slim pickins for ideas today..i watched teh iowa bit for a long time... i dunno what happened... but i would bet 25 cents -- if i actually knew what i was betting on. bad experiences have made me somewhat of an expert on how to screw up a computer.. to set up the perfect storm .. instead of just entering the final number-- someone got teh brainstorm of trying to figure out all this candidate changng bit-- it should be easy with a computer-- but.... add to it that probably the people punching this were volunteers once every 4 years --- and teh concept of any fool can keypunch is nuts--all you need is one keystroke in the wrong place and the computer will have a field day- the whole process of 2 or 3 different numbers being entered is just never going to be accurate.
poking holes in punch cards had it's own way of screwing up the voting in florida.. remember, i bought one of those voting machines on ebay- and had a good look, the "hanging chads" were not the only problem.. the cards were set up so teh left side had candidates 1,2,3,4 and the right had candidates A,B,C,D but the holes were set up so they were 1 A 2 B 3 C- standing there at teh booth if you wanted to vote for teh second person on teh left side 2 , you poked teh second hole--- which was programmed for candidate "A"-- thus an "honest error " which eliminated many votes for candidate 2 -- i have set it up and found that error was made by over 80% of people who "voted' on my machine.
there was no way of resolving that in florida
remember i made a small fortune on the fact that the computer billing for the want ad magazine
had an "A" where it should have had an "N"-- so when it sorted the numbered months, it was 1,10,11,12,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9. -----the want ad had 100,000'S OF DOLLARS HELD UP BY THAT REALLY SIMPLE ERROR..companies could not understand teh bills.
IT TAKES A COMPUTER TO REALLY SCREW UP DATA/NUMBERS.
at least in iowa they have the paper trail..... i think...

Good morning Carlene,
Greetings from Succasunna, NJ. I had to chuckle at the DD today… There are a lot of folks in NJ that want to get rid of the law that forbids us from pumping our own gas. After reading your DD I am going to add this to the list of reasons why we shouldn’t. The fact that they are charging that much more doesn’t seem fair or ethical. I believe there is still one other state (maybe Oregon) that prohibits you from pumping your own gas. This is one time where I think NJ has it over the rest of the country!
Warmest Regards
Debbie
