Hi Carlene,
I wanted to let you know that we tried to visit Aaliyah, the girl that is at Children's requesting a dog visit. We were in contact with Nancy who contacted you 1st, but never got the floor and room number, and because of HIPPA, were unable to find her and let her visit with Wendy. We had made a little care package, as her birthday is coming up, that we gave to a child life staff member, who was going to bring it to her. Every unit is now locked down all day and we need a floor and room number to get a "key" to enter the floor. We tried, and were upset we could not meet her request, but please know we did our best. We emailed Nancy this morning early for the info, but never heard back and if we do, we will try again tomorrow while Hunter is "asleep."

Hi Carlene,
Wednesday John, Jess, and I did a presentation to about 155 kids and 30 staff in the Bradford NH elementary school. It was about 50 minutes long and included a PowerPoint presentation with lots of pictures, a 5 minute video of J&J demonstrating many different things like going up and down stairs, maneuvering in tight spaces, grocery shopping with a cart, etc. They did a live demo of a few things at the school as well. The kids were all very well behaved and had lots of good questions afterward. Jess stole the show as usual with everyone saying how beautiful and well behaved she was. When we showed the picture of her being held in one hand with her name card right after she was born the whole place did the "oooooooo". John did a great job with the kids, answering questions and talking about how Jess has changed his life. After the assembly, which was at the end of the school day, we were asked to stay and attended a staff meeting where there were some additional questions asked. We have done some presentations before but this was the largest so far. It was very well received and afterward we found out there was some staff from another school in the area who asked us to come to their junior high school for a similar presentation.
We had handouts which included all the info about SDP and the websites. We also told the teachers about other classes around the country that follow SDP and participate in various ways. There was certainly interest and hopefully some will become avid CP classes.
This is just another way that John benefits from having Jess. The help physically is so important, but the extra benefits that do so much for his self esteem are just as important.
Thanks once again for all that you and everyone at SDP do. Simply put: it is life changing. Not many people can say that about their work, but all of you can!

Stormy (aka Clipper) was the hit of the hospital ICU because they couldn't wake Patrick up after surgery. She went and found a space that wasn't covered with tubes and machines; nosed his hand and his eyes fluttered. The nurse rushed in and Stormy did it again. His hand was tied to the bed rail, so Stormy put her head under his hand. He woke up and rubbed her head. Then smiled and went back to sleep. All the nurses had to come in and see what she was doing. He was able to get his respirator taken out because Stormy woke him up.
