LUCKILY LACHY WAQS JUST PLAYING LAST NIGHT... AS LITTLE PUPPIEs OFTEN DO WITH EACH OTHER-- EXCEPT HE IS BIG.. IT WAS A PERFECT EXAMPLE OF A TIME WHEN LACHY NEEDED A STRONGER RESPONSE TO LET HIM KNOW THAT WAS NOT THE APPROVE METHOD OF STEAARNG ANNA AROUND.... LACHY DID NOT TAke heather seriously---and thought she had joined the game.......she is too pleasent--
my official direction in these instances is to grab or smack teh offending part-- which would have been his mouth. and you never beat the dog. however.... you must leave no confusion about the fact that the game he was playing had rules...actulaly heather's grabbing anna and taking her away is not usually approved... had this been a fight instead of "lets rumble"...... lifting her away would have been seen by the attacking dog that the other dog was defeated and retreating of his own accord... that could have precipitated a real mess.
what any one does in the event of an impending dog fight depends too much on all the tiny details for me to advise... but i have seen 100 times.. dogs on a leash... getting dragged away often get attacked for real by the other dog.-- personally i usually attack teh attacker myself-- and try and get myself in between-- because teh qattacker is focuswed on biting the dog.. and -- i thini-- would consider biting you. a waste of time. ... the part you do not want your had in th emiddke is when they are snapping their heasds around and biting anything they can reach-- maybe your hand....-- this attacking the attacker will 68% of the time....get you in trouble with the owner who will stand there and say "why did you hit my dog?" my responses to that question must be avoided... depending on the circumstances... and age of teh other owner.
i hope all you camera people will be more generous if the situation ever arrises that we have to prevent or break up a real fight on camera -- the last real fight i remember was bentley and walter.. 2 stud dogs.... .. megan and i were both there---walter had jaws locked on bentlye and was not letting go... making is only slightly more safe to get involved.... megan grabbed and i grabbed and we pulled...
i had bentley's neck skin-- and meban did the effective part-- working from the rear... she grabbed th masculing appendages and pulled.... walter let go-- and as she held him. back.... i slipped in between them so bentley couldn't grab walter... whiole. time i bashed both of them on the head with my fists as she had her hands full holding walters family jewels, i prevented bentley from going near him-- because he definitely thought megan was a huge help in defeating walter.
it was right in front of the t tent-- but the camera was not on us... if it had been... we would have been deluged with "why didn't you...." 's-----
best solution---??? eliminate teh possibliity --- all well and good except accidents happen-- so if you end up with more than 2 individual male appendiages in the same room or fenced enclosure, you need to do all you can to stay between teh pairs of problems....
neutering works a bit.. maybe after a few months.. it may eliminate the fights. ----- it certainly eliminates the puppies.
-----
an uncontrolable male should be neutered-- not just dogs, and bulls ,,
see how carefully i did not discuss any current legal decision????
-----
lacky is a super dog---- wonderful disposition--- will hopefully be a terrrific stud---- but....... he needs to be controlable... which does not include lifting his leg on bentley's bed. with me standing right there. I wasn't fast enough to grab teh offending part.
---
ACTUALLY I HAD THAT PROBLEM ONCE... IN SAM'S ( A COSTCO KIND OF PLACE...) trying to teach a dog to poull a wheelcahair, i stopped to talk to someone and my student lifted his leg in fron to f everready pattery display... being inthe wheelchair and the right height... i grabbed and squeezed....thinking i could shut it off.
for your future reference......that does not work...
----
fot those who likke the. squeemish i did have the lump out--- they thought "fat". it certaionly looked like a golf ball made of fat stuff sitting in th little jar awaiting a microscope exam...

Danica and I have been spending Friday afternoons in the barn and around the farm. Her job is to tell the pups what it’s like to be a full-fledged Service Dog and taking care of of her person (lucky me). My job is to fold laundry and make sure all the water pails are scrubbed fresh and filled with water in each kennel.
So I had a revelation of sorts last Friday as I was shlepping 2 full pails at a time back and forth. Before being matched with Danica I had volunteered regularly at the barn doing much the same thing. It suddenly occurred to me that I hadn’t been able to carry the clean buckets back to the kennels previously, not even one! “ Is that right? “I asked myself and “how can that be?” I’m doing it now and without a great deal of effort.
My answer is that, prior to Danica’s assistance, I was having some frequent, horrific falls and my shoulders were taking the brunt of those falls. My wrists, elbows and shoulders were in terrible disarray with a lot of pain but they just didn’t work right either. What changed?
We all know what changed! Danica, with her stability and gait matching have virtually eliminated my splats to the ground. My shoulders have had a chance to heal, my legs, arms and back are stronger and I’m much more stable.
So my ability to shlep the water buckets with ease is certainly an unintended consequence of the generosity and hard work of those that make Service Dog Project roll on.
Thank you all, Team Danica and Susan
