oct 17 2021

gizelle is back early thi s year---  usually the rat mice chipmonks and squirrels. wait til close to thanksgiving to come back inside from the woods etc....  judy set 14 traps last week... ad caught one mouse.  all the cp's who were pleased to see someone nailed a board over  gizille's rat hole=- don't realize it was a waste of a piece of wood..  they can and wil lchew thru anything !!  i drilled those holes long ago so i could get a vacuum hose in there and clean it up a bit.and at least annoy them....

real problem is... it is a perfect rat condo.. because we raised teh counters 6" by building a platform to set the cabinets on... so rats moved into  that space- tough to get rid of because we can never use poizon on the property because of the dogs--- a dead rat is a dog's  favorite chew toy--
if i had to speculate. i would guess  more rats go down--- burroughing  into tunnels-- than go up--not sure i have seen many rats in the hayloft...or attic.... now squirrels are another thing... acorns in the guest house upstairs bed--- between the sheets-- are a squirrels favorite...  " storing thier nuts for the winter".  is a fact of country living.....

the forest will invade you if. you do not take constqant methods to prevent it.-- not just the animals... but vegaqtation-  miss cutting the graass for a couple weeks and  you will see teh opportunistic vines taking over...and there are a whole bunch of "weeds". that grow 3 feet high--- to give some other weeds a running shot at  eye level prickerbushes...  that area in front of the house could be another pond-- the beavers would love it -- and are trying....if only we could cut it back..   ??? goats????
----------
people are taking the hayloft collection of costumes  at the bottom of the driveway..  lf-
if i had come to a bunch of stuff like that when my  kids were small we would have been all set for 2 years of costtumes...
--
the making of my costumes for kids school episodes was greatly enriched by the discovery of the white wire coat. hanger s for white shirts  from the cleaners-- i starte when i used to frame teh danes ears... in the days of trying to make the ears stand up... but the coat hanges were better for mor than dog earss
very simply. cut the hook off teh hanger-- bend one side around your thigh - and the. other sttraight up... thentake a second one and bend around theother thigh and straight up... by taping the 2 opposing parts together, you have  the start of a helmet to be tied under the chin... and anything in th ewolrd attached to the   2 "straight up peices.... in my case   "fuzzy wire  reindeer antlers".   or.    a childs crutch for a unicorn antler...  it is. one of those valuable things i  learned... wire coathangers...and the use there of---------
---------
you know... we never got totally cleaned up from dogffest-- there are still soda cans all over tht t-tent.... and bud is picking away at it..  we need a groundskeeper....  i watched lynn repair a fence so the dogs could not get in with the chickens--- she should not be doing that-- but we don't have anyone else....  and it is only going to get worse over teh winter...

i say over teh winter... it really is --- usually only 3 months. april thru december is usuall no not too bad.... especially with a plow for my
(heated) car..... even a blizzard in april--- can  be "waited out' instead of massive shoveling required by all the chain link fencing...snow blowers don't work there eiterh..

farmers almanac  is still around-----starts giving. advice iin november ... with the advice to harvest your kale--teh rest they are now printing so small i will need new eyeglasses before i know what else i sm supposed to do in nov 2021

remember the good old days when every puppy knew h ow to yuppy??
