Why is there a huge box of crayons in the overflow room .. how is this critical to training dogs ?

One of the concepts responsible for our successful training of dogs is the Pooh pickers . you may all laugh as I'm sure you do but the ability the handle the used food Could very easily overwhelm any training program -----  let's just think ..Without exaggeration there's usually about 50 dogs on the property .. fed twice a day they probably have two power movements a day so there's 100 piles somewhere and to be able to keep it picked up and clean is probably the first thing to consider when you try to train a bunch of dogs--- it could easily be walking around knee deep in poo ..

there are two aspects to our system .. and typically---- it's a long story

when I started the chicken brick wall I was well aware that there were a lot of people who could not afford $10 a month----many times in my life I'd been one of 'em .. and I know that people like to participate and don't have the money and seeing as they live in Kansas that's a long way from Ipswich ..? is that what Dorothy said in the Wizard of Oz?   ----- at any rate to encourage people to participate , off the top of my head one day I suggested they cut up their cereal boxes into 3 inch by 6 inch cardboards which we could then use as scoops for poop picking .

So for $0.78 postage   pieces of Cardboard began to arrive in envelopes and we found out that was not a crazy idea it was very usable … at which point people were encouraged not only to cut them in 3 by 6 but to include a plastic bag with every two or three cardboards so we had a whole package deal which fit very nicely in our back pockets with your cell phones .

the instant availability  is critical   to our basic sanity   or is it sanatation

everybody on the property is supposed to be carrying a poo picker packet in their back pocket .except for me .. either in my golf cart or my car I have a supply and when I see a pile to be dispensed with I just drop out the window  a supply of poo pickers so the next guy walking by can pick it up quick . seeing as we tie the top of the bag not only is the substance contained but the odor is tie a knot and just leave it where someone can pick it up with a golf cart and get it to the dumpster . we are clean here you do not smell anything -----maybe the horses but you don't smell dogs .. even with 15 puppies you do not smell puppies .

as the poo picking project evolved people began to write things on the poo pickers .. sometimes very intellectual concepts , or humor , or in one case The Greek alphabet .  all sorts of things arrive written on the back of the Pooh pickers so very often you will see someone standing in the yard laughing at one on those poo pickers before they use them for their ultimate purpose .

to go a step further Judy found out in an alsheimer  group in a nursing home  .. that the residents there thoroughly enjoyed decorating the pool pictures either with crayons or stamps with funny little puppies or feet or something .  you never know what goes on in the heads of these people but I was flabbergasted to have one man very proudly hand me his poo picker and told me "THis is a Fred Bard original "  .  that's kind of an advanced thought for someone in the Alzheimer's group .  but the decoration of the poo pickers was certainly a low-cost project and as soon as the camera people found we were doing this they began to send those crayons and stamps many of which we used and are carefully stored away in the overflow room until this bloody COV thing is over with .

As we train dogs in Costco and malls and supermarkets it's bound to happen and if you have a poo picker in your pocket it's easily dealt with .. one of my more spectacular rescues I was with Paul in an elevator in a hospital and as the door opened to let all of us out the dog began to gag and we got about 10 feet out of the elevator and he threw up both Paul and I grabbed for the poo pickers and we had that picked up and bagged I don't think it was seven seconds .  it was so quick hardly anybody realized what had happened .. and then there are other times .. my own personal way in a supermarket is to carefully place the shopping cart over the pile till I get the Pooh picker out of my pocket and scoop it and stash it quick .

just so your education is complete there is the fluid portion of the problem .. I was training a dog for a wheelchair patient  and the dog began to pee ---sitting in the wheelchair made me about eye level so I figured I'd just shut it off if I grabbed it .. let me tell you grabbing the source did not stop it …  it is under considerable pressure and squirt it out between my fingers .

you really needed to know that .

moving on ..

So there has been a sequence ----just plain 3 by 6 cardboards ,--- cardboards with plastic bag attached , ----decorated cardboards with bags attached ,--- and ultimately decorated cardboards with bag and SINGLE easy wipe ------All in one unit fitting in the back pocket so you can either wipe your hands or the floor whichever needs it most .

Our method of poo picking was deemed superior to the chunky vomit picker invented by a British lady , because when all is said and done she was left with a dirty chunky vomit picker and all of our product was packaged for the dumpster .

As plastic bags are phased out we are once again in the design mode . but we've got a pretty good supply of plastic bags
