WHEN I Get an idea I very often type it in a draft form and carry it forward until I Get stuck for a topic at which point I use it ..
I have been carrying forward the idea that some people talk with you and some people talk to you …
I remember A conversation I had with a stranger in a bar which started with “they make shoelaces entirely too long “ … he immediately picked it up and went on about shoelaces .. For about half hour--- VERY SERIOUSLY, totally ridiculous .. virtually no intellectuelle quality to it .. it was just plain fun .
I think I noticed that way back in 1957 When I was at the University of Edinburgh the group of people students would have parties where there was no drinking no television and all we did was sit around and talk and it was very funny … The British are comical anyway but very often these would not be called parties but meetings .. and all they were was fascinating conversation about nothing .. AMUSING NOTHING … UNLIKE CONGRESSIONAL NOTHING WHICH IS BORING.
I was telling GWenn this---She talks to me in the morning when she was jogging on her whatever she jogs on .AND APPEARS AT MY ELBOW ON A LITTLE SCREEN SHE SET UP….. . and she said that when she was at Kenyon College they had no television .. she said they all used to sit in the Hall on the floor and talk .. and at one point they noticed they were basically sitting under the drinking fountain and rather than get up to get a drink someone had something relating to straws so they managed to hook it all together and be able to stay sitting on the floor DRINKING water out of the fountain and passing the other end of it between people .. I think that's why I like Kenyon College .. there are very bright people who given a time when there's nothing special to do will dream up something .. ALAN ALDA WENT THERE , I THINK.. AMONG OTHERS….
that concept is very closely related to talking with people .. as opposed to talking to people .. very often the people talking to you are just thinking about what they're going to tell you next .. or in my case if I speak too slowly they'll finish the sentence for me wHEN they actually have no idea what I'm going to say …….finishing my sentence angers me .. AS aGE gives me problems with verbiage .. and finding specific words like “ book “ I HAVE TO ASK THINGS LIKE “WHAT IS A bunch of papers all glued together in a wad” OFTEN DONNA CAN COME UP WITH THE WORD FOR ME…. where as—other 4 letter words I have no problem vocalizing..
WORDS ARE N OT MY SPECIALITY, BUT THE NY TIMES HAS A NEW GAME OUT THERE … AND FOR $3.49 I BOUGHT SPELLING BEE FOR month. Had a grewat time making words out of P AND A E F T Y C .. I SHUT IT DOWN… AND HAVE NOT BEEN ABLE TO CONNECT WITH IT SINCE…. ALL I GET ARE NY TIMES CROSSWORD… AT WHICH I AM HOPELESS
