has been a standing joke about little old ladies saving things in the attic. well my collection is not in the attic but in a bucket right in my project room and I use the collection to teach people how to splice the end of a rope so it stops unraveling... I also carry some in my tote bag so sometimes sitting in a waiting room with nothing to do and no one to talk to except for the people sitting next to me who don't talk to anybody either I can pull that stuff out and provide
If they are willing, an educational few minutes which would otherwise be a waste of time.. I'm sort of the Johnny appleseed of both splicing and monkey fist making... Seeing as I often have one Great Dane lying at my feet... to break the ice.. it's an interesting project... actually one of our recipients just tried to book a special splice learning session to learn to do the the cotton leashes that everybody uses.. that of course could be done in the front seat of my car which is another place I give lectures... Sort of a ” let's wipe out all loose ends “project. I couldn't think of another hey to use up all these short pieces of perfectly good cotton rope.. every monkey fist that I make that's about two or three inches in diameter produces about a 2 foot long wasted piece ..
As for resisting learning.....
Interestingly there's an awful lot of people who do not know how to splice a rope---and there's an awful lot of people who don't want to learn how to splice a rope either--and I don't argue with them although I certainly would want to say ...”you're sitting there doing nothing why don't you increase your abilities?” and but I don't say that but I certainly think it while feeling very aloof.... and forgetting that
Certainly I would say the same thing and have said the same thing when anyone tries to explain to me how my computer or my cell phone is supposed to work..
thinking back, I remember my lovely IBM computer ----when I turned it on the screen was absolutely black-- I loaded a program I had written and proceeded to get a lot of work done for the want ad magazine.. And this is the critical part it never screwed up... once I had a program working which was often you turned it on loaded it ran it and it ran----- and I loved it.. now I turned on my machine and it says in blues and yellows....Are you sure you are who you think you are and if you're not then push this button so I can e-mail your cell phone and ask you to prove it—
In the meantime here is an advertisement for shoe laces---- which will not get off your screen until you order 6 pair.... monthly,
I kept the daily back up on a system or rotating disks which were about 8 inches in diameter—with a weekly set in the guest house in case of a fire.
Now it is all stored in “ the cloud”
What else is in the cloud???? Balloons and things... what would happen if--- that balloon decided to wipe out the cloud of information stored there--- we might never get any electricity again... ever...
