FROM TOM...
Thank you and let me tell you what I learned about Danes from Cuba. I have owned 8 or 10 dogs in my  life but Cuba was my only Dane. Even though the kids lived home with us, only Cuba and I had a special bond. She knew from what shoes I put on each morning if it was a day we were going out into the woods or a day when I was going to work. On my work days she knew what time I would be home and was always waiting. She went everywhere with me.
I miss her very much, but I know she can never be replaced. Danes have such unique personalities that even though they are all beautiful, getting a new one is just like having to endure the quirks of a new girlfriend...

Then there is the fact that while I enjoyed the jubilance of her youth...I also enjoyed the calm of her geriatric years. I really do thank you -- tom

Hi Carlene!

I have missed teaching in my 5th grade classroom. Zeke and I have been volunteering in my daughter's 2nd grade classroom weekly. We love it, but I have wanted more!
Friday, Zeke and I had our first day back to work! I have decided to work as a substitute teacher in our local elementary school. We had a wonderful first day! Zeke was perfect! He worked beautifully in the hallways. He slept during instruction time. The kids were perfect too. I was not only able to work on reading skills (I was the substitute for a reading specialist), but I was also able to talk about service dogs.
I think about all of the students Zeke and I will be able to work with in the future. We are both very excited to continue our new career.

Best,
Shannon & Zeke

Yesterday, Emmett and I attended the annual volunteer appreciation lunch at the local senior center where I have been a volunteer for 10 years and Emmett the last year and a half. I dont normally take his vest off while we are in public but it was a special day and he amazed me once again.
When I took his vest off, I told him it was ok, he started to work the room. I could see the love each person had for him as he met them. One older women asked with excitement if she could hug him. I told she could but go slow, she was so happy she got on the floor to hug him, I thought maybe this maybe a business opportunity, hugs for a 1$.

Also guess what time of year it is? It is t-shirt fundraising time!! For those that are new for the last 2 years we have done a fundraiser for Service Dog Project and Boston Childrens Hospital. They both mean so much to our family. Service Dog Project is a non profit organization who donates

their fully trained service dogs to people with mobility issues like Bella. They survive on donations. If it wasn't for donations Bella would not have George. So this is so important to us to keep supporting them. And the second is Childrens Hospital Boston. They have helped Bella through so

much. They have supported her and our family through a lot over the last 10 years. So to be able to give back to them so they can get other gifts for other children means so much to us! This fundraiser will go on for the month. Here is the link to order.
