biggest news is we have re-started the trips to the fairgrounds-- why not with our 11 passenger "jitney"??? earlene paul and bud took our prob;lem pumpkin plus a few others and an adult dog or two who come when called to monitor the bunch...
they carefully handled pumpkin to be sure she did not run off as she did the day before--- and reported she did much better at staying with the group -- the rest of the story us that on the way over she hugged earline's knee in fear during the van ride--- and on th eway home, she bounced round with the rest...
----interesting
a perfectly good exercise for any and all of them-- load them up-- with bailey or luna as chaperones--
it does take 2 people til they get trained---- and one should have running type legs just in case...
not chaos on some of these that contain anyone but her pups... she can be very opinionated--- and needs a few dry runs her self.
is it totally safe? no.
but in the future it will make them safer to handle when they get loose by accident---got to take the training wheels off sometime
especially when we have the weather in our favor... i.e. that van is warm PLUS THEY HAVE Been known to get a cookie or two in the van.
MUCH MOR EFFICIENT THAN STANDING AT THE END OF A 6' LEASH SAYING "COME" AND PULLING--- WHICH IS THE FAIRLY NORMAL PROCEEDURE FOR AN OBEDIENCE TRAINED DOG.
i continue to think you can not train a dog to do something using your muscles-
take the yuppy puppy gum ball machine- full of dog treats---
if you try and get them to push the lever by lifting their paw- they will use their muscles to pull back-- so when you make the treats hit the tin bowl, they think they pulled back to produce the treats -- a problem from which some of them take forever to get over--
there is about $500,000 worth of dog training there.

historically in nice weather--i used to take 8 pups and mom in that dog trailer for "runabouts" all by myself- they became the 8 dogs i could take to boston "harborfest"mobs of people and dogs--- without leash or collar to jump on the bed for 6 hours--- and earn $1000 per...
i had better nerves then

i should sell that trailer--- we are high class now-- with the heated a/c vans.
anybody know how to do the craig's list thing??? it is a nice trailer aluminum- for mini donkeys -goats-sheep-- and danes.
it would serve us a lot better if it was sold and turned into dog food money
which should remind you to do the click thing--- we have only 6 more days for 100 more of you to buy a $10 brick for Novembers dog food.
the dogs keep eating--- what can i tell you???
and by latest count 280 of you get this fool daily doggie...

now for moxie--- with the paar family in medford-- jack has a biology background and is studying pee.
basically--- do female dogs do more sniffing of vertical surfaces because males pee vertically
a perfectly good study and deserves some comment....

Moxie is a wonderful dog and a great ambassador for the SDP. We meet new folks everyday that are curious about SDP so we get to share your story often.
Moxie has interesting scenting/spotting/marking behavior. Interesting to me, but probably not to anyone from the SDP farm or who's raised dogs a bunch. Moxie's totally house broken and indoor "marking" is not an issue. Maybe it's the biologist in me- I am just curious about dog behavior. My past dogs have all been spayed or neutered and that I think altered their communicating with/by urine. Most of the web site ramblings about scent marking seems to be a bunch of BS (insert your own pun here) or at best offered to help people with dogs that are insecure and "marking" in the house or peeing on the new sofa or new baby. Thankfully we don't have those issue (no new sofa problems, no new baby problems, no peeing in the house problems). No, I am just curious about canine behavior and wonder what function Moxie's urination behavior serves in the dog world. She is very selective about where she pees and is extremely nosey (pun intended) on our walks around the neighborhood. I guess there's a lot to smell when you have a canine superpower nose. Vertical structures are of course of greater interest to Moxie than non vertical space. I assume that's because males dogs are peeing there more than anything else. Moxie spends a lot of time sniffing things like trees, poles, hydrants, bushes, etc., but she never pees near/on these. She usually pees in between these in flatter open areas. Anyway, I am trying to find good scholarly articles about scenting/urination observations of non-nuetered/non-spayed dogs. I suspect Moxie is either trying to leave her name and number in clean spots or is trying to scribble over other girls' names and numbers with her own, or perhaps she does both. She behaves this way both before and after her cycle as well as during it. Any thoughts or articles on the subject would be enjoyable.
Love & Cheers to All,
Jack Paar & Family.
