cici has turned to motherhood... she has that look... these are my pups... she has decided the room service does have it's advantages--- and at an awkward mid night opinion, she decided to forgive and .... not forget....but chew.... as she wolfed down a whole can of food. one spoonfull at a time...

nature can be most pequiliar.... but when we say "she is having puppies."... that is only about half of what she is having--and to keep her "nest. neat and tidy, she eats everything except the pup..... which strange as it sounds... does have some nutritional value????--- which... when we jump in and quickly dispose of "everythig except the pup...." we are actually depriving her of some stregnth from that "other stuff"--so we do try and keep up her intake... especially cheeze-- for the calcium.

these pups seem to be getting enough to eat--- they eat-- then sleep with very little sound.... today when donna comes in we should weigh them again just to check... but the last belly i felt was round.

my car---and teh contents of my car...are at the toyota dealer-- i should have emptied it out before leaving it in the hands of strangers-- my day pack of tools is behind teh seat....hopefully semi visable behind teh transfer chair-- and a few other things-- i have been known to loose a bunch of cd's during a motor job.... i would hate to loose that "day pack"

--- loosing things.... aka janine leaning up the arena--- she had quite a pile- and i was told it was colby( grandson) and matt's job to get the stuff out and into the dump trailer..

pvc pipe--- i have been known to cut off a 3 inch piece-- so how can she say any of it is "junk" most specially... she did not recognize the " 5 way" fittings that once were so hard to find. ( preamazon who probably now has them). you need a 5 way to stand up one piece of pvc pipe--- or-- as in my case you waned to make a cavaletti.( horizontal bar 12" high) for teh dogs to jump--- or use 2 posts to make amuch higher jump...... i used to ask them all to jump things.. like3 foot high !! but because i am so into changing my mind about things .... i never glued them together -- so i could just pull them apart and redesign at random---on a farm you need. "stuff"-- like the day... all of a sudden.. i decided to pour concrete for the donkey cafe- when i reqally had not designed teh particulars...... so i stood up short pieces of pvc in straight lines---- which just happened to be around.... so when they poured the concrete i alreqdy had teh "holes" in which to put the iron pipe which holds up the tent. and a few other things--- that required maybe 24 pieces of pvc about 1 foot long

i had all that in the g-tent-- fortunately janine had not manageed to toss it out as pieces of pipe too short to use...

we can construct amazing things around here without a trip to home depot....we have it..... if we can only find it....

speaking of that. ... and pieces of string too short to use......

 I have a basket sitting behind me as I type which has 50 or 200 short pieces of rope in it-  it has been there since before dogfest because I had intended to set it up as a place for people to practice splicing rope or putting this dub ends on rope which is a very handy thing to know how to do -----and as I've said before it's one of the reasons there is a service dog project -----I know how to splice rope.. I was standing in the barn of a friend with a group of people just hanging around and I noticed that her crossties we're all shredded at the end as they usually are in  most barns so I just splice the end so nice neat tidy little wad she was very impressed and many months later was the one to give me a nice big check to get service dog project going...  so learning these odd talents is not ever useless-------- so back to my bucket behind me I know that Josh who just won that award for somehow selling a whole bunch of monkey fists that he had made... he has to have the same kind of collection I hope he didn't throw them out because when you make a monkey fist and you finally tightened it all down around the center you end up with a piece of rope that you just cut off..  now his problem is I never taught him how to make the ends on those ropes but every one of those ropes is probably long enough for the type leash that every recipient of a service dog from here users so I hope you didn't throw it out I... 

i keep thinking I should call his mother and make sure that they hang on to that and then I should he should come over here and have me teach him how to put the ends on ----so there.

i used to call it oddball information-- where if you accumulate enough of it- someone eventually will be impressed... maybe to your advantqge....

everybody knows how to fry an egg.. so you will not gain my notoriety for being able to do that....

 where to start...could be at teh start of a litter we might need 2 people to keep each other awake.. if there are any of you who want to puppy sit overnight please contact. lynn ..it is not as easy as it looks...however we made it thru the night........ and on to the next problem.

i was all set to do a dd on the back pocket  idea of mine..... this back pocket is  something which i  wish all people would try.. concept ... instead of aa great dane service dog....tru=y a service brother/sister/ husband/wife.....  

i kid you not...--holding onto tht back pocket of a person is far superior to any cane or walker or crutch i have seen....blue jeans are strong.... tight ones have very little directional  movement.  the wearer of these jeans is..... usually...... trainable- for speed and directional walking...of course it is right hand to let buttock and left hand to right. buttock.  totally adjustable for speed and directional-- far superior to lifting out of chair or car.... and looks so much more  friendly....-and is 100% functional .. maybe that should be teh  name of the process   "functional fanny". 

i have suggested this to dozens of people and every one... with out fail has been amazed  at teh diference... it is normal. walking again...  ...

well there wass one gal---  telling me about her ms problems as we sat tin the "T tent" so i suggested she try it-- "just grab his back pocket and walk to the barn and bac... which she did... and was amazed-- and also said   the only problem was. "i didn't know this guy".

She was amazed at how easier it was to walk that way.

I put the purple monkey fist I bought yesterday on the back of my bathroom door. It’s perfect!!  I’m so glad that you mentioned that as a use for it. I thought they were primarily dog toys. Too bad I didn’t learn about them before I had a hole in my bathroom wall. Ha!  At least I won’t make the hole worse now.

when i built that arena - somewhat with janine's help- i told her she could have access to 60  x 60  feet and i would have 60 x 20 feet

we have tried all sorts of surfaces...  sand--- topsoil-- shreaded leather. clay stuff... and currently stone dust...

none have been perfect-- it all needs to be maintained...sprinkling etc... and tehn the anti smell new stuff from tractor supply. ??? PVK. ???

big rushing... cici doinfg greqt... deckided to be a mom.....loves the room service involved.... and teh beef and chicken skewers left over from some big deal.... my next nearly worst problem... heater on my car died... now for me ... that is real trouble. i live in the thing.... got to get it in theimorning 8am and it is on an icy hill l above that tree with all the dents fromme sliding into it whaen it is icy.... plus. ynn is sick- other thqan that.......   but i am in daily double time  rushing

DEC 26. CICI...9 PUPS.   

 We saw little if any contraction and all of a sudden we had a puppy on the sofa wonderfully active strong puppy no problems whatsoever and cece took one look at it and left I think she thought she broke in the house break a rule and moved her bowels on the couch she had no interest in that pup whatsoever nor did she have any interest in us trying to catch her because I think she thought she was in trouble and we got nowhere we finally got it to holtsville long enough for the pup to get a few mouthfuls it was a good strong popping nurse well so it had its colostrum and then she got up and she wandered around then she began to exhibit more of the normal labor pains I'm tearing up any of the fluffies or sheets or anything including mattresses then we just followed her around and just waiting for something to happen well that's what happened for what nine more times she she never really produced these pups with any severe contractions they just kind of fell out it's very strange it's very strange keeping track of it all Haley did a wonderful job um I don't know what else I can tell you except that it's been a very weird night and we just had one more so I think our count is up to 9 with one DOA the pumps all look good are acting well we have a couple that are slow nurses if I had to worry about anything or worry about the fact that I don't think I think they're a day or two early and I don't think her milk is totally in you have to really go out of your way to see the little white bubbles on the side of their mouths when they nurse so I think with nine puppies I I told everybody to get the nursing bottles out and we may have to start with the goats milk we have loads of goats milk so don't worry about that we're all set

 

we had some wonderful comments and observations about Hayley taking care of them and she's done fine I stayed with her for a while and then I left went back to bed with the instruction that if anything happened Karen could come running and get me up it actually shake me because I might not hear if anybody would just yelling for me and that seemed to work fine Karen was delighted to have see the whole operation and Sarah did the basics that still needed to be done I do have to tell you that I had 51 emails from one person complaining about everything I don't know what she was like on the chat room but these were all individual emails that I got telling us everything that she thought we had done wrong... I get a kick out of that... last night we were sitting around remembering all the complaints that we've had over the years many of them just honest complaints of people just didn't know any better—

 

It shocks me -----along with you CP’s ------ how much  you have learned in the course of the last 8-- 10 years about farming in general and animals particularly--the first night the cameras were live I got a phone call waking me up at 2:00 o'clock with a great shocking news that there was a bird in the barn you will now know how ridiculous that is but at the time it sounded like a large problem to the person who was calling we've graduated from that.  but there have been times one woman explaining to us the reason we had  a stillborn  puppy was due to the fact that we were using cell phones in the room with her.  Last night I took a call from a a very upset woman who wanted us to stop chasing that dog around and let her lie down and have the puppies-- What she didn't realize was we were following along behind she say because puppies were literally just dropping out of the back of her so we followed around with marsh claws to catch whatever happened I've never seen puppies produced with so little effort the part of the mother the last one I was sitting right behind her having just had a shower and I did not expect it she didn't do it thing and that last puppy came sliding out which I then checked it quickly and then handed it to Haley who by now is an expert very nearly.

 

Most of you do an amazing job of keeping each other educated and stop any unnecessary phone calls there have been phone calls which have been absolutely critical taxi getting her foot stuck in the hay bag was certainly one of them but if the barn is on fire by all means give me a call and that does involve puppies in kennel 10 chewing on small plastic toys ---there shouldn't be any small plastic chorizo in kettle 10 we do seriously appreciate all the extra eyes that you folks give us and I really appreciate the fact that you can talk it all over and decide whether it really is something worth calling me about because I do need to have my sleep too I'm happy to get up at 2:00 o'clock in the morning if I need to but it's always wonderful to hear you guys discussing whether it's necessary or not we do have someone here 24 hours a day who can go down to the barn and try and undo any problem or do and if they need extra help they can wake up matt along the way

 

however here we go at the start of the new year almost I'm still looking for somebody to help lift and carry hammer nail under my direction if necessary and the other thing I'm looking for is I am told it's Karen Maitland who who made those very funny puppies speak cartoons because I'm gonna try and have a column in the Ipswich news and see how that goes and I would like to be able to include some of the very funny bubble speak cartoons that I'm told she was is the one who has done them and I thought there were two people doing this so anybody else who does them just start sending them to me and we'll see what happens next the other thing would be to tell me how on earth you get those bubbles big things to appear I'VE  got enough trouble trying to type straight but maybe it's time I learned to do that I don't know

 

THE LOST WEEK OF DEC 25 TO JAN2-- I AM GOING TO LOOSE WEIGHT I AM GOING TO CLEAN OFF MY DESK  I AM GOING TO FIX THE SLOW LEAK IN MY TIRE AND A WHOLE BUNCH OF THINGS-- I SHOULD JUST COPY THE LIST FROM LAST YEAR AND EVENTUALLY I WOULD GET TO THE REALLY IMPORTANT.. I WILL TRY AND FIGURE OUT WHERE THE BOLT CAME FROM THAT WAS UNDER MY CHAIR THIS MORNING.  DISASTERS AND POTENTIAL DISASTERS ARE ALL RELATIVE-  EINSTEIN SAID ALOT OF THINGS. MOPST OF WHICH I DO NOT UNDERSTAND... LIKE. E=MC SQUARED.. BUT THERE IS ONE.....THE FASTER YOU GO THE HEAVIER THNGS BECOME. AND THE MORE YOUR  SOURCE OF ENERGY  WILL RESIST YOUR EFFORTS TO MAKE IT GO FASTER..-- OR AS THE AMISH WOULD SAY " THE FASTER I GO, THE BEHINDER I GET." OR IN MY TERMS........ YOU MAY APPROACH SOMETHING BUT YOU AIN'T NEVER GONNA GET THERE. ASYMPTOTIC. i am  in awe of how the news people can  sound so excited every day come up with "breaking news"  and it is the same stuff i have been listening to for 8 months.   it is a talent !!   i am beginning to recognize some of those crowd  scenes  -- talking about washington dc... with the Eiffel tower in the background. was a big  whoops??  or some fun???

 rats----  is on the schedule for the day-- someone is coming to give us an estimate--  and everything you read about rats is -----don't bother unless you can remove the source of their food..  i am afraid they are going to laugh at us.  the dog food is in good shape in the shipping container. but the orgqanization ends there-- our overflow room in the house  with it's cardboard boxes of "cookies" saves. rats from having to chew thru the plastic boxes of   boxed dog cookies-- or a quick run to  the kitchen to chew thru a little bag o flour  hidden back on a shelf... there are not enough plastic boxes in th world to keep us 100% plus they can chew thru those if theyt have to...

and ? the chickens?  the words chicken and rats go together........  where we have feeders on the ground full of cracked corn and layer pellets... perfect rat food.. moving on to the icu  and barn horse feeders--- the horses are pretty good at finding every piece of food.  which they get in their mouth for a first go round at chewing... but then it dribbles out. into. crannies where they can not reach it... so the rats do.  and some corn --- or oats  go  thru the horse digestive  process in it's entire only to be picked  up in the ABC department (Already  Been Chewed).. in th. dogs  kennel, not every pellet is consumed... the dogs are pretty good at searchng  them out... but under the chain link there is always tiny pieces big enough for the rats lunches...  shaking otu the dogg's fluffies will produce a  rat size meal of a dogs post drooling...

i will. be interested to see if they do have  some magic---  could be they. have a huge quantity of snap traps. which to set and monitor wouold be worth paying them to do.   but  i bet 

they are  going to say "clean up the place first".  even tho as farms  go we are darn clean... 

i thank everyone for sending th variety of  rat traps--and the suggestion of cats..... remember back 7 years ago????? tht is why we took on  wanda-- we have been here before.. maybe we shoudl try cats-- i am told they now have a cat de-flea product that lasts 3 months.  that is. my only objection  to barn cats-- the heater ducts in the hayloft keep them toasty and warm...

some people have rats for pets.... they get a bad rap- which is mostly because of their ability to multiply- people should be in that same category

every day --- on any news show-- there are toooooo many people who present far more problems than a few rats--- people carry guns...------ we go thru this every year-- a couple cold nights and  giselle and her family all mAke the yearly trek back from the beaches on the pond- seeking the warmth of the refregerator motor which is usually running .. making heat where they make a nest... and hopefully don't make any more giselle's til spring.  these DOG'S  monsterous knuckle bones are a favorite-- and since they can not be carried back to "the appartment" they are enjoyed in full view. of the cameras...

they enter thru the garage thru one hole that they have chewed in the wooden door--- perfectly round 3" diameter to accomodate uncle louie who ate far too many  nuts at the beach. over the summer.  ? i should just block it up?  what good would that do?... they would simply chew another so we would end up swiss cheeze acres.....

i have one in my bedroom-- he/she. runs from bureau to closet as the 7pm news comes on..-- to do that ... he/she. has narrowly squeezed past 3 loaded rat traps.  IQ wise, the rats are doing very well this year....  

you want a real count?? i think we have caught no more than 6-- 2 in house. 4 in barn---- there are many more in barn icu and laundry-- it is all a factor of available food supply-- and as horses chew- they dribble grain...in the house people just underestimate the IQ of a rat. while at the same time overestimating plastic..  to a rat, the world is chewable...

now if they had fur-- like squirrels...... they would have a much better reputation.. see    squirrels do not have to seek the warmth of a refrigerator motor, and are happy to store their nuts between the covers of the guest room bed.

next. dogs vs doctors at diagnosing narcolepsy..  we know dogs can do it... it is something they pick up on their own.... no need for med school.. they get it...all you have to do is read their actions.. like i maybe have not been doing??????

months ago i complained.  about jiminey waking me up every time i nearly fell asleep n the chair....  6 months later... larkey is doing the same thing...  and the camera people have noticed me nodding off at mail  call...  i have not had an official diagnosis-- but i have a dr  apt at 3 today....... i will bet on the dogs being correct...

i have always tested my own capabilities with the extreme suduko puzzles...  i am happy to report, i can still do them ( not easily. but complete). the only difference is i may take several 3 minute naps between steps... 

this may hinder my driving--i had to go a year without driving back in  1970 because i had a gran mal siezure-- so i bought a new yellow vw. stick shift--- and the kids would llike up after school to drive me around... because they did not take away my license.. and i could be the senior driver necessary for them to practice.

i may become the worlds greatest hitch hiker.  and i bet i still get requests to back up trailers..... with ice cream....

POUR IN SLOWLYU AND SIT BACK...
