEST CAGE THEY HAD... AND LEFT HIM TO THRASH AND BANG HIS WAY INTO THE REAL WORLD.... THERE IS USUALLY ONLY ABOUT A 5 MINUTE SPAN WHERE THEY START TO "COME OUT"---IT IS A VERY TOUGH FEW MINUTES----

THAT 5 MINUTES ABSOLUTELY RUINED THAT DOG BECAUSE EVER SINCE----- ANY METAL NOISE-- LIKE A GARBAGE CAN LID-- WOULD SEND HIM INTO AN UNCONTROLLED PANIC. SO I VOWED TO NEVER H AVE  A DOG OF MINE HAVE TO GO THRU THAT WITHOUT A BABY SITTER  OR VET TECH SPECIALLY ASSIGNED TO HIM... AND FOR THE PAST 20 YEARS I HAVE DONE THAT--- USUALLY ME--- OR, LATELY. DONNA IS THE USUAL.

UNTIL YESTERDAY. 

POOR JIMINEY... I  FAILED HIM.

yesterday's newspaper had  pn page 8 --my discertation on the picking of poo--- and on the front page someone trying to get a permit for a training kennel---and the problems she is having,... dogs and dog owners have a terrible reputation 99% of which is based on  "poo" -- you would think dogs did nothing but produce mounds of foul smelling excrement.   i can not believe how easily the public can be lead to believe the damnest things. 

 FEAR--- RUNS THE WORLD....    IF SHE HAS 5 DOGS THERE FOR TRAINING-   REALITY WOULD BE EACH DOG MIGHT MOVE THERI BOWELS T2ICE A DAY... SO IF SHE CAN BEND OVER WITH  CARDBOARD.. AS WE DO...  THAT WOULD BE 10 TIMES AT MOST- - 

 SHE IS TRYING TO KEEP A BUNCH OF PEOPLE. HAPPY THAT ONLY KNOW FEAR AND ARE  NOT WILLING TO INVESTIGATE BEFORE MAKING AN  OPINION....

ALL IT TAKES IS ONE PERSON TO "TAKE COMMAND OF ALL OPINIONS" AND PEOPLE ARE TOO BUSY TO LOOK INTO DETAILS -- THE WORLD OF REASON IS GONE...  WE ARE NOW RULED  BY  WHATEVER  FACEBOOK HAS TO OFFER--- WHO GETS TOGETHER NOW OVER COFFEE TO DISCUSS A  NEIGHBORHOOD PROBLEM?--- NOW A QUICK RUN THRU DUNKIN DRIVETHRU AND KEEP RUNNING.

I HAVE SPENT 10 YEARS TRAINING CP’S AS THE PROPER PROTOCOL  FOR ADDRESSING  SOMETHING THEY SEE ON THE CAMERAS.... IS IT AN EMERGENCY?  IS THE BARN ON FIRE?   PLEASE DO  CALL ME—OR TALK IT OVER AND DECIDE WHAT TYPE EMERGENCY IS IT?  THEN CALL.

YESTERDAY I BET I SPENT 2 HOURS DEALING WITH  TRYING TO EXPLAIN  “HOW FAST DO A HORSES TEETH GROW”—AND IF A DOG’S 103 TEMP IS ENOUGH TO REQUIRE A TRIP TO THE VET HOSPITAL AND  AN OVERNIGHT STAY THERE.....

 

 EVERYONE MEANT WELL--- BUT AFTER TEH 6^TH  PHONE CALL----REQUIRING ME TO TRY AND BE POLITE—IT GOT TO B E A STRAIN...

 

I CAN NOT PUT ANY OF THE THINGS I THOUGHT OF SAYING IN THE  DD ABOUT HORSES AND TEETH...

THAT IS WHEN THE BUNCH HIT ABOUT  WHY WE DID NOT TAKE PIET TO THE VET--- AND DID WE NOT REEALIZE ALL THE AWFUL THINGS A 103 TEMP COULD BE,.... OFF AND RUNNING ON THAT 103 TEMP. WHEN PEOPLE NEED TO REALIZE. 99% OF VET OFFICES CLOSE AT 9:00 AND THEY GO. BACK IN AT 7AM TO SEE WHO LIVED/ OR DIED --THRU THE  NIGHT—THE ONLY VET HOSP THAT IS DIFFERENT  IS TEH EMERGENCY 24 HOUR HOSP WHO ARE FULLY STAFFED OVERNIGHT- AND ABOUT $1000 A NIGHT , IF YOU CAN ----“GET A BED/ CAGE” ---  I HAVE BEEN IN THAT SPOT MANY TIMES... – AT 103—I WAS NOT THERE YET.

 THE DIAGNOSIS CAN BE AMUSING FOR A WHILE. BUT GETS VERY ANNOYING  AFTER TOO MANY PHONE CALLS.

 personally......i need a thundershirt..... really... apparently  this thundershirt they now advertise will cure all the problems a dog could have-- so why not one for me??/ just think----- if noise bothers me- especially the. noise of the news - i  could just slip into that "strap on solution" . which would help for those days when i can not reach the off button quickly enough. and the ubiquitous  thundering of  just too many people could be silenced by a quick wrap?   ustabee liquor was a quicker solution to which so many people  resorted- myself included.... but my several bottles of ( donated) blackberry brandy sit high on my shelf and out of m. y sight... having developed such a poor memory, i forget they are there..... but with meletonin not doing the trick, maybe back to brandy should be tried ....again.

i don't know who got this thunder shirt.  idea... and name.... maybe it was an overworked pediatric  nurse while she was wrapping a newborn   so tight in the blankets because she heard  it quieted  these babies..  so they would sleep longer......  baby swathing  is a 2000 year old  practice- but the biblical swathing  was very specific  about  not swathing so tight the poor babe can not breathe..... how different from doctor pol who throws a bucket of cold water on a newborn calf.... with a "here you go... wake up. to the world."  and the calf... within hours gets up and gets to. work... finding the  cafeteria.... so maybe the. world would be a better place if we took dr pol's approach  of a slosch. in cold water......" here is the world  kid.... get used to it" 

Swathing so tight that they can't move might be the cause of  "lack of individual effort"  a problem which becomes so evident 16 years later. -

i know of a child who was born in the front seat of a pick up truck- and certainly never got swathed so he could sleep better...and currently can be found having hauled his 6'2" muscular frame   80 feet up a big tree to earn a  nice living.

so..... if you are while desiging my personal. thundershirt , please note it must be  a warming device also-- because  along with  many  other things which were once automatic...., my ability to regulate  my temperature in various body parts has become very limited.

why my dogs do not wear collars while not working...

I was sitting on the edge of my bed wrapped in a towel wearing slippers waiting for my husband to get out of the shower when I heard an awful noise coming from the dog house outside my window .....  when I looked I saw the fact that a young pup had tried to jump the 6 foot fence and gotten his collar caught in the  twisted top of the chain link and was hanging there by the collar.  we do live  back "in the woods"   altho running about in a towel is not normal, it can on occasion be necessary.

I immediately ran to help and as I got hold of the dog and tried to lift... I needed more lift so I put my left toe in the chain link and had the dog more or less sitting on my knee while I steadied  the top part with m y hands..... Needless to say the towel had dropped by my feet and I was left wearing one slipper.   I tried to lift the extra 2 inches to get the collar unhooked from that chain link and was not getting anywhere. the dog probably weighed 75 to 100 pounds... so as I stood there wondering what to do next.. up the driveway came the FedEx truck... and as he pulled through the gate and deposited the packages I called to him.” Mr FedEx could you give me a hand”.. he took one look and decided that. yes......I certainly did need help and he cheerfully came to my rescue ....we lifted the dog off the fence...  I put the dog on the ground and picked up my towel and thanked  the nice man for giving me a hand.   He smiled and said not to worry he wouldn't tell anybody.  ..

 Somewhere there is a Fedex driver who smiles.... a lot !

Since i like to be as instructional as possible....   -- the purpose of that true story is........ chain link fence comes twisted wire or "knuckle-knuckle".  and for dogs - the knuckle knuckle is by far the better choice.

i have an even bigger reason not to leave the collars on the dogs at play--- for some other day/

 nother day ,nother dollar...  was my fathers morning greeting.

 however in this case .... it is another day, another load of hay to get in the barn...yesterday mark and matt managed to bring home a 24' hay elevator in a 18' trailer.... and then bud managed to make it work on 110.. which it happily did and we got one pile of hay into  the loft.  it replaced a mamouth pile of empty shavings bags---- i am not sure how much room is left for the dump trailer load which is waiting under a tarp in the parking pit.-- apparently the rain is to stop about 11:00. ----now if there are any strong souls in need of real exercise. we have some exercise to offer about noon.....

i remember.........you can buy hay by the bale--- great vaRIETY OF WEIGHTS....."NORMAL NOW.....40-50 POUND TWO STRANDS OF PLASTIC STRING  CURRENTELY BLUE AROUND HERE---- THEN THERE IS WIRE BALES.....75+++ POUNDS AND 2 STRANDS  OF THAT YELLOW TWINE OFTEN 30 TO 35 POUNDS.

WITH ALL SORTS OF COMPLICATIONS-- LIKE WEEDS.... MOISTURE....DUST.... MOLD... FUNNY SMELL

AND YOU FEED IT BY THE POUND-- A 1000 POUND HORSE NEEDS 20 POUNDS  OF HAY A DAY

 in lynnfield , i used to buy hay by the scale weight-- as they crossed the CANADIAN  border. - I BOUGHT FROM THE ONE TRUCK DRIVER ---"ANDRE".  FOR MANY YEARS.... NICE GUY.--- THEN HE GOT OLDEER AND HIRED HELP-- ONE DAY THE HELP BACKED THE TRAILER UP TO THE HAY DOOR-- AND I WENT UP TO OPEN IT WHILE HE REMOVED THE TARP..... HE HAD SOLD  OFF ALL THE MIDDLE BALES TO SOMEONE  ELSE AND  ALTHO IT LOOKED LIKE A FULL TRUCKLOAD.... IT WAS HOLLOW...  I CALLED ANDRE-- WHO ASKED IF THE TRUCK WAS IN MY WAY- BECAUSE HE WOULD BE DOWN TO UNLOAD IT  HIMSELF THE NEXT DAY-  THE. DRIVER WAS LAST SEEN WALKING DOWN MY DRIVEWAY---- IT WAS GOING TO BE A LONG WALK TO ANY TRANSPORTATION....... BUT MY GUESS IS HE HAD A POCKET FULL OF ANDRE'S MONEY.

A DISHONEST PERSON IS A DISHONEST PERSON WHO CAN "JUSTIFY" ALMOST ANY SCHEME. IT IS AMAZING...  BUT I HAVE RUN. INTO SOME PEOPLE LIKE THAT.....  TO BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST.
