dec 31 2020 cov & gas

 2020 12 31

I am willing to bet good money that not one of you would expect this daily doggie to have the main topic of coughing and passing gas .. however as the last day of 2020 I think it's quite appropriate .

my observation yesterday about how doctor Pol swings baby cows around by the hind legs to empty any fluid from the lungs at birth .....Was the only reference I used from anyone with any kind of advanced degree in medicine ==== it was veterinary medicine .. after that,    it's pure Isaac Newton .. I think it was Isaac...  Studying gravity watching apples fall out of trees .. There is a purity about science that is sorely lacking in the printed or Internet words .. apples never fall up .. so sticking with pure science ....Whether you are moving  a heavy object or trying to cough up phlegm , Gravity is a major issue .

I certainly Would never assume anyone should take my word for any of this .. except I told Janine if I get in a bad shape coughing to put me on my stomach with my head over the side of the bed the scrap basket underneath .. So what you all choose to do is your own business ..but I certainly had a lot of comments about this .

so I will let some of these people write today's daily doggy with minimal editing....

Your DD triggered an old memory for me!!
I remember having pneumonia and being in the hospital 65 years ago. After I went home, I had to hang my upper torso off the side of the bed for 5 minutes every hour.  My mother was a nurse and she put a pillow on the floor because I was a short 5 year old and would slide off the bed and end up doing a headstand.  It definitely helped me cough the phlegm up. I’ve never had any problems since.

GOOD MORNING CARLENE,

REGARDING THE DD AND GRAVITY,
I HAVE READ THAT THEY HAVE BEEN TREATING COVID BY LYING PATIENTS ON THEIR STOMACHS  W/ HEADS AND BEDS  POINTED DOWNWARDS W/ EXCELLENT RESULTS!

ALSO PENS..EVERY NURSE CHERISHES HERS AND I USUALLY CARRIED EXTRA IN MY WORK TOTE FOR THOSE WHO DIDN'T, SO I WOULD NOT HAVE TO LOSE MINE..

MAY THE NEW YEAR BE HAPPY ,HEALTHY AND FRUITFUL FOR YOU AND YOURSAND SDP

TAKE CARE,
KIM

Hi Carlene!

I agree with your theory about draining lungs
Upside down...

I am 60, but I had very aggressive asthma
for my 1st 25 years of life.
My body instinctively "told" me to put my head down, to help my lungs breathe. I was too young
to actually know, that what I was doing was correct. I just knew I felt better.
Recently, it was proven that many children with asthma store a bit of water deep down in their lungs. Who knew. Of course asthma is real and involves other factors, from allergies to physically restricting bronchial tubes literally. I had it all.

I would be the kid who could be found outside, standing on my head all the time. Or walking on my hands, or doing hand stands up against
our farm brick house. (Even leaning over a foot stool in the winter or sleeping like the Danes do, with my head hanging off the bed.)
Most of my family thought I had a few screws loose anyway, but I only knew what felt better to me.

Furthermore, I have assisted in whelping pups myself. It is absolutely life saving to carefully
"Swing" a few pups upside down, to clear nose and bronchial area. As you said, holding the head and neck carefully. I was trained how to do it and it works. I would never have done it, without seeing it done right though.

Lastly, look at giraffes! Dear me,
They weigh 150 lbs at birth and are dropped 6 feet in a thud. Vets claim that is nature's way of breaking up the crud in baby giraffes lungs,
So they can start breathing :))
THANKS, Barbara

Face down, inverted increases the chance stomach aspiration into lungs in sick patients and there is no easy way to safely do that at this point. Hope this helps!

MANY OF THE MDS CARRING FOR COVID PATIENTS ARE HAVING THEM LIE ON THEIR ABDOMENS AS IT EXPANDS THEIR LUNGS AND LETS GRAVITY DO ITS JOB! WHEN ADVISING PATIENTS THAT ARE AT HOME WITH THE VIRUS, LYING ON THEIR ABDOMENS IS A LOT EASIER WITHOUT ALL THE TUBES

MARTHA .  ga..
======
I just read the DD as I do every day.
While it's true the lungs drain better with head down, expanding the lungs to take a breath is more difficult.  In order to fully expand the lungs to take in air/oxygen, the lungs would have to push the stomach, small bowel and large bowel with all it's contents upward.
When you raise the head of the bed to help a patient breathe you are actually lowering the  contents of the abdomen giving the lungs more room to expand.
Thanks for all you do

I received this from a friend yesterday. After seeing today’s Daily Doggie, I thought you might find it interesting. Both she and her husband (late 70’s, early 80’s) had Covid early in the pandemic. Her sister, who is a nurse, mentioned some of these tips but she said wished she had, had all of the information. She also said she wondered why the media didn’t get this info out. Both of my friends recovered but it was a long haul. Stay healthy!

This was shared on a Covid survivor group...have heard many of these before but it seems helpful:
HOW TO FIGHT COVID AT HOME
No one ever talks about how to fight Covid at home. I came down with Covid in November. I went to the hospital, running a fever of 103, a rapid heart beat, and other common symptoms that come with Covid. While I was there they treated me for the high fever, dehydration and pneumonia.
The doctor sent me home to fight Covid with two prescriptions -  Azithromycin 250mg & Dexamethason 6mg. When the nurse came in to discharge me, I asked her, "What can I do to help fight this at home?" She said, “Sleep on your stomach at all times with Covid. If you can’t sleep on your stomach because of heath issues sleep on your side. Do not lay on your back no matter what because it smashes your lungs and that will allow fluid to set in.
Set your clock every two hours while sleeping on your stomach, then get out of bed and walk for 15-30 min, no matter how tired or weak that you are. Also move your arms around frequently, it helps to open your lungs. Breathe in thru your nose, and out thru your mouth. This will help build up your lungs, plus help get rid of the Pneumonia or other fluid you may have.
When sitting in a recliner, sit up straight - do not lay back in the recliner, again this will smash your lungs. While watching TV - get up and walk during every commercial.
Eat at least 1 - 2 eggs a day, plus bananas, avocado and asparagus. These are good for Potassium. Drink Pedialyte, Gatorade Zero, Powerade Zero & Water with Electrolytes to prevent you from becoming dehydrated. Do not drink anything cold -  have it at room temperature or  warm it up. Water with lemon, and little honey, peppermint tea, apple cider are good suggestions for getting in fluids. No milk products, or pork. Vitamin’s D3, C, B, Zinc, Probiotic One-Day are good ideas. Tylenol for fever. Mucinex, or Mucinex DM for drainage, plus helps the cough. Pepcid helps for cramps in your legs. One baby aspirin everyday can help prevent getting a blood clot, which can occur from low activity. "
Drink a smoothie of blueberries, strawberries, bananas, honey, tea and a spoon or two of peanut butter.
We always hear of how Covid takes lives, but there isn't a lot of information out there regarding how to fight Covid. I hope this helps you or someone you know, just as it has helped me.
Copy and paste please.

?ivermectin? (     ED: IS WHAT WE USE TO WORM THE DOGS FOR HEARTWORM.)
------------
Ivermectin acts by inhibiting the host importin alpha/beta-1 nuclear transport proteins, which are part of a key intracellular transport process that viruses hijack to enhance infection by suppressing the host antiviral response.3 Ivermectin is therefore a host-directed agent, which is likely the basis for its broad-spectrum activity in vitro against the viruses that cause dengue, Zika, HIV, and yellow fever.3-6

THANKS FOR STARTING ME DOWN THAT RABBIT HOLE  J

  • iVERMECTIN FOR HUMANS AS AN ANTI-VIRAL….APPARENTLY IT INHIBITS SOME PROTEIN PRODUCTION THAT CERTAIN TYPES OF VIRUSES USE TO MULTIPLY AND INFECT MORE CELLS. IT HAS BEEN USED FOR ZIKA, HIV AND YELLOW FEVER. HERE IS A SMALL BLURB FROM ONE OF THE REFERENCES THAT CAME UP WHEN I GOOGLED ITby Drugs.com

    • Ivermectin has been trialled in treating the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2, which is the virus that causes COVID-19.
    • The trials so far have shown ivermectin reduces the number of cell-associated viral RNA by 99.8 % in 24 hours. This was an in vitro study which means they were testing cells in a laboratory and not in a living organism.
    • Studies are now needed to be done on ivermectin on people or animals to see how well ivermectin works against COVID-19. This is in vivo testing.
    • Ivermectin is currently a FDA approved medicine for treatment of intestinal worms, Strongyloides stercoralis and Onchocerca volvulus. It has been established as safe for human use.

and on  a slightly different tact
Carlene,
I laughed my head off at your email and still laughing. All you said is so logical and brilliant.
Back a few years when I could do this:
I had severe gas in my guts and could not get rid of it... I could not burp or throw up.
So:  I said to myself.... " what does gas do?"    Well, myself said:   it rises to the top!

I went to a wall in my house; did a handstand with my back against the wall and stayed there
for a few minutes!!    Dr. Pol and you would be laughing your heads off!!!
It worked!!   Gas:    gone!!

I love your ideas and especially hospital patients that need a different solution..
Best ever,
Nancy
