what do snakes and chopin's polinaise have in common? my mother struggled to have us at least regognise classical music-- and i bet she was instramental in getting some concerts to the newburgh high school-- to which we were then strongly encouraged to go- those were the days of actual choral music by the schools- and visiting groups...
there is a huge gap in my connection to music until something , i think was called MTV . which i never could find the music -part of it... but i --- as animal episodes---had a request-- for an mtv show-- of snakes--- 100 black snakes.
it was my phase of putting kids thru college-- and i was new englands expert on animals in movies etc--- like teh story of the class validictorian being the only student... i was all there was in new england film animals.
i don't know where i found hundreds of black looking snakes- i know WHO i got them from .. her name was "cat" and she had loooong red fingernails before glued on fingernalis was in vogue... she and i went to the studio with 2 pillow cases of squimery black snakes-- up on the second floor in boston-- to find the studio was ready.... with a table set with tablecloth and gleaming silverware and cut glass stemware-- we were to drop the snakes onto the table-- all at once.. piece of cake??? not so fast---- then how do we collect all these squirmy snakes and get them out of there- because the studio did not want ot be inundated with snakes...
thankfully i had seen a mythbusters show where they yanked teh tablecloth from under a banquet setting by covering the tablecloth with a clear plastic sheet--- so i duct taped clear plastic under the tablecloth , leti t hang down tehn had everyone in the studio hold it up and out-- so we dropped the snakes from about 6" and they cover teh tablesetting and fell into the plastic sheets- which we tehn gathered up-- cashed teh check and went home.
it has always made me wonder what that had to do with music-
mine is not to reason why.....
actuaally i did 2 other MTV snake jobs with her... -- she had 'em -- one called for a huge snake- no way could she and i pick up the thing ? 4 INCHES IN DIAMETER ONE OF THOSE YELLOW AND WHITE YOU OFTEN SEE IN ZOOS...-- she said she could just call a few of her friends to come get it in a carrying bag and then carry it for us.
now.... I HAVE SOME GOOD FRIENDS... BU T LET ME TELL YOU , I CAN NOT THINK OF ONE OF THEM I COULD CALL TO ASK HELP GET A 300 POUND SNAKE IN A BAG .
THE OTHER JOB WAS FOR A TINY CALIFORNIA SNAKE-- VERY COLORFUL-- THAT WE HAD TO MAKE CRAWL IN AND OUT THE ORIFICES OF A HUMAN SKULL.
SO WAS MY INTRODUCTION TO THE MODERN MUSIC TASTES.
now all i ever hear about that is real music is broadway shows or handels messiah at christmas. i think the music teacher is a thing of the past. maybe they can't find music teachers with electronic degrees.
