GETTING PINCHED BY A TOILET SEAT SEEMS TO BE MY LOT IN LIFE--  I HAVE NO IDEA HOW A FRACTURED MY TIOLET SEAT ABOUT 8 MONTHS AGO..   AND HOW PAINFUL THAT WAS !!    IT WAS REMEDIED 84% BY SOME PURPLE DUCT TAPE-- BUT LAST WEEK  I DECIDED TIME HAD COME TO SPLURGE AND BUY A NEW ONE-  THERE WERE ONLY 2 KINDS  THAT I KNEW OF -- ROUND AND ELONGATED- BUT As  i studied teh selection, i found someone had invented a bangless toilet seat--just in case any of teh males in the household  had not graduated from  Lid Lowering 101....  this new seat does  not bang when dropped... but it also does not quite fit  -- if i am not very careful to approach it  while listing to starboard,  it pinches. i really don't want all you good people to start sending me toilet seats, like you did the 59 bird houses.  there is not a lot of uses for extra toilet seats...   i will  eventually go get another pinchless one....

actually i already have an extra --- it hANGS OVER LINDA"S HEAD IN THE OFFICE -  IT IS A NICE OAk with the carving of a great dane on it...   far too nice to be hidden away in the "water closet"  - so i hung it in the office.

When linda was new here, she commented on what a nice carving it was and did not believe me when i told her it was really a toilet seat....

it was the first of many learning experiences for LINDA around here.. from city life to ......  crazy acres. 

last night linda and bud  were closing up the guinnea hens when bud picked up a baby hen to raise it to the loft-- and momma hen did not approve attacking his head-  linda has ceased to be shocked at this kind of thing.  she hqs come a long way !!

i had several emails saying the 3.31 postage got teh calendars delivered....at least i have not heard of anyone being charged extra....

My calendar came today to Indiana postmarked from Groveland MA. Postage paid was $3.31 and I didn't owe anything for it. You were hoping nobody had to pay extra for it and as said, I didn't.

i am delighted that 4 people wrote to me about mailing with paypal+ i look forward to their qdvice.... SAVING 50 CENTS PER CALENDAR  IS REAL MONEY  --- NOW..... APPARENTLY  WHEN MARA TOOK A BUNCH OF CALENDARS TO HER LOCAL POST OFFICE  THEY CHARGED $3.56 INSTEAD OF THE $5.15 WHICH THE MAIN POST OFF ICE CHARGED...  I HOPE THAT DOES NOT MEAN ALL THOSE CALENDARS WILL ARRIVE "POSTAGE DUE" ----   KEEP US POSTED ( SO TO SPEAK???)  somehow--- the world has gone all out of control-- how old am i??? i remember the 3 cent stamp for mailing a letter and  a 'penny postcard" was a real thing... I babysat for 25 cents an hour-- at thaT RATE I WOUL DHAVE TO BABYSIT FOR 2 HOURS TO MAIL A LETTER NOW.   I SEEM TO REMEMBER $300 A SEMESTER FOR COLLEGE TUITION?? CHEAP LABOR....HOT TOPIC... WELL KNOWN AS  "THE MAD RUSSIAN"    YEFIM SHUBENTSOV  HIS SUCCESS IS SAID TO BE 97%----  FOR $85-- WHATEVER... SHE HAS NOT SMOKED IN OVER 3 DAYS--- ***  I REMEMBER------ HYPNOSIS..... MAYBE I MISSED MY CALLING-- MY HUSBAND HAD TO GO TO X HOURS OF COURSES PER YEAR TO MAINTAIN HIS MEDICAL LICENSE-- WE WOULD GET  DOZENS OF ADS FOR EXOTIC PLACES TO VISIT ( TAX DEDUCTABLE FOR HIM)--   BUT I WAS THE ONE TO OPEN TH EMAIL AND GET TO PICK WHERE WE WENT..( ON OCCASION- AS LONG AS THERE WAS A RACE TRACK NOT TOO FAR AWAY...) ONE TIME I PICKED A COURSE IN PENNA BECAUSE IT INVOLVED  A COURSE IN HYPNOSIS--   I "TOOK" THAT COURSE  ALSO...  AND AFTER 2 DAYS  I WAS GIVEN WHAT LOOKED LIKE A DIPLOMA IN  "TREATING BY HYPNOSIS"-  IT IS AROUND HERE SOMEWHERE.... WHAT I DID LEARN WAS  I AM ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT CAN NOT BE HYPNOTIZED AND  I  DID RECOGNIZE THE POWER OF  "SNAPPING YOUR FINGERS TO HAVE SOME GUY CLEAN YOUR GUTTERS"  AS TEH COMMERCIAL NOW SAYS... WHAT WOULD THIS PLACE LLOOK LIKE IF  I HAD BEEN HYPNOTIZED TO GO PURCHASE A REFRIGERATOR  IF I HEARD A DOG BARK.?? I HAVE REALIZED  TEH SKILL IS NOT A TOY TO BE  USED IRRESPONSIBLY..  ALSO IT DOES NOT ALWAYS WORK.. THAT $85 COULD BE TEH BEST MONEY PAM EVER SPENT. THERE WERE  "UPPER CLASSMAN" WHO WERE HIRED  AS "REP" BY THE  DIFFERENT CIGARETTE COMPANIES-  THEY HAD A BIG SUPPLY OF CIGAREETTES - 4 TO A PACK-- TO BE DISTRIBUTED TO UNDERCLASSMEN TO GET THEM "HOOKED"  ON THIER BRAND.--  THE PACKS WERE DESIGNED EXACTLY LIKE THE PACKS OF 20--  EVEN TO TEARING THE LITTLE RED TAPE TO OPEN THEM- BECAUSE THE COMPANIES REALIZED THERE IS MORE  TO THIS ADDICTION THAN JUST SMOKE...  LIKE SNAPPING  THE NEW  PACK ON YOUR FINGERS TO GET A BUTT TO SLIDE PARTIALLY OUT.    ---- IT WAS/IS A SICK PERFORMANCE WHICH WE AS BRAINLESS FRESHMEN   HAD BEEN TRAINED TO ACCEPT. COLBY-- OR MOST OTHER  COLLEGES  NEVER QUESTIONED ALLOWING THIS .. IT IS FRIGHTENING TO  REALIZE HOW EASILY WE CAN BE TRAINED TO THINK ONE WAY-- OR NOT THINK AT ALL... THERE IS A DIFFERENCE IN THE MEN----I HAVE NOT YET DETERMINED THE PERCENTAGE... BUT SOME HAVE THIER SHIRT/TIE CONFIGERATION LACED HIGH SO THAT IT SUPPORTS THE PROJECTION AT THE FRONT OF THEIR NECK FORMED BY THE  THYROID CARTILAGE OF TEH LARYNIX-- COMMONLY CALLED ADAM'S APPLE-- OR AS ONE OF OUR  CP COMMUNITY CALLS IT... sniffle season is with t us....- my kingdom for a box of kleenex ALL MY VERY OWN.... !!!--SNIFFFLES  also make for  people taking the day off.... which yesterday was helped with bella aND JUDY  SHOWING UP TO FILL IN...

THE EXCITEMENT OF TEH AFTERNOON WAS JUDY WANTED A HUGE MONKEY FIST-- AND I DUG OUT an   EXTRA CANDLEPIN BOWLING BALL-- AND WE-- BOTH -- MADE ONE...  IT AIN'T EASY WITH THOSE BIG ONES.  BUT WE GOT THERE.. I NOW HAVE 2 HANGING THERE TO BE " FINISHED" WITH 2 DROP[S OF HOT GLUE TO HIDE THE ENDS BETTER. THOSE FINISH at 6" across-- and i am told they are good door stops-- it does take 2 people to manage all the rope and bowing ball for the middle- they take 25 feet of rope-- and that rope is $.50 a foot-- with $12 for  THE used bowling baLL ON EBAY..... JUDY AND I FOR AN HOUR... AND HEAVEN KNOWS WHAT IT WOULD COST TO MAIL IT.--I SAID THOSE ARE $10,000- AND A BARGAIN AT THAT !!

DAY 2 IN DC WAS JUST AS GREAT AS YESTERDAY, AND A LITTLE MORE FUN SINCE WE GOT TO EXPLORE THE AREA! THIS MORNING WE INTERVIEWED WITH TWO MORE PUBLIC INTEREST LAW FIRMS AND I'M SO EXCITED THAT THE INTERVIEW WITH TODAY'S DISABILITY RIGHTS FIRM SEEMED TO GO PARTICULARLY WELL. THE CRAZINESS OF THE LAST TWO DAYS IS OVER - NOW WE WAIT AND SEE IF THE HARD WORK PAID OFF!

THIS AFTERNOON ASHER AND I HEADED OUT TO SEE SOME OF DC'S FAMOUS DESTINATIONS. I KNOW I SAY ALL THE TIME HOW PERFECT A TRAVEL BUDDY ASHER IS, BUT HIS COMPANY OVER YESTERDAY AND TODAY ENABLED ME TO ENJOY THIS TRIP IN WAYS I HAVEN'T BEFORE. I'M PRETTY SURE THIS WAS MY FIRST SOLO TRIP - I KNEW A FEW CLASSMATES WHO WENT AND SAW THEM A COUPLE TIMES, BUT I WASN'T MEETING UP WITH ANYONE OR STAYING WITH ANYONE I KNEW, SO 90% OF THE TIME I WAS ALONE. THERE'S NO WAY I WOULD HAVE HOPPED IN AN UBER AND EXPLORED AN UNFAMILIAR CITY ALONE FOR HOURS A YEAR AND A HALF AGO, BUT THAT'S EXACTLY WHAT WE DID TODAY AND I SO ENJOYED BEING ABLE TO WANDER MOSTLY AIMLESSLY, STOPPING TO LOOK AT WHATEVER I WANTED.

THE WEATHER COOPERATED FOR US FOR THE MOST PART, WITH THE RAIN STOPPING AROUND NOON AND WE EVEN HAD THE SUN PEEKING OUT OCCASIONALLY. WHEN IT GOT TOO DAMP OR COOL, WE'D JUST HEAD INTO WHATEVER MUSEUM LOOKED INTERESTING - I LOVE THAT THERE'S SO MUCH TO DO FOR FREE IN DC! WE SPENT A GOOD CHUNK OF TIME IN THE CAPITOL AND THE LIBRARY OF CONGRESS - MAYBE A LITTLE BRUSHING UP ON US HISTORY WILL HELP OUR UNDERSTANDING IN OUR CONSTITUTIONAL LAW CLASS!  I ALSO REALLY WANTED TO FINALLY SEE THE SUPREME COURT IN PERSON AND THE NATIONAL MALL, SO WE DID A LOT OF WALKING, COVERING THE WHOLE AREA. I COULD HAVE HOPPED IN A CAB WHICH WOULD HAVE ALLOWED US MORE TIME TO MAKE IT TO DOWNTOWN DC AS I HAD PLANNED, BUT I WAS REALLY ENJOYING TAKING IN THE AREA AROUND US. SEEMED LIKE THERE WAS SO MUCH TO SEE EVERYWHERE I LOOKED!

I'M A BIG FAN OF THE MET IN NEW YORK CITY, SO I WANTED TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF THE FREE MUSEUMS AROUND US AND FIND AN ART MUSEUM! WE SPENT OUR LAST HOUR OR SO IN SMITHSONIAN'S FREER AND SACKLER GALLERIES, AND I WASN'T DISAPPOINTED. POOR ASHER JUST WANTED A NAP AT THAT POINT (HE WASN'T THE LEAST BIT INTERESTED IN POSING FOR A PICTURE), BUT I PROMISED HIM HE COULD SLEEP THROUGH THE WHOLE FLIGHT TONIGHT!

THIS WAS A SHORT TRIP BUT IT WAS SO ENJOYABLE, DEFINITELY BECAUSE I HAD ASHER WITH ME TO TACKLE THE CROWDED AREAS YESTERDAY AND TO GO EXPLORING WITH TODAY. I'M SURE HE'LL BE THRILLED TO HAVE TOMORROW OFF AS I GET CAUGHT UP ON CLASS WORK - BOTH OF US STAYED INCREDIBLY BUSY THE LAST COUPLE DAYS! WE'LL BE STICKING AROUND RHODE ISLAND NOW PROBABLY UNTIL WINTER BREAK, AND ALTHOUGH I WISH WE COULD CONTINUE THIS STREAK OF TRAVELING WE'RE ON, IT'LL BE NICE TO HAVE THE NEXT SEVERAL WEEKENDS FREE TO FOCUS ON SCHOOL WORK. THE BIG HAPPENINGS OF FALL SEMESTER ARE BEHIND US NOW, SO ALL THAT'S LEFT TO DO IS COUNT DOWN UNTIL THE END OF IT!

fyi of teh day.....  RABIES SHOTS----- WELL ... THE CURRENT LAWS PERTAining to rabies shots for dogs have... slid sideways in a confusing manner...

i asked george--- and got this

The law has changed in the past year or so. Yes the pups are overdue but the implications have changed.

old law dog is bit by known rabid animal is t be euthanized or quarantined for 6 months w no human contact. New law is vaccinate immediately and home quarantine 

Old law second vaccine must be given to dog 1 year later not one day more for vaccine to be three year. New law the time of 2nd vaccine is not critical and will be good for three years no matter when given

- forget  the  bit about being bitten by rabid animal-- that is a disaster of it's own

old law   if your dog had it's first shot jan 1,  2000 it's good for one year- but if you have a second shot between october 1 and dec 31  then that second shot is good for 3 years.

apparently now they are not so fussy about the oct,nov,dec time and  it will cover 3 years no matter when given.

HOWEVER !!!!!!  WHAT PEOPLE ARE NOT HEARING IS.. THE FIRST SHOT IS GOOD FOR ONLY ONE YEAR  SO IF YOU DON'T HAVE THAT SECOND SHOT TIL JAN 15TH OF 2001 THERE IS A 2 WEEK PERIOD WHERE IF YOUR DOG BITES-- OR EVEN SCRATCHES SOMEONE YOU WILL HAVE THE WRATH OF THE  BOARD OF HEALTH DOWN YOUR THROAT FOR A DOG  "NOT CURRENTLY VACCINATED FOR RABIES.."

IT IS ALL IN THE PAPERWORK- BUT I HAVE SEEN A FAMILY GET IN ALL SORTS OF HORRENDOUS TROUBLE ABOUT A DOG NOT CURRENT IN THE RABIES DEPARTMENT QUARENTINED WITH NO HUMAN CONTACT IN A DOUBLE CHAIN LINK FENCED "CAGE" FOR 6 MONTHS.  AND THAT HAPPENED BECAUSE THEY HAPPENED TO SAY THEY DID NOT KNOW WHO BIT THE DOG.. SO TEH VET INVOLVED SAID IT WAS POSSIBLY A RABID...ETC......

IT IS A SIMPLE FIX--- SO PAY ATTENTION.

I UPDATED OUR MASTER LIST OF ?400+ DOGS YESTERDAY, AND  CERTAINLY WHEN WE DONATEA DOG TO SOMEONE THEY ARE TO  TAKE THAT RESPONSIBILITY THEMSELVES--  TEH DOGS WE HAVE PARKED FOR POSSIBLE BREEDING... I WAS AFRAID TEHRE MIGHT BE SOME CONFUSION AND AN AWFUL LOT OF OUR PUPS  HAD A ONE YEAR ANIBVERSERY OF THE FIRST SHOT IN SEPTEMBER..  

WITH MURPHY'S LAWYER  CHASING  US DOWN THE PIKE....  THERE WAS A SCRAMBLE TO GET OURS  UPDATED... SO I DID EMAIL A BUNCH OF PEOPLE ASKING TEHM TO CHECK-- AND OF THE  25 EMAILS I SENT OUT, THERE WERE 2 THAT SAID THEY WOULD RUN  RIGHT AWAY AND GET THE SHOT.

DOWN THE DRIVE  ANDINTO THE POND CREATING A HUGE DITCH WHICH WE BOUNCE IN AND OUT OF WITH THE TRACTOR IN A  BLADDER BUSTING MANNOR..  SO HE SPENT YESTERDAY TRYING TO  SUGGEST  A MORE CONTROLED APPORACH  TO THE DELUGE WITH GREAT PLANNING ( AND MANY STONES)

PERSONALLY , I TACKLED TEH RAIN OFF TEH ARENA-- WHICH HAS BEEN A MESSY MUDDY  TRENCH.

WITH THE TRACTOR'S BACK HOE, I HAVE CREATED A SYSTEM OF TRENCH TO 4'DEEP PIT... TO TRENCH TO PIT  TO TRENCH TO PIT  TO HOPEFLLY GET MOST OF TEH WATER DRAINING UNDERGROUND IN A DRY WELL KIND OF THING.

I FULLY EXPECT HE AND I WILL SPEND HOURS SITTING  IN MY WARM/DRY CAR WATCHIGN THE SUCCESS OR FAILURE OF OUR  APPROACH TO WATER RUNNING DOWN HILL.

sir richard was here yesterday---a merle-- from the chezh republic  nice square happy young teenage male 

 the merle ( grey/black mixture) when bred to a black female should produce 50% black, 25%harlequin and 25% merle -----now if we bred richard to a harlequin-- we shoudl get 25% merle 25% harl 25%black  12% white Harl and 12% white( possibley deaf like ariot... not a huge problem.. just deaf) 

 watson a harl... from denmark--  when bred to a black  should give us 50% black  33% harl and 16%merle

breeding watson to a harl female shold give 25%black 33% harl  16% merle  16% whiteh abd 7% white  the possible deaf white.

the only time you get 100% " BROKEN colored"  pups is  a black to a white harl( like audrey from ohio)  sholud hav been 50% merle and 50% harl  -- we got the colors right   90%merle AND  10% HARL...

TIGGER IS A HOME GROWN HARL VERY YOUNG YET... I THINK HE LIVES WITH MEGANS FRIENDS UP THERE BY TEH INDIAN RESTAURANT.

it is lovely to think the trainers are the most  important AROUND HERE -- but let me remind us all they would be totally useless without my friend the dumpster pickup guy.   A well organized support group is just as critical...

we have all the pieces... we just got a little sidetracked...

i need  help to do a massive overwrite of job descriptions for everyone around here.  we need to get the focus back on the dogs-- those tiny details that make a huge difference...

TINY.... like... maybe ... calling haley  the  "barn manager"  is wrong-- she is really in charge of the "pre training dogs"-- namely,, on a daily basis  she has to get them properly exercised before the trainers take them out or the trainers spend too much time  defusing the teenage dog energy level.  at the same time keep the barn clean/spotless  -- however... a bit of dirt can wait til later in the day... having dogs run in the flat field can not wait.. TRAINERS SHOuLD LET HALEY KNOW WHO IS NEXT AND SHE  HALEY SHOULD BE OUT KICKING A BALL AROUND TEH FLAT FIELD  OR INDOOR ARENA OR SOME SUCH TO DIFUSE THE  ENERGY AND THEN CLEAN AND ORGANIZE WHATEVER later...--  CONCENTRATE ON THE DOGS.

THE "UPPER DOGS" NOW HAVE MUCH BIGGER RUNS THANKS TO  CP DONATION OF MONEY aND TAnner and crew for effort.

there is the same  concept  in the house... these puppies are  getting bbbbiiiiigggggg- they need room to run---ther seems to be a mentality of they are getting big soit must be time to just shuffle them into kennel 10 for teh progression to service dog training....nnnooooooooooo !  they are way behind in their training...... I WAS MORTIFIED AT THE PUPPY MARCH DURING DOG FEST--- THE PUPS HAD NO IDEA OF GROUP BEHAVIOUR-- AND THIS WAS DUE TO THE GENERAL TURMOIL OF DEALING WITH  "PROBLEMS" NOT DIRECTLY RELATED TO  PRODUCING A WELL TRAINED DOG.  THEY HAD NOT DONE PUPPY MARCHES OUTSIDE ENOUGH-- AND IT IS REALLY  A QUESTION OF  3 MINUTES ORGANIZATION.

this  ocasionally it means the entire first floor should be  "open " to them  at which time  attention must be totally directed to them- and picking up after  them immediately--- there is a tipsy accent when i hear  "i put them on the deck so i could sweep the floor--- like managing a 2 YEAR OLD CCHILD-- WHEN THEY SLEEP- YOU DO SOMETHING ELSE LIKE SLEEP YOURSELF...-IN CASE OF TEH PUPPIES... IF THEY ARE SLEEPING  IN THE  CONDO YOU SWEEP THE KITCHEN-- ONCE UP PLAYING, WE NEED TO HAVE PUPPY PATTING, SPOON FEEDING AND PUPPY MARCHES  AROUND TEH FIREPLACE OR AROUND THE HOUSE..  GROUP ACTIVITIES WITH CAN OF PURINA AND SPOON..

TAKE THAT ONE EXAMPLE OF PUPPY MARCHES  WE HAVE 4 TRAINERS-- USUALLy AT LEAST 3 EVERY DAY- THE GENERAL PLAN IS FOR TEHM TO TAKE  BIG DOGS "OUT INTO TH EWORLD " FOR TRAINING..  THAT MEANS  EACH GOES OUT THE DRIVEWAY EVERY HOUR-- WELL WHEN THEY DO, IF THE HOUSE CREW COULD RUN A FLAG UP A POLE --- OR SOMETHING--- TO LET THEM KNW THE PUPS ARE AWAKE AND ACTIVE, IT WOULD NOT TAKE ONE OF THE OFFICIAL"TRAINERS"  5 MINUTES TO TAKE TEH 10 PUPS ON A PUPPY MARCH- AROUND THE HOUSE-- WITH THE HELP OF  ONE OF THE HOUSE  CREW-- CAN FEED TEHM APPROPRIATELY- THEN HELP GET THEM CONTAINED AGAIN AND PICK UP THE NEXT DOG TO GO OUT TO THE SUPERMARKET-- OR WHEREVER.  we have lost this-- and  we must run to catch up.

we must......prepare those pups  with enough "education" to go into kennel 10 and run around puppy hill.. AGE ALONE DOES NOT QUALIFY..  THE SUCCDESS OF OUR PRODUCING A WELL SCHOOLED DOG IS DEPENDENT ON 5 MINUTES  HERE AND THERE TO GET THEM ORGANIZED.

the place is fill of pequiliar assignments-- like  shopping will be done by the trainers-- because they are in any store training dogs to be in the stores-- so if you have a craving for red licorice- it is perfectly normal to ask meg or steve to pick some up..... there are a lot of those.

MANY OF YOU KNOW HOW MUCH I ENJOYED MY INTERNSHIP LAST SUMMER AT RHODE ISLAND LEGAL SERVICES, AND I'M CONTINUING TO EXPLORE OPPORTUNITIES IN PUBLIC INTEREST LAW. LAST MONTH I APPLIED FOR SEVERAL INTERVIEWS THAT WILL TAKE PLACE THIS WEEKEND WITH ORGANIZATIONS AROUND THE COUNTRY, AND I WAS TOTALLY TAKEN ABACK BY THE POSITIVE RESPONSE I RECEIVED. WE'LL BE CHATTING WITH SEVERAL LEGAL SERVICES ORGANIZATIONS, AND THREE OF THOSE ARE SPECIFICALLY DISABILITY RIGHTS PUBLIC INTEREST LAW FIRMS AND ADVOCACY GROUPS. I HAVE SAID, LONG BEFORE I STARTED LAW SCHOOL, THAT I WANT TO WORK TO CHANGE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES AS MINE WAS BACK IN 2014. FACING DISABILITY DISCRIMINATION HEAD-ON IS SUCH A DEMEANING EXPERIENCE, AND I KNOW THAT I WOULDN'T HAVE THE KIND OF OPPORTUNITIES I HAVE TODAY IF A LAWYER DIDN'T STEP UP FOR ME WHEN HE DID AND CHANGED THE DIRECTION OF MY COLLEGE CAREER. AND THEN TEHRE IS OOME DEPOT---   TEHRE ARE Alot of nice people in home depot... however.... the  contractor's desk needs some severe house cleaning...  this is a totally dull and boring story  but i hoppe someone at home depot reads this... fact --- many people probably mostly women- end up at home depot not knowing what the are looking for...also faCT......i am... old.. and a woman  who uses a shopping cart as a walker...

the line at the service desk was not straight - and all men...- he "waited" on 2 giving them large paper ?loading paper?  with what looked like a charge card slip stapled to it.   then went and got his hand held check out gizmo and checked out 2 more guys who really were behind me.  i stepped up to him and asked if he could help me and go get    3- 2x6x8' and 3- 2x6x10' . very concise.. no confusion.. i knew exactly and defined it precisely-- so he no longer had the....  _"i'll take her last because she is probably not going to know what she wants"-

HE GOT THE CART.. AND THE 6 PIECES, AND AS HE CAME ROUND TTH E CORNER HE STOPPED TO TALK TO  CUSTOMER #1-- LAUGHING, JOKING, GESTICULATING HAVING A GRAND TIME- AND ThERE SAT MY LUMBER, AS I SAT ON A pile of plywood.-- for 8 minutes????  a long time.....  then.. he could have checked me out with his hand held- which he had just used on customer #4  but instead  left my lumber in teh vicinity of the check out person and left. saying "here" 

luckily i was not in a hurry so i sat and timed his conversation.  he was also luckily i did not know how to use my phone well enough to call the manager and ask him to come help me while this guy ignored me.  i know and i think i am respected by  the manager...as i am by every other department in home depot.. 

couple years ago i nearly came to blows about mortar mix and concrete with" the contractor's desk"    lecturing me on the difference between the two... when i knew darn well he was wrong and just performing for the  surrounding  men at my expense...

 i hate to have to use that  contractor's desk--

paying it forward-- is the theme of teh 2019 calendar ( now available)... plus we just got a lovely grant of $2000 with that same theme telling us how wonderful were are..

we know that  !

our  dogs do a  great job... and they love it.  what dog would not like to spend 24 hours a day with  the person to whom they are devoted? 

we get a lot of calls---a hefty percentage are people who have a dog-- or have just bought a dog- and want  to have it be a service dog that they can take everywhere...  i go back to basics... i find without much exception... that any of my dogs have been accepted anywhere long before we got involved with service dog status-- that is mostly because they have always had perfect manners- and a working vocabulary of about a 3 year old child...

i think mine became famous for what they did not do...

 it has been a long time (40 years?)  since i went for specific "obedience dog"  training-- there is a robotic sense to  sticking your finger in a dogs face and saying "sittttttt" - obedience trainiers always put  6  "T's"  on the word sit.  i have watched sooo many people stick those fingers at their dogs and when teh dog sits, instead of praising the dog, they look around at anyone  and silently say "look what i made my dog do" - i have a problem with that... having asked the dog to do something that makes no sense to t he dog the least you can do is praise them for being obedient.  

in an effort to annoy as many people as possible-- i feel the same about asking a horse to jump a  huge collection of fence and rails that are not attached to anything-- or run in circles while being  whipped. if no one carried a whip  the contest might be a little slower but the odds of winning would not change-- what is the difference if all riders carry or don't carry whips... they out;awed electric zappers in racing.. why not outlaw whips  i can hear it now  "how stupid is that idea.?"

the only animal race i ever apporved of was teh "pig racing" at the fair--i know exactly how those pigs were trained, and it did not involve any beating or whipping-- any pig can be 100% trained to race in about 7 minutes. put a dish of food out there and get out of the way.   No equipment,  trainers fees,or  blacksmiths, no collecting urine to be certain they were not doped... and when their racing days are over, there are laws to be sure they are humanely disposed of so they can be packaged in plastic and sold to your local supermarket.. where the race horse ends up in  terrible inhumane slaughter trucks bound for mexico or canada because we outlawed  the killing of horses here.  and if anyone thinks that people should keep all of themas pets, just let me know -- and within a week janine will fill your front yard with a dozen  "killer " horses...-

personally, i usually plant our family's  horses and other animals....  -- which makes hole digging a touchy subject

around these 12 acres..  i have been here a long time.. and had alot of animals  --  including a lot of donkeys-  i had a system of puttin a big rock to mark where they rested.... til some fool came along and moved all the rocks  into a neat pile so someone could cut the grass better.

fyi of teh day--- they do not  "go away" as fast as you might think- i found this out one winter where - because of the frozen ground,  the only place to plant a donkey was under the heat of the manure pile .     gwen's old pony had been sleeping there for many years-- and was disturbed to have company. Her complaint was not audible  but odoriferous

 i don't feel qualified to answer that- other than to say money helps in a lot of situations.

I have heard these repeatedly from my mother and all which apply to human nature.

i have determined when I have to tell someone no-- they may not just come in here and get a dog "off the shelf"  LIKE A PAIR OF SHOES... THat they  will  not be happy...- and the problem seems to be that every time i teLl someone we can not help them, they come back At me with  "but you helped xxxxx and tehy have the same diagnosis as i do... why not me??"   and i sit there.... WHY NOT ME?????  there are soooooo many reasons why not...-- 

however in an effort to stay positive... let me list the things we like to see on an application...

regardless of  the age or state of  health, we like to see a positive  attitude 

some statements i have heard lately   

" i drive my 93 year old neighbors to the ir doctors appointments, they have no family left" 

" i volunteer  IN MY WHEELCHAIR serving salad at the food kitchen" 

"second graders read to me." 

"i go greet returning soldiers at teh airport" 

" my ** grandmother's group** helps new mothers deal" 

"i am trying to learn sign language to help a newly deaf friend.",

"my dog is a bucket list dog for  people in hospice " 

" we made baby blankets out of shreads for kids who had none." 

" i baby sit and watch tv while the mother of a fussy baby  gets a nap"

" i keep their equipment  GREASED/ AND running"

"  i knit"

there is no end to ways to help someone else... so when someone sits here and tells me " i can't work, or  volunteer..MY DOCTOR SAYS  I am disabled" ..-- I KNOW FIRST HAND... DOCTORS CAN SAY ALMOST ANYTHING---  i wonder where is the  "able " part that REQUIRES  caring for one of our dogs ?

READ BELLA'S MOM'S LETTER ABOUT TEH THINGS TO ADDRESS WHEN YOU HAVE A SERVICE DOG...

LIKE ***IS THERE  A GALLONN  OF FRESH WATER BEHIND THE PASSENGERS SEAT IF WE ARE GOING TO BE OUT OF THE HOUSE FOR A FEW HOURS.???

OUR DOGS SHOULD BE OUT "WORKING" IN TEH COMMUNITY 3 OR 4 HOURS A DAY- AT LEAST.-- DOING SOMETHING.... ANYTHING....

WE CAN  NOT DONATE A DOG TO SOMEONE WHO JUST WANTS A COMPANION TO SIT AROUND THE HOUSE WITH THEM.

I HAVE TO QUOTE WWILL ROGERS   - never miss a good opportunity to shut up.

i have soooo many things to write -- none of whiach i can put in this DD- because certain people read it  and mis interperpt what i am saying..

one is a complicated study on puppy raising- asking for my opinion... and you know how my opinions can get out of control.

someone gave me a book on the humor of physics- which i am enjoying  but can not get into the details of  things  like laws of gravity and sound...

and tehn tehre are relatives coming for t-dayand i need to make better plans so no one gets nervous..

pam is sick ( and here) linda is sick ( and might come anyway)

 the best i cabn  do  for this dd is to repeat yesterday's   which i still do ont understand  but doris siedelle said she did it

Hi there, 

Just wanted to check in and give you all an update on pretty Paula (that's my nickname for her). I have attached photos taken this week. She has adjusted to the family very well and we love her dearly! She plays with our rescued abandoned kitten, they have a lot of fun together. We found a local dog park (membership only) that is fenced in which she loves! It has agility obstacles and she already has dog friends. She does fairly well with commands but definitely a work in progress lol and is a huge hit with the neighbors. Tomorrow she meets our vet (Weare Animal Hospital) they are aware of her special circumstances and already have all the information you have provided us. 

We were wondering if we could come by next Thursday around 2:00-3:00 with Paula to say hello, grab some food and talk with the trainer? If a little later works better we could come later. Also, will she remember you all do you think? :)

Dogfest 2018!!!

It's watching dogs who are so happy to come back to the place of their childhood and see their two and four footed friends. It's  the people seeing their two and four footed friends. It's trying to walk with Ava without her vest so everyone can say hi to her and watching her get excited. It's the feeling of belonging to a large, loving family.i

But it was when we made a pit stop on the way home, That I suddenly realized what Dogfest had really meant for me. For two days, I hadn't felt anyone staring at me or my big dog. 

CP's and volunteers were always helpful. Whenever, I needed to get through a tight spot, a hand or arm just suddenly appeared.

Thanks to everyone who made Dogfest possible.

ALL YOU DOGFESTERS DID NOT EAT ENOUGH ICE CREAM-- LEAVING US WITH  ABOUT 1/2 OF EACH  OF 5 CONTAINERS-- I DOJN'T KNOW WHAT THEY HOLD...5? GALLONS???  WHATEVER---- IT IS ALOT OF ICE CREAM...  5 times 2.5= 12 gallons or so....

NOW THIS IS TODAYS PROBLEM-- WE CAN NOT GET IT OUT AND EAT IT IN IT'S CURRENT SHAPE, SO     OBJECT NOW IS TO SCOOP  INTO INDIVIDUAL CONTAINERS And return quickly tothe walk in freezer -- all carefully labeled with the correct flavor..

doesn't sound like a problem

but....

i am told it takes more calories to chew cellery than  callories you get from eating it-- i have a  NASTY feeling that is not true with ice cream - and teh tendancy to properly "clean out" these big cardboard container will present a pequiliar  dilemma .

HAVING  CHOSEN THE FLAVORS, UNFORTUNATELY , I LIKE THEM ALL.

THE OTHER PROBLEM IS...  SCOOPING ICE CREAM IS NOT SOMETHIGN  I CAN DO IN FRONT OF THE FIREPLACE BECAUSE IT IS A LONG RUN TO TH E FREEZER- AND WE WOULD HAVE  CREAM OF SUGAR SOUP BEFORE WE GOT ANYWHERE.

SO THE PLAN IS TO MAKE USE OF   STEVES MEAT CHIPPING SHACK -- ENCLOSED AND NEXT TO THE WALK IN FREEZEER

ENCLOSED BECAUSE WHATEVER ANYONE SAYS... STONE DUST DOES BLOW EVER SO SLIGHTLY ONTO EVERYTHING AVAILABLE FOR IT TO BLOW ONTO.

IT WILL TAKE 2 PEOPLE -- BECAUSE I HAVE A VERY STRICT "BUDDY SYSTEM" FOR GOING  INTO TH E FREEZER.... IT DOES HAVE AN EMERGENCY OPEN DOOR DEAL-- BUT.... HAVING BEEN TRAINED BY CARS AQND COMPUTERS, WHATEVER MAN DESIGNS GOD WILL SCREW UP.- ONE PERSON STAYS OUTSIDE.

I WENT TO AN ICECREAM STAND CLOSING FOR TEH WINTER AND BOUGHT CONTAINERS WITH LIDS  10 CENTS EACH--  -- SO WE AE ALL SET...  IF I DON'T HAVE  ENOUGH.. COFFEE CUPS WILL HAVE TO DO...

WITH DIFFICULTY BUD MOVED TEH  NURSERY CAMERA TO THE CONDO  AS WE DON'T EXPOECT PUPS TIL ABOUT  NOV 10TH ISH--- THE CONDO WILL BE MORE INTERESTING TO WATCH AS WE SHFFLE PUPS OUT THERE DURING THE DAY--  THESE PUPS ARE ALSO LEARNIGN ABOUT THE USED CAR LOT TOO.... so sometimes tehy go there if it is ont toooo  cold....  I HATE TO HAVE THEM OUT THERE UNATTENDED UNTIL THEY REALLY LEARN ABOUT GETTING IN THE NUTT HOUSE TO STAY WARM... AND I DO WORRY ABOUT  A DOMINANT ONE LYING INT HE DOORWAy not letting the rest in...

  fyi of the day.....do you all know the reason for those used car streamers we have  both there and in the v pen??? it is to deflect the hawks which could carry off a pup  easily... plus...  i have not seen them , but i am told we have a nesting pair of eagles with in  about 5 air miles.
